[Q] s4 mini to hdtv

Hi
Does anyone know if it is possible to connect the s4 mini to hdtv by mhl→hdmi adapter in the same way that you can on the s4.
I have bought an adapter suitable for the s4 but doesn't seem to work with my hdtv via hdmi.
Someone please help?

Is it a hardware limitation, or something we can work around?

No official word on it. The latest kernel updates haven't brought any mhl or otg functionality to the phone.
Perhaps a developer could look into this!

4 months down the line - does anyone know any different to this?
Tried using my MHL to HDMI the other day and didn't work - was hoping there is some kind of work around by now?
Downloaded a few films from the Samsung Hub and was hoping to watch them on something a bit bigger than my phone! Tried the DLNA option but it didn't find my downloaded videos (only videos done with the camera). Guessing this is some kind of DRM restriction?

Actually there is a way but you should by an AllShare Dongle http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Wi-...id=1386596265&sr=8-2&keywords=AllShare+Note+3
The other way is to have a Samsung tv which support Screen Cast or Screen Share which will work with our phone.
I also prefer the MHL way but until now there is no info if this will ever work.

If you have a new Samsung TV which support Screen Share you are good to go also other devices which support Miracast should be also compatable you could see more about Miracast here:

[Q] Nexus 7 2013 as FULL Desktop Replacement

Hey guys,
a friend of mine is looking for a new notebook, but very happy with his (old) Nexus 7. I thought that it might be enough if he buys a bluetooth keyboard + mouse and Chromecast. Would this work to get a Full, on the TV Screen, desktop replacement? Or would it be smarter to get a new nexus 7 and use the MHL support to connect it with some screen + connect mouse and keyboard (via usb/bluetooth).
Anyways, is this even possible to connect a screen, a mouse and a keyboard at the same time on the new nexus/old nexus.

I believe chromcast works on wifi.
but Bluetooth will pair with only one device at a time. Keyboard or Mouse. Not both!
can use a wired keyboard with a bluetooth mouse though!

Bit if I use a wired keyboard and a bluetooth mouse I cant use the MHL for the screen support (nexus 2013 case) cause the slot is in use, or are there any adapters who support this?

I did a little research on "just one bluetooth device"....and its wrong. Lots of sources say that they can connect 2 bluetooth devices. Can anybody confirm this?

I am sure it can be done. However, you can also buy bluetooth keyboard with mouse pad in built that will serve dual purpose. I have a logitech keyboard with built in mouse pad, and it works.
If you use bluetooth keyboard and mouse with chromecast or miracast technologies, you will see a lag between when you perform an action and when it gets displayed on the screen. I guess the wireless display technologies have this limitation.
You can't use MHL with new Nexus 7 2013. the technology is not supported.
What you need is a Slimport adapter to connect the new Nexus 7 2013 to the TV. I have used my bluetooth keyboard with built in mouse pad while my device was connected to Slimport. It works. My bluetooth keyboard was lagging, but i guess that's a known bluetooth issue with the new nexus 7s.
Don't buy MHL for the new Nexus 7 devices. It wont work.

Thank you mate, this sounds promising. You said the keyboard kinda laggs. Is it anyoing, or can you live with that problem?

I primarily use the mouse so I didn't do a full regression with the keyboard. But i remember it was lagging substantially which was a bummer for me. I saw the bluetooth issue being discussed here somewhere. I will try to find that thread and see there was a fix.

Not that I know of. The slimport connects directly to the N7. The only port you have available after that is for charging, that too within the slimport adapter itself. I am not aware of a slimport and keyboard/mouse wired to the device.

Correct.
Not that I know of. The slimport connects directly to the N7. The only port you have available after that is for charging, that too within the slimport adapter itself. I am not aware of a slimport and keyboard/mouse wired to the device.

