Hey,
Just started using my Mate 20 last night (had it for a few weeks but only just got around to setting it up).
I have noticed that in the SMS app inbox… some of my messages are showing as being from a phone number (with first digit 0 removed), rather than displaying the contact name. I can't see a pattern for why this would be happening (no pattern for number/name syntax/format). All contacts were added and synced to my Google account, then transferred to this phone with the Huawie Phone Clone app (but also synced with Google account).
Has anyone seen this on their Mate 20 (or EMUI 9)? Any solution?
Thanks for your help.
--- EDIT ---
The contacts in question are in my Contacts list, everything looks normal in there.
Get it sorted?
Hi there,
wondering if you found a solution as I have the same problem....

Hey mate, ended up going with Textra, no name issues there.
Looks like it's an issue with the Google Messages app.
same issue here, I have huawei y9 prime emui 9.1, and some of contact numbers not showing contact name, and all contacts already saved in contacts. Dont like to use alternative apps,

Hi I had same problem with P30 and just went into apps and clicked Force Stop in the messaging app and all the numbers reappeared!

Hey everyone,
Can anyone tell me if they've experienced this problem too please. I keep losing one particular contact on my HTC Desire. Once I've saved the contact to the phone, it could be there for a day or for 5 days before the cantact is deleted on its own accord!
Any ideas???
Many thanks.
does the record contain special characters? google sync doesn't seem to be able to handle these

Nope, nothing mate, just a plain old name and a phone number.
When you save it, try saving it as a google contact, then sync it. I had that problem till I did this.

I was set in Google Contact and my Contact still deleted from my Contact
How to fix it?
Try adding it on your PC (in Gmail, via browser). I know it's not really a fix, nor it helps you understand what's going on, or prevent it happen with another contact but ... it's worth trying.
Its actually losing any new contact now. I saved a new one last Saturday, and now its "lost" it already! :-(
I had this problem on stock orange Rom.
Have had no problems since I rooted.
Guys, it seems to happen to any new contact. Any idea why this is happening? I'm not even close to the maximum number of contacts.
Anyone else have this issue too?
I had this issue with my Hero, that it would delete the second phone number I added to a contact, everytime I synced.
I got around this by changing the sync options to "replace item on PC" in the conflicts section, and it worked.
It seems for some reason the sync kept thinking the new data in the phone somehow is the older one or someting.
Give it a go and tell us what happened.
But this isn't even happening when I sync mate! :-( It just doing it randomly, any new contact I add.
Guys, was just checking System Updates on my phone, and Software 1.21.405.2 was available. I've just downloaded and installed it, was looking through me phone including my messages and noticed its added one of my missing contacts!!! :-D Hopefully was bug has been fixed!!!
I had a similar issue a few days ago - I added a couple of contacts to one of the default 'Groups' (Family, Friends etc).
Once added they disappeared from my contacts list on the handset. I moved over to the 'Call History' panel and found them, and switched the group option back off. But they were still not showing in my contacts. I thought they'd been deleted.
I jumped into G-Mail Contacts on the PC and found that they were still in the 'All Contacts' list, but had been taken out of the 'My Contacts' list.
By selecting each contact, and clicking the large 'Move To My Contacts' button on the top bar, they instantly reappeared back on the phone again.
Hope this makes sense and stops anyone wasting time trying putting the contact info back in again.
All this happened before the latest 1.21.405.2 - maybe this has been fixed though.

This is why I suggested adding a contact in Gmail. If you have problems with Google apps (gmail, contacts, calendar) it's allways good to check with the mothership (Google) to see what's going on.

