My storage says the system is using 10 gb. It persists after hard resets, etc. This seems a bit high, does it not? I'm on stock P, June security update.
Actually, that sounds about right. Nothing to worry about, other than reduced storage space.

Maybe the reason for the large system storage is this phone had two separate slots (active and inactive). I'm coming from a Nexus 6p so this is my first phone that has this set up.

Here is an explanation.....
Reading a bit more it says there's only a slight difference in storage space between a system with only the A partition and a system with the A/B partition. So I guess that's not an explanation for the large system storage.

I think he's talking about the RAM. Android manages memory different than OS X or Windows. Full is actually good. People are always going overboard with task killers trying to free up RAM. Android will free up RAM as necessary, so you really shouldn't ever have to worry about it. Unlike Windows when it gets full it puts memory into swap on the HDD slowing it down. Android will just quit the app, because you haven't used it in a while.
Just for reference I have 246MB available on CM7 with a fresh boot. After using it a few hours, I generally have about 90MB free on average.
SO I s-offed with Rumrunner today and did a TWRP backup. Now I didn't notice before, but now my storage is showing 17.96 GB Used. Apps are 1.15GB, Music 15mb, Photos 15mb, downloads 8.78mb, with Other being 16.77GB. My backup is only 2GB, is other the OS?? I am still stock rooted.

Check your entire SD card with a file manager. You've got something big on there.

What ROM are you running? It could be space used up by stock system stuff. OP is stock and I'm running Bonestock, which is essentially stock.

I Think I see an issue. on my system folder I have two files in the storage folder named "Emulated" and "sdcard0" . They have the same thing in each one, about 3.40GB. Is this a normal file format for android?
From what I've gathered it's not actually there twice, it's just a reflection, so to speak, of your user data. It's a feature implemented for muti-user setups.

Already posted a thread about this........
The HTC One is formatted different than a typical external sd card (FAT). Because it is formatted differently, USB mass storage does not show up on our computers. Use adb to push files. Check your storage space on the phone.
I have 10.08GB used in other with no backups. Just the way the phone came.
Thanks Guy's, just wanted to be sure it wasn't something I did while running Rumrunner or doing my first recovery.

at one point my other storage was gigantic as well. It was at the point where I didn't have enough room to backup in recovery.
after I uninstalled play music and magazines my other storage dropped to below 10GB and gave me 17 GB free.
lol I can't believe I didn't realize this phone came with no microsd slot. Not being able to put all my media on one is bumming me out.
Its still a great phone but now I'm missing my thunderbolt a little bit.

This is def a bug, and I might have a fix... Here's how I came to this...
On soff day one I soffed, immediately I installed cwm recovery, and first thing I did was do a backup... Restarted my phone, and immediately got the less than 10 GB left...right after that I wiped and i installed mokee, and still had storage issues... Then I deleted the factory backup and did a nother fresh backup from recovery... Poof all my space is back... Check the size of your factory backup, bet its huge... Take it off your phone and stash it on your PC if you wanna save it...
This is where backups are stored

I also was disapointet when i mentioned that there are only 3GB App-space on the N7.
But CM11 is on the way and this will fix the problem (unified storage).
Also an Oppo-Staff said there would be a solution for an future firmware release from oppo.

CM11 won't change the partition setup.
There's a potential LVM trick I'm looking into for omni but it's going to take a while as I need to finish the basics on omni first (like audio)

I think that the best you can hope for is to have the 10GB of internal storage plus the SD card, basically a "13GB" phone with a microsd slot.

Thas what i had hoped for, great News for me an all other guys who want to install a larger amount of apps oh their device.
thx.
Quick question.
How do I find out how much storage is being taken up by my apps? I just want to make sure 3 gb won't be an issue before I order the phone. I don't really have any games installed so don't think it will be an issue.

Are there any news on this topic?
That 3 GB limit for App data is really annoying I don't really care about ColorOS not working with a different partition layout, since I'm only using custom ROMs (currently on Team Gummy, really great!)
I've transferred everything from my m8 to this fone only to find that despite the increase in storage I only have a few Gb of spare storage. Under storage in settings it says over 10Gb is being used by system and other. This seems very high. Is this the same for everyone? What exactly is this 10Gb? And can I remove any of it?

Mine is using 9.6GB System and Other. I would think about 8gb is probably the system. Some is apps, and some is data in apps.

Thanks for the reply.
It seems so excessive. The M8 didn't use anywhere near as much as that. Can't remember how much exactly, I'll check when I get home. Either way, buying a device with 32 Gb of storage, only to find that a third of that can't even be utilised by yourself is disappointing. Looks like I'll need to get me an sd card despite the bigger storage.

At least with the M9 we have that option!
Hi guys! I was trying to install the Marshmallow (3.37.605.19) update via Htc Sync Manager but it kept saying 'Not enough space on the disk..', however, i have plenty of free space available. Can anyone guide me as to what could be the solution? Thanks.

Any other way to update it? Right now, i'm not on Verizon so unable to download it directly on the phone. Now, this method is also failing.
I remember flashing the update on M8 manually by entering the download mode and all that stuff. Does that work for it as well?
