GSI on the Lenovo P2 - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Greetings, I have flashed a GSI several months ago, but I can't seem to flash any GSI anymore. Every time I flash a GSI it gets stuck at the Lenovo logo upon rebooting. I have tried using official and unofficial TWRPs, official LOS 16 (treble), official AOSPExtended (also treble), but none of them worked. I have also used different guides: Flashed patches, wiped internal storage, formatted data, etc. but it still ends up getting stuck at the logo every time I boot.

I am wondering why you would install a GSI when specific ROMs are available for P2. However, you may be installing A/B GSI for P2 rather than A only GSI.

I've only used A only GSIs, but I've also tried A/B. I only do it for fun. I want to try out other ROMs that don't support the phone.

I guess, your fun with GSIs is over now

GSI Pie Roms

Wanted to know which GSI Pie roms work with Razer phone.
Roms boot but no Wifi or data:
OOS
RR
Viper
AOSP Extended.
The roms that don't boot:
Beast rom
Syberia
MIUI
Xperia
Liquid Remix.
The roms that are working:
AOSIP
Bliss Rom
Havoc (can't use because of NFC bug)
LOS 16 (by Andy Yan) (this rom has root enabled if you flash LOS SU)
Arrow OS
Pixel Dust
Descendant (selfie cam does not work)
AOSP 9.0 (By Phh-Treble) (selfie cam does not work)
Omni Rom
Bootleggers
H2OS (No fingerprint or Google but everything seems okay).
That's weird, I just tried out my first GSI Pie last night in the form of latest arrows OS. Took a while but it's working, only thing is data works absolutely fine but still no Wi-Fi. I was following @HO-COOH 's instructions on post 4 in his thread about fixing the Wi-Fi but its still not working.
Interesting how some people have Wi-Fi working and others don't.
I have Pixel Dust on mine and it's working perfectly, WiFi included. Only issue I've found is being unable to make calls via bluetooth, and I remember seeing a thread on how to fix it. Anyways, WiFi should work just fine as long as you don't install Magisk on your phone (you can still use SU root)
Right, need to really sort this out. Ditched arrows OS and installed pixel experience on slot B and it's working great, Wi-FI, 4G - all good. However, no matter what GSI I install on slot A, I never get working Wi-Fi. Tried PHH-SU, Havoc, Resurrection, Pixel Dust - No good for any Wi-Fi at all.
What is very interesting is if I install Pixel Experience on Slot A, I lose Wi-Fi again... but it works on Slot B?!? How is this possible?
I'm a bit hesitant to flash any more GSI's to Slot B just to try it for fear of losing Wi-Fi. Any ideas?

Did you clean flash? I tried Arrow OS too, and it works all fine. My post has some redundant procedures I am planing to edit it as soon as razer phone has official 9.0.
I mean if you didn't flash anything that modified /boot(like Magisk or prepatched boot image) you should be all fine.

I flashed the pre patched boot image as per your instructions. I then followed the rest of your instructions for A/B flashing and for fixing WiFi.
Here's the thing, any GSI I flash to Slot B works 100%. If I flash the same GSI to Slot A then WiFi doesn't work on that slot.
I'm happy to just use slot B for now, just need to find a GSI that allows my banking app to work as it thinks I'm rooted. (I've not rooted it).

With my experience with flashing GSI on Razer. I think only one slot can be used for WIFI and Data not both. So if you have set the Wifi and Data on one slot the other slot won't work.

I've been trying to do this all day. I cannot get any of the gsi to boot. Or if I do I lose twrp so I can't flash gapps. I just want a usable 9.0 gsi on this phone. I've tried these guides on here and I'm losing it. Can anyone share their process with me please.

AB since Razer phone 1 uses AB partitions.
Gapps is Gapps included with GSI.

Has anyone tried a treble ROM on the Tab s4?

There are unfortunately no ROMs specifically for this device yet, but has anyone tried to use a generic treble ROM on this device?
Thanks in advance
I have tried several treble ROMs, the majority don't even boot. Lineage os worked but was buggy. The more stable one was Havoc, if I remember correctly.
I was interested in the Q developer ROM but it didn't work. I'm back to the stock pie Rom, since there is no Netflix HD support on those treble roms.

