Hello, I have a relative who said that many emojis were not working, and it didn't take me long enough to find he was on May 1 2018 patch with build number BND-L21C185B144, I have not worked on Huawei/honor phones before and would certainly appreciate any help

Good evening.
I'm living in Japan and after years of head aches and troubles with japanese-market-only phones I decided to get a new-no-contract-sim-free phone
I chose the Zenfone 2 due to its price and update availability..
It says it should get an update to Android 6.0 but when I tried to update I noticed its only on Android 5.0
No 5.1 or 5.2...
This phone was release in January if Im not mistaken.. is it possible they didnt update it nor fix any bugs in a year ?!
OR...
Does it the next chapter of me getting screwed cause I'm living in Japan?
I've check about the update and it says on their site FAQ that it is possible to update manually... Push a zip file..
https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/HelpDesk_Download/
The latest version is:
Version WW_2.20.40.139
but I noticed there are WW CN TW and *drums rolling* JP versions...
Now, in some of the other versions I saw mentioning of JP thingy being updated... does it means I can Install a WW version on a JP phone ?
example:
25.Fix JP FlipFont issue
29.Remove BookLive from JP SKU
They write that:
3. Only apply to same SKU update, Example: WW->WW, CN->CN, .
so.. do I have to wait for a JP SKU ?!
My current ver. is:
Android 5.0 JP_2.20.40.97_20150917 (update from 3 months ago? yet still android 5.0!?)
Baseband : 1527_5.0.35.1_0815,1527_7.0.20.0_0723
Kernel version: 3.10.20-x86_64........
Build number: LRX21V.JP-ASUS_Z00A-2.20.40.97_20150917
Again.. is this a regional thingy?
Are all other Zenfone 2 still stuck on Android 5.0?
Btw I've got an unrooted 2GB version...
Thanks in advance to all the helpers
6.0 hasn't come out yet. We are all waiting for it.
Hi the whole "latest" android version thing is a plague caused OEMs and/or the dreadful carriers versions, they always (think they have to) add their flavor on top vanilla (stock) android, be it a launcher (the interface), replacing stock android and/or google apps, sometimes with good and fast results (e.g. Motorola) because they add to stock android rather than changing the whole thing (e.g. freaking Samsung).
You're better off flashing a custom ROM, if you follow instructions CAREFULLY it would take an hour if you're a beginner as it's hard -but not impossible- to brick newer phones.

Question though..
Since its the JP SKU .. will I have problems ?
I had lots of problems on my XPERIAs, since they had JP systems/kernel/everything...
I only have experience tinkering with various japanese xperias... this is my first ZEN so... It should be easier to root and such than sony's... right?
It's easier to root and unlock bootloader than sony! As for changing JP to WW version of the firmware there is a guide how to. No risk of brick since you are familiar with these procedures as i read.
Hi @major9686
Do you recieve the monthly security and bug fix updates?
It seems that the japanese market has both WW and JP SKU phones. Hence the anomaly on the support page.
I don't know, flashing WW might break your cellphone service.
So 2.20.40.97 JP is the version your phone should have.
Yes the stock is still on android 5.0. and in time you will get 6.0 as will we all.
Android 6.0 is confirmed. But will take some time. This is true about most of the phones, except few who gets quick updates. Asus is still better than others.

I dont really like my Asus so far ...
My EeePC gave me problems back in the day, the battery died and I cant replace it no one sells it anymore...
It barely lasted 2 years... now it only runs when plugged and even then lags (even after getting an SSD inside)
My Nexus 7 is also a bit laggy even after factory reset, only bought it 6 months ago
and my recently bought Zenfone 2, already been to repair once but problem still persists. Ear Receiver doesnt work, only if I press the screen around the ASUS logo, some sound gets out.
GPS is messed up, gyroscope as well.
SIM Card 1 is giving me trouble, only after several resets, factory reset and whats not it suddenly became readable without becoming unavailable after every few seconds...
and the most annoying thing, after the repair the USB port became loost, the cable isnt held in place as well as it was before the repair.
But you get what you paid for... so far I had a few Xperias and they all had great build quality. I'm soooo sorry I decided to get an asus this time
whats more, even getting an Asus sim-free I get stuck with the Japanese kernel which doesn't allow me to remove the friggin shutter sound from the camera unless I'll root it
Getting this piece was a big mistake. build quality is sooo bad!
Last Asus I'll ever buy...
In PC components already learned my mistake years ago and changed to Gigabyte...
And dont get me started on being stuck on Android 5.0 ... at least with sony we get 1-2 updates...
I got tired of waiting for an update. Bad battery life and Asus apps using most of the memory so I decided to unlock the boot loader yesterday with their software, rooted and installed Bliss Rom based on CM 6.0.1 witch is awesome
Hi,
I found the latest 2.20.40.164 firmware for Japan SKU on their support website.
NB: This is a full ROM.

