I've found this forum very helpful, and through my searches I've seen a lot of weird threads that reference placing themes files into the windows folders, or hacks to move them into a different folder. I thought that this was odd, but since I've seen enough of those threads, I thought I should share...
Theme files - .tsk - should be placed directly in the My Documents folder. That's it, no coding necessary, and doesn't need to clutter the windows directory.
Some people may think I'm stating the obvious, but trust me, I've seen a number of posts that make this seem less than obvious.
Cheers,
JoshDV
PS. I've also seen people mention editing the registry to remove programs from the programs directory. All you need to do is browse using the file explorer into windows\start menu\ and move or delete what you want, just be careful.
they dont even need to be in the root of my doc i keep mine in my doc\skins
I don't know where they came from (probably a side-effect of a ROM install) but I suddenly find myself with a bunch of Internet Push links that I don't want. Looked around the web and can find info on how to edit/remove these links. Lots of people seem to have advice on disabling Push Internet, but that is the last thing I want.
How do you get rid of of Push Internet link once it's created? Can't find anything in registry or a Manila folder in Application Data.
Thanks!
bump. Someone must know.
Bump....I'm really searching for this too !!
another bump
I'm too new to post links but look at thread number 548770 and see if that solves your problem.

Unfortunately on Sprint devices (or at least on mine) there is no \Application Data\Manila\InternetPortal-en-us.xml file to edit In fact the \Application Data\Manila\ folder doesn't even exist, and that particular xml file is nowhere to be found on the entire device (doing a search with Resco Explorer, and making sure I have Hide Hidden Files unchecked)
When you are on the internet tab there should be a 'Menu' softkey. In there is a remove option to remove them I think.
Unfortunately no. I have a Bookmarks softkey and a Browser softkey. Neither brings up a menu.
When I make new folders on my phone through my file manager (Solid Explorer), and connect the phone to pc, the pc can't read these folders.
It just views the folders as files with 0kb whatever the size of the folder is,
Other old folders are viewed normally.
This thing started to happen after I have flashed a new rom (Hyperdrive for t-mobile)
Is it a phone related thing or pc?
Thanks

Can this be deleted? Only shows when I boot phone in recovery (CM Mod)
Already deleted - .utsystemconfig - which contained a file called Alvin2.xml google didn't tell me much but people said delete it, lol
Anyone know anything?
bump!
I'd like to know the purpose of the folders as well...
I do know why they don't show up for you normally; in Linux (and Android) hidden files and folders simply begin with a "."
So if you rename a file/folder to start with a "." it will be hidden from normal file listings.
Did you recently install Dolphin Browser or UC Browser? These same files showed up on my phone when I installed those browsers. I believe UC browser is the culprit, but I installed them too close together to be certain. Either way, they both leave unnecessary junk that remains even after you uninstall them.

They both belong to UC.
After some thorough research and logcat inspection, I found out that the ".com.taobao.dp, .UTSystemConfig, .DataStorage" folders were being created by AliExpress app. Earlier I had a similar incident where the "UTSystemConfig" folder was being created every time I launch apps which contain ads. By the way, Taobao is an e-commerce site owned by Alibaba Group.
As checked, there's no browser app as such on my device that could have created this folder, neither any chinese app mentioned above. Exploring how to fix it...

Old thread, I know... I have these on my phone after installing ES file explorer. A Tencent folder has also appeared.
I just got a S21 today and only installed 2 apps so far.
Hello!
I installed LineageOS since Xposed is available for Nougat.
I'm using a Xiaomi Mi5s and since the first day I had issues with the WhatsApp folder.
I backed up my last folder before installing LineageOS.
Then, I installed LineageOS and started using WhatsApp.
Sometimes my folder appeared to have all the backed up data and sometimes not. It was really RANDOM.
Sometimes it used another folder and previously downloaded or sent images/audios sometimes weren't accessible (The app said that the file wasn't on the SD). So I had two scenarios:
1. WhatsApp using the backed up folder, showing all my 2000+ images and audios.
2. WhatsApp using another folder, which started with 0 files and ended with 200+.
These two scenarios were absolutely random.
Sometimes WhatsApp was using one folder and sometimes the other one.
The problem is that in scenario 1 I couldn't access to the files in scenario 2 and vice versa. Neither in WhatsApp nor the gallery nor the File Explorer.
So I had this problem for some time and started to think about it.
Turns out that there was a problem because in my storage there was TWO WhatsApp folders.
The first one is named "Whatsapp"
The second one is named "WhatsApp" (note the capital A).
I don't know HOW I ended having these two folders since the file explorer DOESN'T let you to create similar folders (for example: I can't create "Test" and "TeSt" folders).
Even using terminal and "mkdir Test" "mkdir TeSt" it doesn't work.
So the OS was having issues differencing those ones.
I used ES File Explorer and the folders appear to be the same.
If I were in scenario 1 BOTH folders contained all my +2000 files. In scenario 2 BOTH folders contained the +200 files.
But I couldn't access each folder separately. As I said, it was random, sometimes I rebooted my phone and I was on scenario 1 and sometimes on scenario 2. Even without rebooting, it changed from one to two randomly.
So I backed up my data on both folders (remember, I hadn't access to those folders separately so I had to copy the files in both scenarios)
And then, I renamed one of the two folders to "WhatsApp alternative" and instantly I had access to BOTH folders separately.
So I think the OS can't difference between folders with similar names. If you are having issues with this, the solution is to rename one of the two existing folders but please backup the data before.
I think it's a bug. LineageOS should be able to difference between folders with distinct capital letters and the file explorer, the gallery and all the apps should recognize them separately
I actually CAN'T rename the folders to "WhatsApp" and "Whatsapp" so I don't really know how I ended with that similar folders if the file explorer doesn't let you to do it.
After some research I found the way to replicate it.
First: You need to use the recovery, since you can't make folders with similar names in the OS even using Terminal.
1. Create two folders. One named "Test1". The other one named "Test2" and create a file inside each folder. "Test1" should contain a file named "1" (for example) and "Test2" should contain a file named "2"
2.Go to recovery
3. Use the file explorer built in to rename the two folders to "Test" and "TeSt" respectively. I don't know if this is intended to work or it's a bug, but in my case it works.
4. Reboot the system.
You will start to have issues with those folders. You won't be able to access the "1" and "2" files inside each folder separately since the OS can't difference between those folders.
You can try to do it with two images inside each folder. You won't be able to access the two images separately. Sometimes you will be able to access to the image number one and sometimes to the image number two, but not both at the same time.
I think this needs to be fixed.
Thanks for reading

I don't have this device but, your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread for your device.

Have you tried to replicate the bug in your build? I want to know if this is a bug on my specific device or it's a general problem

My apologies for the delay but, I had started my original post with "I don't have this device".
I had provided the link to post your issue and, hopefully, obtain further guidance.
Good Luck!

In the original post I wrote how to fix it.
Basically you should backup both of your folders first. Then, remame one of the two folders with another name (for example "WA Files") and rename the other one with "WhatsApp" (with the capital A) and finally copy "WA Files" inside "WhatsApp" so you merge both folders.
It's explained in the original post, please read it to better understand the issue
Thanks for sharing, had the same issue with my Mi5 after flashing 20/02/2018 MicroG LOS 14.1. After renaming the new "WhatsApp" folder to "WhatsApp 2" all the files suddenly showed up again, including backups. In fact I couldn't access local backup but only Google Drive one... Hope this can be helpful to others too.
