Wowwww. never thought I would say this for an iPhone. Always a loyal WinMo user and HTC user, recently changed to Android from WinMO. Now this iPhone 4 would be REALLY hard to resist ..... I am being converted ..

Hardware looks 'ok', but nothing that I would'nt expect from the latest phone on the market. Other than that, as said, as long as it's made by Apple, runs Apple's OS and is held down by the restrictions that follows, I'm never going to consider it over Android.

I personally think the box-like shape is terribly ugly. It looks like a portable hard drive.
Couldn't find anything terribly appealing in it.
Would pick up the open-Android over closed-iPhone any day!
Apple can suck the sweat from my balls! I will never buy an Apple product.
I dislike the level of arrogance they seem to have and the business practices they use. And the way Jobs tries to sell us old ideas and features, as new and "revolutionary" really grinds my gears.
That said, the new iphone looks like a sugary sweet device.

but anyway, the phone looks pretty awesome (326 ppi screen!!!)
video calling over wifi only sucks, but fring is already on the app store and im pretty sure they could add video like on the evo (if apple lets it! which they probably wont!)
flash isn't a huge issue for me because all the websites i use for video (like iplayer, tvcatchup.com) already work on the iphone.
the level of polish on the iphone software is also awesome, it's so fast and smooth, and the quality/number of apps on the app store blows the android market away.
will i be getting one? probably not, they're so darn expensive! and i'd miss the customisation you get with android.

Those results were just for the first quarter of this year. It means Android is starting to catch up, but crApple have sold way more in the past so still has a bigger user base.

Apple's market share is 3 times that of Android - and this is only in the US, Android isn't as popular elsewhere in the world.

I would say the only issue is the fact the iPhone is "Apple opereted". Nice piece of work but I don't like the "jail feeling" of this OS!

yeah i think that's the only reason why all of us are using android, we want to do what we want with our phones!
but i dont blame apple for doing it, i really don't think the iphone would be were it is today if apple let developers and users do whatever they want. with apple controlling everything you get a reliable, consistent smooth operation, which the average user loves. Average Joe doesn't care if apps have to be approved by apple - in fact the average apple users has no idea what goes on in terms of apps and restrictions - all they see is the end product.
the few that do either go android or jailbreak!
The iPhone always looked like a good idea to me on the face of things but I wouldn't get on because they're too expensive and the OS is too closed. There are some ways where the iPhone and the apple OS currently out does Android, susch as the apps, but on balance a Desire running Android is still the phone for me. I know lots of people who have an iPhone who will definitely get it, and if they're happy with the OS and the cost there's not really any reason not to.

I would personally wait for Nokia WP7, Thats when you'll see some good hardware / camera etc...
I bought mine two weeks ago. It is not perfect, i'll not lie. But it is the OS that I like most (I have iPhone 4 and Droid too). Android is laggy, even with overclock, and it feels.. like a beta. Worse, Alfa version. Everything is smooth and pretty in WP7.
I was willing to wait for Nokia devices, but i read that Nokia will only release one phone this year. And seriously, I don't trust Nokia. I don't want to buy Nokia's test phone, and I don't want to wait until next year.
Just buy it already, and join us

For 3 iterations, I've always said android feels incomplete. Even on the tablet side, android feels very incomplete and I guess this has made OEMs feel like they can do what they will to cover android's shortcomings - specifically in their management of OS, fragmentation, and acceleration.
The iphone felt finished to me - even if I didn't like the iphone platform at all. Everything just worked and ran quite effectively. It was cohesive and central when it was released.
What I enjoy about windows phone is that it carries the cohesion of apple, and totally ramps it up full blast making it an incredible platform to code on, experience, and use on a daily basis.
I do miss flashing custom roms for one reason - I HAVE A DELL VENUE PRO and so far its one of the most closed wp7 devices on the market! Period! But even then, the only thing I want is root access to the registry. Not so much optimize much because the os is damn good as is.
Are there limits to windows phone 7? Sure all platforms have limits. But I think in time windows phone will definitely be a household name. All it really needs is good advertising at this point.
My biggest issue with WP7 right now is not the missing featurs, but rather the lack of quality hardware. That having been said, the Samsung Focus is very nice. It takes amazing pictures. The screen is big and beautiful. It is sleek, and has long battery life. My only complaint is how slick the plastic is. Would have been nice to have a more rubbery texture to it or something.
Like every OS WP7 has its cons and pro's but to me it's just the experience as a whole that stands out to the rest. I'd certainly recommend a WP7 device to everyone who wants to buy a smartphone. Certainly the one's who owned an Android device before like myself.
I'm happy with my Trophy. I love the hardware. Have a nice grip, and an awesome screen. Not too large, nor too small. It's just the perfect size to me.
The plastic doesn't feel cheap, and doesnt look cheap. I recommend. And it is worth a look.
Thanks for feedback ... I use the following apps remote desktop, facebook,Twitter,slingplayer,navigation and need a good quality camera .... I'm looking at the apps market to see if I can find any apps like this..... I was disappointed to see no flash for browser....

