Project coming soon (prop 215 app)

Well I am interested in developing an app but would like to gauge some interest. Here are the details of the app:
1. App will take advantage of built in light sensors to read your lights lummens output.
2. App will have a nutrient calculator based on (advanced Nutrients, Canna, Dutch Masters, and General Hydroponics)
3. App will also include nutrient charts for all the companies.
4. App will include a DB of pictures with descriptions of different plant diseases and deficiencies.
I have more ideas as well as in how to optimize air flow for your room and much more also will include for outdoor growing as well.
If your interested in seeing an app like this for our winmo phones let me know through this thread and i will post updates and beta versions once they are ready if there is enough interest in something like this.

it is coming along. right now the strain app supports WVGA 480 x 800 resolution. follow my progress in the thread in my sig. I should be about a week away for the MJ's Strain Guide beta. all that is posted right now is an alpha so you get a feel for the UI. Still a lot to do.

I know what you mean. I hope this app helps guide people but when it comes down to it a major factor in your outcome is the genetics. bad genetics of a good strain will give you bad results. i am attaching here a alpha version of my strain app. its also located in the HD2 app section. im not sure it will work on other phones as i have a hd2 right now. I due plan to port to other resolutions and sizes after completion. It will be easier as its just resizing of what i have done. I am also bringing in some friend to port the app to android and iphone/ipad and to make a windows pc based version. if anyone has suggestions or think they can help in anyway let me know. i can always use the help.

This is the 4th app i have ever made in my life.
Notes:
when app is installed and launched you will get pop up menus. These are due to the controls. Currently they are trail controls. I am sending a payment to get the full license to that will be removed by beta.
currently all list are populated but no data is inputted so when you try to launch a strain in kinetic scrolling it will do nothing. Only one works right now. It is located in Sativa Strains List. It is Cannalope Haze. Let me know what you think of how the data is displayed. If you install this on WVGA device 480x800 it should work so HD2/TP2 should look perfect. Let me know what device you have it installed on and your screen fitment issue only if its WVGA. QVGA and WQVGA are not supported.

Update:
I have attached a newer version it is the latest i have made so far. I have updated the indica and sativa list and updated how the data is displayed for cannalope haze. The way the cab is made is different so now it will ask if you want to install on sd or phone. I also finally added an icon for the app. i still have a long way to go but i hope you like where its going.

[Q] Choosing a framework for hybrid app

I'm starting developping with Phonegap. I have a first app to make which will be quite heavy, technically speaking. A lot of data retrieving, many different displays... I need advices to choose the framework to use.
I have read a lot on Jquery Mobile, the most widely used today and the one I feeled comfortable using since I already know Jquery... But it has many issued I don't want to deal with (UI is too much IOS, sometimes gets very slow because not using hardware acceleration, no MVW structure...). Plus, one of the Phonegap creators told in a post it's not a good idea to use JQM with Phonegap since it's too heavy : sintaxi.com/you-half-assed-it
I read a lot on many blogs, forums, on stackoverflow... The paid side has many great things like Sencha Touch, KendoUI or PhoneJS. Any of them could be good. I just don't know if they worth paying since there are a lot of free solutions.
Then two of them got my attention : Ionic ( ionicframework.com ) and OnsenUI ( onsenui.io ). Both seems pretty cool and with great features, native look and hardware acceleration use, but... One is in Alpha, the other in Beta ! Is it reliable to use such tools, that seems not ready for production ?
Some just advice to use Bootstrap... Some say to use Zepto ( zeptojs.com ). A lot of these advices were given 1 or 2 years ago.
Well... As you see, I need actual advices, and preferably from people who already tried many of these solutions

Hi i too work in mobile web applications. I suggest you to have look more into the sencha touch. Sencha is not fully paid framework. There is a gpl version of sencha which most corporates uses . the advantage of sencha is it can be used with phonegap or without phonegap. Also the docs are well documented and you will get an easy hello world application using the sencha cmd tool. The sencha docs is designed such that we can even try our code directly to alter the shown examples.
Ok as developer view sencha erradicates the most difficult part of mobile web app developmnt.ie the ui. Ui is well documented and created such that we doesnt want to deal much with ui issues when it is moved from devices to devices and os to os.
For heavy applications this is best because the sencha apps are mvc structure. I have beem worked in sencha apps that have more than 16 differnt screens on its own.

Hi ! Thanks for your comment. I'm considering Sencha could be my final solution. I have read somewhere that coding in everything else than its own IDe is very bad experience, and the IDE comes with the paid version only...

