EDIT: Resolved by following Naman Bhalla's Unbrick Guide.
I'm on latest Freedom OS community build right now. I have this problem where my OP3 won't boot into recovery at all. Trying to do it just kills it and only a very long power button press is able to revive it.
I have tried flashing the recovery via fastboot but that also doesn't work. Is there a way out of it? I can't flash zips. Are there factory images I can flash via fastboot that can replace everything? I don't care about the data. Any help would be appreciated.
flash modified recovery via fastboot
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
I have tried Garak's TWRP and the other TWRP. It doesn't change anything. Are there factory images like Google provides which can be flashed using fastboot?
i have the same problem, flashed the previouse version of Oxygen OS. But now i can't get in to recovery.. when i flash it trough fastboot everything goes ok, but when i want to go into recovery the screen is blank and the device does nothing.
Maybe read the OP of FreedomOS rom.

I have read the OP of Freedom OS. I understand that obviously I overlooked something because of which I ended up where I am but I am looking for solutions here. I did not dirty flash the community build if that's what you mean.

You need the modified twrp version, the only way to recognize it, it has a mouse cursor in the middle of your screen.

Yea, I used exactly the same thing to get back my device working correctly again. I missed the crucial information that modified TWRP was required.
Hi, I manually updated my honor 7x (BND AL10 INDIAN) to EMUI 8 following the other post in this forum and after that I went on to flash TWRP recovery again from another post "complete_twrp_ramdisk.img" so that I could take full Nand backups and what not. But Here's the problem, When I try to flash the stock recovery back "BND_RECOVERY_NOcheck" which I flashed during upgrading to EMUI 8, it says "size of image is large than target device"
I tried this using boot fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery.img" and also using the TWRP. It doesn't work either way. So I'm basically stuck with TWRP. The reason I want stock recovery is because
1. I can install OTA UPDATES on EMUI 8 (I actually got one)
2. I may want to just be on complete stock like locked bootloader, sock recovery etc...
Could any one help?? Maybe I need the right stock recovery file ?
BTW It's my first post ever so please go easy if I did any mistakes.
Could you share your twrp? Thanks!

"BND_RECOVERY_NOcheck" is nouget stock recovery.
Oreo update replaces all the partitions, including the recovery that you flashed in order to install the update.
The stock recovery can be extracted from "update.app" , the one inside the oreo "updateL22.zip"

Hi, I'm downloading that UPDATEL22.ZIP right now and Can I extract this with any unzip/unrar program? What will be the name of that recovery? is it going to be "recovery"? The thing is I've never extracted anything from a ROM so I have not idea.

you should already have the update.zip.
use same one you "manualy" installed.
winrar did not work for me but 7-zip did.
there is also rom extractor built into "multi-tool" and stand alone extractor around here some where.
I found it here
the name is just like the twrp you flashed and just like the partition that you flashed. (recovery_ramdisk.img)

Hi, Thanks for all your replies. After doing a bit of search, I managed to get it extracted on my android using zarchiver app and I copied the recovery_ramdisk.img from that BNDL22.ZIP and when I tried flashing it using the fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery.img" It went ok and It got installed but when I tried to boot into recovery, I got this screen "ERROR MODE" ATTENTION ETC.. I don't know where I'm going wrong?

I dont know.
The new way to boot to recovery was written in other thread as "hold both volume buttons & power button"
not sure if it was a problem with extraction or not, but attached is the recovery I extracted. do not have it installed. I dont even have oreo installed., I'm still pulling files together and reading the update-scripts and trying to convince myself if it is worth trying it.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=262391
I have now jumped on board and did oreo conversion on L24, then flashed RR. I went and installed the oreo recovery, then back to this stock recovery. It worked fine for me.

Hey bro thefe are too many files there will it flash through fastboot or twrp and how to flash one by one pls help me
Hello all,
thanks for all the info in this thread.
I bricked my Honox 7x (BND-LC21) by trying to go Oreo.
The installation went halfway through, but now I can't complete (missing info howto flash bootloader / kernel) and I also can't go back as the partition layout has already changed to oreo style.
Steps done so far:
- unlocked boot loader
- installed twrp
- extract system image and recovery image from oreo update zip
getting the phone in fastboot mode i can successfully run
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img (i can also flash old recoveries this way, but none of them will successfully boot into recovery mode)
fastboot flash system system.img
either way, the system will not boot afterwards.
how do I manually flash bootloader / kernel on the oreo partition layout?
erecovery and hisuite won't recover my phone either...
Any hints appreciated

