I was wondering the same thing, 7GB for system is too much...

I've the same problem, I found a workaround for this problem with this: https://c.mi.com/thread-1925831-1-0.html
The solution without root is move the app to microsd and I already made it.

What you are asking is impossible, you can´t make bigger the space of you´re phone, using the sd card.
Allthough you can try to use some applications to move the apps to you're SD, apps like Link2Sd(You need root) or more.
Also you can root you´re mobile and use titanium backup to delete apps you don´t need and you can´t remove, normally, but attention, if you remove some apps you´re phone can stop working.
I hope i helped!
If you have unlocked bootloader, you can flash Lupus GB kernel. It have 640MB data partition. And with the help of Link2SD (to move as much apps as you can to SD) it should be enough for some time
You could also partition SD card so apps2sd or link2sd can use it expand storage but is somehow harder to setup. You might check http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning

Are you rooted? If so get titanium backup pro (it's worth the $6 or $7). There's an option for moving dalvik-cache to /cache in there. Depending on phone, you can free up 80-100 MB of space by doing this. Here is the manual method, but it may not work on a lot of devices. Lack of space on these phones was my driving force for rooting it. I'm not certain about this (maybe someone who knows can chime it), but I believe making a separate small ext3 partition for your apps (something like 1-2GB) on your SD card helps out with speed of apps stored on there using link2sd.

out of space warning

"out of space. x could not be installed. free up some space and try again."

[update] you posted a reply before I did, good to know it's solved.
Ah, just that I noted a similar thing with Link2SD and by changing the Link2SD settings to:
Settings -> Install Location -> Automatic [x]
I was back in business without any low storage space problems.
You may like to have a look at Link2SD and see if installing this application is right for you.
Out of interest what does settings -> storage say is currently available on Internal Storage
There are many cached files on the Internal storage and maybe some have a difference between allocated size and used size.
If you're only seeing the 'used' internal storage size reported, the true available(unallocated) amount of space may be a lot less if new/updated apps are looking for space not already allocated.
These are just some of my ideas and not know to be true for the XPERIA M at this time.
I have used SD Maid - System Cleaning Tool in the past and it's pretty good (all be it a bit quirky) at identifying a range of system file that can be optimised/deleted.
It knows about camera cached thumb files too.
On the XPERIA M in the Settings -> Storage there is an option to 'move' all pictures, music and video files from internal storage to your SD card too.
Thanks man i will check them too.

[Q] Wheres my space going?

Hello guys,
This might seem like an idiot question but I totally confused here
My internal note 2 memory says 3.19GB free of 10.4GB. I am trying to clean my space so I plugged the note 2 to my pc on WIndows 8.1.
I selected all the files and folders in the memory and checked their size which summed up to only 3.24GB! I am really trying to find out whats taking so much space. Should I connect my Note II to Linux and check or how do I find out the total contents of thiis internal memory??
Please help me!
Thanks
It should be caused by using warez??
A lot of apps do a mess. I recomend wipe internal storage

Hello,
Thanks about your quick reply! :highfive:
Well it may be but not in my case as almost all apps I use are either free or purchased properly.

As about this,
This is exactly what I would be keeping as my last option. Essentially wiping internal memory is almost equal to factory reset, something I don't want to do unless I don't have any other choice..
Any way of of checking whats taking the memory without formatting would be great
Thanks

In Titanium Backup app you find the exact memory stats devided in system and internal. To optimize internal mem push as many apps to ext sd as you can.
Besides: From Windows/PC you normally can't see hidden or system files.
For further information (eg more space in system) feel free to ask.

Hello,
Thanks for your insight. I am aware of the Windows dilemma hence was trying to get through using Linux but I could not :crying:
However I am already using the Titanium Backup app.. I have pushed almost all possible apps to external memory however I came across a problem where the majority data and memory are still being taken up on the internal memory by that app. Clearing Google Camera, Chaton and Camera Awesome's data, I almost got a GB in internal memory!
Speaking of this I have run into a very weird problem. :silly:
after rooting, I force transferred many apps to external memory. Since this Every time I restart my Note II its forgets my default launcher
Any idea what screwed this up?
Regards

You can't move or force all apps to ext sd, especially system or system related apps, so I recommend to reinstall your rom and try to move step by step, so you can revert back by only changing one app back to int. I remember an app which forces apps to ext and also with that app it is recommended to change quite a descent amount of apps.

Are you sure? Even in folder priv-app you find system apps and some are not clearly assignable.

Your problem can be related to apps that uses root access - this type of apps leaves a lot of trash even after uninstalling, so I recommend you to use only those apps, that are really needed.
Mine phone memory got piled up like yours...Titanium Backup helped me. Pushed lots of app to ext SD....

Internal Memory full

Hi all,
I've just rooted and changed the rom of my HOX and to be honest it's amazing how fast it is and the battery seems to last a little bit longer.
Anyway, I am not writing a new thread for that of course. After trying to install several Apps, I've figured out that my internal memory is almost full even if I only have 706mo of apps. I've moved everything I can from the internal memory to the "sd card" and still, it only remains me 1.28gb of free space.
Do you know what's this "Other" folder which is taking me 4.79Gb of space?
Do you know if I can delete some stuffs?
Thanks,
Alex
Hey
Hi,
It shows others which includes space for system partition and kernel and all the system which is stored on your nand memory.
You only get around 2gb for applications
If I helped you hit that thanks button
Thanks for your answer but I know that. I would like to know if I can get clean the space used by the system and the kernel in order to get more free space?

it's a fictional space that will make you believe you really have 32GB...
its just a dirty trick by htc.
in reality you have 29gb where 2 is the data 25 is the "sd card" and the rest is system.

Where has all my storage space gone?

Hello,
Just upgraded my LG G4 (H815) to marshmallow. Before upgrade I had about 15GB internal storage space empty. During upgrade my phone asked if I wanted to back up and I said yes. Now after upgrade my phone is saying I have 22.70 GB of total storage and have used up 22.02 GB!!! Where did all my space go? Is there a hidden backup file sitting somewhere which is eating up all my space? Can someone please guide me? I am at a loss. Don't really want to reset my phone if I can avoid it. I am having difficulty installing any new apps because of such low space. Also, I do have an external SD card and have already transferred most of the apps there. Still no joy. Many thanks in advance.

Do not install this:

Found the 15GB backup file sitting in the internal storage and deleted it. I have my disk space back now . Thanks.
