Camera off centre - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

I'm a bit concerned as my bottom camera lens is sitting off centre to its enclosure. See attached image. From what I understand there is some movement of the lenses for stabilisation, but I thought that was just the top and middle, and they revert back when the camera app is opened. However, the bottom one constantly sits to the bottom right, even after launching camera app. Is this bad workmanship or completely normal? Anyone else's the same?

Try rotating the phone and keep watching the lenses. See what happens.

Bottom lens stays still - the others move. The actual enclosure doesn't seem in line with the other lenses.

none of the three lenses should move. return it.

They actually do move as they're equipped with Optical Image Stabilisers. https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/note9-camera-not-centered/
I'm just wondering about the housing and whether others who have this phone have an off centre enclosure on the bottom lens. Anyone else? Yes or nos accepted as responses... Am considering returning it. Not sure it's a big issue but a bit annoying if it's dodgy build quality.

Samsung galaxy a50 has no OIS.

You're absolutely right - I stand corrected - my apologies. I just assumed that's why the other two were off centre. Will take it to exchange. Hoepfully they're not all like this. Thanks!

Dust under camera lens

The device is 1+ month old. There are two particles of dust under the camera lens. This doesn't seem to affect the taken photographs despite the fact that they are in the centre of the lens. Should i send it to service, try to clean it or just ignore it ?

Under the lens! It's unreachable.

It's not unreachable, you just need to take out a few screws use a few plectrums and take the phone out of the case, as the GN only has one side, then blow the dust out. Put it back together and you're done.
I have one spec under mine, it won't affect picture quality in the slightest, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you for your post. My main concern is if this is something generally observed in galaxy nexus phones and if this dust impacts somehow the taken pictures. I would not bother trying to practice surgery to my device in any way!

Honestly, I've seen pictures taken with Canon L lenses after they have been dropped front element into the ground and fractured and even then they take images like it's a foggy day and that's with a huge piece of glass smashed. It's far, far too close to the sensor for it to pick it up, and the 'lense' is a fixed aperture of f/2.8 I believe which is even less likely to pick up dirt particles.
It's annoying I know, but it won't harm your images.

Purple tint/noise on camera

Has anyone else noticed the infamous purple noise problem on their Verizon Ones in low light? There's a giant thread about it here in the international variant's section. It gets especially bad when you take a picture in total darkness or cover the lens entirely. If your phone has one of the defective sensors, the whole screen will turn bright purple.
Also curious to see if there's a certain batch of camera sensors behind this. If you have this problem, could you browse to /sys/android_camera/sensor and post the text inside? Mine says "st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-05-03".
Before anyone suggests that this is a software problem, there are a quite a few units that don't exhibit this issue and show perfectly black images in the dark, so I'm more inclined to believe this is a hardware defect.

I have the same problem. I am determining if I should bother replacing it. I have to decide by tomorrow. I am currently unlocked and don't know if it bothers me enough to lose that right now.

Wow, that sucks.
I'm considering the same thing, though I'm not facing such an issue. I want to know if this camera problem is widespread to see if it's worth exchanging; it would be awful to go through the whole exchange process and wind up with the exact same problem on the replacement. And it would especially suck to lose your bootloader unlock for nothing...