can you in to TWRP?
I got Redmi note 5 (china/AI) version with oreo out of the box and all good but i wanted to get rid of chinese bloatware and stuff. so i installed global official rom which turned out to be for indian Redmi note 5 pro and now i cant use camera. So I am trying to go back or install beta version or install twrp for this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...dmi-note-5-china-ai-to-leaked-global-t3782175) but i cant even install twrp. followed the methods still cant. any tips or guidance plz. my bootloader is unlocked.
tried installing twrp through XiaoMiTool, "device unautorized"
tried through Cmd, all worked and after reboot it was supposed to go to twrp automatically but it didnt and got boot up, i went to recovery manually but still stock recovery.
Now what to do ? need global rom for chinese variant which is in .tgz file so that MiTool can flash it. or tell me a way to flash roms in zip format.
Downloaded official roms from http://en.miui.com/download-342.html#513 both roms were in zip file. both roms didnt install the way described in Flashing guide (update app, search downloaded_rom and flash)
MiTool didnt flash them
MiFlash didnt install them.
Did you execute this command - fastboot boot twrp.img right after this command - fastboot flash recovery twrp.img? You need to boot to twrp first before you reboot. If even after reboot twrp gets replaced by stock recovery, then you need to repeat the fastboot process again and then flash lazyflasher in twrp.

nah it was enough help, accurately what i needed. Thanks again. Take Care.
I have Honor 7x BND-L24 (USA version) which is stuck at a screen which says:
ERROR MODE
Attention!
Please update system again
Error!
Func NO : 10 (boot image)
Error NO : 2 (load failed)
Before this screen I had EMUI 5.1 with Android 7.0 installed version BND-L24C567B150CUSTC567D001 and TWRP custom recovery. I wanted to do OTA update so went and installed stock recovery and that somehow damaged my boot image. After factory reset it goes to the screen mentioned above. I can't even turn it off anymore.
I can still boot into fastboot mode, I can still go into recovery by holding both volume buttons and power button but the install always fails and brings me back to the same error screen. Is there any way to fix the boot image error?
Fastboot flashing does not work anymore and gives errors:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'boot' (15170 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.395s]
writing 'boot'...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.406s
The bootloader is unlocked:
Code:
fastboot oem get-bootinfo
...
(bootloader) unlocked
OKAY [ 0.008s]
finished. total time: 0.009s
I have also seen in the forums that a dload method (creating a dload folder in the sd card and adding UPDATE.APP file into it) could be used to recover, but it always stops at 5% and fails. Maby I am doing it wrong because the stock ROM has two .zip files (update.zip and update_full_BND-L24_hw_usa.zip) and they both have the UPDATE.APP file in it. If someone could give me a guide on how to propertly use the dload method I would like to try it.
Any additional comments or solutions to try unbricking the phone will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
P.S. after searching the xda forums it seems that for the dload method I would require a specific rom called the service ROM dload. I have tried searching for it but could only find it for BND-L21, if anyone has a service ROM for BND-L24C567 (USA version) please give me a link, I would like to try the dload method with it.
SOLVED !!!
Thread can be closed. If anyone need the solution on how to fix this issue just send me a message.
Hey how'd you fix it dude? I accidentally broke my boot image and im getting the same error as you did. the only thing i can do is use root shell in stock recovery. I'm trying to figure out how to flash twrp (Ice cream sandwich) to recovery2 but so far no luck.

Is your bootloader unlocked and frp unlocked?
if yes then:
Get the stock recovery, boot, system and etc. by going into the OpenKirin website, there is a nice guide there in the support section on how to download and extract the stock recovery and boot images and etc.
Hold down the volume down key and plug in the usb cable. Use fastboot to flash in the stock recovery.
flash them using "fastboot flash" command with the adb and fasboot tool.
if not then:
download Chimera tool.
Pay for 3 day trial (~12 eur)
Do system restore in the application, worked for me. BND-L24 USA version, I now have EMUI 9.1.0 by installing BND-L21 9.1.0.141(C432E2) ROM using the Chimera tool.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! I repeated the process you provided and so im not bricked, I have all the partitions of ice cream sandwich. The only problem is, the dload method and upgrade from sd card thing stops at 5% and when i use dload, it says image verification failed, because i was trying to upgrade to Nougat. I have the bootloader and stock recovery though. How did you upgrade to pie after doing this?
Also how is pie? maybe I'll install the pie rom for L21 and use english. I actually intall the AL10 once haha. It was horrible. Almost nothing worked and it tried to prevent booting into recovery or bootloader.
Thanks!

