My phone is rooted with magisk and i have twrp recovery..
I am getting latest miui OTA update i want to update my phone but I don't wanna lose my all data is there any way to update miui without losing data on rooted phone ....
What i have?
1. Rooted
2.TWRP RECOVERY
What i don't want to lose?
1. My current Data
2. Magisk root...
Thanks...
Create backup, flash FULL OTA (not incremental) and flash magisk, wipe caches (recommended) and reboot.
If you'd like OTA support you can switch to supporting recovery like redwolf. Read the forums.
If i do what you have mentioned above , so there is no issue of a data loss ?? Or i have to use another recovery?
Hi,
firstly I am sorry for reviving an old thread, but I could not find any answer to this question. Also I am a new member and this is my first post (sorry, if I make any mistakes).
So how do I update my MIUI in the correct way and easily without any dataloss? A step-by-step guide would be very nice.
I have MIUI Global 10.3.2.0 Stable and want to update to MIUI Global 11.0.3.0 Stable.
"Normally" (before my device was rooted) I would directly update via system-update, but I am kind of scared since my phone is rooted now. It is the first time I have rooted my device, so I am new to this topic. I have used Redwolf to root my RN5P, but without flashing it as my recovery (just "fastboot boot redwolf.img", the normal TWRP did not work, since it always asked for password), also I have Magisk 20.1 (Stable) and cam2api installed.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks ahead.

Yes you lost magisk root... Just flash after, like as you did before
I am waiting since two weeks. Please someone answer/help me. Thanks.
- Get the recovery ROM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/how-to/received-9-5-17-ota-update-t3813192
- fastboot into custom recovery, if not already permanently installed
- flash the ROM
- re-install Magisk through recovery
- re-install camera2api
Other possibility, since you have only rooted your device, but haven't installed any custom recovery
- use the builtin update from MIUI
- fastboot any custom recovery
- re-install Magisk
- re-install camera2api
Neither way any data will be lost, nor will any app be de-installed

Thank you for your reply. But in both ways I have to install custom recovery. That is not what I want (else I would have done it earlier in the frist place when I have rooted my phone). I want to keep the original MIUI recovery and "everything original/stock as possible" (that's the reason I stick to MIUI and do not use any custom rom).

Read it properly.. In the second method its written that we should fastboot any recovery not flash(install) it.. I hope your problem is solved now:good:
My question is i have orange fox recovery installed. How do I install ota ? Is just flashing the full rom zip enough? I want to preserve data.
@Mura1 you should only fastboot into any custom recovery. This you must have done in the past to root your device. It's the same way.
@Anymeofyou yes this should work. It's the same way I upgrade the device. Afterwards I flash the custom recovery and magisk as well, but that may be only a precausion. In the past I had to fastboot TWRP and flash TWRP once again within TWRP to have it installed. OrangeFox should keep the custom cevoery after an update, but since its only a few seconds to flash OF once again, it doesn't hurt me.
Till now no loss of data recognized.
Ah, thank you @Anymeofyou, know I got it and big thanks to @Tischbein in the first place . Sorry, for having to reading it multiple times (my bad).
I have updated now successfully. Have a nice day.

My oneplus 3 was rooted (oxygen 3.2.5 maybe) but I installed the update 3.2.6 today from phone by going into settings. When the phone got updated my root does not work anymore. Please help.
I forgot how I rooted my phone before but it was still on android 6 when I rooted.
When I reboot I still get the black screen saying the device can't be trusted because xxxxxxxxxx Is unlocked, dont remember what.
Usb debugging is on as well as oem unlocked ( these options are still showing unlocked when i went to settings but don't know if they are ACTUALLY unlocked.
Xposed luck patcher, etc not working
Root checker says root not installed properly
Used twrp before.
Also is there any way that I can re-root my phone again without data loss?
Its my first post ever in any form so dont know about posting much.
You can mail me too at [email protected].
Thanks
Try flashing Super su manually from Recovery
Flash latest SuperSU (I think it is 2.78) in twrp. Flash xposed module in twrp too
If you did the official update from Settings > System Updates, then you are most likely back to stock recovery as well. You're going to have to re flash twrp before you can flash root and xposed. You will not lose data by performing any of these steps as your bootloader is still unlocked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/toolkit-oneplus-3-toolkit-unlock-t3398799
Download twrp
Boot to fastboot
fastboot boot sometwrp.img
Flash supersu from temporary twrp

