that might be worth reading. As regarding if it will be permanent i am not sure..guys on xda as such geniuses they will probably find a way to unlock it so time will tell
Until AT&T decide to be nice to you guys or someone develops an alternative method, you're stuck.
The AT&T One X has its own section:

No, nothing is bullet proof. Even the iPhone was jailbroken, right? Sony Playstation....And the list goes on and on. This phone has been available for less than a day. So I just imagine with some time, we'll see it unlocked. IF (and I know it's a big if) the Sense UI doesn't crash I may not even bother unlocking it in the future...The only reason why I'd want to see this phone unlocked is to put a ROM with stock Android ICS on there and also a ROM that would hopefully increase performance/battery (though we'll see how battery goes, apparently it's real good!) and of course to remove any pre-installed bloatware...The bloatware removal is perhaps the most important of all 3 benefits there with the custom ROM. Other than that, this phone is awesome! So get used it while you wait for the unlock and see what you do and don't like.

You can remove bloatware by disabling it in settings.

Root Possibilities

I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself but I have an upgrade coming soon for my contract and have been heavily researching all the phones out there at the moment. I really like the idea of the z5 premium with obviously the 4k display, the ip68 rating, and especially the microsd card slot. My one question is that, coming from my most recent phone, the Verizon Note 4, I was very dissappointed with the fact that I could not root the phone and could not utilize my favorite form of android, Stock, Pure Android.
So I guess my main question is, considering my lack of familiarity with Sony devices, I was wondering what the chances that I could ultimately root and install an "almost" stock ROM on the Z5 Premium were?
Well it is impossible to say this early but judging to earliel relases, root method has came everytime in less than 6 months to newest device. its basicly when someone invents root method to 5.1.1, its gonna be converted to xperia devices too soon. Ofc after that a little longer for carrier modded ROMs. (we dont have such crap here) Cannot say about 6.0 or other updates yet. Then if you want Recovery or flash ROMs you need to wait for people to make them for Z5P, gonna take some time too. Considering your lack with Sony devices youre in luck, if you have any experience with rooting/flashing, its like taking candy from a baby.
hope this clears a bit, even tho i didnt give much of an answer !
I may be mistaken here, but I don't believe the t-mo variant of the Z3 was rootable. The bootloader unlocking was not possible. That may have changed since I owned it, but that's my recollection.
Cant say, we dont have variants here, even carriers are selling sim unlocked versions.
Any news about root possibilities now ?
Root can be achieved through being flashed through recovery
However root tools wont come till someone finds a exploit

Canadian v522 custom support?

I'm getting a tablet from Rogers this week so I'm doing some research
To see what kind of support there is for customization of the v522 lg g pad 3 8.0
Can we root it?
Custom recovery?
Any roms that are compatible across models?
Thanks for any info
What I have read so far is a bit old and confusing (calling the Canadiann model 521 not 522 etc)
This website claims that it is rootable... but i trust xda a not random websites found with Google
Can any one report if this works?
(I would try it myself but my tablet is a gift and I don't have a receipt for warranty(and it's a hour drive to anywhere that might warranty it from my small town ))
https://giveawaytricks.in/root-install-twrp-recovery-lg-g-pad-x-8-0/
PREREQUISITE TO ROOT AND INSTALL TWRP RECOVERY FOR LG G PAD X 8.0 :
This TWRP is for LG G Pad X 8.0 (V521, V522, V525)
You need a Laptop or PC
Charge your phone to at least 70%
It has downloads. For the 521 tmobile rom which they claim you can install on the 522 and 525
And twrp for the 521 also they claim you should use flashify to install the recovery.
Now I know lots of devices can use other similar model recovery and roms..
But I trust xda to verify and lead the way for custom devices not a web site like this.
This post on xda mentions that the boot loader for Canada is not unlockable
(If I read it right)

Was wanting to ask the same question, I looked everywhere and no clear answer? For my phones it was really straight forward and I had a redmi and lemax, not exactly the most popular phones... looks like we're out of luck?
There was a new exploit found that might be used to get root.
It is called "dirty cow" now if we can get one of the wizard like developers to see if this can be used to root this device (And others that are hard to root)
Here is some more info about the dirty cow exploit. Not sure if this can be used to root the 522 or others.at least not permanently. But it might lead to a method to do so

Would be nice if 522 and 521 are compatible kind a like all those Samsung phones.

Carrier phones and tablets in the US, including Samsung phones are never compatible with other variants.
Only international Samsung phones like in the Europe or Asia may be compatible with other variants.

I have the Samsung S4 which had a couple of variant, mine was jtfxxx and later on able to just flash the jtflte. I'm not saying all of them would work, but normally those with only last digit differences should. There were I9500, 9509, 9506, 9515, i think they were all compatible.

None of those are from US carriers. My point is that don't expect any US carrier devices, including Samsung devices, to be compatible with other variants or vice versa.
Also for Samsung devices, those with only last digit difference should not be compatible, as soon as they are US variants.
Like the note series, US variants N920T, N920V, N920P are not compatible with any other N920x, even though they differ by only the last digit.
If you mean custom Roms like Cyanogenmod, the developers can make one rom to fit multiple variants with same chip set. If so, it has nothing to do with LG or Samsung. CM Roms can also be compatible with multiple variants for LG devices, like the L90, even though they have completely different model numbers.
Just wondering if there is any further developments on rooting the Canadian LG Gpad III,
I too am looking at picking one of these up as they're getting pretty decent reviews and would like to root it too.
Anything in terms of new development here?
Anyone root this tab yet?

