Hello there,
just for your info - maybe it helps somebody:
after some days of trying i found the shortmessages (with tel-number etc.) and some other stuff in a file:
1. Explore your phone with Windows Phone Device Manager
2. goto \Application Data\
3. Add "\Microsoft" to the path (under the file-explorer logo)
4. goto Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore
5. Rename "store.vol" to something like "store.vol.txt" (it is mandatory to rename this file - without this step the file is in use by outlook)
6. extract it (drag n drop)
7. run perl script (#perl test.pl store.vol.txt)
8. See output
Maybe one of you could build a backup application or something like that!
Link to perl script:

Original source of script:
http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/pocketpc-dev/21040/Reading-pim-vol-EDB-File-on-a-PC
Edit:
Don't know if you've seen it:
\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore\data
ALL emails and other messages + contact-pictures + signature (three sizes) (just edit the file extension to .html or .jpeg - hex edit helps to find what is right )
\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
-> TabsStorage.bin: Opened tabs from internet explorer (where are the cookies?! )
\Applications\Data\82A23635-5BD9-DF11-A844-00237DE2DB9E\Data\IsolatedStore
ALL Facebook-Information (if app is installed), including messages, pictures, notifications etc. etc.
\Application Data\Location\Cache
Wifi & GSM Data when features is enabled in WP7-preferences (encrypted?! don't know..)
Much more to come...
greets

Thanks! Looks interesting, I might try that!
Hey just wondering but does syncing with outlook have the option to sync texts? Only reason I wonder is because you said that file was in use by outlook....

Hey,
i just THINK it's in use
If you look at this file without renaming it's at 0,00 KB and you can't extract it. Maybe the contacts-tile or something else is using it
Hi Endeffekt,
thank you for this great hint!
But one more question before I try. Is it possible, to rename the file after the procedure back to "store.vol" without losing the messages on the phone?

WP7 creates a copy of this file (automatic), so no problemo sir
Great! Alle messages are there. But the script doesnt work for me.
Now we need a smart developer who can make a viewer for it.
Is there a way to copy the vol file back to the phone? Or is the file always locked? For restore reasons...
I think this is very interesting (possibility to backup/restore SMS), so probably we should keep it on the front page so the devs could notice it.
Has anybody tried to restore that store.vol into the device after a reset? I mean rename the current store.vol to any filename, then copy the backed up store.vol to the phone and restart.
I'd like to try but i need to get hold all my current sms!

SMS retreival on Windows phone 7 using device manager
Hey all.
I have an Samsung Omnia phone 7. Dev unlocked. Running 7.0.7004.0
Anyone any idea how to view the file in question? I need to download this file, and save the SMS entries to my PC.
When I use device manager, I cant see a folder called
\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore
I mean, when I copy and paste the above text into the path, its just beeps and doesnt show anything.
On the root under file explorer, I have
My Documents (which is empty)
Windows (lots of files in it)
-ActiveSync
-Application Data
--KeyStorage
-AppMgr
-ColdInit
-eventlog
and a few others
When I open the Application Data folder, I only have a 'Key Storage' (certainly no Microsoft folder, and I tried typing it incase it was hidden or something , but just a ping sound and no refresh of the file list)
and when I open Key Storage, I have no files.
Any help working out why I cant see these folders / store.vol file would be very much appreciated
Does Windows Phone Device Manager not support this functionality on the Omnia?
Thanks
this should be a sticky, and testers needed
Using the diagnosis code 5**6244*3
I was able to open the Apps Launcher and Shortcuts Menu and can confirm that the path \Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Stores\DeviceStore exists on my Focus.
In that folder, I have:
temp
0
4
6
3
19
8
Each of these folders has a list of single alpha named folders (a, b, c, d, e, etc...)
Each of these alpha folders has a single .dat file
I haven't tried to extract those files to try to play with them. I don't know how I would with the Focus... But just confirming the path exists on my Focus and has the .dat files
thank you munkeyphyst, still waiting for endeffekt

I've checked out all the EDB recovery/readers on teh net and cannot open one of these "edb" files from the phone.
if anyone knows the architecture of the file, I can parse it and have a program ready quickly.

Hi. I have...
- Nexus 5x H790 version 6.0.1 MMB29P full stock.
- Latest USB drivers from (http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html).
- Nexus Toolkit v2.1.0 sfx" say i have all MTP and ADB drivers installed.
- Pc with Windows 10 x64 (latest build 1511 compilation 10586.36).
When i plugged the phone, and change "charge only" to "file transfer (mtp)", windows native file explorer show all folders and subfolders, but empty, without files inside.
For example, I cannot see the photos/videos from the camera folder to copy to my pc.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
are you able to copy files to the phone? have you set explorer to show hidden files? is this really the case for all folders and files, or are there exceptions? did you set these folders to not show up in any app on the phone, for instance in a photo gallery or media player?
just some qustions that came to mind