Edit: I can't change title, but this is about the japanese rom.
Heey guys!
Today I was busy with updating my phone and trying to get OTA updates. I actually want to keep the Japanese rom and don't want to switch to the Taiwanese rom.
When I was searching again when Android Marshmallow would arrive on the Japanese version. I found this article: http://sumahoinfo.com/android-htc-desire-eye-desire-626-yotei-buttefly-htv31-htl26-au
It was already announced that the update would come to the device. But I couldn't find any more information regarding when. But this article could change that.
In the article there is a leaked update schedule, and the Butterfly 3 is present. It states that they skip Android 6.0.0 and will release the 6.0.1 update in Q1 of 2016.
But right there is the problem. You can't tell if they mean the Q1 which starts at January. Or the fiscal Q1 which starts in April. Let's hope it's the latter one, as that quarter will run from April till July. And the Update would then be released this month or next month. If that happens we could see more features for the device. As we know that NFC works on the Japanese rom. But we would than also get all the new features Android Marshmallow brings us.
Ofcourse, if you don't use NFC at all, you could stay on the Taiwanese rom and enjoy Android Marshmallow already. But as I said, for those who want to stay on the Japanese rom, this could bring some nice features to your device.
I have non rooted, HTV31, unlocked by KDDI Japan, still in the original box. I didn't receive any marshmallow, the software version I have is 1.11.970.1 and I don't get any updates for months.
On the other hand, on my another HTV31 which I converted to Taiwanese ROM there is marshmallow available but it says that it doesn't want to do OTA because phone is modified.
KDDI is so slow... I wish someone makes ROM with Marshmallow and fixed messaging and NFC and TV features working properly.... HTC will never do it; hate it.
Some interesting things are going on at au.
Back in March we got an update on the update schedule for some devices.
The HTC HTV31 was also listed together with some Samsung, Sony and some other less known phones.
But this month(August 2016) some devices on that list received an update to Android OS 6.0.
The devices that received an update are:
- TORQUE G02
- AQUOS SERIE SHV32
- Galaxy A8 SCV32
It appears that some other devices on that list already received an update back in June and July.
That leaves us with only 4 devices left to update.
So we could start expecting an update for the HTC HTV31 at the end of this month or next month.
Hello,
Been waiting for update to Android 7.0 since the news been spread on XperiaBlog and XDA, but still no official release for 1299-6237 (HK Version). Hence, a question arise: Are there additional certifications that apply to HK ROM version that it takes so long for an update, or is there is another reason for it? Also, any idea when to expect the update then? Thanks for help in advance!

you can take the Indonesia or India version... since HK , the last update was .305 / oct2016 ... i am not sure why the stopped pushing for HK
Thanks for reply! I know I can manually flash it, but to be honest, with device like this I cannot be bothered (and frankly not many people do, as pretty much no development going on). I am more reliant on OTA or Companion updates as I do not want to lose my data. Hence it owuld be nice to know if someone would have an explanation for such nonsence really.
I was in the same boat as you. I bought my Z5p dual off of Amazon and received an HK version. I've been waiting for a Nougat update and could wait no longer. I updated using the russian update file and can confim that everything works and no bugs to report. Also no data was lost and my phone language remained in English post update. Should you change your mind...
But to contribute to your question, according to the Experia blog there appears to be a relatively big update coming in April to fix a couple of the Nougat issues with sound some users were reporting. That could be why they halted rollouts again.
i found here in this forum ppl talking about this P2a42_S048_161111_ROW as a stock (for solving bricks problems)
plus i found two different information about the phone release day....some said September and other November 2016 !!
and also i found seller >>>selling a Chinese version p2c72 flashing with p2a42_s033_160919_ROW...and this one looks like its September version
sooo
what is the first build number of P2 ?
Hi everyone. in the last days I spent a bit of time to try to understand why my samsung galaxy s9 didn't received the adroid pie update, and from this search I found just more doubts. INFO: I have an S9 dual sim coral blue, bought by an italian online shop in october 2018, model code SM-G960F, android version 8.0.0.
basically, no one can understand if my device is italian or german (most of the people I talk with says german), and the update are locked to july 2018. I never received an update for my device, neither a security patch, and now that more than one month was past by the official italian pie release, I'm worried about this. I'm asking everywhere to try to understand why I don't receive update and how can I do to fix this problem, but no one can answer to me. I hope someone here knows the solution.
thanks in advance to everyone.