LG Quantum == great hardware
I love my LG Quantum.
I need a keyboard for business emails. I sometimes write mails on it longer than I do at my desktop computer. Try that on the on-screen keyboard.
But, if I just have a few words, the on-screen is fine. And the word-correct is amazing on WP7.
Friends at work have Samsung Focus and love it. Most people DON'T need over 8GB of flash, because with ZunePass, one can stream what one doesn't have, and then just download what they want to keep.
WP7 really is GREAT STUFF, and getting better with time.

this is a really silly question, ppl who like android will tell you no and ppl who like wp7 will ask you to move....
this is really very personal... its like you asking ppl what car should i buy
you should buy if you like wp7 not because ppl think u should buy...
best thing you can do is go play with different devices in the store and see which one you like better.
WP7= fast and smooth, works out of the box great.
Android= very versatile, but does have some lag and might require some tweaking to get the best out of the device.
Just depends on what you are looking for.

+1 on this. I read an article in another post and it has me holding off a WP7 purchase for now. 5-reinstal limit on paid apps! Hell no! It aint worth it if that's how it's gonna be. At least being a smartphone it will have all the common features on phones these days, but the 5-limit will kill it for me.

I don't think its a silly question... so far people that have had both have given me pros and cons those who have moved to wp7 have shared what they miss .... I am asking for owners experience of the phone... not if they like the color of the device...

No offense dude but until I see oficial word from microsoft that it aint true, I'm gonna hold back.
Well for me - yes and no.
If you don't care so much about features than WP7 is in many ways great.
But for me after 3 months of extensive usage - I start to have enough of stupid limitations. In March we will get only c&p and no other functionality enhancements.
I like how this WP7 behaves but it's totally unfinished product.
I rather accept a little choppiness but have all the features than use super fluent skeleton.
BTW this WP7 super fluent behaviour is a little myth. I see little freezes all the time.
More I think of it I see myself getting Android device soon. I don't care if it is "choppy", what is kinda BS TBH. I saw many current strong Androids which are smooth.
And they have oh so much more to offer right now. Sad but true.
I can't even buy apps and nobody knows WHEN this will be possible. And so on.
It will take a year or more to bring WP7 to desired state and I think some of the very useful features will not be supported ever.
Sorry for the rant but after the joy of using something nice has worn off, I just more and more miss features which are cruical for me and it's more than one thing.
I imagine getting SE Arc....
But I still didn't "give up". WP7 is still a great foundation.

If you've been using Android especially with Sense I don't see how you could ever switch to WP7. I have an HTC Incredible and I bought an HTC Surround to play around with a week ago. The Surround has already been sold. After using Android for years WP7 seems like a joke right now. It is almost closer to a feature phone than a smartphone. I was going to keep it just to use as a Zune and for the Xbox Live features. My original Zune 30GB is 5 times the music player a WP7 phone is. The Xbox live stuff...I'm playing a game, let me switch to something else for a second...Go back to the game, wait loading? Oh yeah, no multitasking.
Maybe if you were coming from a feature phone WP7 might seem nice, but it is far behind Blackberry, Android, and iOS. Even my Samsung Blackjack with WM 6.1 was far more usable. It sucks because I am a Microsoft fanboy. I love my Xbox, my Zune, Windows 7, etc. But WP7 is pretty bad I thought.
Is it possible to get rid of WM7 and install Android on HTC surround?
Yes, take it back/sell it and buy an android phone.

As long as there is a good variety of apps available then its no problem.

You would really be better off just going with an android phone to start with because buying a surround then hoping for a port is just going to give you months, if not more of frustration. Is that worth saving a bit of money for? Buy android, it has flash, lots of apps, several form factors, no need to by a wp7 device then do without the features you want.

All trolling aside. Android has a large selection of quality devices that you will be able to find off contract for a reasonable price - with some patience spent looking on ebay. If you want Android, buy a phone that was built from the ground up for Android.

I know some are trolling , Android has more free apps , just buying it for the speaker , but isnt there any possibility to install android on it ? like dualboot?
Why not just buy an phone with Android? Ported ROMs usually have tons of problems.

