Mi 9 SE vs Pocophone F1 - Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Questions & Answers

Hello! I would want to change my phone, and I'm pretty stuck.
On one hand, I'd love to get the Mi 9 SE because of the design, camera and gorgeous AMOLED screen. On the other hand, I'd love to get the Pocophone F1 because of the powerful snapdragon SoC, and the big juicy 4000mAh battery. The thing that bothers me with the 9 SE is the idle drain issue, and when it comes to the F1, the plastic build isn't that appealing, nor the 8.8mm thickness, and from the droptests that I have seen it isn't that durable also.
What do you guys think?

My wife had it for a couple of months and we returned it cuz she didnt like it at all. I tried different roms (miui eu, pixel xp and RR) but still.
What I think? The battery is far better than the mi9se and the camera is great running gcam. I wouldnt buy it because for me its too big and the notch is horrible (kinda iphone).
I dont use my phone for games so tbh, in terms of speed and performance I dont feel any differences. I would like to have a bigger battery on my SE and a better fingerscanner (during the day I dont care much cuz the face unlock is snappy) but in general Im pretty happy with it.
Now she got a samsung A70 (terrible fingerprint scanner and face scanner) but she likes it.

Well, I can only suggest you two things: if you are in love with SE's dimensions and you can unlock its bootloader to install rom/kernel, go with it without any doubts, otherwise, if dimensions aren't a big issue, go easily with the Redmi K20/MI9 T, that has all the hardware things missing in MI9 SE.

I have no idea how to unlock its bootloader or flash a rom/kernel and I really don't want to void its warranty. I love the design of the 9 SE but my only concern is the battery. Even though I don't play games at all, I'd like to achieve at least 6 hours of SOT in 2 days.

So better not go for a Mi9SE

Unbiased recommendation for buy

Hi I had a Zuk Z2 and it was a good phone, in fact, the best phone value out there but unfortunately it has gone and im using a old Xiaomi Redmi 2.
I was looking to buy a new phone and found a interested sale promotion on Mi5S (3GB/64GB) Gearbest, it is 217.00EU which i consider cheaper for this model.
In other hand, i dont like MIUI ROM, its outdated take too much Ram and have bad battery life also i didnt see a lot of life on development tabs which brings to me a question.
Take all of this in consideration, would you recommend to buy it?
I personally love the device, so, yes for me.
Coming from Galaxy Note 4 and Redmi Note 3, this phone is a huge upgrade (aside the screen that is downgrade from Note 4).
And though many (bad things) has been said about the FP, I love the FP sensor as well as it can detect even when my fingers are wet / slightly moist (I live in tropical country) unlike Redmi Note 3 which will require me to wipe my fingers dry first.
MIUI is not bad, especially if you use Xiaomi EU rom for example. The features are massive and most of them offers quality of life improvement. To each their own of course however.
With something like the Nova Launcher, I like the Mi5S, though audio quality through the 3,5" isn't the best and multitasking is limited to a handful of apps. But speed and build quality are very good. Also the battery life is quite good with the latest firmware and you have an incredible quick fastcharge function on it. Or you can wait until the FP works good on LineageOS, but I can't really tell how long that will take.
You can also consider the likes of Motorola (good software, but average battery life) and maybe something from LeEco with LineageOS installed on it. You can also find midrange Sony phones for a reasonable price nowadays, for instance the Xperia X Compact (low res screen, but good phone nonetheless). Also Honor makes good phones. The UMI Z is also worth the look with recent prices, although I don't know about battery life.
If battery life is the most important thing, than buy the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro. You get a solid week of usage per charge and the build quality is superb in the price class. Also, the Snapdragon 625 is more than fast enough for everything but gaming. Plus it's just over a 100 dollars when discounted.
/EDIT: The LG G5 is heavily discounted in the US at the moment: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/06/21/deal-alert-get-unlocked-lg-g5-259-newegg/
Coming from the redmi 2 wt88047, I find that the MI5s is much better but battery life is not that much better. Everything is an improvement compared to the redmi 2 but the battery life is pretty much the same.

LG G5 have random reboots, and it can appear after your purchase. Phones on SD625 are really useless today ( if you want a phone for 2-3 years ). Sony is very expensive for their quality and software support. Mediatek phones are very hot.
My mom has a Redmi 4 Pro and it's very fast, way more than the 617 my girlfriends phone has. So I really don't see a problem with this chipset.
But I don't know about the G5 though. Is it really still the case after all the patches? Would be idiotic, but I have seen worst in the phone industry.
I'm very happy with this phone. I'm a very casual user, no modding, nothing. All that I need works very nice, running latest official global rom.
Thanks to all, I made my choice, I choose OnePlus 5 ???.
But
How I don't have enough money I bought a Mi5s (3Gb/64gb) from gear best hope I'll be very happy with this phone ?