My dad also has the HTC One from Verizon (got it a week later). His camera exhibited no such issues. I am going to try messing with his again tomorrow.
Its definitely a widespread issue though as you can see on that XDA post. I've also been following that since I got the phone. There is someone who thinks it might be a software issue and can be fixed by flashing libs. He is working on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45158495
I am just afraid of returning it and getting another headache such as dead pixel(s), chassis gaps/scratches, or anything else like that. I am trying to determine if I could live with it. I don't take many low light shots, but it will suck when I do.
When did you get your phone? It sucks that I have to decide by tomorrow!
EDIT: My camera pretty much does the same thing as shown in this pic (For others who may not be aware what we are talking about)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45298491&postcount=966
I got the phone about a week after release. Not sure that means much though, they seem to be randomly using old leftover parts to build the phones (according to the serial number, mine was built in July).
Can you post a picture of the purple stuff? I've seen other threads on this - in one case it did look like classic low-light issues that plagued certain Dincs, but another guy's pictures seriously did not look like digital noise to me - looked like an oily smear, maybe a manufacturing defect.
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-06-20
Mine doesn't have the issue and it was purchased in the release day.
I had this same problem. I went in to verizon and showed the guy and we went through 3 replacements before he swore it was a software issue. Then I showed him that covering up the camera lens on their display model showed a plain black screen, while the replacements were showing that purple/pink tint. Here's an album with a couple of pictures of what it looks like.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m93o47ugxapos4v/hB6YN6kw-n/HTC One
My camera does the same.
I took it to the VZW store today but didn't have my ID nor did I bring the box with me.
Planning on going back tomorrow.
They told me they'd replace the phone for me so we'll see what the new one does.
Will report back!
BTW, nice car Frankie1588 if that's yours
Mazda RX-8?
For reference - here's a pair of low light shots, one with night mode on and one without. Definitely worth replacing because this phone sees better in the dark than I do, and that's pretty cool - this scene is nowhere near as bright as the pictures make it look, and night mode gets rid of speckling artifacts entirely.
So just going into the Verizon store, you guys were successful in getting replacements? How hard was it to sell that the phone had an issue?
guess I'll test the camera as soon as fedex drops off the phone tomorrow. I'll just call if its bad and make them overnight me a new one.
so if you take a shot in low light without the flash on, and it comes out fine, your camera is ok?
sorry just trying to see if mine if effed.
I help the lens cover and got purple, but when i shot in dark (under my bed) with and without flash, they came out normal?

I just went into the store today and they took my word for it when I described the problem.
Said they have been having a lot of people come in for the same reason.
Since I used another line's upgrade they said I couldn't swap out in the store.
But because of the device still being under warranty, they're shipping me a new one
And I just have to ship my current one back. I seriously hope this new one doesn't have
the same problem.

I got mine with the Edge program (don't judge me), and they were very easy to deal with in store. I just told them that it's an awesome phone, and the camera wasn't working. I showed them that it wasn't working by just covering the lens with my wallet. It showed that pink/purple tint on the screen. We went through three phones before we found one that didn't have that when covering the lens. I would definitely take yours back because the lens, when not taking in any light, should be completely black.

I got mine via edge to, 5 months after getting the note 2 on my upgrade. I'll either pay it off or trade it in at half paid off.
I think some of y'all might be mistaken on the camera.
You need to take a picture in pitch black room, not just cover the camera with your finger. Mine was able to draw light in through my finger, but when I went into the bathroom with the lights off, I got a solid black picture.
Just like a flashlight shines red through your finger, so to some extent can natural light.

I completely agree about not covering it with your finger, light still gets in. You can definitely find an object to cover up the lens, though. The display model at the Verizon store was black when covered with my wallet, but my phone was showing that tint when covered.

I've tried taking pictures at night. It turns into the same purple mess that you see when you cover the lens completely.

then I would definitely get a replacement. Mine was solid black. Also don't have any gaps along the top, or scrapes, imperfections that I can find.
Only thing I noticed was the white band at the top was not quite flush. Have to really look to notice. I'm considering myself lucky.

Xperia z compact left side slightly misaligned?

Hi, I just got the phone yesterday and right away I noticed that the left side of the aluminum framing is a little off?
It's hard to notice but if everybody can please take a moment and look at the left side, where the magnetic charging port, does that section tend to extrude a little more than the rest of the frame? Compare that part to the port flaps on top from an angle and you should see that the charging port section is extruding a little more ?
Thanks for your time and replies.

hmm, 50 views and nobody replied, does that mean nobody is having the same problem? just a defective unit ?
There is in other z1c devices too. Not all. Don't worry, I don't think it is a defect. Everything works as it should including magnetic charger and water resistance!
So in some devices, they aluminum frames are perfectly aligned while others are not and it's not considered a defect? I don't quite follow the logic here. Anybody else has a slight misalignment? It's not major but on an angle you can tell that the Magnetic charging port is slightly different compared to the flaps on top.

Have I offended you in anyway? In my post, I wasn't refering to your logic that I didn't follow, I'm referring to Sony. If there are obvious units out there with perfect alignment and some that aren't perfect, Sony should refer to those as defective units and issue a recall to fix it, no? It's a premium device after all. Didnt mean to offend you if i did, I'm sorry.