I can't imagine because I don't believe the surround is very popular hardware. Since those mods are usually pretty hardware specific, those types of mods are usually only made for more popular devices.

no there's not as we've clearly stated. You would have to have access to the bootloader which only one person has done by accident and it bricked their device. You would then have to pretty much rebuild the entire phone from the ground up code-wise. It is possible given months, maybe years but no one is going to spend 1/10th that time on such a terrible phone. The os is the only redeeming quality about that device. We are not trolling, you came to the wp7 forums and asked about putting Android on your device. We informed you it could not be done and told you our opinions of the idea... Sounds like a thread to me... You're just hunting for a yes where there's none to be had.

at this point in time no. That is not Microsoft fault. That is Adobe.

Adobe s not created a version of flash for wp7 a new version has to be created for each os that it works on. Not that it will really matter after html 5 but Microsoft has nothing to do with building the program.
even before WP7 was released, both MS and Adobe said jointly that they were committed to bringing flash to windows phone. I believe the hold up is in agreeing to an implementation that would satisfy both companies (for MS, it's implementing it without a compromise to speed or security, and for Adobe it's being feature rich and fully functional).
Go buy a Android or a iPhone.
Okay, so, when windows phone 7 was new I was the biggest android fanboy out there. I would not give anything else a second glance. I went in the t-mobile store to get my wife a vibrant 4g and she was interested in the HD7, I pushed her away from what I, at the time, thought was rubbish software on even lesser hardware. I looked at it for a few seconds, made a mockery of the fact that there was no ability to change background images, and she got the vibrant4g. Now, I own way to many phones for one person as Craigslist fishing for phones is somewhat a hobby of mine and one day I found a guy who wanted to trade any pair of the same model smartphone for his HD7. I had a pair of NIB behold 2s that someone had given me for 150 dollars so i offered and he accepted. Prior to this I was using daily a vibrant 4g and a mytouch 4g for work and personal lines. I decided to try out wp7, just give it one day and if not, hey, i could sell it for a profit. I went into the arrangement biased and completely pro-android. I was begging for something to hate. I used it for a few hours, purchased one game (need for speed), and set up my Netflix and such. As much as I wanted to hate it, I couldn't. The out of the box experience was better than anything I could ever set up on android. The social integration, even in It's early stages, was remarkable. The UI was fluid which, while it never bothered me when I was a fandroid, has made it impossible for me to have a pleasant experience with android since. Within 2 days I'd placed an order for a dell venue pro, windows phone just wowed me. About 2 weeks later i found another epic deal on Craigslist and got a dell streak for 140 dollars and android, regardless of root, version, under locking, rom, etc was just too slow for me now.
Today, I still have the latest android hardware for development purposes, I have a galaxy S2 in a junk drawer, but windows phone has shown me what a user experience should be.

It is flame bait in my opinion. But hey only an "imbecile" would try to argue an opinion and acknowledge himself to be in possession of the "right opinion".
I have to say though that WP7 did excite me at first both at announcement and during testing, and it still appeals to me now. But I eventually thought about what I usually used my phone for and came to the realization that android would better suit my needs than WP7.
I loaded wp7 on my hd2, and the only reason I took it off was because of the HD2 power button killing the touchscreen and seeing as how that is the only way to wake the HD2 from sleep WP7 had to go. But I agree that wp7 is a great user experience, and as soon as the hardware is there that supports. video calling I'll probably be getting a native wp7 handset. That and a good navigation app or bing navigation like I had on my HD2 with wm6.5. I still like the fact that I can swap sd cards on my android, but I can probably live with that limitation with wp7, after all, millions of iphone users have.
I run andorid but I do love the minimalist style of wp7. It seems fluid and the system font that they use, segoe UI is gorgeous.
I'm still an android fanboy, and I've been getting my fix of windows phone 7 by using Ubermusic or Zplayer

What's a good WP7 phone that's out right now that is considered higher end? I'm actually looking to get one for they wifey, she likes the way it looks apparently.

