Hello Everyone,
There is a very excellent forum topic for Linux on the Universal (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=251584). I was wondering if we could start a similar one for the Blue Angel. I recently installed Opie II (Qtopia) on my Blue Angel from http://www.linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/ and it looks good, I was just wondering what the status was.
Thank you,
Tim
Hmmm, this looks interesting.
So from my reading of the Universal thread and the scant txt files I have found do I take it you copy the Haret and image files to the root of your sd card and then run haret?
Looks easy... too easy!
Steve
I have tried to start linux with different linux images on my blue angel but without success.
Maybe linux couldn't run with windows mobile 6 pro on blueangel ?
harat cans start but X-Windows (and Opie ...) freezes. Does anyone have the same experiences ?
Which files do I need to copy to the SD card? There is a .rar.gz file, do I need to extract that file in my computer? Thanks.
i haved used some images from here:
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/autobuild/htcblueangel/
zImage-2.6.21-hh20-r6-htcblueangel.bin
and it works.
But there is no wifi driver loaded.
My question is how can i insert/load wifi driver to this image ?
http://www.algepop.net/users/alge/angstrom-ba/images/htcblueangel/
it works.
But linux seems slower as windows mobile.

linux is only the kernel. GPE seems to be slower than wince.
Try qtopia, it writes directly to the framebuffer, so it is the
fastest linux phone GUI.

Any way to install Linux on the BA without a Linux PC? I'd like to try Linux but I only have a Windows Vista PC
Problem with Qtopia not Recognizing SIM
Hello Everyone,
I loaded Qtopia on my BA and it works pretty good, but it doesn't recognize the SIM card and it says "No Modem Connection" and "No VoIP Connection." Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks,
Tim

The same happens to me, but phone works OK for this build whith GPE "http://www.algepop.net/users/alge/an.../htcblueangel/"
Log as root and start "Phone" app (is gomunicator).
I tried Qtopia (http://www.linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/) and GPE. GPE seems more intuitive for me.
Hi, there!
I already tried everthing to get my phone workin but still get no success
I think there is a problem with my audio cause it mostly even plays no sound
i already tried booting with haret while playing a sound or maybe its a wm6 problem?
maybe anyone knows?!

newest gpe based soft doesn't allow calling. Starting gomunicator it says 'cannot open connection to phone module in /dev/ttyS0: permission denied'.
I've been trying and searching for the correct /dev/ttySx, but none of them seem to work.
Anyone using a working gpe setup, where gomunicator works?
Can you let me know where to set what config option?
Thanks!

/dev/ttyS0 is correct for the GSM
You need to apply some patches and changes that you can see at http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/BlueAngelHowtoInstallLinux , section "Some setup hints"
See below ...
The phone speaker will be silent during calls until you set the mixer settings of "Output Mux" to "Mixer", either via alsamixer or by using a proper /etc/asound.state file (eg. http://www.algepop.net/users/alge/angstrom-ba/asound.state).
Even with a correct /etc/asound.state file you have to restore that state before running the phone application (tested with gomunicator):
/etc/init.d/alsa-state start
It seems that after a suspend/resume cycle the mixer value needs to be set again.
If you dont run gpe as root (by creating a user on the first startup), you have no access to the serial device /dev/ttyS0. fix this by adding group "dialout" to addgroups line of /etc/gpe/gpe-login.conf so that it contains:
addgroups audio,video,dialout
Please, let us to know if it works for you.
I'm considering to prepare an installation with the Albrecht's patches ( http://www.algepop.net/users/alge/angstrom-ba/images/htcblueangel/ ) and put it on some server. It's the BA Linux that worked better for me.
Searching posts, it seems that cr2 and goxboxlive has more experience on this port.
Hi,
I just upload a new version with phone support + some tools. Phone support is still in developpement ( phone call/receive works, but only sms receive works ) GPRS is working too. Just change your current GPRS profile password and DNS.
I'll try to upload later an image like it is done on HTC Unviersal with an autoinstall.
http://linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/htcblueangel/Qtopia.
Notice that actually this works fine on Blueangel Board ID 5.
To remember what is your board id please look here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelBoardIDs or just start linux image and look at cat /proc/cpuinfo.
And to finish Qtopia is faster than Windows Mobile
Good luck
Fabrice
Hi Fabrice.
I tested your build. It's really great and fast, thanks!
I have some questions: when I make/receive calls I can ear the other part but I need to cry to the microphone if I want that the other part ears me. You noticed something similar?
Also I don't know how to suspend/resume with this version. With algepop's GPE it worked (sometimes) for me.
My board id is 0x5

I think qtopia is not sending some AT command to the phone which adjusts the mic gain.

