Would the A70 go with MetroPCS? - Samsung Galaxy A70 Questions & Answers

I have an old Alcatel Fierce 4 and would like to upgrade to the A70. I was wondering if the A70 would be compatible with MetroPCS.

Yes but make sure you buy a model that has LTE bands 2,4,5,12
Here is one https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/sear...msung+fct_model_4509|galaxy-a70&N=3955685938& or
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-GA...=2738464290589d209234313b4052b1769356cbabbfaa

I bought mine from the ebay seller posted above.
If you notice the box in their advertisement, you'll get "2x Memory." This is true. You'll get a free 128 micro SD card. The seller advertises a 36gb card or something but it's 128 gb, as it should be if it's supposed be "2x" because the phone itself is 128gb.
Anyway, I'm on Tracfone and the A705MN works on At&T or T-Mobile sim cards. I tried both and it works on both.

Yes and no...
I've activated two Samsung Galaxy a70's under metro thinking that the initial one (which was brand new) had a defect. after installing my current one which is also brand new I've just realized that metro doesn't support this phone entirely and some features such as video call without having to download an app and Wi-Fi calling doesn't seem to function. When I spoke to MetroPCS they simply said they don't support the phone because the A series of Samsung galaxies are so new and they don't sell it in the US yet.
Hmm...
If anyone else has had this issue or has solved it please feel free
*Shii*

I'm using a70 on metro no problem wifi calling works only band 71 is missing and it's the a705mn

Are you able to Video call? I've been having issues and I have the same variant as you.
And I mean directly video call not through an app...
If that makes sense
Thanks
Shii
Also, if you're not able to use your phone's browser while on a call without being connected to a WiFi network, you're not getting the full benefits of VoLte(to my understanding)...so if you get a moment could you test that out because I'm also no longer able to do that and I upgraded my A70 from an A20....

Don't really do vid call plus I use a custom rom

Indeed, I had the A20 prior and expected the awesome features of the a70 along with the ones I was already getting...big dreams, epic failures
if I keep the device do you think they'll be coming out with an update that will fix this in the near future?
Thanks

Have no clue to be honest but their is an a705u coming out dunno what carriers will get it tho

[Q] Unlocked T989 With Straight Talk

Wondering if anyone here has any experience or recommendations. I moved to an area where T-Mobile service is terrible. I'm considering doing the straight talk bring your phone option and getting the AT&T compatible sim since my phone is unlocked. I'm not sure how this would work as far as what radio i'd need to flash and whether other people have had good experiences with straight talk especially using a "tmobile" device with the at&t sim/service.

So Im taking it Straight Talk runs off at&t towers? I always thought it was verizon guess ill be looking into it more because I have the same exact issue.. I need to find a way to sim unlock my phone for free and if not free then something pretty cheap because I refuse to pay 25$ to websites i question are reliable or not. If you find anything post it and ill do the same for you. Also Straight talk sells sim cards for their service for 10$ if you didnt already know.
With straight talk bring your phone it operates off tmobile and or at&t towers and is gsm. Verizon is cdma and from what i've seen on the straight talk website they don't do cdma. Regarding an unlock call the carrier and as long as you up to date on your bill and have had service for a few months they should provide you with an unlock code for free. There is also a thread around here for a free T989 unlock it's a pretty easy process from what I recall.

Thanks for the info, The reason I didnt try getting A unlock code from tmobile before was because i herd you have to have your phone paid off before they would give you one because you could easily just switch service and keep the phone. Is that true? Because im still paying off my phone they add 20$ to my bill each month because the credit of the account holder wasnt good enough. Im gonna try looking for the thread you mentioned though.
EDIT: Also after i unlocked my phone could I use the same sim ive been using until i buy my new one? Or should i just wait to unlock when i get the new sim card? Sorry for all the questions i just wanna be cautious about this so i dont end up bricking my phone.

If you unlock you can still use your sim. I am getting a rom put on T-989 right now with a Straight Talk Sim card. I unlocked mine back in April but then got the Note. I was on Tmobile but data was horrible outside the big cities. Have been on the AT&T ST sim since last April on my Note and love it. Just wanted to try the GS2 out again and looking for a decent rom. Having trouble with slim bean and CM.