The HTC titan is the best out I think, with a 2nd gen snapdragon clocking at 1.5ghz. But it is 4.7" so your lady might be overwhelmed. The HTC radar would be a better bet with its 3.8" screen with the same 2nd gen snapdragon but clocking at 1ghz instead.
Your situation sounds exactly like mine going into trying WP7. Except after using my HD7 I missed everything about Android. WP7 was completely usable and very smooth but just so bloody boring. ZunePass was the only streaming music available and Rhapsody for Android blows the doors off that for cheaper. I use wifi tether, I like voice navigation, I like live wallpapers, I like widgets and customizable icons, I like the app selection of the Market, I like decent battery life, I like one click access to certain areas of my settings, I like the ability to change launchers or ROMs when I need to change something up. I like the window animations and the CRT effect, I like google docs and the ability to choose a browser that looks and functions the way I want it. I could go on... Look guy, WP7 is nice and perfect for people upgrading from a basic phone into the smart phone world. I would sell so many WP7 devices if my store carried them because of all the old people trying to keep up with the times on smart phones that are easy to use and learn on. But, it's just not Android caliber. The only redeeming quality is the kick ass hardware some WP7 phones have.

Trolling is starting the same thread every couple days in an Android dominated forum... I have only used one WP7 device and the battery was worse than any Android I've ever owned. That's just my experience.
Not being Android caliber is not an opinion. Look at the market share. WP7 has all the advantages that Android has in regard to carrier and hardware choice, yet it hadn't scratched the surface or shown the growth potential. You are just calling the kettle black, Mr. Pot.
And to say WP7 is better because it doesn't have the shortcomings Android has since Android has miles more features is like saying prison is better since it doesn't have all the shortcomings freedom has. Enjoy prison, kid.

Actually, it's more like stating that the life of a wealthy shut-in is as enjoyable as that of a poor free man as it's largely a matter of quality.
Windows phone ha# been out one year right about this time. Android was pretty much non-existent after their first year. Give it time, windows came a lot further in their first year than any other OS.
Your "android-caliber" argument has nothing to do with quality. Considering that anything can run android it'd be comical if they weren't number one, especially considering most carriers charge at least 9.99 for a basic flip phone while giving out android phones free with a contract.
I'll gladly give it time. More old people will buy them and they will grow to like 15% of the market. The problem is, while WP7 looks different, there is already a dumb smartphone OS on the market, iOS. WP7 can only hope to compete with them as they are the only other ones pandering to the lowest common denominator. Dumb people return Android devices to me all the time saying it's too complicated and they want an iPhone. In a year I'll see a few of those people returning Androids to get a WP7 device instead because (hopefully) Microsoft will spend a few bucks in marketing.

The problem is, while WP7 looks different, there is already a dumb smartphone OS on the market, iOS. WP7 can only hope to compete with them as they are the only other ones pandering to the lowest common denominator. Dumb people return Android devices to me all the time saying it's too complicated and they want an iPhone. In a year I'll see a few of those people returning Androids to get a WP7 device instead because (hopefully) Microsoft will spend a few bucks in marketing.

This is exactly why WM7 will never succeed. People who need that type of phone will always go for the secure and safe bet, one they already know about, the iPhone.
I was hoping MS would recognize what they needed to do to help WM7, but they seem to refuse to.
How many tech-minded people do you think there are? People dont buy more iPhones because they're not available everywhere and to everyone, not because they can't root them. A small number of people dont buy them because the larger screen appeals more to them which is something wp7 can offer. People don't by android for it's quality. They buy it for it's availability. That was made abundantly clear when I went from working for att to working for t-mobile.

And the slight resemblance to an iOS UI with icons and such which gives them a sort of familiarity.

iPhone is available on Verizon and AT&T, the combined number of subscribers which completely dwarf all the other carriers. Millions of users are even using them on T-Mobile. The iPhone is available to whoever honestly wants it. A lot people buy Android because everyone carries and because the platform is easy, works well and is popular.

Its not AS easy, doesn't work AS well, and isn't AS popular as iOS (despite market share a poll that I dont feel like digging up from my phone showed that a pretty hefty number of people thought that when they bought an HTC phone they were getting HTC OS, same with Samsung and other carriers.) I'd like to see a poll showing how many people who have android actually even know that they're using android. They would know, however if they were using iOS so there's popularity out the window. At&t and Verizon are two of the toughest carriers to get on. When I was 17 and had no credit established ATT and Verizon both expected several-hundred dollar deposits on top of the price of the phone where Alltel, t-mobile, and sprint were more than happy to get me going. I picked T-mobile for the sim slot of course. Buying an iPhone outright to work on any of these carriers is a hefty price to pay, one the general consensus can't afford for a phone so there's that. As far as easy goes, it's the toughest platform to use out of the box hands down.
Well my argument might be invalid in some aspects, but judging from the fact that in my country the OS population here is BBOS and a minority with iOS, and when i show my phone to someone they can tell that it is an android phone, I think that speaks to the popularity, especially considering the fact that I live in a third world/"developing country".
I dont think that invalidates your point at all, though I feel as though, while younger and more adept people know these things, your average user, at least stateside, is at a loss if they're using android. Like I said, when i worked for both att and t-mobile a pretty hefty portion of the clientel would tell me that they didn't know what their OS was or that it was HTC, Samsung, etc. With ios and such the uniformity keeps it clear.
You're makeing one major mistake though Zee, not everyone has trouble getting to grips with Android like you have, if they did it wouldn't have such a large global market share. Try as you might, you can't argue against that with any validity.