New phone

Hello, I don't know if this is the right subforum to ask this but I'm not around here too often so I'm a bit lost. I had a Samsung Galaxy S8 (exynos) for almost two years, financed with a carrier and with a final pay of €170 or else return it (similar to a lease?). However the battery was showing some age already so I decided to put it on the market and sold it for €220 (so I'm gonna pay the €170 but at least I got some extra money for the new phone).
I'm looking for something different now. I didn't take advantage of the powerful soc in the S8 as I barely played any games, and I value battery life a lot more now. My usage is pretty simple; mostly twitter and web browsing, and a bit of twitch/youtube/netflix. Camera is also not a priority for me although it seems like these days most mid range phones come with pretty good cameras as well. My budget is about €250, but the less, the better.
My current options are Xiaomi Mi A3, Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and Realme 5 Pro (but of course I gladly appreciate alternatives). I have a problem and it's that while I like 'almost' stock Android (like the one in the Mi A3), I also value the features that some modifications like MIUI bring; dual apps, higher brightness, etc... So I find myself unable to decide. My doubts:
For Mi A3: according to reviews the screen is lacking, in resolution and brightness (only 350 nits, and too high in night conditions). I went to a Xiaomi Store near my place a couple of days ago and I didn't notice much difference with the resolution, but I couldn't test the brightness. Felt pretty snappy on the store.
For Mi 9 Lite: the price is a bit higher but if it's worth it I'll pay it. Seems like it has everything I like; battery life, AMOLED 1080p screen, and a decent SoC. Also 6GB of RAM... (is 4GB going to be enough in the near future? Like 2-3 years from now?). This would be my choice but if the differences are not much perhaps I can save a bit of money with any other phone.
For Realme 5 Pro: I know it belongs to Oppo (well, and many more brands), but I really don't know how the support is going to be in the future, as in Android upgrades and stability. Also it seems like ColorOS has a lot of bloatware, I don't mind a heavy mod of Android but I already had Facebook and some Microsoft apps in my S8 and I disliked it a lot. I can probably disable them but... On a positive note, seems like the 4/128 version has a good price (€199) and should have a similar performance compared to the other two, specially the Mi 9 Lite. However, no AMOLED screen...
I hope you guys can help me decide because I'm currently frozen about which one to get, although I think I can't go wrong with any of them. I'm currently using a Jiayu F1 so I'm in a bit of pain... Regards!

Question Is it worth it to move from a Oneplus 7 Pro to Poco F3?

If anyone out there was using oneplus and then moved to the Poco F3
I ask mainly because i believe this phone will have really good dev support for a long time while OP7Pro is fine but not as active as before.
I don't usually like to run the stock version of the OS.
But im so used to this really good loking screen on the OP7Pro so i wanna know your opinions.

Judging from your post in the green tint thread, I believe you have already bought the phone. Why are you asking for other people's opinions when you already have the phone? You should test it yourself and form your own opinion.

yea saw this coming , but i ask because i still dont use the phone much , im wating for the 7 days to unlock otherwise theres no point for me to use it without my apps and the usual enviroment im used to.
I dont see whats worng with that or why you feel the need to point that out.
Its just that people usually ask these sort of questions before buying a phone, not after it. What if a lot of previous op7 pro owners appeared on this post and told you not to switch? Will you sell the phone? Wouldnt it be a waste of time and money? These few questions made me write the above post. My apologies if you found it offensive. Have a good day.

