back up question

My desire I got from Vodafon uk is playing up after I had basically customized it just the way I wanted so now my question is is their anyway I can back up all my settings and bookmarks on the memory card or that's not possible
at least I can always re download apps from the market its my settings am concerned with so can these be backed up and kept on memory card to be used in another desire and what's the best back up solution for my issue. ?
Your Google contacts, calendar and Gmail are automatically backed up to Google servers. In addition, search the Android Marketplace for a backup application, such as "MyBackup", I think it gives you a 30-day free trial.
Also, the Desire features an automatic backup system that backs up your web browser bookmarks, messages, dictionary, and settings to the microSD card. Press MENU on the Home screen, then tap Settings > Privacy > Back up my data, then check Back up my data.
To restore downloaded applications after resetting your phone, for example, log into your Google account then use the market to download the applications you previously downloaded. There is a record of what you previously downloaded in the "Downloads" of the Android Market interface.

CM7 - launch default navigation in contacts

I'm using CM7RC1v2 and I'm having troubles choosing a different navigation app in the contacts by clicking the address...it always opens Google Maps.
I tried deleting the default settings...but it's greyed out.
I deleted Google Maps but then nothing opened when clicking the address....
I tried deleting the default settings from my other navigation app but that was greyed out as well.
Any idea?
So, no clue anyone?
Hello again,
right now I installed cm7 from scratch (not only due to this bug but performance issues). Unfortunately it had no impact: I still cannot link any navigation app to my contacts addresses!
edit: seems to be a bug in the navi software...another one worked.

Settings Reset every Boot Up

I'm still on Color OS 1.2 and it's driving me crazy, i'm just waiting for a stable ROM to jump ship as fast as i can. It's the buggiest stock ROM i've ever used, the stock gallery app crashes, almost everytime. VSCO in-camera camera crashes. I had one random reboot, but this is not the worst.
The settings. I love SwiftKey so i naturally installed it, and everything goes okay until i try to use it. It works, it works perfectly, but everytime an app requests keyboard usage, the SwiftKey keyboard launches but a notification always appears, it reads "Choose Input Method" so i tap it, and choose SwiftKey and the pop-up goes away but the notification is still there. I tap it again and the same window pops, and again and again.
I go to the Input Settings to try and choose SwiftKey once and for all, but ColorOS doesn't let me uncheck Oppo Swype, i tap it but the checkmark doesn't go away. So basically i have both SwiftKey and Oppo's Swype active. That's okay, i can live with the constant notification and Oppo's Swype active as long as the keyboard launching is SwiftKey.
But, if i reboot the phone, and try to use an app, a wild Oppo Swype appears. I go to the settings and SwiftKey is unchecked. So basically everytime i reboot the phone i have to check SwiftKey in order to use it. I'd love to delete Oppo's Stock keyboard, but i don't know how.
Another thing that is annoying me a little too much is Facebook. Everytime i reboot my phone, i have to add my Facebook account in the Accounts Settings. What's strange is that, even without my FB account activated in the settings, if i open the FB Messenger or the FB app they both login automatically but if i open another app that communicates with a FB account (Chronus for example), i have to add my FB login manually because the app says that i do not have any FB account linked to my phone, and what's strange is that i thought this could maybe be due to my FB app being stored in phone storage, so i moved it to system storage and as soon as i tapped the "Move to system" button, my Find 7a rebooted.
And i won't install 2.0 Beta since it must be even worse atm. I'm craving for a stable ROM.
edit: I can't even change the order of my home screens.
Don't be scared by the "beta", in my opinion 2.0 is a lot more stable than 1.2. And a lot of the bloatware is gone.

OK Google anywhere detection after 5.0.1 update

I could have sworn that before the update I could use the ok google detection anywhere (after I enabled it search settings). I tried it again, and it's grayed out in the Search, Voice settings in Google Search. Only the top main option to enable OK google voice allows me to toggle it on or off.
Are you sure you weren't using Google Now launcher?