Also tell T-mobile you are going to travel overseas in Europe and you want to use some prepaid plans there. They should unlock then even if still under contract.

Both, the phones they used to sell would have either a "C" or "G" at the end of the model# indicating whether it was CDMA or GSM compatible. Not sure about some of their newer phones though, since I think they also have HSPA phones now.
I would imagine the network they assign you to when you bring your own phone would depend on your current network since I think they still operate on both towers.

When you buy the sim you can select either Tmobile or AT&T. AT&T has better coverage in my area. You can't buy the sim at Wally World. Only online.

"nexus" S4 vs buying one now

I've been debating getting an S4 as the glass on my Nexus 4 cracked. Would there be any difference in buying an S4 now and waiting for the "nexus" version? I plan on putting a ROM on it either way.
If I got an S4 now is there any chance that I would be able to flash the Stock Google image to it when the "nexus" version comes out.
I never knew there was a nexus version of the GS4... although most likely the Google version of the GS4 firmware would work with the M919 (T-mobile version)...
At this point it is pure speculation as if we will be able to use the rom off the pure AOSP version GS4. I am sure even if Google don't support it some rom devs will work on it but I don't want your decision based off of guesses. (heck I may even try to work on it. j/k)
Just my 2 cents.
The Google Edition Galaxy S4 is supposed to come out next month. I have read that it will only be sold from the Google Play Store. It will be $20 more then if you bought the phone full price from T-mobile. It will have an unlocked bootloader and will not be carrier locked out of the box. I'm hoping that T-mobile will not have the IMEI numbers for these phones so that I can possibly use one on a data only account that I have. Currently T-mobile blocks the use of phones that they sell from being used on a data only account.
Im seriously on the fence right now. I have AT&T and i have the money to buy (A) GS4. Im going to buy the Google S4 but im willing to get the T-Mo S4 providing that i can install AOSP on it. Now i know that CM is available for the phone, but what is broken? I have been reading the forums and someone people are stating that there is some weird lags here and there, even on stock android (cm based). Too many options.

Chances are good. :good:
if you can hold out till june 26th, then wait.
even if the tmo version gets the nexus rom through a port, it will take some time, and if you are on AT&T like I am you would not be getting it at the subsidized price. meaning you save 20 bucks for all the trouble of trying to get the nexus rom on it later who knows when.
Let me remind you about resale values, the nexus S4 will likely have a better resale value just on the fact alone that it is "factory unlocked" and LTE is guaranteed to work on either ATT or Tmo.
I have an ATT 32gb S4 right now, and I'm holding out till the Google edition is out, I was thinking of getting another ATT White S4 for my other line but I'm gonna hold out for the Google Edition :good:
The only thing that makes me consider the T-Mo version over the coming Stock Android version is Wi-Fi calling.
Can't you unlock the T Mobile version, once paid for fully. This would allow for compatibility on other GSM networks I believe, since the phone supports other frequencies as well (not just T Mobile). The Google edition S4 appears to be the same as the T Mobile version. Wouldn't a Rom port easily? Couldn't there even be an Odin file to flash the pure Google Rom?
Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition spotted on Bluetooth SIG
According to this link the model number for the GS4GE is GT-I9505G. So it isn't based on the SGH-M919 model that T-mobile uses. Which leaves the question of whether T-mobiles HSPA+42 network is supported or not.

This sort of adds to the confusion. But we know it will have LTE support for t mobile and ATT. The big question is if it will have HSPA+ support. Exactly what Paten said, now I see what he meant.

Nobody outside of Google or Samsung knows for sure, but from a hardware perspective, what additional capabilities could the GT-I9505G have over the M919? After all, doesn't the latter support all GSM/HSPA+ frequencies used by US and Euro carriers, plus LTE support for both TMo and AT&T LTE bands? Is there any compelling hardware-related reason to wait for the Google Edition S4 rather than pick up the M919 now?
I ended up just buying a Tmobile version and using the sim unlock method posted and im now using it on AT&T with LTE with CM 10.1. Eventually they will release the ROM making it a "Nexus" GS4. All in due time. If not i have 30 days to return it for a small "rent" fee of $50. No biggie.