Yes, microphone need some attention, need to look at it. Have to look like cr2 say around AT command.
For your suspend issue it is because Qtopia is set to shutdown alone after some seconds by default, just look in Settings-> LIgh icon -> battery and set greater value.
Actually i don't know why power button as no effect for suspend. Anyway it works to power on device after suspend just press it and be carefull to check if your backlight settings are ok ( i do this mistake many times ).
In next version i just add support for messenging system and try to look at power button too.

Fabrice
I'd love to try Qtopia on my BA, but I'm running Vista on my laptop...not Linux...is there any other way to do this from Windows?
This may be the wrong website to address my problem, but someone here can help, I'm sure. TIA!
I'm dual booting xp sp3/ubuntu 9.04 and can't install the CeCabMgr. Every time I double click it (in xp, of course) it says that another uninstall is pending and to restart the computer, to allow it to finish (which I've done 5 or 6 times) and when I go to install CeCabMgr again, I get the same message.
Does anyone know why or how to fix it?
And/or would someone who has CeCabMgr please just repack the IIWPO cab with my info in it for me? TIA!
OOps, double post.
Downloaded and used Cabintegr to be used on the ppc itself. A little more difficult beacuse of how ppc's are, but a pretty good program.
Anyone ever found a solution to this? I can use it under Windows 7 but under XP it states that a installation is pending. It must somehow find something from the Windows 7 Installation. Its annoying because Photoimpact stoped working under Windows 7. Now I need to keep switching back and forth. Used Filemon and Regmon without finding a way to circumvent the check and force the installation.
Hi guys,
I'm having a very annoying problem with the Mango Beta. I haven't been able to deploy anything to the emulator, even with Beta 1. Everytime I try and deploy any basic app (7.0 or 7.1) I get a deployment error messagebox with the error window reading "The version option is invalid". It seems that not many other people have run into this problem and I'm currently working with MS support to try and fix this. However, has anyone here experienced this or have any ideas how to fix it?
I've updated the SDK to Mango beta 2, but I get the same error. For this reason, I'm not updating my device to Mango as I don't want to end up being able to deploy any app to it. (Formatting the PC is out of the question )
FWIW, I've tried using VS2010 Ultimate + SP1 and just the standard VS Express for Windows Phone.
Thanks for any ideas!

But Formatting the PC is probably the solution to your probs...
Happen to alot of ppl with various probs ...after new installation all are OK
Whilst true, I think if I can help find the cause of the problem, then others who come across it can have a simpler solution than format. I'm currently working with MS support, so hopefully something comes from that but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be causing this.
Post this today and suddenly I find a fix
I've managed to solve the problem by moving all the files in these three folders:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XDE
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Phone Tools\CoreCon\10.0
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\CoreCon\1.0
Instead of deleting them, I just created a new directory in their respective folders and moved the files there in case I needed them back. I also uninstalled all Visual Studio versions I had installed, but I don't think that made a difference. I've successfully deployed using the VS2010 Express for Windows Phone, so hopefully VS2010 Ultimate should work once it's installed. Will update tomorrow.
Update - Yup, everything seems to be working perfectly now . I have a feeling it's something to do with the VHD/decfg files in the XDE folder more than anything. I've written a step by step guide for anyone who comes across the problem.
ok! where to even start...
I like many got this 2in1 at wal-mart and I live it. unfortunately I like many am not yet familiar with the new UEFI bootloader bios SOC stuff
heres what I do know and please correct me if im wrong. also please tell me if this 2 in 1 is and can be flashed the same as the asus t100
ok the Flexx11 has a bayntrail-t CR quad core processor 1.33-1.83ghz model Z3735F the t100 is3740
11.6" screen ips touchscreen at 1366x768 res
Efun is the corp and yifang vers.NX1106.1.02.008\139
THE BIOS IS YFG0315009112
it is a 32bit EFI bootloader
the reason I mention all of this is I have tried several times to dualboot androoid and each time ruined the computer and had to return it and I simply no longer wish to return it and love it to much to get something else
the first try the time began to lag and was unfixable for some reason the second time i somehow lost the keys booting and formatted wrong or something and the tablet bricked it would remain black with keyboard lit and no button combo could get it back no boot at all.
I am currently using AMIDUOS to run android kitkat and I love it but from what I understand it isnt compatible with win10 and really still isnt the same as the full android being on the tablet although really really close and awesome
but honestly I have been doing this stuff for years and now with this new windows secure boot and system on a chip stuff im lost
ever get anywhere with this?
I'm curious as well.
It has to be possible. I say that because I recently owned a ChuWi dual-boot device with the same Baytrail processor and SOC.
I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to take a system dump from one of the chuwi dualboot devices and flash it to the nextbook.
Sent from my Ascend Mate 2 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm also interested in doing this. It appears that the Nextbook Ares has the same hardware (minus 1GB RAM) but has Android. I contacted Nextbook to see if I could get a copy of the Ares Android firmware but was denied. If someone with the Ares could upload a backup that would be helpful.
I was finally able to get this working using this method...
https://hitricks.com/guide-how-to-dual-boot-remix-os-with-windows-uefi-legacy
So far I was able to get it to boot from a partition on the main drive as a test. In the process of installing to a secondary partition on my sd card. We'll see how it goes.
I wasnt able to get the boot menu that he shows but after going through the steps I then had an Android OS boot option in the bios boot menu. Pretty awesome! Runs great. Tried running Dead Trigger 2 as a test with full graphics. Ran perfectly.
I just bought one of these yesterday, and it shipped with Windows 10 Home 32-bit. I'm trying to install the 64-bit version but it won't boot from USB. Turns out it doesn't support 64-bit OSes. Where can I find recovery images for this? I messed up and now I don't have audio or touchscreen drivers.
64 bit processor?