I finally launched the project using the Ionic very promising framework. If it doesn't fit in I will give a try to Sencha. Thanks for your help, I will come back and tell about my experiments !

Ionic looks great, but with Gingerbread still holding a 20% market share I'm wary. Chocolate Chip UI seems pretty cool, and Sencha and Intel's App Framework seem promising as well.
How did things go with Ionic? Is it really only functional on 4.2 and above?

Hi friend,
I'm sorry but I have very little time to work on my app, so I didn't see much already... I will eventually come back to tell about my experience with it, but it will be only in some more time !
However, all I saw about it sounds even more amazing than just promising !

I've made mobile sites using jQuery Mobile and although it was very good at what it did, I always felt like I was trying to swat a fly with a tank. It's large, it's heavy and it does a LOT more than you need if you're just looking for a UI.
I've switched to Bootstrap for web apps. It requires jQuery which is good, since I'd not want to have to use a different library for DOM manipulation, and it's very lightweight. Also, it's quite easy to skin (much easier than jQM) so changing the overall style is easy. There's also a lot more custom-built themes out there for it than there is for jQM.
tl;dr Use Bootstrap and jQuery (not jQM). Compact, easy and quick.

Take a look at ratchet goratchet.com . Its 2.00 version is very new and lightweight.

today, I am working with ionic and angular js, using visual studio to code, I think ionic is really common with better default ui than default control android. ionic have 1.x stable and beta at 2.x

I recommend 2 Angular Ionic 2, if you start a project.
Angular 2 is in release candidate
Ionic 2 is in beta, but it works well
Performance is much better with Angular 2.

Currently the beta.10 is sufficiently stable. We must work with workarounds for some points.

I have used cordova for my android application 1 year ago with eclipse. I can say that android was the easiest to create among others (iPhone apps, windows or blackberry) It was also quite fast working like a native app although it was hybrid. I also added voice detection with android. There are many plugins for cordova for adding different features to your hybrid mobile app.

I am using Cordova for my wp8 apps developments. I had trouble adding the sound plugin but finally i succeeded. It is a nice framework.

Cordova + Angular2 + OnsenUI2
(wanted to post this in a new topic, but forum rules demand I make a few posts first)
I was having much of the same question (but with a much humbler ambition of an app), so I did some research and set my mind on this trio of frameworks:
Cordova - for the code-once philosophy
Angular 2 - for an easy implementation of the model-view-controller pattern
Onsen UI 2 - for polished UI components
Problem is, I'm a bit of a newbie at this, and while everything makes sense when reading the Getting Started page for each framework, putting everything together hasn't quite occurred yet in my mind. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the project started, and figure out what its directory structure should look like.
I'm wondering if anyone here would be willing to spend an hour of handholding mentoring to help me get started?

[Q] TuneIn no longer integrated in the car app?

Two of my most used apps in Sense are the car app and the internet radio app TuneIn.
It was really useful in previous version of Sense to have those combined, and controlling and viewing TuneIn from within the Car App was an awesome feature that was a nonstop use for me.
It seems however that in Sense 6 it no longer exists!
Anyone know if custom roms somehow have reclaimed this feature, and if it's even possible?

I really loved that feature too, it's a shame it's gone.

I'd like to make a suggestion for a different app, try Xiia Live (Pro), it is really superior to TuneIn. Check out their website too.
I'm a sysadmin for a podcast. Used to do a lot with Tune In. But then the Tune In crew changed everything that made their app nice, removed features, and added features nobody wants. Apart from that, their Pro app is over €11 !! And nothing goes to the community. Really, they are not helping the podcast community.
Xiia Live is interesting for developers too... And they make use of public radio directories.
Plus, you should take a look at the interface. I am hoping that this app will become the more popular one, because it actually works together with podcasters and radio stations.
Finally please note - I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I'm just a fan!