There are a lot of things broke, missing and partially working on the SGS3 and SGS4 AOSP/AOKP/CM10.1 roms.
Here are just a few: many parts of the camera don't work or don't work properly, video playback audio is super low,
sometimes you can hardly hear it without headset, there is no wifi calling at all and none of the touchwiz specific
features are even incorporated into any of the CM10/10.1 roms except for the tw launcher.
I am sure I missed some other issues and problems, but you will only have grief if you use any Cyanogen based AOKP/AOSP or ported roms.
These CM10/AOSP/AOKP roms are really excellent for developers and for those people who want to get into development
or for people who really enjoy experimenting and learning more about their phones.
But for the average or not so average "joe" who wants an excellent full feature custom rom
with everything working properly these AOKP/AOSP/CM roms are just not the answer.
There many other custom roms which are based on Touchwiz Jellybean 4.2.2 stock roms which truly are excellent with all the features of
the S4 working properly without any issues and drawbacks which have always been a deal breaker for most people except developers.
both the versions of phones have their own specifications in terms of hardware and software configurations .. but nexus is some what better than S4 in my opinion.. what you say..

ASUS ZenFone 2 USA model may 18th?

for those still waiting, here is the news.
Its good that they are finally going to do a US release but I don't understand the mentality of only releasing the 2GB RAM version initially to "compete" with this years flagship phones like the M9 and S6. I bought mine from a website that sent it from China and 4GB RAM and it works great, I would love to see a US release mainly for the US based firmware so that it works better on the networks because its just not doing great on signal right now.
WTF. Why would you NOT sell the 4gb when that's like, the selling point of the phone for some people?

I agree. Thats the only thing I want to see out of this release now is better signal. I am not getting LTE for T-Mobile just H+ but it doesn't bother me to much. Everything I am able to do with this phone I am more than happy with. And an update to a 64 bit OS would be nice. Everything ASUS is putting out for this phone is still on 32 bit OS. Which is nonsense when you're spouting everything about 64 bit chips.

Neither one work good for US and CA. You can still call and text but browsing just isnt going to go over smoothly. When I first got it in, it had China's firmware which was difficult to navigate through and didn't have Gapps or any native google support. What I did, and pretty much everyone else that has bought it from overseas what flash the firmware to the European version which is WW. Switching the firmware in and of itself was a pain because the bootloader is still locked. China is CN, Taiwan is TW, and another they just released is JP which I assume is Japan. The European version still doesn't get LTE Signal but runs a lot more smoothly than CN, or TW and gets better signals. If you got it, just flash to a WW firmware and the phone will work awesome.

On the phone, if you install antutu benchmark and check device info on it, it will give you details about the OS. Under it is says Android 5.0 (32bit). They're expecting with the 5.1 update that it will be a 64 kernel. I could be wrong, but this is just what I have seen and what has been mentioned quite a bit in zenfone forums by asus with people complaining.

That Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is looking better now. I hope they sell it unlocked but if it only works on AT&T networks that's okay. I'm leaving AT&T and going to H2O Wireless this month so I'm not buying a locked phone. And yes I know H2O and other virtual carriers will take locked AT&T phones. The good thing about the Alcatel Idol 3 is that it will work on AT&T and T-Mobile U.S. networks.
AT&T is going to render the phone less useful. Also, I doubt the AT&T version will be dual sim. I hope it's also available unlocked via 3rd party retailers, such as Amazon.