I'm a newbie on xda forum and i got some questions before i decided to buy new nexus 7. I got no experiences with Android 4.0 and above versions, so i need a few informations about nexus and android. I already read a few things on multiple forums, including xda. Similar as OP, i would like to replace my laptop with nexus 7.
1. I read nexus 7 owners had problems with USB OTG and there is some application needed for this thing to work. I also read there is the difference between rooted and unrooted tablet. What do i get with rooted tablet? Some guys on local forum told me i will loose warranty if i root tablet. Is this true?
2. Again about OTG, is it possible to download torrents (especially big files over 10 GB, like HD movies) directly on USB or even on external HDD?
3. I read nexus supports MHL, but i have to buy Slimport adapter and not MHL adapter to have a picture on monitor or TV. Is this true? Is it possible to have TV, keyboard and mouse (and maybe even USB) connected at same time? If yes, what would i need? USB hub or anything like that?
Can anybody help me with my questions please?

I busted out an old wireless mouse (USB dongle) and a bluetooth keyboard to see how well this would work, and it's surprisingly good. I've got a USB hub plugged in which recognizes flashdrives with StickMount. The only issue is that you won't be able to use the SlimPort and a flash drive/USB mouse at the same time.

root: Some of the more sophisticated apps you may want to use need root. I dont think you lose warenty since you can completely restore your tablet to factory settings if needed. But I am not sure about this. I just can say that the process of rooting is NO problem at all.
MHL: Some guy in THIS thread said that MHL is not supported. And he also said that with a slimport adapter you can use any screen as Nexus screen. Same for the keyboard question, I asked basically the same thing, just read the thread.
You can download torrents. Just make sure to get the 32GB version if you want to dowload big files. And you can also mount external usb devices like HDD. But again, if your MicroUSB (where to put the charger) is occupied by slimport adapter to get a picture on the screen, you wont be able to mount any other sub thing as far as explained in THIS thread.

Screen mirroring to projector via wifi hotspot and dongle?

Hey all here's what I'm going for...
Walk into conference room, start wifi hotspot on my phone and plug some type of dongle (chromecast/AllCast, etc..) into the back of the projector. Then I would connect my Note 10.1 2014 to the dongle and be able to mirror my screen to give presentations.
Has anyone tried this? Any creative solutions?

Miracast devices can do exactly this with wifi direct, so the hot spot isn't actually necessary to screen share. The only downside is that they are HDMI output, so projector compatibility is limited when dealing with older units.

Ah thank you! I looked into miracast and that is exactly what I was looking for. So the Note 2014 is miracast compatible?
Also, do you know of any cheap stick-like miracast dongles? I found this http://lettouch.com/rockchip-miracast-dlna-hdmi-dongle-for-android-ios-device-p-988.html.

You can also use MirrorOp. MirrorOp
I am using it at school for presentations. The sender software is on my Note 10.1 and the FREE receiver is on the PC which is connected to the OHP. The sender is only $10 and you can get it on the Play Store. Works over WiFi.
Note: Get the Galaxy version NOT the general android version as I have tried both and the Galaxy version works much better.

"Splashtop" send my PC screen to my android. I have been unable to find an app that sends my android screen to my PC. Can anyone help?
I'm trying to use my Note 8.0 for teaching.
Ideally I would like to walk around with my Note 8.0, take pictures of students work and annotate on them.
I would somehow have to transmit whats happening on my Note to a PC that is connected to the projector so the rest of the class is able to see. Please advice

You would have to connect this directly to the projector. If it does not have HDMI input you would need an adapter.
Another option might be to try and get SideSync working on your tablet: http://www.samsung.com/us/sidesync/
You will have to be on 4.4.2 and sideload the apk. I have found SideSync to be unreliable on both my Note 8 and S5 but others find it to work ok. Might be because Win 8.1 doesn't play as well with it as Win 7? Don't know.

I use a $20.00 Chinese dongle that is smaller and more portable. It is both DLNA, Airplay and Miracast compatible and has an adjustable antenna. I tested the latency on my dongle and is about 50ms on average, which is very fast. There are two backs. One is the limit of distance you can go from the dongle. Since this one has an antenna, the distance can be up to 3 meters, as it helps when placed in line of sight. The second is that it uses 5 volts, and the wee USB cable for power may need an extension from your computer. Since this dongle has its HDMI connector built in, no need for an HDMI cable to connect in between.
Once you set it up on your tv or projector, you can put it in your pocket and take it anywhere to be used and connect with any HDMI input device.
If your display has DB-15 connector, you will need a HDMI to Analog out converter. They are about the same size and cost of the Samsung Miracast unit. You can leave the dongle in the converter, but the stick will protrude a bit.