yea nop its ok im not mad.I forgot to mention i got some time to test the phone and send it back if i want to.
So well i can get my full money back if i do that.To be honest i wouldnt have asked if it werent because of those days i need to wait to unclock the bootloader.
Seems like a waste of money.
I only replace phones if the screen is damaged. or my phone is not working anymore.
No compare no despair.
"Worth" is subjective.
If you ask this kind of question, you are feeling hesitated.
Write your expectation in "priority order". Price, performance, battery backup, developmen, customer service, warrant, social surrounding, etc.
Don't put your expectation in parallel, you can't judge what you need in parallel.
It all depend on what you want the phone for.
Since you said you can refund, then refund it. You can buy it back later.
If you say you bought it on a limited discount price and aren't willing to refund it, then move "Price" to higher priority.
If you say more dev activity is better, then move "Custom development" to higher priority, but don't put it parallel with "Price". You have to decide which is your priority.
Other's opinion is not your opinion. You can't blame them if you follow their opinion and hate the phone later. You are the one "decide" to follow. No one force you.
My opinion is : smash your OP7Pro, then you'll find your Poco F3 worthwhile.
I recently moved from a OnePlus 7 Pro to a Poco F3. Reason being my OnePlus was full of scratches and battery life had degraded. The thing I miss about the OnePlus is its premium aluminium build and the display without any interruptions like a punch hole and notch. That being said, I really enjoyed the display on the Poco....the 120 hz panel is brighter, smoother and has better colors in my eyes compared to the OnePlus. Despite the punch hole which is the smallest I have used I am enjoying watching movies a lot for on this phone thanks to the smart tv Memc chip feature (which OnePlus 8 pro and 9 pro also has). It smoothens videos (though its a personal preference) but I love it. I also like the flat display, it's easier to apply a screen protector on it compared to the curved screen of the OnePlus 7 pro. Poco F3 is more comfortable to hold being flat, slimmer and lighter with the same screen size without a case. I had the OnePlus 7 pro in mirror grey so both my black Poco F3 and OnePlus were equal fingerprint magnets without a case but like I said OnePlus did feel more premium to hold because of its aluminium. I found the upgraded ram and processor to provide a superior experience compared to my OnePlus in various tasks (which was already pretty snappy). Back camera experience: Superior for me on the Poco when there is ample daylight though OnePlus 7 pro worked better in low light. I found selfie results to be superior on the Poco compared to OnePlus. It struggles though in low light situations but I hope this can be improved with updates and Gcams in future. I didn't like MIUI 12 with the Poco launcher much though the one ui like Oxygen OS 11 was buggy too on the OnePlus 7 pro and it took many months to arrive (had zero hopes to get Oxygen OS 12 whenever it comes seeing the fate of the OnePlus 6 series.... though custom ROM support is decent on the OnePlus 7 Pro). When I unlocked the bootloader and installed the custom MIUI 12.5 ROM on Poco F3 I loved it as it also solved a lot of bugs and animations became prettier and snappier. XDA development has been really impressive on the Poco F3 in recent times so I expect many good custom ROMs in the future. Overall I have been pretty satisfied with moving to the Poco F3 from OnePlus 7 Pro. I also moved to the 256 GB version from my 128 GB One Plus so that was another upgrade for me personally. Music experience was identical on both devices. The Poco is giving decent SOT with the battery being new.
P.S. I also noticed it charges at a uniform speed right up to 100 percent. OnePlus used to slow down when it was above 70 percent I think.
I suggest you switch to a better model.

The reason i havent send it back is because i too wanna try the phone with a different system other than stock which i do in all phones i get ( gotta wait until tuesday).
From the little time i have been using the phone i can say i like it and the only thing i dislike so far is the screen at night which is not uniform at all.
I even stated that my main concern is having a phone with good dev support so yea im not looking for opinions to change of mind , i just wanna know what they felt going from one phone to another, im not gonna decide just becuase someone had issues or didn't like the phone; i know my priorities , in fact another reason i wanna keep the Poco is due to having Wifi 6 support which my router does and i can telll the difference.
Also the ability to just switch on VoLTE in my country rather than having to use ADB commands like with my oneplus is really refreshing and i like it.
And so on there are many thing i like about the phone and i will decide in a few days once i try it with the bootloader unlocked.
Maybe it was amy bad to use the word "worth" since everyone has different needs on what is worth it for them.
oh and lol at the last sentence, i aint gonna smash it xd hmm i could potentially sell it almost for the same price i bought the Poco!

Nice , thank you for the comparision this is what i was looking for when i asked.
Now do you think charging at same speed from 0 to 100 is good? i believe Oneplus does reduce speed for a reason i guess.

Not sure about the impact this uniform charging has on the longevity of the battery but I do find it convenient for my personal needs. From what I know this is achieved by two batteries joined together, I may be wrong as I don't grasp the science behind this.
I sold my 7T Pro and bought the F3 for less. more than happy w my decision. Screen on time was horrible on the op7 series. never turning backkkkk

It is a bit dumb to ask since we all use different apps and signal coverage but..
What was your SOT with the 7T Pro and now with the F3?
I'm also thinking of moving from the OP7 non-pro to a new phone, have not made my mind yet whether it will be the Poco F3 for performance or the Redmi note 10 pro for camera. Reason to move away from OP7 is poor battery life and the 120hz display with the new phones.
Poco F3 has IMX582 camera sensor which quality wise is similar to IMX586 in the OP7 so at best case I'll get same quality photos and that is by biggest concern with the Poco.