Definitive list of differences between carrier locked and unlocked variants

Can someone help in this arena would be good to know the difference. Sammy is giving $600 trade-in on my Note 9 if I go to unlocked or I can get the same with Bestbuy carrier locked to ATT. Why I would like to go Samsung route is that it would give me time to move all my 2FA.
So if anyone has a list of carrier difference and issues pleas let me know

Can someone help in this arena would be good to know the difference. Sammy is giving $600 trade-in on my Note 9 if I go to unlocked or I can get the same with Bestbuy carrier locked to ATT. Why I would like to go Samsung route is that it would give me time to move all my 2FA.
So if anyone has a list of carrier difference and issues pleas let me know

You can actually just go research any of this in the Galaxy S8, Note 8, Galaxy S9, Note 9, or Galaxy S10 forums. They all work the same way.
Same hardware across each of the variants, but the software and the carrier will determine which features work. If you're on ATT and you want WiFi calling and VoLTE, you'll need to buy an ATT device. They check your IMEI and if it isn't on their whitelist, those features won't work, even if you flash the ATT firmware.
All the other carriers you can just flash their carrier firmware.
T-Mobile is the easiest. The only thing that won't work on TMO with unlocked firmware is video calling and RCS texting. WiFi calling and VoLTE work right out of the box.
That is what i figured searched the forums a bit but needed something concise appreciate the info!!

I am using ATT prepaid and I bought the S10 plus last year. I flashed it with the ATT firmware and I got wifi calling working. I plan to do the same for my Note 10 plus.

Cool! Someone just said that doesn't work on ATT anymore, because they now strictly check your IMEI. I use TMO so I didn't do anymore research, just figured ATT changed their system.

I have been using it just fine. I will do it on my Note 10 plus and report back my result.
Well there you go, OP. I guess flashing ATT firmware to your unlocked device still works to activate carrier features. Everything else I said is still accurate.

So right now ATT wifi calling doesn't work with Note 10 Plus but it does work for S10 Plus (and previous models). I am pretty sure this is because the Note 10 is still very new and their system needs some update. I will wait a couple weeks and see what happens.
I called ATT. They told me Note 10 is not on their list yet.
Wow thanks so everything works when flashing the firmware that's great. My wife and I use thr video calling this is great news.

Work in IT daily and easier for wife as it pops up in call.
I would use it, but I use a Google Voice number as my primary number. We used to do Hangouts video calls all the time, but not so much anymore. I guess the romance is dead.
If you flash carrier firmware to the unlocked phone, don't you basically just end up with a carrier phone? If the answer is yes, then what's the point of buying the unlocked phone?

I always use unlocked devices whether it be Samsung unlocked or Google pixels unlocked but all work like a charm on verizon and get basically free unchecked hotspot

So interestingly, there's another thread and people who are flashing ATT firmware to the unlocked version can no longer get WFC to work. They said it works for a few minutes if they give ATT an old IMEI number, but the system will automatically update to the new IMEI and WFC will no longer work. Read page four of the thread to see what I'm talking about.

There's a few reasons:
1. This year the Note 9 is worth $600 towards an unlocked model, but only $300 towards carrier models.
2. The U1 models generally maintain their value a little better than the carrier branded models. Even though it's the same exact device, that little "1" makes a difference for some reason.
3. It's factory unlocked. T-Mo, Sprint, ATT, and now Verizon all come carrier locked. Verizon stays locked for 60 days then automatically unlocks. T-Mo you have to pay it off, or pay cash up front, then wait 40 days with it active on your account before it can be unlocked. ATT again has to be paid off or paid in full up front and then you have to request an unkock and wait for the code. I believe Sprint automatically unlocks it once it's paid off.
4. I've heard conflicting stories, but at least in the past, Sprint was weird about their BYOD program. You could only bring devices with whitelisted IMEIs. That was Sprint devices and factory unlocked devices. If you just got your ATT Galaxy S8+ unlocked and brought it to Sprint, it wouldn't activate, even though it was the same exact device hardwarewise. The IMEI wasn't in their database. So the Unlocked version is more flexible.
5. That ugly ATT box. For some reason ATT will often take the phone out of the nice Samsung box and throw it in a cheap ATT box. See the USA Pre-order thread on here. There's already people complaining about that box. And I'm a packaging guy.
So you might as well get the device that's cheaper up front and holds it's value the best and is the most flexible carrier wise. If you want carrier features and firmware, you can still have them, and no worries ever about a SIM lock. Well except with ATT apparently. If you need ATT WiFi calling and VoLTE, you may be stuck getting the ATT model, from what I'm reading.
Now that said, if you don't have a trade in device, and your carrier is offering a better deal on their model...then by all means get that one.
Resurrecting and old thread rather than starting a new one.
I'm on T-Mobile and looking at either an unlocked Note 10+ which is $200 off right now from Samsung and Amazon or the Note 10+ 5G from T-Mobile. I know this is a bit of an apples to oranges thing, but what I'm wondering about is data roaming. I've heard, but have not been able to confirm is that an unlocked model will not data roam on partner networks, while a T-Mobile version will data roam. I do know that my current phone, an unlocked Essential PH-1 does not data roam, but is this true for all factory unlocked vs. carrier phones? Or at least T-Mobile phones?

