I'll be in the US in the summer, as a work and travel student. I'd like to know if it's possible to use this phone with 4g in US. Any US residents here that use Mi A2 Lite as their daily driver? Can you please elaborate if the mobile connection is good? Other than J1 SIMs what other provider do you suggest me to use? This will be my first time to US and I don't want to stay without connection to my loved ones. Thanks in advance!
I'm from Singapore and brought my Mi A2 Lite to SFO, LAX, NY, no issues with international roaming on this phone.
Yes. T-Mobile is excellent for 4G data in a city and along major highways. I am in Seattle and experience little to no issues. Calling is spotty because it won't use VoLTE and has a hard time establishing 2g/3g connection. ATT may be better depending on where you're going.
Works good on T-Mobile for me, sometimes spotty outside of big city though
yes, on cricket in nyc, have to say I have had a lot more drop calls than on my last samsung cell.
Still love the Mi A2 Lite, a whole lot of bang for the buck!

No AT&T 4G/LTE in North Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley), I ended up return the phone to Amazon
As without 4G/LTE MMS is too slow.

NYC based here but we travel a lot, domestic & abroad - no issues with T-Mobile 4G LTE with stock 9.0 Pie rom on A2 Lite. Major reason to go dual-sim is the extra option, 2nd. "local/home area" sim is on AT&T's 4G LTE/H+ network along the Northeast and when in Canada, Mexico, Caribbean & Bahamas or Bermuda - this works great with Google Fi (MNVO) too - except when the Fi network doesn't find a T-Mo or AT&T signal (Sprint's WCDMA is horrible, stay away) when in small towns & cities like up in remote areas of Maine & St. John, NB (Canada) as we just came back from a week-long cruise).
BTW, we also couldn't get Google Fi data (4G/HSPA+/3G) coverage in the same area above with my regular/primary Motorola Moto X4 on "Fi" channel ... spouse has no problems with her Moto G6.
Depending on your length of stay in the USA, T-Mobile prepaid has good options, also look at Straight Talk & Simple Mobile (also prepaid) as they use T-Mobile ... if you rather use AT&T prepaid, their prices aren't going to cost much more, maybe $5 USD extra per 30 days. Big cities, places like New York, Chicago or Los Angeles or San Francisco, coverage & difference are really not there at all.
Waiting for the AliExpress pre-sale shipment/delivery of a new Umidigi A5 Pro global dual-sim with more 4G/LTE bands, hopefully later this month, to see how it compare - specs are good ... delayed from 6/15 toward 6/25 but probably not till 7/1 or later.

So is the T-Mobile Note II better than the AT&T one? I know it has a better 3G radio with quad band 3G that does 42mbps rather than the AT&T one that only does 21mbps and is only tri-band. How feasible do you guys think it would be to buy a launch day Note II on contract, immediately sell it on eBay and buy a T-Mobile Note II for the same price?
Plausible if you expect to get $650+tax for the AT&T note.
Is T-Mobile's coverage that bad in your area? If T-Mobile has good coverage in your area then why not just go for T-Mobile? It would make sense to go for Verizon LTE services for the large coverage and high speeds even with the Verizon premium price. But for me it makes no sense in going to AT&T if you have good coverage with T-Mobile. Both the price and speed differences between T-Mobile vs AT&T itself would turn me to T-Mobile and away from AT&T. The only thing that AT&T beats T-mobile is having a larger coverage area. But otherwise there is no reason to go for AT&T.
I just think you are trying to go the long way around. Which is not making sense.

I'm on contract with AT&T for another year so I'd have pay cancellation fees and what not.
And the T-Mobile service isn't very good in my area at all.. atleast it wasn't a year and a half ago.
Not to hog the thread, but, would a T-mobile Note 2 (once unlocked obviously), work on atleast HSPA speeds on AT&T - im not really too bothered about LTE, though obviously don't want the tmobile phone restricted to EDGE on at&t like iphones 4s are on tmobile _ this situation is the reverse of that scenario.
?
I have an option to buy a T-Mobile one for relatively cheap off a colleague, but want to use it on AT&T as thats the contract I have and T-mob don't have great reception in my house!!.
I know the 4G LTE in the T-Mobile Note II is currently disabled but... once enabled would it work on AT&Ts 4G LTE?

If you don't care about LTE, then get the T-Mobile one as that has 42mbps HSPA as opposed to 21mbps of all other Note II versions and it's also pentaband too so it'll work pretty much anywhere around the world

Yes, the T-Mobile phone has AT&T's LTE bands too, although when it will get enabled is still a question
tmobile note 2 will get LTE when its available
it has hardware built in
I'm curious does the T-Mobile Note II use a normal sized SIM card or a Micro SIM?