It's a shame about no root. Nougat on this thing is awesome. Great value this tablet
They achieved TWRP and Root on this tablet a long time ago, August of last year to be exact.

I would appreciate it.
Based on my research our v522 has a locked bootloader.
Not one youtube video.
All research for me has pointed to it not working. Which is terrible because this device is lacking in its full potential. Was able to get adaptable storage working, make sure you have a u3 speed SD card this way apps on SD card will load faster and not lag.

Samsung to htc

I'm looking to get away from Sammy and move to htc... do you guys thing I should go ahead and get the HTC 10 or just wait for the 11. I'm wondering how long it takes to gain root on these devices once they come out. Root is a requirement for me now. So if I wait for the HTC 11, normally how long do they take to get root. Or should I just get the 10 since it has development already?
Thanks for any help

I don't think anyone knows enough about the 11 to know what kind of security measures htc will put on it. Your experience with Samsung should tell you that on some of their newer model variants root is still not easily achievable even after a year, and nothing is stopping htc from doing the same this year (though it would be surprising). If you're in no rush, wait a couple months to see what the 11 will be like. You'll still be able to find a 10 at that time. Else if you can't wait, you can get a 10 now, some good sales going on right now for this amazing device.

Honestly, at the moment the S8 definitely has my attention, every now and again Sammy blows the competition out the water.. The S2 the S3 and personally I loved the S5
They have to do extremely well with the S8 and I have to say that with the reported specs and the look of the device, it's an intriguing device indeed..
The htc 11 will be a beast, it'll have the bootloader unlockable as it always does, root will not take long, sunshine will be there.. Venom rom, leedroid, cm, but until I see what it looks like I couldn't comment..
At this moment in time the only device I'd recommend outside of the htc 10 is the pixel, bought it for my daughter and its a monster of a phone. The camera especially.
Overall I'd wait for the S8 to drop then by that point, hopefully the 11 should have more info.
I'd wait but not necessarily for the 11, or the ocean as it's currently known because it looks like they're breaking from numbers for model names. Samsung have got the S8 and Note 8 coming out, there's the OnePlus 4, whatever LG and Huawei have coming, wait. Definitely wait.

Sony are due a good phone to be honest. All theirs have been identical.
Never been a fan of LG or Huawei besides the 6P which was decent.
Pixel is a beast though, I'd definitely consider it if I was looking. But again the 11,S8 are probably worth waiting for.
What about an OnePlus 3T? Would be an option as well
Not sure what development is like but I like the nubia phones, their flagships are really good looking. Edge to edge screen. Not sure on specs but it looked good to me.

[TMobile] Will the phone come with a unlockable bootloader?

As the title asks, will the Tmobile variant come with an unlockable bootloader?
If so, are we likely to get development for this device?
i just tested a sprint moto z2 force on the unlock site. It was approved and the key was given to unlock. So there is hope at least they are unlockable!
If the bootloader is unlocked, I am sure we will end up with some development on the device. May be a bit of a tough sell for some with the 700+ price tag though with the other phones that are out/coming out in next couple months. The upcoming Pixel 2 and V30 in particular being ones I could see affecting purchases of this device. I'm not so much worried about devs going Note 8, as if the S8 is any indication, this year's Note will be equally if not MORE difficult to get anything working along the lines of root, etc on it. Also, the OnePlus 5 is outfitted with similarly eye-catching specs and already has established development.
That being said, last year's Z seems to have a bit of development on it, so I'll be willing to bet we see this Moto get some love.
Yes, the T-Mobile version has an unlockable bootloader
You just convinced me to get one....but that price just don't justify the purchase. I may wait until the price drops a little bit first.

i wouldnt expect much for v30, current dev for a v20 and it sucks lol, and the exploit that got the v20 bootloader unlocked was only due to dirty cow kernel exploit being unpatched on the device, all devices this round wont have that flaw by default so v30 is a long shot for root. Most of the devs on the v20 went to a s8/s8+ device, or they are waiting for the note 8, they seem to be going to the unlocked international models but the dev is taking a good bit of time and alot of new issues have come up with them no doubt,
Motorola is just coming back into the game for everyone so there is some unknowns and what may come, but to see the z2 force finally hitting all carriers and being unlockable from the get go is amazing. Im def going to be building a rom for this device shortly. Waiting for my empl. account to have access to a personal z2 force then ill be dumping my v20 no doubt

LoL! I haven't had an LG since the G4.
S8 is cool and all, but as with most Sam devices, mine started slowing as time went on.
This phone isn't without it's flaws (no real water resistance, shatter screen can scratch, smaller battery). However, I have noticed it's an improvement over s8 in some ways as well (headphone audio, fingerprint scanner, build feel....I'm a fan of aluminum over glass body).
Looking forward to seeing what gets done with this device.
Just unlocked my bootloader on the Motorola site!
I wrote a guide in the guides section. Yes, it is unlockable
AT&T is locked.

Well if the tmo variant is unlockable as some are saying it is youll see custom roms guaranteed. Can't speak for others but expect some DU love down the road.
Just unlocked my bootloader from the Motorola site. T mobile variant.
VZ is locked, moto webpage says not eligible to be unlocked. so it goes.
Is there any reason to unlock it just yet?
Just curious about this but what is the setting in developer options after you activate them called OEM unlocking? It has a toggle that says allow bootloader to be unlocked. Does that have anything to do with this or do you still have to get it unlocked from the manufacturer?
It does. It needs to be set then follow the manufacturers instruction. Keep in mind just getting the code will void your warranty.