2 Questions, Want to design my own launcher, and trying to find a decent HU

Hi guys, been a while since i posted on these forums so bare with me...
But lately as I'm soon going to be restoring a Z3 ive been looking into the headunits going around.
And truth be told i prefer the Chinese ones to the international branded ones like pioneer.
But i have a few questions so I hope this is the right forum.
My coding experience is limited but not non-existent. I've grabbed android studio and had a nice look around at it. Going to try come test projects on it to get the hang of it before I start any serious work.
My plan is to build a new homescreen launcher with a built in radio/music player. As I feel when looking at the android launcher they put on just doesnt sit right with the main function of this device... IE its a radio and music player...
So Im going to build a new front end with all the controls available to the driver in a safe easy to use way.
So now the questions
Are there any tips on building launchers for these units?
The USB DAB+ stick thats been mentioned many times here. How do you access the steams and communicate to change frequencies and such with it? (I realise thats likely an indeph question and is probably detailed in an SDK somewhere if you can point me to that SDK or detail that would be great)
The CD/DVD unit built into the headunits. how is the audio stream handled? Does it bypass android completely and go to the preamp in the unit? Or is there some sort of interface with android? Even to only provide software controls?
Also can the CD/DVD drive be used for data? I guess if it bypasses android thats a no
Now for the Units.
Theres many nice ones with decent facades, but im having trouble finding the right one. Joying seem good but being in the UK, where can i order it without being charged duty. Is there any UK/EU distributors?
Also im looking for ones with the higher res screen and 2gb ram... That seems very hard to find together along with a nice facade... There are ones that have touch sensitive controls and no CD/DVD drive, but that defeats the purpose and tbh make the unit less safe to use. This is for a car remember...
So any tips?

Lets try to simplify it.
1) Are there any tips of guides to building your own launcher?
2) Is there any kind of SDK for the realteck DAB+ stick, how do you read streams and manipulate frequency ect...?
3) How do the Units handle the DVD/CD drive, does it bypass android and go straight to the amp or is there some sort of interface with android?
4) Do the drives read data? Such as MP3 cds that android can pick up? (my assumption is no, im not sure android supports optical drives)
5) Are there any confirmed decent UK or EU distributors for the headunits we see from joying/ownice......?

Not to discourage you but your plans about a new launcher might not be worth it as you can already replace the launcher in these units with any Android launcher. There's even some that are already geared towards driving.
If you want to go full-on custom you could use something like Lightning Launcher and pretty much customize every little thing.
For the music and radio controls there are some re-skinned widgets in the Software forum. Without source code I don't believe you are going to be able to go much further than this. I prefer Poweramp over the stock music player so I just use one of its widgets, would be nice to have something similar for the radio though (although internet-based radio apps are always an option).
The other questions I don't have answers for.

Finally dumped Apple for Galaxy Tab S - A few questions if I may....

Hi all, I have finally had enough of Apple (and planned obsolescence!). I have never used Android before, got myself a Galaxy Tab S and once I learn how to use it well, I will be dumping my faulty iPhone in favour of a Galaxy phone as well.
I bought a used Tab S with 4G in lovely condition. Just turned it on and it says Insert Sim. I skipped that and it said "Many features will not work without an active Sim".
Therefore the first question I have is how much to read into that message?! Do I believe it? I don\'t plan on using a data Sim, only want to use WiFi. Will the Tab S work just fine without a cellular SIM or is it going to give me constant errors and problems? If the latter I may have to sell it in favour of a non SIM version. Any advice appreciated. I quite like the idea of being ABLE to use a data SIM if I want to some time, hence why I bought it.
Second question is I DESPISE Google and all the tracking stuff. I use a VPN much of the time. A friend of mine has a Galaxy Tab and said I should "root" the device. Can anyone tell me the main benefits of doing so? I am trying to work out how necessary is it (as I am short of time so won't do it unless it will give me benefits). I intend to use VPN and try my best to prevent google tracking what I watch on youtube, what searches I do, and just about anything else I can. I also notice that for Earth and Maps to work, I obviously need to let it know my location (which I don't generally like doing but understand the trade off and will do it in this case). Is there a way (perhaps via rooting) to enable GPS location sharing without feeding GOOGLE my whereabouts (i.e. using other map software instead of Google's)?

SIM Card allows having such things like mobile data (this works just the same as the iPad LTE) and voice calls from a tablet (this feature is unique to Android - you can make voice calls just like it is a big phone, using either built-in mic and speakers or via Bluetooth headset). If the SIM is not inserted, there will be no problems - you can safely dismiss the warning.
Regarding the Google-free experience and rooting. Rooting is direct equivalent to iOS jailbreak. Both result in getting root shell (# or uid 0).