In some files, copies. Others, not.
I dont change nothing in app or gallery.
Have you tried clearing data on the Media Storage app, then rebooting your device? I sometimes have problems with folders and files not showing up in Windows Explorer when connected via MTP, and this seems to fix it for me. You may need to choose the option to show system apps in order to see this app.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Same thing here, also windows 10. Can confirm that clearing data on the Media Storage app is fixing the problem ☺
Hi,
Problem met with Android 7:
Creation of a folder with an fil manager in the HTC10, it creates well a visible folder with the device.
But connected in USB this folder appears as a file and not a folder!! With Windows10.
What is the cause this problem?
Conversely to create a folder by the PC in USB both have well a folder.
To make a backup with Titanium Backup it creates a file and not a folder! Thus not possible to open with a PC connected in USB.
Test to my rom and Leedroid it's the same problem !!!!!!
An idea on this problem?
@+
Interesting ...
What application did you use for creating the folder?
I just tested this using ES File Explorer, created a new folder as per usual.
Once connected to my Win10 computer, that folder is valid and treated as a folder .. no issue to report sorry.

Hi,
Create with HtcFileManager ! And titanium creates one in first one backup! !!
@+
ahhh ok I had to install HTC File Manager so obviously not included in my factory HTC ROM (unless I removed it and forgot).
But yes I have the same problem as you, create a folder with HTC FM, connect to Win10 and it shows up as a file instead of folder!!
Maybe HTC FM is abandoned and not up to date enough to work on current ROMs?
Re.
With Es Explorer work.
But when Titanium Bckup creates its Folder it is a file in Windows !!!!
That is random indeed :/
can't help with that sorry
Re....
Tested on 3 Roma, Lee, Maximus, and my Pyrana.
The same problem on 3 with Titanium! Tested also on 3 PC Win10 and Win7.
A file is create instead of a folder (On the HTC appears well a folder)
Also test of several FilesManager.
A part is OK but others in the creation of a folder, give a file on the PC
I've never had problems with folders, per sé. But when creating a folder using my computer, it takes a good few minutes for the device to respond to anything after that. Its done it on pretty much every phone I've ever had. Is an odd thing.
Copying a folder over, or creating one on the device, no problem.
Re hello,
It is necessary to test to install Titanium on last one Nougat and this problem is going to be there! (Without creating a folde Titanium before) similar with the Rom Leedroid or ICE, to create a file with HtcManager on the memory of the HTC also problem ...
There is strong chance that this problem is bound to Nougat.

Hello,
I am using S20 Ultra with the latest original Samsung Android 11 as well as the file explorers: My Files (samsung), Total Commander, MiX and CX explorer.
To this day I have always had access to files in android/data from the SD card and / or internal memory.
Today the android/data folders in the SDcard and internal memory are showing that they are empty although I'm sure they should be there. I think that the latest android 11 version installed had to hide these system files, and I can't find the option to make these folders and files visible.
Could you tell me how to RE-display all my folders/files?
Thanks for your help
Same question. You can access them with Total Commander in Windows 10. But if you upload some files in a map, they often aren't complete or missing. So you always have to check if copies are there in the maps you want them to be.
If not you have them copy seperately to the wanted map. Cost a lot of time.

Unfortunately it's because of Android 11. Don't know why Google did that. U can only access the files using the built in default Google file manager. U can use Nova launcher shortcuts to access it or use this app which is a shortcut to it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marc.files
It's a real pain to move files etc using it, but there's currently no alternatives
I don't think it's because of Google, it's because the stock Samsung ROM is by default encrypting the data partition. The only way to get rid of it is to flash a custom ROM and wipe data in TWRP before flashing the ROM. But I don't think that's an option here.

Samsung had encryption prior to Android 11. And the data folder was visible. so it is either Android 11 thing or One UI 3.1 thing.

Ok. On my HTC U11 with LOS 18.1 (A11) data was visible, so maybe they just fixed it in LOS and it's a Google thing indeed. I am on OneUI 3.0 and data is invisible too, so it's not a OneUI 3.1 only thing.

Hi I use Solid explorer payed version and it opens android/data folder. It is android who blocked access to the data folder for privacy reasons. But with Solid explorer i can access it. I'm also using S20 Ultra with latest one ui 3.1 update.
You can move files from and to the data folder via this app.

Hi all and TNX for yr experience sharing,
Since February this year, Samsung offer a system update... So, since February I've Android 11. I discover that Android 11 android/data folder access denied.
Here is some information gleaned from the web and my sahring experience.
Managing files in the "Android/data" folder on Android 11 as well as the latest version of TotalCommander, MiX Explorer and CX Explorer have access to Internal Memory android/data/ folder but NOT to SD-Card android/data/ folder.
In addition, I have access to Internal memory/android/data folders through computer connexion. But still, the access to SD card/android/data folders is denied.
Also, I've installed TomTom Navigator GPS on Android 10 and the maps (>6GB) in the SD-card. I updated the maps several time without problem. Since February this year, after system update to android 11, due to the denial of access to SD-CARD android/data, TomTom can no longer update the maps.
On the other hand, my wife who has an A51 (android 10) and uses the same applications as me with the same application configuration can update TomTom maps , while I CANNOT.
I'll appreciate any help
The main app I use I can download music and videos and store 60GB or more. The app will store the media to internal or sdcard Android/data. Before I could use vlc to access the sdcard, now I cannot.
This change has made the tablet next to useless for my needs.
Has there been any progress with a solution?
I really hope this gets solved soon. I had all my chrome downloads on my SD card in com.chrome.android. And now I have no access to them...