T-Mobile customer here. I had an unlocked S7 Edge that would roam just fine on partner networks, in the US and internationally. Haven't had the opportunity to test roaming yet with my brand new unlocked Note 10+ but I suspect my results would be the same as with my S7 Edge.

N976U - IMEI check failing with Xfinity, Note 10 plus 5G

Hi i got a N976U phone that i would like to use with Xfinity mobile, its failing with IMEI check. i spoke with Xfinity csr to add the imei to my existing line , but he would not add since imei check is failing.
I bought a unlock code from ebay and thought will use it.
When i insert the xfinity SIM it did not prompt for unlock code, i believe this phone is unlocked. It does not have any carrier apps.
I tried with a unused Verizon sim and it did not prompt for unlock code.
Can i flash to any firmware that will make it work with xfinity. Any help is appreciated.
Service Provider SW Ver - XAA/XAA/ATT
security patch level is feb 20.
Baseband version - N976USQSTATA4
TIA !!
Flashing firmware for another carrier won't fix your problem. Xfinity Mobile is not accepting any 5G phones from other carriers on their network now. Not even if they're carrier unlocked, and not even factory unlocked 5G devices. Best thing is to contact the seller (and swappa) explain the situation and return the device for a refund.

I wonder if thats the same issue with mine (its 5g also):

So you can't just insert your sim in it and go? I used to have xfinity and used random Verizon based byod all the time

Actually, I think you can if you have a current XM account and device (but I'm not positive because I've not tried it with a 5G device). But the OP was trying to BYOD for a new line, and I believe that's his problem.

Currently I have a note 8(unlocked) with the Xfinity account and wanted to replace it with Note 10 + 5G. I'm not adding a new line.
I put the Note 8 xfinity SIM in Note 10 + and got a message "Not registered with Network" and was not able to make calls.
After I swapped the SIM and put it back into Note 8 , LTE stopped working and had to reset network settings (That's a different story).
But still not able to use Note 10 + 5g with Xfinity. I saw in forums here many people just swap SIM in Note 10 + and it started to work for them, but im not able to do this
When I spoke with CSR she mentioned that I need to add a new line with Note 10 + and activate it and then transfer Note 10 + to my current number and then delete the new account.
I got a SIM card from Xfinity store and called , but CSR checked imei and he did not want to add the imei and create a new line.

That's good information about your SIM swapping experience with a 5G device. It confirms that even if we have an XM account and current device we can't BYOD another 5G device to XM for now. You shouldn't have any trouble returning it under the circumstances, with Swappa's help.
It might be the sim version, I have had some issues in the past fue to this, notably when swapping the sim from an olf device to the new and when the transition between 2g- 3g, 3g-4g, and the last one, 4g to lte+ when my carrier implemented VOLTE calls, , I received a notification to get the newest sim version to be able to use volte, at no cost for me, in your case, it may be something of the sort, just my 2 cents
I checked the imei in Verizon imei checker and i get not supported, are there GSM and CDMA versions of Note 10 plus ? I thought they support both versions

US snapdragon versions support both GSM and CDMA networks. This is all about XM and not allowing BYOD 5G on their network, currently.

@TheMadScientist,
FWIW, I just took delivery of a Samsung factory unlocked (U1 device) Note 20 Ultra 5G, and had no problems with my SIM swap (from my unlocked Note 10+). A lot of others (on the Xfinity Mobile forum) have reported difficulty with this. No problems for me. But I don't have the 5G SIM card and don't pay the extra $3/month/gig for 5G access (since it's non-existent here).