dload method does NOT work on this particular phone. I have tried it multiple times.
Best way is to find the ROM that works for your phone. I have tried a lot of the ROMs for this phone including all of the ones in the OpenKirin website, like the Ressurect, Lineage and etc. those do not work, it just bootloops. But the L21 worked perfectly, only issue is that you need to flash every partition (system, boot, recovery, ram_disk and etc.) and then do a factory reset. If you do not do a factory reset after the installation in will not boot.
Just go to Firmware finder, get EMUI 9.1 ROM, extract all .img files and flash them in using fastboot.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll try it soon, but as far as i know, from here in ice cream sandwich, it says image verification failed when flashing recovery and other partitions except not system or boot and others for some reason.
Actually I've previously installed RR and Lineage ROMs--maybe you forgot that they must not be flashed in TWRP? Anyway, thanks! Pie sounds like it must be the best option here. I'll go ahead and install it. Oh, and just so you know, the dload method can work on the Honor 7x but you have to flash a patched version of the recovery called BND-RECOVERY-NoCheck.img, except I only have the oreo one so it can't help me.
Thanks!

Hi, I have a BND-L34 (mate se) and could use some help. I'm not very good with rooting but I followed the directions found here
https://www.desinerd.co.in/how-to-huawei-mate-se-root-twrp-recovery/
which was mentioned from this XDA post about unlocking the bootloader and rooting
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/how-to-unlock-huawei-bootloader-removal-t3780903
So I was able to write the TWRP from the guide on the "recovery_ramdisk" but not the second partition like the guide mentioned. So if try to boot into TWRP I get an error 11 and error 2.
Phone appears to be working otherwise.
I suspect that if I were to ever factory reset the phone I would be in the same situation as you were. Could you tell me how you flashed the EMUI 9 files? Like what the commands were? thanks in advance.

@teatimecrumpet we have the same phones . . . .
Ok so, first, are you on Oreo or something lower? If you're on oreo I have the proper TWRP img for the ramdisk partition. If you flashed your TWRP to recovery but not recovery_ramdisk, I recommend reflashing the stock recovery and then flashing mine to ramdisk. But you shouldn't worry, you can't even factory reset anyway, if you've overwritten your recovery. So if you say your phone's fine now it should continue to work. I have not yet upgraded to Pie like @DBxda7x suggested, but I will soon.
In any case, here's the TWRP you must flash to the ramdisk.

Hey Krimson, thanks for the reply. It's been awhile since I had that error...it's a bit hazy. But I'm on oreo now and am trying to either downgrade back to nougat or try to flash oreo again. Reason being the phone was working fine but now my GPS doesn't really work and I can't pick up any satellites and I kind of need google maps to work.
I tried to use hisuite to upgrade to the newest firmware and downgrade to nougat but no luck it just boots to TWRP.
When I first rooted I know I flashed recovery and recovery2 (but recovery2 turned out to be erecovery on oreo...I remember it was a pain trying to figure out.)
I can't seem to find a simple guide to follow and like I said I'm not very good with this. Do you think you could give me the commands to either flash what you have or do the pie update? I'm totally fine going back to stock and then trying to root Nougat again.
Thanks!

Hey, I know it's been a while, it is pretty hazy. I actually got into a situation where i bricked my phone from trying to downgrade from Pie to Nougat directly. Don't EVER do that. If you're on Oreo now, I know that there are some guides on how to use HWOTA to downgrade to nougat pretty easily. Here's the link:

Hello Good day everyone, please help this idiot who just bricked his phone for no reason at all:crying:
I accidentally wipe my system or should i say im just flat out an idiot for wiping everything without any backup. i have installed twrp and i unlock the bootloader already because i wanted to install miui in my mi a2 lite phone but ended up wiping everything and now im stuck in twrp mode. i still can do fastboot and open my phone in twrp mode but thats all NO OS. How can i save my phone back to normal. please help me. THANK YOU ALL!!!
If you can get to fastboot, use the stock rom flash script. See the stock rom thread in the guides forum.
If you've got windows, miflash may be easier to use. I think it takes the same stock rom file.

Just make sure you download a fastboot rom which has all partitions.
When I wanted to remove all traces of root from my phone last week, i noticed that many of the more recent images only have /system or just a few partitions.
I ended up installing one of the earliest Pie images (V10.0.2.0.PDLMIFJ if i recall correctly) and then doing all the OTA's until I was at V11.0.9.0.QDLMIXM or something.
Fix

It happened to me like a week ago and i was able to fix it just yesterday. cuz i am new at this root stuff. But i was able to do it at th e end. You need to install stock rom, miflash. Also download flashable stock rom. Because i installed like 5 stock roms. But they were not flashable so it did not work. Extract the stock rom that you downloaded. Then open miflash. Now go into fastboot mode and plug your phone to your pc. Now locate the folder where flashable files are and then click flash. It should say Success. If not that means it did not work. But it should work so yeah. That is it.
guys my phone boots into fastboot only, no twrp no recovery, any way to fix it?