I had the 7 Pro, 7T Pro and 7T.
almost all these three had similar SoT's
for the 7 Pro and 7T Pro my Sot maxes to 4.5-5hrs
with the 7T it lasts for 6hrs
with the 8. 8T and 8 Pro I get 7-10hrs of SoT
I dont game just some emails, voip calls and some facebook and with forced doze on apps I dont need to be awake all the time. I just hate how power hungry the panels are with the 7 series

I have both phones.
Ill say thatthe op7pros screen is 2k , but it just isnt as bright andlets not forget the battery life on the poco f3 which is better even while running an always on display . More importantly, the There are waaaay more roms and wil be for longer on the poco f3. If you really have the cash to spare, the poco f3 is worth it and a definite upgrade

Question Lookin for new phone

Hey guys, just cracked the hell out of my note 20 screen and looking to switch phones to either the 9 pro or the Google pixel I know this might be a bias forum to post one xD but I despise Samsung because they make it so hard to root and the things you do with it are extremely limited just wondering how the 9 pro is if it's easy to root, a good phone etc etc how close it is to the newer one coming out and if I should wait or not I appreciate any input ^_^
It is the easiest phone to root at the market. Go for it. It's worth it.

i am also looking to buy new phone but... i read it has a lot of over heating.. issues
currently i have 7 Pro
Great device my 9 Pro, easy to root, no overheating, fast, etc...
Take it for a spin...
I love my 9 Pro. It does get "warm" sometimes and my 6T never did. It doesn't seem to affect the phone in anyway. I think it's a good phone.
Anyone know if the tmobile/sprint version of it will be anymore locked down or hard to root?
I have a new OP9Pro , un rooted. I have significant overheating issues and I live in the Northeast USA. Example:
Spent 2 hours in the 70-80 degree sun yesterday. Phone went into overheat mode like 30 times. Had no choice. Thinking of just buying another OP7Pro TBH, I still miss the Moment case with the leather strap! (I also still have some cam add-ons). Anyhow, maybe rooting makes all the difference, but this is just really sad. the phone is just too thin IMO... :|
Yes because you need to Sim unlock the phone before rooting and meet all the requirements, plus you need to apply for an unlock token.

70 to 80 degrees heat is the worst thing you can do to a battery. When the device goes into overheat mode, I think that's a good advancement to protect the device from heat. Such high temperatures significantly shorten the battery life.
For me, this is not an argument against the Oneplus 9 pro. Unless I have misunderstood something....
Regarding the heating issue: I never had it, but I am also not a heavy user. With a custom kernel (e.g. Omega), the issue is off the table anyway. System updates should also improve this, but the latter is just a guess.

If root is the most important point, then go for it. Alternatively, maybe Xiaomi, although I don't really know how easy these devices can be rooted. Just have a look at the corresponding forums.
From my point of view, it is still unclear whether the Magisk project will be continued in the long term, which could possibly be an issue with Android 12.
The Oneplus 9 pro is a very good all-rounder, clearly a flagship. However, there are now interesting competitors in terms of price/performance, especially if you can do without root.
Samsung is not bad either. I mean, all the junk that Samsung offers can simply be debloated.
After using Oneplus for many years and a short break with a Huawei P40 pro, I have returned to Oneplus. I have to say, apart from Huawei's story, I was very positively surprised by the phone.
Nevertheless, Oneplus is the only alternative for me. Root and the complete package. Maybe a bit overpriced compared to the competition, but price stability and good resale value when it comes down to it.

Yes because you need to Sim unlock the phone before rooting and meet all the requirements, plus you need to apply for an unlock token.

I'm going to buy the phone in full so I should have it unlocked by default, but would that effect my ability to root it? And how hard is it to get that stuff?
Do you need very good battery life and best photos possible? Cause if you do, then I would recommend buying pixel. My wife's pixel 4a 5g lasts 3 days with 8-10h of sot with tons of apps (including social) running in background.
Photos are great too.
If you are more into quick charging and about 1,5 days battery life with 4-6h sot, and very good but not best photos, then op 9 pro is for you.
Op beats pixel in game and overall performance. It has more premium feel. But during everyday use in case it is not that obvious.

Right, but my old OP7Pro never had any issues with overheating... like... Never... :| I just thought it it kinda sucks - even on the dash of my car it overheats just from the sun in like 10 minutes... The 7 never did that either. :| Maybe I'm just whiny, but I only bought this 9Pro because my 7pro was recently smashed on both sides.