Hi Mate, I've been trying to flash a working GSI rom but had no success so far(have an SM-T830). In the past have built ROMs for Tab A 10.1 and flashed them many times with TWRP and Odin so I just cannot understand am I retarded to not being able to flash a working one or what? Have managed to put TWRP 3.3.0.0 and TWRP 3.3.0.1 on the device. Have tried my own arm64_aonly image first. Then an original AOSP one, then a Lineage OS version, at the moment I am just downloading Havoc. The result (apart from the havoc) was always the same. The flashing went through successfully and when I rebooted into system the very fist image came up and boot looped from there. I am always able to go back to TWRP and try another image or through odin can restore the factory image but none of the GSI images seem to be working. So, here is my question. As you managed to get a Lineage and Havoc working, can you tell by looking at it what am I doing wrong please:
1.: OEM unlock
2.: TWRP install with odin
3.: Boot straight into TWRP to prevent being overwritten
4.: TWRP: format data
5.: Flash system image (arm64_aonly)
From here have tried so many things like,
- booting straight into system
- booting back to recovery
- flashing the force_decryptor or how the hell is that called
- formatted data again as the decryptor suggests
The result was always the same, boot looped from the very first image. It seems like that the image is not getting flashed and even if TWRP says was flashed right it is just not there. I'm literaly pulling my hair as it was so easy and straight forward with the Tab A 10.1, but with this ….. thanks for your answer in advance
anyone have any luck with treble GSIs? i can only get arrowos to boot and even then i cant install gapps.

I used AOSP 9.0 and LineageOS 16 with OpenGApps Pico and both work but are very buggy.
After hours of trying to figure this out myself i ended up finding two ROMs that work for me. I was running stock Android 9 with september's security updates when testing these out:
Roms that i tried, that did NOT work:
BlissOS
ArrowOS
Lineage16
The ROMs that DID work for me were:
phunsson's Treble Experimentations
microG ufOfficial
The only 2 bugs that i've seen so far have been a small graphical glitch of quickettings not staying within the bounds of the pulldown and MTP not working at all. These are both present in both ROMs (The microg ROM uses phhusson's rom as the base). Neither of these bother me all that and i'm very happy to be able to move to microg and not have all the google/samsung bloat hogging my tablet and constantly trying to ping their motherships.
Here's a great list of Generic System Image (GSI) ROMs that you can click scroll through and try downloading and flashing to your device to see if you have any luck.
My process of installing phunsson's GSI ROM:
Reboot to TWRP,
Do a factory reset (Wipe > "Swipe to Do Factory Reset")
Install Image
Reboot
Took about a minute and a half displaying the bootanimation before it got to the home screen for the first time. If it's loading for more than 5 minutes then that ROM definitely isn't going to work with your device.
Hope this helps someone out there trying to get away from their bloated Samsung One UI.

Did AOSP 10.0 work for you? I haven't been able to get it to boot. Strangely AOSP 9 and LOS 16 are the only ones I've had luck with.
@last1youlove whoa! You got LOS to work? What kind of magician are you? That one never booted for me. The only ROM I got working was ArrowOS and it has a few bugs. I really want to get HavocOS to work but it's a no-go!

I have not. I just really wanted an AOSP based ROM and i had gotten to the point where i had reflashed the stock firmware 3 times through ODIN because I messed up 1 thing or another. So once i got a functional ROM that worked great I just decided to stick to it. Also I don't think Android 10 has Xposed support yet, and i need that in order to enable Signature Spoofing for MicroG's FakeStore.

Having trouble flashing custom ROM

Hi everyone
I have tried flashing a custom ROM. TWRP3.3.1 is installed and therefore bootloader unlocked. I tried flashing resurrection remix as per this guide:
1)Full wipe (system,data,vendor, dalvik,cache,internal storage) + format data.
2)Flash No-verity-opt patch + xiaomu.eu developer on Oreo or xiaomi.eu 10.2.1 Stable
3)Factory reset
4)Reboot to recovery
5)Flash Resurrected Kernel v3.3
6)Flash POST-sGSI_3_v0.6 .zip
7)Flash RR System.img
8)Flash Magisk 18.0 (if you get an error that /vendor can't be mounted then just reboot recovery and flash Magisk again)
9)Reboot to system
10)Setup system
11)Reboot to recovery
12)Flash BiTGApps or OpenGapps + Magisk 18.0
13)Reboot to system
Although I used Kernel 5.1 PIE
Before this attempt I tried Havoc and I tried lineage and it's always the same... flashing the system.img takes only seconds and declares success. Then the boot screen of the respective ROM stays forever.
I just flashed xiaomi.eu ROM 10.2.1 and that boots fine.
What am I missing here?
Thanks!
Also I don't seem to have anti rollback protection enabled (or I guess I would have bricked the phone anyway by now):
getvar:anti FAILED (remote: GetVar Variable Not found)
Looks like nobody has this phone seeing as there is no official custom ROM development... interesting considering the thread about the 6GB version has 13k views....

