Hi. I have...
- Nexus 5x H790 version 6.0.1 MMB29P full stock.
- Latest USB drivers from (http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html).
- Nexus Toolkit v2.1.0 sfx" say i have all MTP and ADB drivers installed.
- Pc with Windows 10 x64 (latest build 1511 compilation 10586.36).
When i plugged the phone, and change "charge only" to "file transfer (mtp)", windows native file explorer show all folders and subfolders, but empty, without files inside.
For example, I cannot see the photos/videos from the camera folder to copy to my pc.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
are you able to copy files to the phone? have you set explorer to show hidden files? is this really the case for all folders and files, or are there exceptions? did you set these folders to not show up in any app on the phone, for instance in a photo gallery or media player?
just some qustions that came to mind

In some files, copies. Others, not.
I dont change nothing in app or gallery.
Have you tried clearing data on the Media Storage app, then rebooting your device? I sometimes have problems with folders and files not showing up in Windows Explorer when connected via MTP, and this seems to fix it for me. You may need to choose the option to show system apps in order to see this app.

Same thing here, also windows 10. Can confirm that clearing data on the Media Storage app is fixing the problem ☺

I have tried with file manager and found the files i was looking for in android/data/something but when i connect my GN to my PC (win7 32bit) i only get a few folders and files,
I have tested with both USB modes and I only get the basic folders such as
Alarms, Android, DCIM, Downloads, Movies, Music, Notifications, Pictures, Podcasts, Ringtones.
and the file manager reports more folders present :/
also the files i'm trying to access are within the android folder (which is visible on PC) but in filemanager there are 10-20 folders found in android/data that are missing on PC. PC only shows 3 folders in android/data
It also appears to be possible for other users to access the exact same file at the exact same filepath, why can't I?
is there a feature on GN or ICS that makes it impossible to access some files from the PC or is this a bug/flaw?
in case you guys need to know what files i'm trying to access, it's the game files to GTAIII
I kind of have a similar problem.
When i connect my phone to a windows 7 computer it mounts okey and shows me the files. If I create a folder on the phone from windows explorer, unmounts the device, I can not see this folder on the phone via a file manager unless i reboot my phone. This also applies the other way around. If I create a folder on the phone from a file manager, then mount the phone to the computer, I can not see the folder until I reboot my phone.
Is there a fix for this? Is it a bug? How can i resolve this? It's very frustrating.
MTP/PTP doesn't offer all the features the full USB transfer mode has. Search will help you find the pros and cons of this.
Workaround: Use an app like WiFi File Explorer or Airdroid.
This is driving me crazy. I want to copy the TitaniumBackup folder from my GNEX to my Win7 PC.
Looking at the folder through Root Explorer on the GNEX all appears normal. When I look at the folder through my computer the folder is showing but the contents are backups that are almost a month older than are on the GNEX. If I delete everything in that folder FROM THE PC it still exists on the GNEX.
It is like it is looking at a different folder entirely however looking and searching through ROOT EXPLORER there are no other TITANIUM BACKUP folders.
This happens with a lot of apps. Example: I created a ZIP file using ROOT EXPLORER. The zip, viewing through ROOT EXPLORER is located in the /SDCARD/SPEEDSOFTWARE/ZIP folder however when I look at the SPEEDSOFTWARE folder via my PC the folder is empty.
I have tried both MTP and PHOTO mode. This happens with a lot of folders when trying to view them from my PC connection. Some stuff is there and a lot is not.
Hmmm, there is a /MNT/SDCARD and a /SDCARD folder (I don't know much about Linux) and the files I am NOT seeing on my PC are in /MNT/SDCARD and the files I am seeing are in /SDCARD. Why are there 2 different "SDCARD" folders? I changed the TitaniumBackup to save to /SDCARD instead of /MNT/SDCARD but the backups are still not viewable (or copyable) from my computer. I just don't get it.
So the question is, how do you "backup" the contents of the "SDCARD" directory if you can't see the files when plugged into the PC?
Well, after comparing all the "visible" files on my computer when I access the GNEX via MTP vs what I see using ROOT EXPLORER the ONLY 2 folders NOT visible from my PC are TITANIUMBACKUP and SPEEDSOFTWARE (thus is the ROOTEXPLORER app data). Why would they be hidden?
It's due to how the Android MTP service works. It hasn't scanned your internal storage for the new files/directory to present to your PC yet.
Download and run an app called SDrecan from the Market. This will force the media services on your phone to rescan the device.