So post one that highlights what you're talking about, i.e face on.
I don't have the phone with me at work today, but those of you who have the phone with you, maybe you can pick it up and view it a little. The frame where the magnetic charging port sits, seems to protrude a little more than the frame near the flap areas.

If I stare at mine hard enough, I think I can see the part around the charger protruding slightly more than above and below it. But the difference is very small and not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Look at angle from slightly bottom up, it's very minimum but once you find it, you can tell that the flap areas are more indented than the magnetic charging ports. I saw it last night once I got the phone. Try to turn the phone a little while you're looking at it, if the phone is sitting down on the table its very hard to tell. You have to be holding it and looking at the frame while moving the phone around. I just need to make sure that it'ts not a defective unit and that's how these phones were made. If not I'll return the phone for a replacement. All else with the phone is fine though. I'll also stop by a local store later to check out the z1 and z1s to see if they have the same problem.

okay here are the updated photos that i took. notice that on the left side, its not completely straight because of the extra protruding from the magnetic charger port.
I was kidding earlier with the OCD .
To be honest, I do not see anything wrong in the pictures. Maybe I really can not see it. You need to get right the reflections in order to evidentiate such think in a photo.
Bottom line: if YOU do not like it, go ahead and exchange it or return it. Anyway, the small, fine details, that you are looking after, will not be at the level of an iPhone. That's a fact.

I don't see anything either in those photos.
To be sure that you're not just seeing an optical illusion from the reflections of the changing surface along that edge, why not just take a ruler to it and measure? Or place on a piece of paper and trace an outline? Does it wobble if you rest it on that edge?
You'll never be certain if you just rely on your eyes.
This is mine.

The way you've applied your screen protector would be more annoying. Lay the left side on a flat surface and that will highlight it more, but to me it looks like the protective plastic is giving the illusion that it is.

[Q] Weird artefact appears on back camera images. Any ideas?

I've heard about the purple tint, scratches and so on, but couldn't find any other examples of the weird artefact my M8 started to display on the bottom-left part of the photos a few weeks ago. It wasn't dropped or anything - this has just suddenly appeared one day.
Has anyone encountered stuff like this?

It's no sticker. The camera has been reset, cache has been cleared, the artefact is there. It disappears from view when I zoom in, and changes shape when I use filters. Don't think it's software.

You're being a bit condescending. I have recognized that I'm not an expert by coming here and asking a question, no need to drive this point further. That said, it's not as simple as "hardware issue = send for repairs". Stuck pixels on LCD monitors sometimes can be fixed. Camera sensors can sometimes be told to disregard faulty data. I'm looking for knowledge, not snark.
To me, looks like some sort of debris, possibly caught between the outer camera "glass" (probably plastic, based on how easily a lot of folks have scratched it) and the actual lens of the sensor itself. I can see a couple specks of dust caught like this on my phone when it was brand new (out of the box), but fortunately in my case they do not appear in photos. You would think the assembly of these devices would happen in some type of dust-free environment. But unfortunately, this is obviously not the case.
If I am correct (that its some kind of dust/debris), I don't think there is much you can do about it without taking the phone apart, or at least the outer lens (if that even comes out by itself).

Rear camera bump angled?

I just noticed while looking at the phone from the side my rear camera bump has a slight angle downward. Like the bottom is almost flush with the phone while the top is out the most. It looks like it's by design since when the phone sits on a flat surface the angle would match since it does protrude out towards the top. It looks more drastic in person. The picture here barely shows it.

I was putting a case on it, and when I turned it sideways the sun hit it just right, and my eye caught the slightest angle. All chance. I wasn't even looking for it.
Same
I have this too. I noticed it when I was putting a dbrand skin on. I assume it's to reduce camera wobble but I don't know.
My original P3 XL purchased on Dec 2018 had it, but i didnt noticed it until earlier this year. I thought my wiping of the lense caused it as time went by... Now on May 2020 i cracked my rear glass, so i did a Assurant replacement... The replacement device i got, was refurb, and was perfectly straight. No lean.... BUT that device had issue with touch sensitivity, so i had it replaced and the new refurb also has a slanted camera glass....
So i dunno, maybe its like that, maybe it should? Who knows.