I understand what your saying mate, but I'm a bit of a tart, I'd want all my contacts the same and be on the phone, not as SIM, Google, etc... I know what your saying is an easy fix, but it shouldn't be like that, the phone should bloody manage something simple as remembering a phone number! lol.
Anyways, fixed now, job done.
Yes I have the same problem. I hardly ever sync my phone because I have a Mac. Today my contact of my husband just disappeared, this contact I use the most, has the most details within it.
I know that the new download may fix this, but I use Skype on 3 and I do not know if skype will work after the upgrage. I use Skype to contact my family in South Africa.
Evening!
My WP7 phone has been running perfectly fine but now it wont sync my googlen contacts or calendar and shows the error code 80072F06 or 8600050C, which is very annoying since I keep all my contacts through google due to having used a android phone, any ideas or a solution?
Thanks!!
I had this problem yesterday after I've added an entry of ..
'Pay Andrew $20'..
I removed the $..and now it syncs again?!?
Ah... Just done what you did, looked through my calendar and deleted any newly added events.. and it works :-D thanks TechDave )
funny. good work.
hello world i have a strange issue with go contacts ex app. since changed from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 (it's not a ROM problem) and i create a new contact in go contact ex app, syncing with google account is no longer possible. i get an error "temporary no sync possible ..." but only on syncing contacts. calendar, emails, pictures and so on work fine.
so it's neccessary to delete contact-storage data and google account manager to fix this problem but after create a new contact this error come back. i found out only with stock app is it possible to create a new contact and sync with google account without problems. modify or delete a contact in go contacts ex app is always possible without a sync error.
have anyone else this problem and if so what is the solution? is there a solution? to fix this behavior temporary i create a new contact in stock app.
i feel so lonely no one else with the same rumble in the jungle?
go contacts
I updated my sensation to 4.0 and how go contacts will not display Facebook contacts and it will only show pictures of contacts stored on phone.
I have exactly the same problem: but it's not clear for me how do you manage to solve it (partially)?
Im having the same problem, but for me I even if i clear contact storage i cannot sync... this is really annoying. Im on SGS3 LTE stock rom with root and cwm recovery

i have the same problem , could it have anything to do with the fact that FB changed everybody's email address to a @facebook.com ?
I had same problem after putting ICS 8.3 , but i used .vcf on my sd card. I just copied contact.apk back on system/app and install it again. And now i have all my contacts back and running
I have the EXACT same problem with the EXACT same workaround on a stock Galaxy S3.
I've tried populating/not populating various contact fields with no luck thinking that it might be some type of corrupt data issue. Anyone know if this is a confirmed problem with Go Contacts Ex?

I too had this problem on a Galaxy S3. Every time I added or removed a contact in Go Contacts it broke the Google contact sync. I replaced Go Contacts with ContApps and the problem went away.

Just use Friendcaster and problem is solved...
Just found this thread via Google. I'm running CyanogenMod 9 on a Samsung Rugby Smart, but I think I found a work-around. I removed the default setting I had applied to Go Contacts, went into the regular contacts, and then went into Sync and manually synced my contacts. I think it worked, but verification would be great.
I have the exact same problem and my solution was to just stop using Go Contacts EX. I tried deleting my google account and readding it, only to find my newest contacts gone. I got tired of trying to figure out why it didn't work and decided I could go without Go Contacts EX. Not the best solution, but at least my contacts sync between my phone and google now.

I'm not sure is it spam or not - please let me know. I've created ad-supported free app that fixes what GO Contacts breaks. It's available in google play: Contacts Sync Fix.
Great App

Thanks Nixolay, your app works great! It scanned my contacts and found 2 issues. What exactly is the issue go contacts is making?
Same here
I have just realised today, after about 3 weeks, and after some testing, that Go Contacts Ex breaks my contact syncing for my Google account. Once broken the only way I found to fix it is to uninstall it, remove and then re-add my Gmail account. I like the product but backing up my contacts is more important.

This is an issue well known from go team as it has been reported many time.
I don't understand why they don't fix it.
Many users stop using this nice app just because of this issue

Hi all,
I have a very annoying bug going on with my stock messaging application. When I go back into my messages I see the date and time stamp but as I scroll up none of the messages have a date and time stamp. This is a big problem for me right now as clients sometimes message me and I have no dates to reference. My phone storage has been low on the phone but I have been keeping some space by clearing it out.
Regardless does anyone know what the cause could be here? I have some really old messages and they are showing no dates.

From my experience, when HTC messenger is broken, I uninstall any App updates and presto. Good as new.
Thanks for the reply, so the application has no updates that I see on play store. So you are saying you uninstall it, don't your messages disappear when you reinstall it? Don't know if the application is even on play store for reinstall.

If you're worried about the messages, use a back up service like Gcloud or similar, but backing up only the messages. But you can't uninstall it unless you you're rooted and yes it's In the play store. But you might want to abandon backing up messages all to together and just email the important ones to your PC.
Just uninstall the app updates already. Lol

Within your phone, not play store
I use both WhatsApp (WA) and WhatsApp Business (WAB), with two difefrent phone numbers (private and work).
On my Google Pixel and XIAOMI Mi11 I have Google Contacts and for each contact I can see options to call/video-call/chat with either WA or WAB.
On my Fold 3 for each contact I see options to call/video-call/chat ONLY with WA.
Any idea?

I never even knew that was an option until your question here, but mine also only shows WhatsApp and not WhatsApp Business. I only have ever gone into both apps to message people from them, not from the Contacts list on my phone.
Same, but I came from iOS, so using WhatsApp through the contacts app was never possible for me lol.