Alright, I'm slightly confused now. Looking at system specs for mine it says it has an x64 based processor. Doesn't that mean it should be able to handle 64-bit OS? Even though it comes with 32-bit? If possible I would like to put 64-bit on it as well, but I'd like to be sure that that's not going to break it.

I'm loving Remix OS on here with dual boot. Having some issues though and I really want this to work.
Main and I mean main issue is no sound at all, no rotation is next in line and Bluetooth isn't working. Everything else works great.
This is so awesome its like Android lollipop with windows desktop functionality. Now if I can get the bugs fixed I will be in android hog heaven.
GREAT FIND BRO!!!!! EXACTLY what I was looking for maybe even better than.
for those interested here is the XDA section for all things REMIX OS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix
By the way for those who may want to know I installed dual boot onto the hard drive it went with no issues. Here's some tips for flexx 11
1. I used a partition manager such as easy partition manager to partition the C: drive regardless of what the tutorial said. Couldn't use windows disk management. I deleted the recovery for an extra 5 gigs (make a backup if you do) I used about 19 gigs from the C: drive and made an E: NTFS.
2.Also do not use the remix files from that tutorial use the ones here from the main site http://www.jide.com/remixos-for-pc they are newer and the ones from the other post where incomplete. Also the newer ones on the site now include OTA updating which is totally awesome.
3. I'm hoping this will help someone..... After I was all finished I expected it to dual boot as any other dual boot restart and then i would see options for the OS's not the case here I got stuck on this I was using easy BCD and trying all sorts of stuff, once I looked at the tut a little closer I realized you don't need any of that. Once your all done do a restart and it will go back to windows as usual. Now go to settings, then recovery, then advanced startup and choose from devices I think its the second option on the left list. There you will find Android OS click that and it will take you to your dual boot options. Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. But believe me once you know this your better off.
And that's all I've got please and I mean please post here with any fixes especially for sound and if you have questions I will try to help.
Thanks
PS: I AM GETTING OCASIONAL LOCK UPS, MEANING THE OS FREEZES AND I HAVE TO RESTART BY HOLDING POWER.
Im not sure if this is good news or not...
Using the methos outlined I was not able to get audio bluetooth autorotate and other things to work but after a bit of digging I found out that remix os has an image specifically for nextbook baaytrail (Our PC) here: http://www.jide.com/remixos/devices
click other upper left.....
I cannot find instructions to install this though and using the other install instructions from here fail because the only part of the file to replace is the system image.
I also attempted the other install methods and easy BCD does not work for this PC
So if anyone can help to install this file specifically for our computer as well as verify that it works and what works and how you installed would be great
OK this is really cool I have made headway sort of.
I have installed kit kat android-x86-4.4-r3.img using the Androidx86-Installv24-5800.exe installer and i have rotation, root and it works pretty good for the most part wifi works great so far no bluetooth, it freezes during shut down and the major issue as in most cases is the sound. Im not sure about the camera now that I think about but i will check and report back here.
I really want the sound working on this and I woud be bigtime happy this forum could be solved as far as im concerned
From what I understand there is a bug with baytrail and linux where the spp port is pointed automatically to the usb or something. but for the life of me after weeks of scouring the internet cannot find a laymens guide to a simple fix for this. I'm really not even sure there is one because I'm yet find a rock solid confirmation of a solution
Update: camera doesn't work either
So far the 4.4.3 port is the best. I just can't seem to find any help whatsoever so its looking like so close yet so far away. Its a pure shame that audio and a few other major bugs are the only things in the way of this being a fully working and easy dual boot method.
I have bought a nextbook flexx10 but am unable to install remix OS. I have followed all the steps highlighted before.
1. partitioned the drive with gparted to make a 10G NTFS drive
2. downloaded android x86 5.1.1 iso and remix iso from jide website.
3. used android installer and android 5.1.1 iso to install the image
4. used 7zip to uncompress the remix iso
5. then copied over the 4 necessary files from remix to the drive to the android drive
6. copied over grub.cfg
Now, I do see the entry for androidOS but when I select that, I just get a message at the center of my screen that says "AndroidOS boot failed" and a blue OK button in DOS like font. thats it.. I am interested in knowing if any additional BIOS settings needs to be tweaked.
furthermore, I have tried installing android x86 6.0 by formating the same partition as ext4. All proceeded well and i got to the last screen that said "Run android-x86 now" or reboot. I removed the USB and was able to get into android. (some missing functionality). But when i reboot into windows and try to boot into androis, I get the same message of Andoid boot failed..
Thus I need to know if there's some BIOS settings related to permissions or sorts that i'm missing.
thanks

