Pixel 2 XL was running great on Bootleggers ROM. OK Google worked and Now Playing as worked, which I think is somehow linked to OK Google.
Upgraded Bootleggers to latest version and all of a sudden OK Google just won't work and so did Now Playing.
Tried numerous things from clearing Google application data to uninstalling and reinstalling it from play store, moving it to system and whatnot but in no avail.
Installed Colt OS and its not working as well.
I wonder if there's any way to sort this out or anyone has managed to get this working once it stopped.
Everything else in assistant seems to work as expected.
Update:
Restored to stock taimen-pq2a.190305.002 and everything is working well viz. OK Google as well as Now Playing.
I plan on let the system get security update then will try Bootleggers again on top of this and see what happens.
So this is what is happening for all the ROMs except stock.
- Access with Voice Match gets configured during setup but is not enabled
- Trying to enable it brings the Assistant setup screen, and it sometimes takes previous saved voice data but doesn't switched Voice Match on.
- Trying above step repeatedly brings the Teach screen, and a toast notification saying "There's something wrong with Microphone, please try again" and as it can be inferred, the screen doesn't proceeds as phone is unable to hear OK Google.
Phone is on Havoc ROM now, but the problem is still the same. I tried different security patches and old version, but no avail. OK Google and Now Playing is only working on Stock for now.

Thanks for the revert. Yes, on June 2019.
I do not get any message that there's a vendor mismatch. I tried old vendor with new ROM to isolate this issue, but that didn't help as well.

Yes, Clean Flashed always. (Wipe Data + Cache not System)
Currently I'm running Havoc which I flashed on Stock.
The access path you outlined does look different but the gear takes me to the same setup screen which shows your assistant can already recognize your voice.
I could access it through assistant. (Open Assistant -> Compass -> 3 dot -> Settings -> Phone)

I've disabled and enabled access to microphone. Even uninstalled google and reinstalled it from store on Bootleggers but to no avail.
So I posted screen captures of my install for reference. I just tested OK Goole on WiFi and LTE and all is working fine. Maybe you have an app that is interfering? Anyway just wanted to let folks know it's not a global issue with the ROM. This was a clean install also for what that's worth.
Oh and I know my phone number is in there. Lol I grabbed the original instead of the edited one. Blame it on nightshift.

I'm not always sure if it's a ROM or google problem. Today I couldn't get "OK Google" or now playing to work on the latest Crdroid. Same goes for RR.(too much lineage DNA?) I just flashed DU and it works perfectly. Bootleggers works fine as well.
@Edmontonchef
Thanks for the message. I'll do stock -> wipe -> bootleggers today and see what the outcome is.
@CyberpodS2
I'm sure its not a ROM issue, but what's intriguing is why OK Google works on Stock but fails on all custom ROMs at least as of now for me since past month.

Update:
I was highly occupied last week and was traveling so didn't get a chance to work on phone.
But to my surprise last Saturday I was at a bar and I saw Now Playing displaying the name of the song. That night I tried OK Google and as expected even that worked.
Now I didn't do anything other than some applications might have got updated automatically previous night. It could possibly be another application interfering or Google update (if there was one) fixed it.

Latest update: 2018-06-12 To view a changelog, you can visit https://review.lineageos.org/#/q/status:merged+branch:cm-14.1 for a rough idea up to the build date.
Hi all. I was able to compile this stock build of LOS 14.1 thanks to the efforts/hard works of Skrilax_CZ, bhb27, the folks who created RR, and those over at Lineage OS/CyanogenMod. It takes some minor features from RR (i.e. notification light, some tiny performance/battery tweaks, and the ability to install Motorola apps). It is otherwise stock LOS 14.1 and I use this daily. The other authors/devs and I assume no responsibility if you damage your device somehow.
Please don't feel pressured to update any more often than you wish .
Notes:
In order to make my calling work for Verizon, I had to go under Settings -> More -> Cellular networks -> Preferred network type, and select LTE/CDMA (not LTE/GSM/UMTS). I assume GSM users should be fine with the defaults.
Also if on Verizon, you should most likely select VZWINTERNET as your APN under Settings -> More -> Cellular networks -> Access Point Names (might not show up at first, but eventually loads)
My recommendations to install:
Install TWRP if you haven't already
3.1.1 - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=39562 (forum:http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...recovery-twrp-2-8-7-0-touch-recovery-t3180308)
Perform a backup of your current system/ROM (if coming from another ROM).
Perform a factory reset/wipe (if coming from another ROM).
Install the .zip
Install the appropriate google apps.
http://opengapps.org/. I would think nano or micro is best, ARM, and 7.1
Wipe dalvik/art cache if you install another kernel. I highly recommend BHB27 kernel