this app is force closing. i cant even run it . do you have any idea? just today was working fine , i installed a custom rom and now when i try to put another roms on my sd card , i get this message that it's empty
trickster mod also has a media rescan option in bottom of tools section if this is helpful to you, I have to use it after using the "a better camera app" in order for pics to show in gallery without reboot
I keep uh...a few hidden folders on my phone for certain files i dont want loaded in general apps (gallery, video player, etc)
However ive noticed that sense flashing to a custom rom (codename android 2.0 RC) im not able to access these folders via MTP USB connection to my PC. Its not a huge deal, as i can access the files and move it to the appropriate folder but is there a fix for this? i have a folder called .stuff that i cannot access via my PC...but can via root explorer.
Are you using Windows or Linux?
Linux, you could need to press ctrl and h to view hidden data.
Windows, you would have to change your explorer preferences...
You could also just put a .nomedia file in the folder you don't want media players to see.
Using windows.
They aren't set to be hidden in properties.
Just when you put a . In front of the folder name it hides it from media players in android.
Putting a no media file inside will hide all the files as opposed to just hiding the folder from say dice player. As it has a toggle to show hidden folders. It was perfect. Just cant access the .folders in windows anymore. Is this a cm9 bug? Didn't have this issue on my stock rom

Hello, today I plugged my phone in to try and transfer some photos I'd taken earlier, and to my surprise could not see the photos in the DCIM folder. Using FX File Explorer I can explore that folder just fine on the device itself, and see everything.
This problem seems to be affecting several folders, but not all of them. Sometimes it affects different files in the same folder differently. For example, I have some .pdf and .apk files in my Download folder, which I can see on my phone, but on my PC I can only see some other files in that folder, including a .zip file. The issue appears to be based on the date the file was created, as outlined in this post in Google Support forums. I had no success with the cache-clearing of External and Media storage system apps outlined in that thread. I had success with being able to view all my /Downloads/ folder items by putting them in a subfolder and then bringing them out again into Downloads. The trick did not work with the DCIM folder for some reason.
I am rooted, but this issue has persisted through at least one re-flash of a stock image (I just updated to the newest July build without wiping all my data).
The only thing I can think of is that I ran this command to change the permissions of /su/bin when I was trying to get Android Pay working and perhaps that screwed something up? But wouldn't that be reset after the stock image was flashed anyway? Or would I need to wipe to do that? And even so, it still doesn't explain why it only affects certain files and folders.
Thoughts on things to try? Is there any way to undo that chmod command? FX File explorer says my current permissions on that folder is 0755, could that even be causing the issue? Apparently the change to 751 failed.
The issue persists using different USB cables and ports on my PC.
Did you have any luck figuring this out. I am having a similar problem as well.
I have always been able to transfer music from my computer to my nexus5X's Music folder with no problem. Today, something isnt working right. When I plug the 5X into my computer and select File Transfers, I can see all my files on the 5X. When I select the Music folder, it opens but only shows 237 songs. When i look at the folder on the 5X is shows 1016 songs. For some reason when connected to the computer it cant see all the files in the music folder. Also, when I try to copy a file to the music folder windows give me an error and says "The device has stopped responding or has been disconnected" If i try to copy is somewhere else on the 5X it works. I just can send it to the music folder. What can I do to fix this?
I actually noticed this before the update to 7.0. I used TiBU but the folder was not there. Using root explorer I can see the folder. I placed the Titanium Backup folder into another folder and then I could see it via the PC.
I uses a usb 3.0 port on the PC , have not tested 2.0 atm.
This is a typical MTP bug, just find & clear 'Media Storage' system app data, reboot. Dont connect PC before media scanner service finished.
You will lose media playlist, though.
I am unlocked and rooted on my new OP3. I installed the oneplus drivers and have Vista on my laptop. I have USB debugging on and switched to File Transfer MTP mode after plugging in the phone cable.
I can view files on the phone in internal memory, delete files on the phone, and copy files from the phone to the PC using a windows explorer dual pane alternative, like xplorer2. But I cannot copy a file from the PC to the phone. The phone appears as a portable media player with the internal storage labeled as 'generic hierarchical'. I wonder if this has something to do with it. Maybe these dual pane explorers need to see the phone as NTFS format for this to work. Does anyone know: Is the phone supposed to appear as a portable media player in Windows? Or do I have a problem with having the wrong drivers?
The reason why it seems like the drivers are okay is that using the standard windows explorer, I can copy a file from the PC to the phone--just not with an explorer alternative.
I'm in such a habit of using a dual pane explorer, I'd like to try to fix this if possible. Has anyone else been able to copy files to the Oneplus 3 using a dual pane explorer? Does your phone appear as something other than a portable media player? Or do I need to resign myself to use the standard windows explorer?
I finally fixed it. Seems to be my network adapters were using google dns servers. So this fixed my issue: http://ecross.mvps.org/howto/enable-netbios-over-tcp-ip-with-windows.htm.