Custom Rom development seems to have started very recently after the statement of XIAOMI that there will not be a MAX 4 this year.
But from what I've seen so far, most people are on some kind of MIUI Custom Rom and only a few went the route of trying a more AOSP like Custom Rom.
Regarding your statement that you don's seem to have Anti Rollback Protection, I am 100% sure this is wrong. I've seen threads about that topic that asked why they can't get the ARP value anymore with the method you used and if I recall correctly there was a different way of doing it.
Cheers
I just managed to solve my issues.
I installed the patched TWRP for Nitrogen https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-1-nitrogen-t3866084
Interestingly enough, installing a custom ROM image still only takes about ten seconds or so. But now the stuff actually boots.
The Xiaomi.eu ROM that Tradingshenzhen packaged in their tutorial does not have ARB yet. I believe the latest ROMs do.
Look inside your ROM for antiroll the same say to me not found but the beta stock ROM have the 4. This is stopping me to do anything on this phone. Never buy xiaomi again. They add this stupid antiroll they stop betas they make always year after year the phones cheaper.. I mean they remove custom led rgb only white then they make it so small you can't see it. To have the phones cheap they go down on quality

Treble support on the Google Pixel XL

I was thinking about purchasing a Google Pixel XL due to the reasonable specs and good rom support. But I was just wondering if the device was treble supported before I decided to buy anything as it would help me out quite a bit. Also I am quite the enthusiast when it comes to custom roms and stuff.
If anyone has an answer i will be very grateful.
Thanks.

Check attached photo. I have been playing with one of these for a bit. I loaded up TWRP followed with the latest Resurrection Remix and the phone is so fun to use.

How did you flash it? I've been trying to flash phh and lineage but it won't boot at all. Tried in both TWRP and fastboot.
Sorry i was not clear about my message. I'm not using any GSI images. I am using https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/development/unofficial-resurrectionremix-8-5-8-t4149771
I used to flash a lot of GSI's on another model and often i would need patches, custom kernel and some needed a clean flash of one first to get what i wanted after. I really like this ROM, but i have no problems going to stock if i screw up, which i will. So i'll go see if i can get a gsi on top of Rrmix. I'll be back.
I tried a couple gsi's and twrp gives a partition size error. (Too small).. What methods other than factory resetting and trying to install have you tried?
Pretty sure the version of TWRP used is specific. I tried RR with 3.4 and it was a mess. Now i'm using 3.2.3.1 and things are not perfect, but close enough for me.

TWRP 3.4.0.0 is only good because it brings decryption support - there's also a fork of 3.3.0.0 by NZedPred on the regular Pixel forum (but the port is built for the XL too) which brings the best of both worlds, 3.4.0.0 decryption and 3.2.3.1 stability.
The small system partition is a known problem with our Pixels, there are repartitioning scripts ... but here be dragons.

[SOLVED]GSI A-only 19GB system

Today I was working with an XT1792, (yes too old) and it has 32GB while the roms are 3GB at most, but when enabling treble via LineageOS 16 treble and flashing a GSI PIE, it occupied an unbelievable 19GB, AospEX and AOSiP Pie. This is normal? what did i do wrong? the problem is in the fact that you have flashed A-Only?
When I was writing this I decided to go back to twrp and format data and it was back to normal.
After installing and restarting, I deleted the data through the settings to later configure and test the phone, I thought that formatting data was no longer necessary, but I will post and leave it here because if a newbie like me is faced with a similar question, there is where to find another answer among many here....thanks to everyone working on GSI and custom Roms, especially AOSP devs.