I could connect via USB, and see folder contents under obb, and upload a file used as backup restore.
However, drag&drop asked if I want to overwrite, but both the original file and the one overwriting disappeared from the phone. Pulled the USB, connected again, used ctrl+C ctrl+V on Win10, and it wrote to the folder.
This is on an S21 with Android 12, Feb update.

You can access, both read and write Android/data folder using Speed Software's Explorer version.
Hey, you can access android /data folders from this app = https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alphainventor.filemanager
Download FV File Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.folderv.file
May be this is the first APP that can visit other app’s exteral data file .
1. Open folder "/storage/emulated/0/Android"2. Click the"data" folder3. Select the application you need4. Click "Use this folder"5. Done! you can see the files.

OP, I have changed this category from Question to App to fit the content.
Also, the Chinese guide link you are sharing from coolapk cannot be accessed from overseas (US or Europe IP). I think that is some settings with the host of coolapk. I print the guide page as PDF and attached it for you.
Great post. I am using OnePlus 10 Pro running official Oxygen OS 13 (Android 13).
Although the phone supports 120Hz refresh rate, PUBG Mobile (Global) doesn't show an option for 90 FPS in its settings and the game runs at 60 FPS max. In the past, I could modify the ACTIVE.SAV file using a Hex Editor to unlock 90 FPS.
I used to use MiXplorer by Hootan in the past, but it doesn't work on Android 13. I tried using FV File Manage as explained in this post, and although I am able to see the files in Data or OBB folders, I am not able to modify them (for example, open the Active.sav file in Hex Editor or even copy it to another location in internal storage). I have attached a screen recording video demonstrating the above. Would be greatly appreciated if someone could tell me what I am doing wrong.

Huh ... That's news to me. I am running the latest version - v6.58.6-Silver. And upon checking right now as I am typing this reply, I still don't have read-write access to OBB & DATA folders. I can see the files inside OBB & Data folders but I cannot modify them in any way or copy any file.
And sorry but what you said can't be true. I commented on playstore and the I got a reply from MiXplorer Team as well saying that it's a Android 13 limitation. Attached picture below
so what about sd maid, can it fix that problem?

MiExplorer does not work for me too. Literally anything including using a PC to access the files doesn't work for me, can't paste anything into the app data folders. Pixel 6a on Android 13. I might have to root the phone to be able to access the Android folder.
My phone is rooted A13 and still can't get access in Data/OBB folder -_-
Root does not mean that you will have access to anywhere just like that. You must have some application that wants there and process that

This app is good for accessing/changing/transferring files and folders within the main app folder, but you can't actually rename the main app folder. Need this feature so when you clear data on said app, it won't delete the files and folders within. Long story on why I need this. It pertains to a game I mod for. In order to keep the modified files from reverting back to the original files, you need to rename the main folder, clear data and then rename the main folder back to the original. Hope you can figure this out. For now I have to use the files app from the PlayStore.

Latest Mixplorer plays up for me too, sometimes prompts for access to /Android/data folder, but the folder listed is a previously accessed /Android/data/subfolder, not the root /Android/data folder...
I gave up and copied via adb shell
This "FV File Explorer" is actually the first app that I try that is capable of seeing the Android content.
But it seems it's RO on my Pixel 6a. I needed to get some backups back in a an app folder. But pasting seems not to work. Same goes for the PC. Can see the files on PC, but not able to paste something in these folders in "Android"
Someone who knows a workaround for this on a unrooted phone?
Edit:
"FV File Explorer" shows me a warning when trying to make a folder in "android". So looks it's still RO on my phone

You can't downgrade to Android 12 unless you use the special developer build or the A13 bootloader (although things won't run well) due to the anti-rollback protection in the A13 bootloader.
All you need to do to access Android/data on A13 is to use a file explorer that supports it, e.g. MiXplorer, as mentioned earlier in this thread.
This page explains in detail how you can Transfer Files in Data and OBB folder in Android 13:

This is the shortcut to the default Android" Files" app you never knew you needed. Not the one with the "file cleanup" feature. The one that magically appears sometimes, and when you go back to your apps list, it's not there. It's the 'admin' one that Google doesn't really want a lot of people to use unless THEY think it's appropriate. So to repeat, this is just a shortcut, to help you find the last file manager you'll ever need, and the one that actually came stock with Android.