Also, Google services are not present by default in LineageOs but can be flashed separately. However, I am already more than a year without Google services and apps.
For example, I use K-9 Mail + OpenKeychain from F-Droid open-source app market to use GMail with OpenPGP support.
F-Droid is the primary marketplace app having opensource applications. For closed-source apps available on Google Play, the open-source Google Play client app named Yalp Store offers the same functionality as play market but not requiring Google services.
Youtube client I use is Newpipe, opensource app available in F-Droid. There are other clients too, like SkyTube.
Google Maps can be replaced by OsmAnd+ - an opensource client for OpenStreetMap infrastructure, again available from F-Droid app store.
Office application suite I recommend is Hancom Office - it is free for Samsung devices, and it processes documents faster than Office365.
Also, I made it work on LineageOS and other custom ROMs.
I use Brave Browser as a primary Web browser, as it is opensource app based on Google Chromium code but heavily de-Googled and having some cool features like embedded ad-blocker.

I confess most of what you said went straight over my head, ROMS and such like, but I will learn as there are clearly some great tips in this post.
So - fine without SIM, cool thanks.
Flashing - gonna take some time to learn but I think the link you posted is what I need, I have the SM-T800
So Lineage is an OS, is that right? And it comes free of Google bloatware/spyware?
I can't believe there are ways to view youtube and maps etc without giving Google your retinal scan. JUST what I hope to do!

Strange the T800 has no dedicated SIM slot, it is WiFi only. T805 does have a SIM card though. You can check it opening Settings - Phone info. Also you can use the dialer to enter a magic code *#1234# to get info about your firmware (pay attention to PDA and CSC values). Would be good if you provide these here before you start any flashing.
LineageOS is a community built distribution of Android OS (like Ubuntu or Debian are GNU/Linux distributions) with some additional tweaks like Privacy Guard (a framework giving you control about permissions application ask, like a consent or denial to read contacts, GPS location, phone number etc). Full disclosure: I am an official maintainer of LineageOS for SM-T805 and I belong to the team creating LineageOS for other devices on the same chipset, like SM-T800, SM-T705, SM-T700, SM-P600 etc. There are also ResurrectionRemix ROM based on LineageOS and also there are de-bloated stock ROMs based on latest available Android 6.0.1 official factory OS. The official LineageOS is based on Android 7.1.2, and there is a (not very stable) 8.1.0.
I was a long-term fan of Firefox on Android (and I still am on PC!), but Chromium engine is twice as fast on our tablet (90.08 for Brave vs 45.04 for Firefox in browser benchmark)

I am SO busy at the moment with work and family stuff, not sure when I can get round to this and it looks like I have a lot of learning to come which I am dreading a bit with my schedule as it is! Don't suppose there is any chance someone (if not yourself) on this forum offers any kind of service? By that I mean, I post the Tab with cash to cover the job, and someone roots it and does the things you have mentioned then post it back? Probably a bit too much wishful thinking, but if you don't ask.......

This can be done remotely via TeamViewer - you can be around and follow my commands like press home button etc. The rest is done via ADB on PC side. But write me in PM next week - I have some things to do that I promised before.

That's too kind of you. Not sure if you mean Teamviewer with the actual device or another computer. I am in no hurry at all. My device is factory stock right now, been reset and I am not doing anything with it for now.

I don't suppose (given your knowledge of privacy issues etc) you know of a secure alternative to Skype? I am talking mainly about a desktop app. I have researched many times over the past year and it seems to me that every time something decent gets going, they get shut down or just close down without much explanation. Sure seems suspicious in some cases. Best I could find was ViPole, which is good although has some weaknesses. I can't believe nobody has made something that can do the basic stuff Skype can do! (text, video/voice, screenshare and file share). It's so simple by today's standards! Of course plenty of options until you get to P2P or encryption, then there seems to be nothing which actually works very well at all! Just in case you know of anything?

Look for Signal and qTox.

Thanks. Tried and still use Signal, although it's got some flaws and not at all sure I trust the privacy side. I really need screenshare too which it doesn't have.
qtox and utox i have tried, tried all the tox chat programs. Completely buggy and unusable. Nice and secure though , which makes it a shame they can't make the software work properly! notifications dont work, cam, calls completely broken. unusable.
I looked at variuos others but it's all going over to apps for smartphones and tabs now, I want a desktop app. Maybe Skype through VPN would help a bit, but not ideal!

To accelerate the process of bringing up the quality of opensource projects, one must at least report the bugs timely. Have you filed a feature request? We all donate either our money, or our time to the community. Some of us donate both

Ha, yes I do make reports whenever I spot anything. I am talking to one of the developers about it but I don't see it getting fixed as the impetus seems to have gone and no way they will add screenshare I dont think. I will try though yes, least I can do in the hope that someone produces something useful but not "in bed" with the government!
