[Q] battery drain on gsm signal

hi all
recently i have just calibrate my battery.. and it works just fine
but now i found that it drains alot quicker using 3g signal compared to wifi...
the drain rate can take 10% /hour on 3g and only 4% / hour for wifi
why is that ?
is there something wrong on my gsm ?
btw am using leedroid froyo 2.0c and using latest radio 32.47.xxx
pls some one can tell me.. what to do ??any clues on this ?
3G has more power drain than wifi so it's normal.

My 3G has always had higher power drain than WiFi. There isn't really anything you can do about it other than to turn it off. Alternatively you can disable "Always on Data" under Wireless & Networks => Mobile Networks

Disable automatic sync. My data networks are switched off since last week. Now my battery lasts 2-3 days. I only use wifi at home.
You can also use juicedefender to control battery use and sync intervals.

This can also be caused by low/patchy 3G coverage in areas you are in.
If the 3G signal is weak then the handset will use a lot of power to try and keep the signal, as it prefers it over 2G.
If you don't mind the slower data speeds, switch to 2G/GSM Only as this does not use as much power (due to 3G cell breathing - Google it )

One way to alleviate *some* of that is to set the phone to "GSM Auto (PRL)".
Go to dialer and dial "*#*#INFO#*#*". That should take you to the settings screen.

Definitely true. Your cell will consume much more power when you are outside of coverage area. The antena will keep searching the network according to your preference. So if you have 3G active all the time the phones internal antenna will keep looking for it and will drain your battery quicker.
okey..
thx all 4 d answers...
goo that to know there's nothing wrong with my signal or battery..
i think my problem is bad signal coverage.. as i always be in the shop which is so inside ....
but cant make it to edge/gsm as 2g speed is awful here in indonesia...
i think i'll just use juicedefender
thx..

Cell standby confusion

Hello all , fairly new to the Nexus , I've had it for a week and a half , stock jellybean , only a wifi device right now , waiting on my sim card to come in the mail to ditch my contract and go prepaid .
My question is about cell standby . Looking at my battery stats this morning , I'm at 53% batt. with over 25 hours up , very little use but still happy with life , but I see cell standby is 10% of my drain , which is a little confusing with no sim in the phone , but the really confusing part is that the details for cell standby say the time without a cell signal is 0% . In phone status the network is unknown and service state is out of service , so wouldn't that mean time without a signal should be 100% under cell standby ? I am getting a signal strength reading , so I'm thinking that reading sig. strength might fall under cell standby , but I'm not sure. Any insight would be appreciated . Thanks.
It will still use a signal even with no sim. This is how how make emergency phone calls. Which is still available without a sim. So it will still use battery.

The cell phone also has other processes at play at all times as well. Draining of the battery due to stand by isnt all that rare.

More Battery drain with both SIMs enabled? (same provider)

hey guys,
i wondered if its smart to leave both sim cards enabled all the time.
both sim cards are from the same provider. the second one i only use when i am out of mobile internet at the first card.
i guess with same cards from differnt providers there would be more battery drain because the phone has to connect to two different networks all the time, but when both sims are identical does it affect battery at all?
maybe i have some wrong thoughts here. thats why i am asking you.
thanks.
I think u r thinking right you can save some juice if u disable a sim or both. I generally keep phone on airplane mode at night with WiFi on. Drain is very good but in some days when I don't keep it in airplane mode drain is worse
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
yea, but i actually wanted to know if i can leave both sims enabled without any significant increase of the battery drain? assuming both sims are from the same provider.
The drain will all depend on the signal strength, good to average on both sims and you won't see much difference.

I suggest switching the sim you are not using for internet to 2g only you will experience a big difference

Question Australian Pixel 6 Pro users battery issues?

Hi anyone in OZ.
I have a Pixel 6 Pro on Telstra, and getting extreme network standby drain, by far the biggest % of total drain we are talking 1/4 to 1/2 the battery usage. Also noticing rubbish network signals and stability. To be fair on the phone my Pixel 4XL had signal issues on the train from Brisbane CBD to South side suburbs.
Anyone else on Telstra experiencing the same?
Anyone with other networks experencing the same, especially with 5G?
Trying to determine if my phone is a dud.
Interestingly my old Pixel 4XL doing the same as it was previously only on WIFI no mobile now lasts at least 2-3 days on the battery charge. Prior to sim being removed was lucky to last a full day.
No issues here matey. All good. I am with Vodafone 5G
Happy with my battery on optus

Same problem here on Telstra. Battery doesn't last a day.
Mobile standby is 20-25% whenever I look. Even if I'm on WiFi all day.
6 Pro on Telstra. Definitely noticed my 5G connection is nowhere near as good as it was on my previous phone, an Oppo Find X2 Pro.
Unfortunately I also feel bluetooth and wifi are not as good either
I am with Boost and I do see the mobile standby goes up if the phone is on idle. Like overnight, I can see in the two hour intervals that it's at 50%, but my standby drain is around 5% over 8 to 9 hours which is in line with my other phones in the past. This is with wifi on all night.
I would say the usage for the mobile standby is high because it's always connected to a network and that costs energy. I haven't done this but if you put it on airplane mode, the mobile standby should go to zero and probably the device idle or wifi will go up.
I'm with Belong, and I'm also getting a battery drain. 10-11 percent overnight. Mobile network standby is too high.
Not getting signal issues with Telstra, but have had the network standby drain issue... The latest (today) carrier services update on play store 'feels' to have improved it significantly... Though too early to tell if fixed
Those on Telstra is this the 'operator settings version' number you are all on?...

For me, yes, same operator version
I have terrible drain simialr to everyone else. Standby drain is horrendous on wifi. Around 50% deep sleep percentage when using the phone regularly. overnight deep sleep is good and drains about 1% an hr. On boost mobile. Today's update fixed jack all
No I am on .48 release date 2021-09-30.
I read a post about a new carrier services release today , which I updated to today straight after it updated the signal jumped up. Battery drain seems to be slightly better, but still garbage. Was hoping the december update would fix some issues, but definately didn't.Think I might take this phone back to Telstra for replacement
I turned off adaptive connectivity in network and internet settings, and mobile data always active in developers options. No drain.
I'm also on Telstra, battery drain at the moment is at 32% for `Mobile Network Standy`, I was in the CBD yesterday and 5G is allowed. In general my current area is not 5G enabled
My Operator Settings version is:

Yeah I had both of these settings enabled as well after reading some others feedback some time back, still extreme battery drain, now about 40%, so the carrier update helps signal strength but seems to make the drain worse.