Sorry for the late reply, use the installer and create a separate drive using C: like a D: or E: and get android 4.4 the .IMG that should work for you and the installer should do everything for you.
So use the uefi android installer after you partition a drive to load android 4.4 the uefi IMG
Its just going to piss you off though because there's no audio and seemingly no way to fix it, which is a crying shame
P.S. typically secure boot is off in the bios on this machine, but if by any chance you turned it on or the newer ones come that way make sure it is off or this will not work.
UEFI Settings
So I can get to a menu with 6 icons (2 rows and 3 columns) by running the "shutdown.exe /r /o" command and then going to Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>UEFI Firmware Settings and clicking restart. The problem is that when I get to this menu the touchscreen and keyboard do not work, and I can only move the highlighter up and down, not left and right. Hopefully one you guys have figured this out. I contacted the Nextbook support desk and they were no help at all.

Okay. So I was able to test this one of my co workers Nextbook and it seems like its a problem with mine.
This might be beneficial for us Flexx 11 users. It's a full port of Remix 2.0 to the Ares 8 with everything working except the camera rotation issue. Very promising. I've heard the hardware is similar. Working on attempting to install on mine. Anyone else tried it?

Hey guys,
NextBook Flexx 11, 64Gb, NXW116QC264, Windows 10
I'm really interested in trying to install Remix OS in Dual boot. However, in my trials, I goofed up my tablet. I found an image, but it turned out to be a Windows 8.1 image, and it wiped everything from my tablet. I had originally had Windows 10 on it.
Could someone perhaps be able to send me the recovery partition of their Nextbook; as long as they had Win10 installed. Maybe if I dump a Win10 recovery partition, I can do a repair on it and restore Win10 to the system.
I can't find the stock/factory rom for the Win10 version of the Flexx.
Thanks in advance,

Just to be clear...(and this goes for everyone wondering in the future) it was windows 10, from the factory??? Last i checked
they only shipped with windows 8.1 or android, depending on the model...If not and you put windows 10 on there, back when it was free, you just use the media creation tool from Microsoft to update windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (after restoring windows 8.1)... it can do this because most tablets have unchangeable hardware, so no cd key is required...it's like how your md5 hash verifies your downloaded files, Windows provides Microsoft with your hardwares md5 hash signature and if it is in the list, then it activates the pc/tablet... but, it only works if you got it free, not if you bought it... if you bought win10 then you will need your cd-key when you re-install, while the other steps are same as above... just note, that for the free upgrade there was NO cd-key, therefore in that instance, if it asked you for a key, you would leave it blank, which you can do in any case, and add your key in from Windows if needed...
And... as for the others having sound issues in Android, I read something about a reason for that having to do with something called an... 'audio stack', I think it was??? Not 100% sure what it meant, but basically, it is designed so the audio hardware only works in windows, I think... (so they can make more money, by making you buy the android tablet separately...)
hope this helps someone who stumbles upon this thread...

I realize this is a dead thread, but I had to chime in... I bought my NextBook Flexx 11 from Walmart 3 or 4 years ago and it shipped with Windows 10 Home, not Windows 8.1... However, IMHO, Windows 10 is a resource hog on this little device. I'm currently looking in to installing Linux...
Hi everyone!
I know thousands of tutorials have been already made for the Surface RT/2, they are not often updated, are missing important steps or are not covering common errors occurring while doing this procedure, leaving the user wondering what to do next.
My tutorial will not be on this post, because of the limited layout options of an XDA post/thread.
Here is the tutorial: https://www.alexenferman.com/articles/SurfaceRT/W10-OA-SurfaceRT
This tutorial covers: The installation process, Pictures, Possible errors and solutions, Extras
I also made a video.

