Magisk installation - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

Hi guys so my question is can we patch a boot.img with magisk and flash it using odin without breaking knox?

Modification of system, recovery or boot in any way will trip Knox as it checks the integrity of all partitions on boot.
The only thing you can get away with at best is unlocking of the bootloader.

Never tried, but even though root may not be needed, unlocked bootloader probably is. Magisk non-system works by patching boot img... If you unlock bootloader you probably can use it.

You can unlocked bl by official Sony method, then flash recovery with adb. Boot to recovery and flash Magisk.
Backup ta - https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
Unlock bl - https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader
Recovery img - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545588613
You can try flashing recovery within locked bl, but I don't think it would work.

So, if you was wondering it, no, cant flash it with locked bl.
At the moment Backup ta didnt work, will check that thread
And thanx the help, nice to have you on z1c forum :good:
perfect. thx! i was already wondering, if i had to downgrade my z1c in order to get the recovery back. but now, how i do i flash magisk from here?
when i try to flash, i get an error message saying, that the ftf is in sony elf32 format and that i need bootbridge from @AdrianDC to flash.
anyone ever did that or has a better idea?
just tried it now and ended up in a bootlop
It is many months after this post, but in case this helps anyone, here is the answer.
BootBridge method is pretty simple and it worked for me.
On an un-rooted device. (important)
Just rename magisk zip to "install.zip" put it in a folder called install.
Then with 7zip, create a zip-file, include the bootbridge folders, "META-INF" and "scripts" with the "install folder" you just created.
Then name it "anything_you_like.zip" and flash with TWRP
Basically Magisk is SuperSU alternative and provides SuperSU service for your device. ( roots it )
No problems for me at this point. Working on 14.5.A.0.270 and can also get working on 14.6.A.0.236 but have other problems related to getting compatible recovery on 236.
Eventually in recovery, system mount and unmount break for me, then other mounts eventually fail after trying to get Nanodroid working (My Goal to UnGoogle my Z1c) and can't wipe format or anything (only way to fix is reflash with flashtool)
Deodexed ROM seems to be necessary for Nanodroid and this is causing additional problems for me.
If I have to run with unlocked bootloader, I think AOSP may be a better starting point.

[Q]Root/OTA/TWRP doubt

I'm coming from nexus family and I know in and out regarding flashing rooms, rooting etc for nexus devices .. I got op5t few days back and I want to root it. But I need few info's.
1. If I root the phone, Can I flash the ota Update zip using twrp?
2. If I flash the update zip successfully using twrp, will I lose twrp and root?
I just want to know what are the steps to follow to update the Stock OS but also keeping the custom recovery and root after the update..
What are the Stock things I will lose after unlocking and rooting..
You will not lose stock features if you root. Both SafteyNet bypass options and root hide features exist with custom kernels and Magisk.
Taking OTA's will be a slight issue, though. Need to flash the Magisk uninstall zip first, take OTA (you will lose custom recovery), then re-flash custom recovery then flash Magisk again.

I thought if you flashed the full zip and then Magisk right after, it would not only keep root, but TWRP as well?

So I need to use custom Kernal to Pass Safety net? Safety net fails in Stock kernel?
If you use Magisk, no. Magisk will hide the parameters that would reveal that your device has the bootloader unlocked.

Well.. it's not keeping root if you have to re-flash Magisk after!
You may get away with not having to flash Magisk uninstall zip, but you might as well since you'll be in recovery anyways.
You can flash stock rom using TWRP as mentioned in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/oneplus-5t-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3708099
Once the update is completed you will be back in stock recovery and you need to flash TWRP again

It would be great if someone who is familiar with OnePlus products and updates could put together a defnitive, detailed post and or instructional sticky on the whole update OTA root subject since there are so many different threads on it.

Sorry, I meant flashing Magisk will boot you back into the system updated, rooted and with TWRP intact.
I haven't heard about having to uninstall Magisk or anything, was just curious

Help!! S9 sm-9600 relock bootloader?

Hi, i have an s9 sm-9600 is the sanapdragon version, yesterday I enabled the oem unlock, but I lost play store certification, I can't download Netflix etc, and some app crash. I want to relock the bootloader, but the toogle is no more there because the factory reset, what can I do ? It's possible to re lock the bootlader ? Thanks, sorry about my English
Just install TWRP and use Magisk. That will fox SafetyNet and allow Netflix and other stuff to work again. For any app that uses Knox, that is a efuse and cannot be reset.

I will try, but for now security folder and Knox thing are working perfectly, in download mode show Knox no trip 0x0, did u think that install TWRP is the only way?
Flash the stock rom via Odin then see if you can pass. If Knox is not tripped, TWRP will trip it.

SafetyNet check w/ unlocked bootloader?

So i have the Sprint variant and TWRP / rooted so i could SIM unlock the phone. Now I did a Flashall.bat with stock Sprint 8.0.0 image and then did an OTA update to latest build. So I am assuming I am stock with Sprint factory image and factory recovery but my bootloader is still unlocked and I am NOT rooted (SuperSU / Magisk or otherwise). I am not passing SafetyNet check and thus cannot DL Netflix, use Google Pay, banking app complaining. I have a few questions:
Whats the least painful or suggested route to this? I'm assuming SafetyNet fail is due to unlocked bootloader
If I relock the bootloader will this erase data similar to unlocking does?
I read that flashing a custom kernel will fix this by not tripping a Safetynet Flag but what other effects does this do? Will it break OTA?
I do not want to root because I would like to continue receiving OTA updates.
Thanks in advance!
If you relock bootloader safetynet will pass and OTA will work

Yeah but does relocking the bootloader on our phones wipe data (factory reset)?
I ask because I heard it does on some Android phones.
Thanks for the reply!

Relocking the bootloader will erase everything, that is the same for all phones with unlockable bootloaders. Magisk hides your unlocked bootloader and helps you pass safety-net while rooted with magisk.
Sent from my Moto Z (2) using XDA Labs

Correct
Anyway to not wipe data, still accept OTA's, and pass SafetyNet?

You could boot twrp and flash pantheon. When you want to ota, just flash stock boot img and you can get ota again. Pantheon hides the flags in cmdline that make you fail safetynet. (In your case, the bootloader lock status flag). You could do the same with magisk though as well, you would just have to do a no wipe flash all when you want an ota. (Edit the .bat to not wipe user data)

root/unlock information

hello
please looking for information
if I make adb oem unlock, and later I change my mind and want locked back to factory state, can I lock it myself? How?
Also if i root with magisk, will knox be tripped? Can I then wipe phone and reinstall stock firmware non-rooted and everything will be fine again?
Just wondering, wanna try custom roms and stuff, but want to be able to get phone to factory working state afer all that.. Looking for informations please

This isn't a thing. There is an OEM Unlocking toggle in Developer Options that can be enabled; once this is done, the bootloader can be unlocked.

Yes, you can relock the bootloader, just make sure you flash back to factory firmware. Locking the bootloader on custom firmware can brick your device.

Yes. Any custom or modified firmware image will trip Knox. This includes Magisk patches and TWRP.

You can re-lock the bootloader as I described above, but once Knox is tripped, it will be tripped forever and cannot be reset.

It's sorta a one-way trip. Although you can flash back to stock and relock the bootloader, Samsung security features won't work if Knox is tripped. This means you won't be able to use Samsung Pay or other apps that depend on Knox.
if by rooting i wil trip knox and later i cant get phone to factory state with knox not tripped , then im afraid that rooting samsung is a no option for me...thanks for replys
if I unlock BL and root, after that is it possible to get device to factory state aagain? with knox not tripped .