Good VNC Server
I've used one Android VNC server that really works with usable response times over WiFi and that's VMLite VNC Server. It supports multiple VNC clients on the PC (my favorite is WinVNC) and you can use it with or without root.
It's not an inexpensive app but is less than a hardware solution and one less thing to carry.

Thanks to all your suggestions. I have successfully use MirrorOP for sending android screen to PC. Would love to try out the miracast dongle once I get my hands on one.

Just a thought... I wonder how many Samsung note users use Chrome cast... It is so inferior and costly over a good Chinese DLNA / Miracast dongle. Its range is limited by the lack of external antenna as well.
Oh, I forgot... peeps running modded firmware have broken Miracast and other special Samsung functions. They should have gotten a Kindle Fire HDX or a Venue Pro 8.0 instead, if they don't like Samsung's robust feature set.

I might give MirrorOP a try to see how it compares to the Vmlite VNC server, even though it only has a 3.4 rating in the Play Store. It seems like it has a lot of proprietary pieces versus Vmlite's server using free VNC clients for almost any platform, including Android, so the features and performance would have to be a lot better for me to consider a switch. It also requires root for the Android sender, which is not a problem for me, but Vmlite VNC server does provide a method to operate without root.

Would you provide a link to the dongle you are using? I've looked at them on Aliexpress and eBay before but it's always good to know that someone has used a specific model successfully with a Note device.

How's the latency on this one? Heard some dongles can be as slow as 1 sec delay. I'm concern as I do not want my pen stroke to appear on screen 1 sec after I write.
Also, is the dongle able to use for a few hours without overheating and malfunctioning?

Mine is a year old and has been tested to stay below 60ms on delays. I Mirrorcast a lot with it, so side by side and the TV is a blink of eye faster but not like many I have seen gamers complain about.
I have played 2 movies back to back for 4 hours without heat and lockup issues. The device is worth the $17.00 or so I paid for it.
The only drawback is that it has no apps like Chromecast, but I got my Wii U to stream videos just fine if needed.
There are many more now with external antenna... there was a company that had a dual antenna version which is nice for lectures and large rooms. But I was not in need for such a device, plus it was 2x the price I was paying for mine.

How to enable Miracast and Alt mode on pixel 3a xl?

So im pretty pissed with google for removing the ability, cause i really love the desktop experience of the phone as a small laptop that i can carry anywhere with just an hdmi to usb-c and a wireless bluetooth keyboard.
I bought a cromecast (not the best buy of my life) ,and it not working for my needs.
-The sound only comes from the external screen.And it seem there is no easy way to make ur phone the sound output.
-cromecast 3 needs internet to work,that means if u dont have stable wifi you cannot use it at all,if u have a decent wifi connection its still has a hard time connecting,and it cripples other peoples wifi signal.
-I cannot use an hdmi to usb-c to cast my screen.And then have my bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Really bad move from google, but im asking here the community if they know about a mod to fix most of this stuff?Any help would be appriciated at this point.Is there a magisk mod or a .build way to fix the miracast and usb tethering ,in order for me to be able to use the cable?

I just replied to the thread above this one that there is a Magisk Module to enable Miracast for Pixel devices but I have not tried it. I only know of it because it's in magisk managers download section..

Hey that's my video!! Thanks for sharing it here. I just want to clarify that after testing the old Diamond USB 2.0 adapter (model# BVU195) that I used in the video I did discover that the video output got really jerky when there was a lot of full screen movement going on. I don't know if it's because it's the slow USB 2.0 connection or older DisplayLink graphics chipset. But I did end up buying a newer USB-C powered DisplayLink Certified ASUS MB169B+ Portable monitor and the video output was smooth at full screen on it.