Comments or questions can be posted on this thread or in the comments section at the bottom section of the website.
Enjoy!
I followed this tutorial and I have windows 10 now. Still have question, why web browsing suck that much? It is incredibly slow.
In you tutorial you mention a build update using "install.ps1" I did not found that file in the zip.
Thank you again, great work you have there

In you tutorial you mention a build update using "install.ps1" I did not found that file in the zip.
Thank you again, great work you have there

I know, browsing is slow.
Well, in this case, you will have to open each file and click on "install"
I am using store.rg-adguard to download apps. Some of them are asking for Microsoft.vcliba.1100.00 arm. I have found x86 and x64 over internet but not arm. Do you have it? Thank you man.
Found it in "store.rg-adguard.net" thank you
Hi Alex,
I have read your instructions and most of the commends.
Very interesting and I am eager to give it a try.
One question though,
In the meantime my Surface RT is version 8.1 and even has the start items in a row on the left side, as in windows 10.
Should i go back to version 8.0 to start your Windows 10 upgrade?, or can I start from the present situation.
Your help is much appreciated.
Regards, Hans
Hi Alex,
your tutorial worked great for me. Thank You.
Just one more thing: After starting windows I do get an error like "Windows created a temporary paging file". So I thought maybe pagefile.sys is corrupt. I was no able to clean this. After sfc /scannow it tells me corrupt files are found but no correction was possible.
Maybe you have another idea.
Best Regards Tom
Install Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.1.1.appx
Hi Alex,
At the end of your amazing tutorial it says:
Install Microsoft.NET.Native.Runtime.1.1.appx and the other one.
Can you explain how to install these files?
Clicking on them has no effect.

Hans

Works wonders, thank you very much!
Only problem I have is this "paging error" whenever I log in, which I couldn't seem to be able to fix even though I tried optimizing the W10 setting a few different ways. Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you again!
EDIT: I set it manually to max size (min 16 MB, max 2047 MB) and the error is gone!
thanks! that worked for me
had to do it twice though with two reboots
anyways solved!

Did you run APPX.ps1 in the APPX.rar before trying to install the .net runtime?

You have to create the pagefile yourself. I forgot to add it in my tutorial. Will add it soon. Meanwhile, search for "how to make pagefile Windows" or something like that.

Yes, I did.
In the meantime I found a solution for the 2 files.
I transferred them to my user direction and from there with the Powershell I could install them.
Thanks for your help. Regards,
Hans
Hello,
Thanks for the tuto and the video
I went through the instructions but after applying the win 10 image, the boot will lead to automatic repair.
Trying the reset, show only 8.1 in the list of operating systems
Did I mess up in the process ? Should I start over again ?
Thanks
Hi Alex, didn't realize you had a thread for the tutorial here as well. i asked on yt/page about my issue:
I'm stuck at the end. After I installed the Chinese wim 'successfully', I reboot it and the Surface shows blue screen error 0xc000000f and if I press the windows logo button on the tablet I get the 0xc0000428 error. The fix on the website doesn't work, when I go into "Troubleshooting", then select "Reset this PC" then select 8.1rt and there it gives me a msj saying 'insert your windows installation or recovery media to continue" The usb img last used did not work, tried putting the install wim from 8.1 image (SurfaceRT_BMR_30.8.17.0) and get the same message about 'insert your windows. Thanks for the tutorial!
The file in the Google drive folder is named "windows RT surface 1 (RT). wim"
Is that the name that should be entered on dism apply image command? System doesn't recognise install.wim and I don't have that file on my USB
diskpart exit ..then problem
I have followed your directions and ran into a problem. After diskpart> exit (enter)
Yours shows x:\Sources
Mine shows
x:Windows\system32>
Where is my issue? I am on Windows 8.1. Do I need to go back to 8.0?
Appreciate your time
Thank you very much . you gave me a new hope for my Rt1
if you need any test device for any modification just ask.

You need to rename the file to install.wim or any other name you want, then you can type the command with the filename you chose.
Hello,
I am stuck on step 2. After having successfully installed the corrected Windows RT image, I restart my tablet (Surface RT) and I am stuck on the "Region and Language" choice screen. The tablet no longer reacts (no touch screen, no keyboard, etc.).
Do you have a solution ?? Thank you

I think you installed the wrong image. People tend to install the Surface RT image on the Surface 2. In this case, simply install the Surface 2 wim and touch and keyboard will work again.