Disable S Voice in app management, reboot, then go back to Google Now settings. It shouldn't be grayed out anymore.
Woot! Your response led me on the right path. I am and was using the Google now launcher, but the reason I kept referring to Google Search (which is actually just called Google in the app store) is because I thought it was a separate app responsible for the search functionality and that it hooked into the Now launcher. So I uninstalled the standalone Google app, rebooted phone, and now the option is no longer grayed out in the voice detection section of the Now launcher settings.
I think it's strange that Google allows the Google search app to coexist and override the built in Now launcher search functionality (or at the very least seems to pull the standalone Google search app's settings when I try and configure them through the Now launcher)
I'm sooo confused right now. What I uninstalled was just an update. The "Google" search app is still installed and asking me to update it, which means it came built in to the firmware. Aarrghh!
I updated it, and the option for OK Google functionality anywhere in the phone (different apps, screen off, etc) now became grayed out again. So its' at least linked to that it seems. I also don't get the ability to train the OK Google voice recognition (also grayed out) with the updated Google (search) app. The stock, original firmware version of the app does allow it. Aggravating!
Yup I noticed the same thing, the ability seems broken after the update.

I followed the advice to disable the s voice app through the application manager, rebooted... And forgot to check it till today. Yes! Its working. I'm 99% sure it was disabling s voice that did it, and 1% possibility it was an a background google update... So I'm leaning toward the s voice fix.
Thank you to the 2nd poster above with the recommendation. Fixed it.
Hmm. My svoice is enabled and I am able 'ok google' from anywhere. Including the lock screen. I haven't actually used svoice since the update so I will try it and then see if ok google still works from everywhere.
I can 't force stop or disable S-Voice and OK Google options are grayed out. Any ideas?
In the past I was not able to disable s voice through the application manager, but this time I was.
A couple of possibilities I can think of. In the s voice settings, disable any available options that may be enabled, such as activating it via home button, etc. (Don't recall all the various settings now because it's gone completely from my application settings section)
Also, go into the Security settings of the phone and make sure s voice is not listed as a Device Administrator. I've noticed that apps can't be disabled or uninstalled as long as they're listed in this section as device admins. As usual reboot after just in case, and check if you can disable it then.
I haven't modified anything on the phone other than manually disabling a bunch of apps through application manager and replacing touchwiz with the Google Now home screen.

Titanium Backup convert as system app

Hi guys. I gotta problem and need your help. Tried to convert Google Messages as a system app through Titanium Backup and something went wrong... I don't really know where I fail. Titanium Backup says "Working, please wait" after taping "convert as a system app" and already waiting 30 minutes and absolutely nothing happened. The application icon disappeared in my application list and I'm unable to find it anymore. What to do now? I've taken a backup of the app right before try of converting it. I see a message in notification bar about the app being converting and "please wait" but how long time it takes to convert actually? I don't really know if I can restart the phone to skip it or maybe should I stop Titanium Backup to skip it, without any issues? I don't wanna anything go wrong more, as it looks like it's some problem out here. Any solutions?
It's done... after 40 minutes of converting... but the Messages icon disappeared from my system and isn't visible in applist in settings. I can see it in Titanium Backup as you can see on attached picture. I'm kinda panic when **** like that happens ? Forgot I can just activate pre-installed SMS app so far, until this problem is fixed.
I lost this menu option after 9.0.0 update. Someone know how to getbthis back?
It looks like it's not possible to convert any app (or maybe just this) through Titanium Backup. Maybe the functionality is broken. Google Messages has been simple deactivated and that's why I couldn't find it on the application list in stock Settings app, though I tried to convert it, not deactivate. After activating it through TB (post nr. 2) I couldn't see the name of the Google Messages in applist anymore, it was stated as com.google.messages or something like that, with Google Framework icon and reset app settings. I've uninstalled this app through Settings and installed from Google Store from scratch and it's back to normal but it looks like TB is unable to do this operation.

Use Systemize, it's a module from Magisk.
I'll but it seems a little bit complicated or maybe I just need more time to read about it .