My device is showing no root on this ROM and if I install super su it gains root but shows no sim card available. Fixed by enabling root permission in development settings.
The rom is almost 100%, the battery is well lasting me .... 1 screen time every 10% quietly, the only problem I really noticed was sending images on whatsapp that is not 100%, you send catch screen and photos taken by whatsapp ... now send images from the gallery do not know why, it just outside joys and once again thank you for your development. @calsurferpunk

I'm not sure what could be going on. I haven't flashed su and just use the stock CM root manager. Enabling root for apps only in developer options makes everything work for me when an app requests it. I did notice that I had to make sure that iSu was setting the policy as permissive (causes FC when set as enforcing).
If not bother you wanted to report a small simple mistake that can not encomodar only to warn even ... In Menu> Settings> Developer Options> animator duration scale, the second option is 0.5x and there is 5x....When I click on the Home screen and select background he simply FC, that's Gallery problem equal to whatsapp that has pictures not ...

So if I flash ROM and iSu says no root, then I just have to enable root in developer options without flashing SuperSU? I actually tried developer option after flashing SuperSU. Maybe that's why it didn't work. Let me know if I am right then I'll try the correct procedure.

That's all that I did and I haven't had any issue yet. I didn't have to change anything with iSu either (even if I did mess with it later just to see what it does).
Just as a quick update, next time I post an updated build I believe I know how to skip including iSu and kernel auditor by default. I'll make sure to include a way to download them and include them separately if this is successful. The goal of this is to keep it as close to stock CM 14.1 and still be functional so that anything you want to add can be done by your own free will .

Hey @calsurferpunk, very good job. But I have to tell u about a bug I notice. When you'll transfer a music from pc to the phone, the music player says "That's impossible to play (Name of the Music)" and in the Google Play Music the music it's with 0 seconds. The music only goes if you put in recovery mode and transfer the mp3 archive while you're at TWRP.

No man, the problem still at the music player which goes installed in the ROM.
I've had this problem before with my Nexus 6P, and I can't seem to solve it on my Pixel XL. The apps I have that use Google Maps do not show the base map layer. For example, in Accuweather Premium, I can see the storm clouds on the map, but the streets, cities, rivers and lakes aren't there. Instead of overlaying the radar on top of the map, I see the radar displayed on a grid, like this:
{

I have the same problem with other apps such as GasBuddy, RedBox, etc that use Google Maps. I also use RadarNow, which uses its own map base, and it displays the map just fine. When I open Google Maps, everything displays just fine.
I have tried multiple factory data resets to correct this, but I can't get it to work at all. I am stock, unlocked via dePixel8, and unrooted.
Any suggesions?

Last time this happened to me, I reflashed the stock firmware and that fixed it.
You could also try uninstalling Google maps/wipe its data.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried wiping cache/data and uninstalling Maps, but it never hurts to try again. I'll also uninstall all the offending apps, and try reinstalling them again.
I wonder if I signed up for 7.1.2 beta, then unenrolled back to 7.1.1 if it might shock my Pixel back into cooperating. Not quite the same as reflashing stock firmware, but it might do the trick.