I always had android phones (galaxy's, notes & nexuses) but it always seemed like the iOS ecosystem was better, software wise.
From the outside it seems that they are getting better apps, faster updates (even to big apps) and of course they have the iMessage that all of my friends from the US uses and is a huge part of why I want to swich. (I'm from europe).
What do you guys think? Should I jump ship once and see how it is?

Do you really think on a board like XDA, in the Pixel XL forum you are going to get everybody telling you how great iPhone is?

Truly. This is an android enthusiast forum. If you want an iphone, go get one. Don't expect that recommendation from anyone here, though.
I think that there could be good points for both sides. it's no different then pixel vs any other flagship.
Yeah, no, it's very different. IOS vs Android, not Android vs Android. This being an android specific forum, you're not likely to find much in the way of love for the iphone 7 here.
I think it is always weird to have iOS vs android discussions in a specific phone's forum. That seems like a more general topic better discussed elsewhere.

I know and understand your frustrations with Android. I've been an avid android fan since the OG Droid came out. What a phone and I loved it. Pure simple and open Motorola did a great job with that phone. Fragmentation ruined that phone and most every android phone since. The thing I hated apple for was the reason andtroid was so frustrating. To this day I get sick of looking at my wifes Iphone, it looks almost exactly the same as the original Iphone, if she puts wallpaper or a photo on her phone its just covered up by the icons that apple stick there and thats annoying to me anyway. Customizing your Iphone without jailbreaking lol... even the name lets you know how they feel about messing with their phone. Let's see Android is rooting Apple is jailbreaking even in a simple adjective they let you know don't touch fall in line with everyone and like it! I really domn't like the concept of Apple sorry, it's my phone I paid for it I should be able to do whatever I want as long as I'm not intruding on the rights of others and I'm sorry I do't see how customizing my phone would bother anyone. What they did and still do have right is they control the quality of the products in their app store and Andropid has dropped the ball on that one since the beginning. looking back they were trying for numbers not quality to compete and it has cost them. The quality of apps on the iphone is better and in saying that Android is catching up. These are basically the same apps written for different platforms. Ive seen it with my wifes phone for years I get so many more force closings amnd associated other problems than she does and I can hear her frustrations when using my phone. Like I said Android has been getting better and it's a heck of alot easier writing programs for one platform and one manufacturer. This is Androids problem each manufacturer has made alterations to Android AKA skins along with constant updates its tough on developers. The whole reason for Nexus was to give the developers a heads up and a chance to work with a pure version of android. I always loved the Nexus program and found that I personally had much fewer problems than my friends that had HTC, Samsung LG etc..... These manufacturers were never held accountable for upgrading on a timely fashion and neither were the providers aka verizon AT&T etc... this is why we are in the mess we are. I think and hope google has finally said enough! They have designed and engineered a top of the line flagship, one that is not outdated before the first box arrives. This phone is one people should be proud of it's fast and smooth its as close to pure android as possible oh I know Verizon put a few apps on it but they can be removed and give mne a break that's no big deal. It's a top quality phone that can stand up to the Iphone. Believe me if you know anyone that has drank the KoolAide and my wife has it certainly isn't going to change their minds and expecting that is not realistic. Google has given the developers a phone and a platform to work with and lets see how much of a difference this makes. I for one am hoping it makes as big a difference as Google thinks it will. I think incorporating with VR and home is swinging for the fences and I hope it's a home run.

I used an iPhone a number of years ago, jail broke it used Cydia the whole nine yards, once I started using Android devices I have NEVER looked back. In my position I get to try out different phones and some of the people at my company use iPhones. I have taken them home for weekend test drives just to see if I'm missing anything and after a day or so I find myself putting the SIM back in my current android device. I can't speak for you or what may be most important to you but for me I would not go back to ios.
yeah apple do a good job with software/hardware integration, but then it's to be expected with a heavily locked down device, it's the same reason they get updates first they are simpler to make stuff for.
but for me I've just always found Android way more flexible and I would rather have that flexibility. end of the day it all comes down to personal choice.
