How do I verify my non-LTE variant of the Nexus 7 Asus K008(ME571K) is NOT pinging cell towers with device identifiers?
I'm wondering because the LTE variant of the Nexus 7 Asus K009(ME571KL) does have LTE / WCDMA / GSM support. Maybe my K008 still has a 2G antenna and it's pinging local cell towers? I'd like to know for sure. Thanks.

The LTE model has extra hardware: RF ICs, antennas, SIM slot, etc. Compare the attached pictures of the LTE PCB to WiFi-only version here, they are completely different and no cell tower pings are possible. I'd be more concerned with Gapps, Facebook, Uber... apps, you've no privacy with them. Install a custom ROM without Gapps or try LineageOS for microG.

Thx for the info, but I can't tell the significant differences myself from the images.

On top of your assurances, I'm also comforted that the LTE version indicates "WWAN RF FEM is a WTR1605L (multi-band 4G LTE)" while the non-LTE does not have a WWAN.
But the non-LTE version apparently has GPS, indicated in the "additional specifications" section near the bottom.
Should I be concerned about GPS? Does it ping passively or otherwise? Does it transmit any device identifiers or location?

Hey guys, trying to get a Verizon Note 3 to work on TMO. I have a TMO rom installed in a safe strap, got it all running for the most part, but can't get data to work right. I used the TMO apn posted on TMO's website. When I switch from GSM only to LTE/WCDMA/GSM or WCDMA/GSM, I get no voice data or text. If I look at system status, on the mobile network state, it says Connecting, then Disconnected. And it just sits there and toggles back and forth. Any ideas? If I stay on GSM only, I have data, voice and text, but it's all on EDGE. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

1 of two things
1) Verizon model doesn't support GSM fully
2) doesn't support 1700mhz freq which T-Mo uses, it does support 1900 apparenrtly but you might not have that in your area.

If I switch to the Verizon stock rom, I can get HSPA+.
I was under the assumption (maybe incorrectly) that the phones for the most part were all the same. Could I try flashing TMO modems to see if it unlocks the 1700mhz band? I live right by New York city so I would imagine that I would have the better frequencies here.

It is NOT about unlocking frequencies. The phone itself is NOT sporting those frequencies. i.e. Hardware is not there.

I have an unlocked sprint note 4 which I use outside the USA as a GSM phone with a sim card.
So far so good.
The problem is that this phone being produced for sprint does not connect on 4G.
I have been reading about the possibility to change the NV values to be able to add LTE bands to the phone and I was able to change those values but still no luck.
In my country, the 4g network works mostly on bands 3 and 7 (1800 and 2600).
I am starting to think that probably the sprint version might have differences in hardware with other 4G capable phones.
Can anybody tell if there are any hardware differences between the sprint note 4 and other note 4 models.
Do you think that the sprint note 4 has what its needed to connect on 4G on the above frequencies?
If yes, what might be the right approach to try to resolve this.

Yes, because of Sprint Spark it only uses 26 and 41 bands, 1900mhz and 2.5ghz respectively. FDD-LTE and TD-LTE are unique to Sprint and they are big enough to have the phones shipped this way. For flexability yoh should move to a GSM model phone.

Its worth giving a try for sure. You do run the risk of bricking your NV and losing signal altogether. However, I have done this successfully using DFS CDMA Tools on an old Samsumg Cappy from AT&T back in the day. *Disclaimer: proceed at your own risk*
After further review, and some trial and error, the above listed mod only works with GSM phones. Your Note is a CDMA version. Please do not try.

I understand but since my note is a CDMA how can you explain that it works fine for GSM and data in 3g ?
What might be the hardware difference with the international version that does not allow my phone to work in 4g in my network?
I am assuming that they use the same chip-set and the problem is only soft based.

A tower beside my house just turned on LTE and it's using Bands 12/17 according to cellmapper. They're still in the process of running fiber backhaul to it and every time I go by the tower site there are people there doing something. I have been doing some researching and found out the modem in this thing might support other bands. The modem has a Qualcomm MDM9215 OOV Chipset and a Qualcomm WTR1605L multiband LTE chip according the the internal photos taken by the FCC. Is there any way of enabling the bands? Could I just take the modem out, put it in a mini PCI-E slot, send some AT commands to it and enable the bands that way? Or do I have to do something to the firmware? There is a place to upgrade the module firmware and router firmware which is BusyBox based.

So I have verizon in michigan.. instead of it saying verizon in the top left corner is says 31000... any ideas on that ? or how to change it?
The 5t is not compatible with VZW as it has no band 13. It may work but I think you'll have problems with that missing band.

Do you know that 13 band does?
Band 13 is the primary LTE band for Verizon. It also uses 14 and 2 but 13 is the primary band and you're going to have major problems without 13 on VZW or Sprint. See below...

ballllllllllllz.. stupid verizon needs to drop CDMA...
Yeah I have had the same issue with Oneplus in the past. Also, the UTC 11 didn't have band 13. Service was very spotty and LTE didn't work often. Sucks for us Michigan (at least Detroit metro) peeps because Tmobs and AT&T suck around here. VZW is so solid, but being limited to phones really hurts!!!!

Help a dummy out. Does the CDMA support mean the 5t can make phone calls and the lack of band 13 mean LTE performance will suffer?
If so, that sounds like my VZN supported phone.. It may not be a downgrade in service.

I've never tried my OnePlus 5t on VZW as the posts I've read said the phone is basically useless on VZW.

Perhaps because regular 2G, 3G or the faster 3G HSPA(+) on AT&T's network runs on GSM technology which is completely incompatible with the CDMA network Sprint uses for those technologies and the firmware on the Sprint variant is artificially limited to only be able to connect to CDMA and not GSM even though the phone's modem has the capability? Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt however.

Yes, because LTE is its own technology. LTE, GSM and CDMA are each their own technologies, each completely different from the other in a multitude of ways. That's what makes one not compatible with the other, but with the advent of LTE it also made it much more cost-effective for device manufacturers to include 4G support for all major networks (provided the device supports the necessary bands and the carrier allows it, of course)... so yes, LTE should work flawlessly.
The specs on the LG Official Website for Sprint LG G8 shows it has all the 2G, 3G, and 4G bands on Cricket except it's missing B30 for 4G:

Yeah thats what I thought too but even after changing the network mode and restarting still not getting 3g data
Yes you can dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information or network, look for preffered network, then select wcdma preferred, it will switch to hspa+, do note there will be no indication, only a 3g symbol on the bars. if you download network info app, it will let you see that you are indeed on hspa
Ok after many attempts to bring up my 3g inwas able to do so by going into ##data# and resetting the apn then boom 3g icon popped up. Weird because the apn was correct in the first place prior. But thanks now it works

LTE. If you don't get good speeds (about 10Mbps) then change it to GSM. This is something I actually have to remember to do if I'm outside the house because I actually get more consistent performance inside my house using 3G HSPA+/GSM. On HSPA+ it goes to is 6Mbps which is plenty usable but normally it runs at 10Mbps which is more than enough for Full HD streaming whereas if I use 4G LTE under the same condition I'll either get 30Mbps or 1Mbps depending on the time of day and/or if the network is congested. 1Mbps is definitely not usable for anything but streaming at horrible quality or browsing basic webpages.