That I have done. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I am usually pretty selective on granting permissions, especially Location. But it has been granted for all the affected apps.
I even went into my Google account and re-enabled Location History, to see if that helped. I also tried downloading local maps in Google Maps for offline use. That didn't help either.
You can flash the stock image on top of your current image without losing any setup apps/data.
Just remove the -w from the script.
You'll have to update all the old Google Apps again, but the data should still be there.
It is something easy to try.
My guide will walk you through the process.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/info-how-restored-to-stock-soft-t3494478
Remember to remove the -w from the script though!
Or download the -w modded script I added to my thread.
Thanks, Eddie. Well-written guide and easy to follow. I'm waiting for Google apps to update.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
Well, no luck with that. I use the -w modded script and everything went smoothly. However, I am getting the same blank grid where the maps should be.
I think I will try it again without the -w modded script to wipe my data and set it up as a new device. It can't hurt, I've already got everything backed up.

If you deal with it as-is for a few more days, then you can flash the March updates.
The new image should be released early next week and I'll be updating the how-to thread with that new image.

I'm not sure if it's the OG Google maps which is always referred to as beta, or a beta of the Beta Maps. lol
Either way, it's something easy to try.

Given that you have noted that you are cautious about permissions is there any possibility that some other filtering or firewall settings on your device or network is causing things to not work? Just trying to consider other possibilities and am thinking that just because Google Maps works doesn't necessarily mean that other apps that reference Maps services do so in exactly the same way.

Yeah, it has me puzzled. On a whim, I tried a full data reset AGAIN yesterday, and logged in with a new Google account. I gave full permissions to any and all requests. Still no luck.
Hopefully 7.1.2 will trigger something for me. I am tempted to enroll in the Beta program again just to give it a shot, but I'll see what the March update brings us.
any fix on this? I'm having this issue on myradar
I'm on 7.1.2 DP2, and still no fix. I have clean flashed stock 7.1.1 multiple times before I took the 7.1.2 DP2 OTA.
Everything was working fine before I dePixel8ed. I don't know if that is related at all, but it's one of my few remaining avenues to explore.
I know this thread is kinda old; sorry about that, but I have this same problem not just with the Pixel XL but also the new Samsung 8+ both of these phones are stock unrooted and holding the latest version 7 of android
I am too seeing no map data for some apps like GasBuddy but Google Maps themselves work so I thought it was bizzare but then again you never know if Google is playing nice? Maybe this is on Google's end and not allowing those apps to use their map API?
What good are the apps if you can't use the map?
Hi! A guide on how to get Pixel 2 XL GSI working on Vince/Redmi 5 Plus.
This is direct port from Pixel 2 XL with patches applied by ErfanGSI/Telegram servers.
MADE FOR SPECIFIC PEOPLE BY SPECIFIC PERSON. NOT A ROM FOR EVERYONE!
Google Camera 7.0 pre-installed however I highly recommend Google Camera 6+!
NOTE:
- The ROM is best used after the phone restarts couple of times.
- The ROM is best used after updates from Google Playstore are done.
- The ROM needs some time to stabilize and optimize after booting up.
After 2-3 hours of use and after updates are done phone will run very smooth.
You may face some lag/stutters but they will be gone later. It's normal cause stuff is updating.
Download link: MOD EDIT: Download link removed
Installation guide:
1. Extract this "Backup" file.
2. Install Orange Fox Recovery V10.
3. Wipe everything (excluding. Internal Storage).
4. Select "backups" and restore this backup.
5. Reboot into OS and log-in into Google.
If you want your UI to feel like GOD then use this profile in Kernel Auditor:
Performance Profile: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16Xrw0lDYPGs7AbUwgKvtqh5zVkWTbLDR/view?usp=sharing
If you want even more stuff then go ahead and copy and paste this into "vendor/etc" and set permission to 0644.
RIP Thermals: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-TCZSlJh321P_NhBsNhDxcuUYiB-Stlg/view?usp=sharing
Note battery life gets better after 2 - 3 days. Same for performance, UI will be smoother after while.
If something doesn't work go in Settings > System > Reset options and reset Wi-Fi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
Why use this?
- Easy installation,
- A lot of bugs fixed,
- Camera preinstalled,
- Root preinstalled,
- Viper4Android preinstalled,
- OS straight from Google.
- many other things.
CREDITS:
- Strix Kernel,
- Beast Vendor,
- S-GSI from LOLINET (ERFANGSI) (https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/),
- Thanks to everyone on Telegram for overlays and to the entire Treble Community.
Stable for daily use with few minor bugs like hotspot, now playing from google not working.
However most stuff works, padding, rounded corners, google services, all working fine.
UI doesn't crash and there's an overclock and pre-root installed with Viper4Android by default.
What's working:
- Wi-fi connection,
- Internal Storage,
- Camera/Video recording,
- Google Assistant, swipe from corners,
- Double tap to wake,
- Auto-brightness,
- Fingerprint scanner,
- Rooted by default,
- Overclocked by default,
- Safety-net passed by default,
- Playstore login/logout working fine,
- Google Drive fully working,
- Android 10 Full-screen Gestures working,
- Viper4Android installed by default,
- Playground in Camera working by default,
- Dark theme working, in Playstore, GMail etc.
- Night Light, Flashlight, Auto-rotate, Airplane mode,
- Invert Colors, Grayscale, Sounds, GPS, Messages etc...
- Rounded corners, padding, Google assistant, etc...
What's not working:
1) Wi-Fi Hotspot.
Solution: use Bluetooth, USB hotspot.
2) Now playing by Google.
Solution: pretend It doesn't exist.
3) Chrome Freezing
Solution: use other browser f.e Kiwi, Firefox.
- you figure out!