If you had root and custom recovery (TWRP) then you couldn't have updated by this method as it wouldn't have worked. You need to reflash SuperSU in TWRP as others have stated.
Much simple: from recovery (hope you're having TWRP installed) flash latest SuperSU and Xposed zip file.
Then Wipe Cache/Dalvik, then reboot in System.
If you won't to lose root, you should consider a custom rom like FreedomOS, that provides SuperSU binary by itself (even Xposed, if I'm not wrong).
So I've done a lot of reading and there are multiple threads with steps that aren't exactly clear or contradict each other or are outdated. I just want clarification on what I believe are the steps to flash a custom rom (7.1.2 since I can wait for 8) on a brand new Pixel XL.
Setup phone to the point of enabling adb debugging and oem unlock
Fastboot unlock
Fastboot boot twrp RC1 img
Flash twrp RC2 zip in twrp
Reboot to installed twrp
Wipe system, data, caches
Flash ROM
Flash twrp again
Reboot to twrp
Flash gapps and root method (magisk working for 7.1.2 or should I be using supersu? Also which versions?)
Flash twrp again??
Boot to ROM then setup and use like normal
Should this give me custom ROM, root and twrp that I can boot directly to without a pc again? As long as I do twrp flashing after a ROM each time it'll stick? Also, I keep seeing things for setting a pin before initial twrp boot but without spending 4 days reading I can't find the reason for it. Should I be flashing vendor, bootloader and radio for the latest Nougat release BEFORE unlocking or can I do it through fastboot prior to unlocking?
Coming from Nexus 6P and that was my first run in with the bootloader, radio and vendors so I want to avoid issues for myself. Phone should be here tomorrow and want to get down to business right away lol.
Any and all information is greatly appreciated. If all of this is answered in a centralized area please point me to it and tell me I'm stupid for missing it.

Assuming the bootloader is already unlocked and disregarding the unlocking instruction, these instructions are dead on accurate. I personally dont use magisk, but maybe another user will chime in. For 7.1.2 id use supersu 2.82.
You dont have to flash twrp again after flashing gapps and supersu, but its a good practice to have.

Thank you very much. I'm about to unlock and go nuts on my phone. New phones are so fun to fiddle with!
if you want to use magisk you'll need to flash a custom kernel before you flash magisk. Also you'll need a modified magisk zip. Search around the thread you'll find one, the latest version I found was magisk v13.3.
Edit: Just found out magisk is officially support for pixel on version 14.1 Check out the magisk beta thread.

By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.

This recovery was developed for the p905. It doesn't apply to the p905v at this time because it's bootloader locked and a custom recovery isn't possible.
Instructions
Install zip using an existing custom recovery
Work
Everything works as in the original version + otg and mtp.

For some reason this recovery causes facebook and facebook messenger apps to continuously crash over and over, other than that so far everything is great!

....and.....while not using F*ckbook, I don't care about crashing messengers and so on. :evel:
I installed this recovery and everything is ok except when trying to restore modem
I backed up my system to install official firmware to test some stuff
Then i reinstalled the recovery and tried to restore my backup but it was failing when restoring the modem
I deselected the modem and restored everything else and all ok
Same here. Failing restoring the modem.
The latest official Version doesn't work either (crash):
twrp-3.2.1-0-viennaltexx
The latest working version for my p905 is:
twrp-3.0.2-0-viennaltexx

Successfully TWRP flash thru Odin, observe the progress in Odin left bottom corner and prepare for this; "directly" when flash finished "force recovery start" (volume up home and startbutton until recovery starts)
Not fast enough" stock recovery autorestore ! Doitagain.
About bootloader (4.4.2 KK)
Hi,
I've just got a SM-P905 on 4.4.2 kitkat (stock). I'd like to flash one of your ROM (probably the LOS 17.1) and this recovery first.
Should I just flash it through Odin or do I need to unlock the bootloader? In that case, could you please drive me to a tutorial? I've searched a lot on this forum on howto unlock the SM-P905 bootloader (or just if it comes -the 4.4.2 version at least- with an unlocked one already) but I haven't found anything on it.
Thanks in advance

Flash TWRP only, through Odin.
Then flash ROM, GApps, and optional Magisk, through TWRP.
Magisk needed for root-apps, or to hide root.
(flash bootloader and modem not needed, only sometime later, if your modem are to old, and SIM not working)

Done a couple of days after my post. Forgot to report. Then flashed LOS 17, gapps (pico) and Magisk. Everything's ok.
Thanks for your answer.
Anyway, now it can be said that the P905 with stock 4.4.2 KK has the bootloader unlocked.