He's talking 70-80 farenheit, not celcius. That's 21-26c for you.
my first phone was the oneplus 5t, 6t, 7 pro today the 9 pro I like oneplus unlocked phones, no carrier bloatware easy to
use, easy to setup and lot of great features

Question First oneplus device

Hi all I’ve just ordered the oneplus 9 pro as it’s my first oneplus device can I ask a few questions
is the cameras as bad as some are making out I had the note 20 ultra and just got the iPhone 12 Pro Max (going back hate iOS lol) are the op9 cameras at least on par with these
is the display any good I mean does the 1 billion colours ect make a difference and does it get bright for hdr playback
are the speakers decent as well
last question it’s been years since rooting as I’ve mainly had Samsung devices and didn’t like tripping Knox ect, is they any problems with woofing and flashing custom roms like tripping Knox or loosing drm keys anything like that (if I flash back to stock will it be as if it was never rooted)
thanks
You run the risk of losing drm keys when unlocking bootloader, but relocking bootloader fixes it most of the time. There's no Knox, so no need to worry.
Cam is decent enough, I know there's been a lot of letdowns with Hasselblad, but if you really need good cam go get a DSLR.
Speakers are fine enough for me, I'm no audiophile, but you can use Viper4android to tune it or add real Dolby Audio with a Magisk module.
Display is good, at least coming from someone with an S10 5G lol.
Rooting is easily done as long as you don't get a TMO phone. If you still get a Tmobile phone, you must get a sim unlock before a bootloader one.

Camera is on par with the big boys, specially after the updates the main difference is the hit or miss factor is a little higher to to put it in simple terms if the iPhone takes 10 images all will be usable and 8 will be amazing the Oneplus will be 9 useable and 7 amazing. but at night its just on another league.
The display is as good as it gets on a phone.
Speakers are decent and very very usable.
Rooting and bootloader unlocking is easy, just back up your stuff and always remember the phone might brick at any moment so having a backup for everything is really important.
DRM keys are restored after a bootloader lock.

Yes, the Oneplus is better.
This should be your main phone, IF
You value custom roms and unlocked BL
You like a 120hz LTPO panel
Shelling out 900-1000 dollars (in most cases) is OK with you
Thanks for the reply’s I mainly want it to be a decent camera and a top not screen with regular updates and fixes and decent sound quality
will all the updates would you say it’s better then the iPhone 12 Pro Max camera?
is it true that the sensor in the op9 is the newest Sony sensor and it’s quite a bit bigger then the iPhone
Also does anyone notice any different between the 1 billion colours vs 16m

Its a toss up between the both in camera quality, the problem with reviews is that they have limited time with limited sceneries.
I have been using the 12 pro max and the OP9p since release, the 12 has a weird processing that has been adapted as the phone industry standard for some reason although its not the closest to real life
(Its weird how reviewers kept pushing the narrative that close to reality is best but suddenly its quite the opposite and what looks fun is best)
the portraits look warm and full of life on the 12 compared to the 9 (Weirdly enough the 8 pro had a very close portrait processing to the 12 pro max)
Skin tone is more natural on the 9 after the updates specially with darker skin subjects.
HDR is more aggressive on the 9 most of the time but it doesn't have that over processed quality to it.
A lot of people will be disappointed the second they start using the camera because of how different it looks to the iPhone but when you compare them side to side you instantly see that they are 99% identical in 90% of the scenarios (With the 9 having the higher res)
Video is still an iPhone thing although its really good on the 9
And yes it has the newest two sensors from Sony imx766 and imx789

And does the whole 1 billion colour gimmick run all the time or just in supported apps ect cause if so I’m assuming there isn’t much to take advantage of it
Also I’ve downloaded YouTube vanced but it seems to have a totally different colour tone to the videos ect compared to the official YouTube app
seems as if it’s not using and of the display tech modes from one plus

There are max brightness etc settings in YouTube vanced. Look around in there
Camera? If you work for Samsung, iphose, yes..., is bad.. ohh, the worse..
The display is the best on the market. I don't like the curved edges, but that is another story..
Oxygen is one of the best, clean Android. Samsung is champion of bloatware!
OnePlus phones are known for easy to root.
What would you guys say has the best display out of the oneplus 9 pro and the s21 ultra?
Hi all I'm looking at maybe keeping this device if its better then the s21 ultra (exynos)
Just a question I'm looking at rooting and flashing a custom rom do I need to unlock the bootloader if I'm flashing a oos built rom and custom kernel?
Also is there work arounds for banking apps,Netflix etc
And do we loose any features at all that cannot be reverted like knox in samsung devices
I never buy Samsung with exynos !!!
You can NOT root without unlocking the bootloader.
No. OnePlus is not Samsung Creap! You can revert to factory settings.