What's the error? Any errors?
Show me some screenshots?
Did you try System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth?
Can't really help you.
Try going into Settings > Network & connection > Mobile network and see If you can do anything there!?
Try removing SIM and re-entering. If nothing worked then sorry you could try Formatting Data? However can't guarantee anything.
I'm using Global Redmi 5 Plus that may be a reason? I can't really think of anything that could cause such an issue.

Sadly I can't help you. Sorry If I ever have some free time I'll post another thread without this bug. For now don't use this.
Thread closed, as requested by OP due to bugs.

I received the last MIUI update for my phone, MIUI Global 11.0.4.0(QGGMIXM), and after that, location access stoped working on dual apps. In my case, I'm using it to play Pokémon Go with two accounts at the same time, now the second one(the one from Dual Apps) is not detecting my location anymore, I have tried deleting all the Dual Apps data and config with no luck, I even tried a factory reset and it didn't work.
I have a friend who is suffering the same issue with the same phone model and MIUI version, so, I think this might be a general bug.
Any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE. User PhilSpencerP3*in reddit post this solution (works for me):
"download the samsung galaxy apps version from*here. this will allow you to use gps and you can run both version at the same time"
P.D. I read that in the next update the problem will be fixed.

Hi,
The MIUI 12 have messed up lot of things one being :
Unable to find the storage for dual apps as you have mentioned above. So just don't worry, we are here to help you out. Until Xiaomi releases the fix for this you can try the following approach step by step:
Download the Xiaomi File Manager (4.2.0.9), you can find it from APKmirror. Here this is the link: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/xiaom...mi-file-manager-4-2-0-9-android-apk-download/
Now just install this apk. If prompted for unable to install from trusted source you may need to enable it via the Developer option by turning this ON -> "Allow Installation from unknown sources"
Now just open the newly installed file manager application and on top left corner, switch the storage to "Storage for Dual Apps"
Bingo!!! Its done now you can access the files of all your dual apps whether its Whatsapp/Facebook/Messenger etc.
Make sure you copy all the files that you need from this storage to an external hard drive/laptop/PC. And once you have taken all the files then you can uninstall this application and re-install the latest version using Google Play Store. You won't have to take a hassle now.
Also if you want to keep using the older version (4.2.0.9) of file manager you can use it without any fear. Please guys if this works for you as it worked for me do support my channel on youtube: https://bit.ly/techNawabs.