What is your actual stock firmware on it?
You can try latest official .tar and then work your way up to this.

Now I've Android 5.0.2
LRX22G.P905XXSABQB1
@uzzi78 so you have the latest bootloader installed.
That's good.
Btw afaik/remember there is no unlock option.
Try other TWRPs as a. m.
Greetings. I received the OTA update (which I did not install!) on my OnePlus 5T today. I'm on OxygenOS 5.0.4 with magisk installed, phone is rooted, bootloader unlocked, stock recovery (no TWRP).
What's the right path to upgrade to 5.1.0?
I'm experienced with the command line and have no problems with it.
Based on my ideas, I think the path should be:
- Download full Oxygen OS 5.1.0 Full Zip
- Start TWRP using adb
Code:
fastboot boot
(which TWRP version?)
- Wipe dalvik and cache
- Flash the downloaded file
- Wipe dalvik and cache
- Flash magisk
That's it. Am I missing something? Do I need to reinstall magisk as specified as last step? Which TWRP version should I use (from the official website?)?
Thanks for your help :good:
Please go through the dedicated update thread that ive made for the update
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-7-2-7-1-1-ota-t3709265
The thread has all the instructions and files needed to update. As far as twrp is concerned i recommend latest codeworkx or or bluspark recovery. The links are available on the thread.
Feel free to post on the thread if you have any further doubts.
Thanks @Funk Wizard , I read that thread (I linked it in my post) but it mentions "For Stock Non Rooted Users with Stock Recovery" and "For Rooted Users with TWRP Recovery" while in my case I'm rooted with STOCK recovery, which doesn't fit any of those 2 sentences. Which one should I follow?
As you are rooted you can flash the full zip from stock recovery that would remove root or you need follow and flash via twrp. If rooted stock recovery is no good TBH and i recommend staying on TWRP.
You can flash twrp from fastboot and then follow the instructions on the flashing post.
In case you dont need root anymore you can just flash the full zip from stock recovery. It will remove root and you will stay on stock recovery. In both the cases, use the full zip to flash via twrp or stock recovery.
No good? Please be more specific, why it's no good? From my understanding keeping stock recovery with magisk installed and bootloader unlocked allows me to pass all SafetyNet checks, which is very helpful if you don't want to deal with apps complaining that you are rooted. I can easily boot to TWRP as long as I can plug my phone into my computer by just using the fastboot command. The only downside I could see is if I brick my phone and have usb debugging disabled, I can't fastboot from adb.
Flashing TWRP would make me fail SafetyNet checks, which I'm not interested into.
After I flash the full zip, do I also need to flash the OTA update?
Thanks by the way, basically the only real "special" thing I need to do is install Magisk again after flashing.
Flashing twrp doesn't break safety net. So it's upto you if you want to stay on stock recovery with no additional benefits or on twrp.
Also, if have full time zip then you don't need to flash ota zip again.
That's good! I'll definitely flash twrp in that case.
@sshivampp Sorry to resurrect this thread, but looks like it's important. On TWRP website itself it's stated that installing TWRP would break dm-verity. What's the consequence of this? https://twrp.me/oneplus/oneplus5t.html

I suggest you install the latest Orang fox recovery if you don't have it or if you don't have custom recovery. Ive had issues with magisk "sticking" bc of the installed recovery. Flash Magisk zip via recovery then reboot to system and make sure it's still there. Make a copy of magisk zip and rename it "uninstall.zip" Then reboot to recovery and flash uninstall.zip. Then reboot to system then again to recovery and reflash Magisk zip. You can also try installing magisk alpha

Most people will have minimum to no experience regarding your situation honestly since its rare to root without the safty of a custom recovery. I think you should ask in the main magisk XDA thread or consider a custom recovery. Its hard to pinpoint the reason in this situation