I'm considering the Note2 on all carriers even the international model if Multi-View doesn't come soon but last weekend tested the Note2 in a T-Mobile store & was impressed by the SpeedTest of 20 ( +/- 2) Mbps down & ~ 2 Mbps up (store is in a well covered area) & Friday night I was with someone where I'd more frequently use the Note2 & tested the network down on her original Galaxy S still pulling down ~10 Mbps down (+/- 5 with avg ~ 8 Mbps down-streaming quality video was great which I can't currently do with my Sprint EVO except off their network here on Wi-Fi) & still ~ 2 Mbps up.
So far I like T-Mobile speeds & plans (reasonably priced unlimited option should I need it though I usually but not always have access to fast Wi-Fi) yet I'm concerned they don't have the same coverage as AT&T (I'll also speedtest AT&T locally this week) so was considering getting the Note2 on AT&T & if not satisfied ($300 + $325 ETF) go get service on T-Mobile with option to go back to AT&T should I move. What limitations besides the 21 Mbps HSPA+ would I have if I get the AT&T model which would also offer me LTE ~ 20 miles away?

Here's my experience with T-Mo on a car trip from the NW to Midwest. The data was non-existent except on cities & towns, I'd say over 10,000. Where a data signal was available it was typically very good. I didn't speed test my note 2, but likely =/- 10Mbps. In the NW (Seattle area) I find some rural areas with poor data signal. My daughters house is on the edge of a town with pop of about 5,000. I have to go outside to get a descent data signal while she gets good signal inside with AT&T.
Personally I'm very happy with my T-MO service. I've been with then for 10 years, but only about 2 that I've been concerned with data, whereas previously I used primarily wifi and now using predominately data.
Hope with gives you at least one useful perspective.

I will test to confirm but I think T-Mobile service will be faster on HSPA+ (LTE is 20 miles away & don't expect to get it here soon except for Verizon) & less expensive but I'm starting to suspect the potential for range anxiety (that people with electric cars often feel) when traveling out of metro areas hence consideration of AT&T model (which offers superior coverage as well as LTE in some markets now) to use on T-Mobile if possible?

I'm going to look into this further (the T-Mobile pamphlet they gave me last weekend still listed "America's Largest 4G Network) but I'm going to try to check it out again in a T-Mobile store now:
http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/t-mobile-drops-americas-largest-4g-network-claim/2012-07-18

"T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 is the 4G dark horse. It's really fast, covers a lot of the country, and is inexpensive. We found it to be faster than Verizon LTE for downloads in 11 cities (T-Mobile didn't win, though, because Verizon had much faster upload speeds.) Outside cities, where T-Mobile has coverage, it blew away other 3G networks. But that's the key: T-Mobile's truly rural coverage is slimmer than AT&T's or Verizon's."
I will be making a trip to India for business this summer and be going to New Delhi, Mumbai and maybe Pune? Of course I'll be taking my preventive shots but my main question is how wide is 4G available in India? I heard the 4G covergae is pretty spotty?

In India 4G is available in very select cities, last heard - Kolkata, Pune, Mohali and Bangaluru. Also, your phone would not be of much help here because till date it is without voice i.e. only data - at least we can only get a data pack with a 4G connection without any voice capabilities....
Pretty weird, but that's the way it is....
Also, only Bharti Airtel has this service at the moment.

Presently only Bharti Airtel provides 4G in India and that too in following cities - Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula & Ludhiana . Only 4G data is provided using Dongles.
For SmartPhones only IPhone 5s/5c are Supported by Bharti airtel that too only in Bangalore/Bengaluru.
Most of the 4G spectrum allocated last year or before that was Won by Reliance industries's RELIENCE JIO ,they have been conducting extensive Tests since last year throughout the country with 4G phones from Huawei and local india Handset manufacturers ,Considering the Huge Size and diversity of the country and the number of people They are slated to launch Nationwide 4G before this year End which has the potential to shake the whole Indian telecom industry as Relience has the money to provide 4g at reasonable price and challenge Airtel/Vodafone/Idea.
And about Gpro , Even if 4g was already there in India for Smrtphones I doubt it will work with our Gpro as INDIA/CHINA are following Different 4G Technology than the rest of the world, Soon You will find different variants of LTE phones launched for India/china region as the number that these two countries combined offer is just too huge to ignore , citing this LG have launched a 4G enabled version of their G2 for India just a month and half back Although it all depends on what bandwith Reliance Jio offers 4G in.

Hi guys, hope someone who has bought an s6 edge in full without contract from T-Mobile to use on AT&T can help me out.
My reason for doing this is the unlocked bootloader from the T-Mobile version of the s6 edge and that I like AT&T service more.
It seems like I will have to buy the s6 edge in full from T-Mobile, activate service with them, then wait 45 days to request unlock code, then unlock the phone and finally put in my existing AT&T sim.
Is there a method with less hassle? I rather not pay for 45 days of T-Mobile service that I don't need plus having to wait that long just to use it on AT&T. Wondering if I can somehow use a phone unlocking service and cancel the T-Mobile service right away to avoid any monthly service fees. Any successes?
Sent from my GT-I9100
Cellularunlocker.net has not worked for anyone as of yet but it is still early.
Also, if you become a business client it will be unlocked after 14 days after purchase.

As long as the phone is unlocked, the T-Mobile and AT&T variants should have the required frequencies for both HSPA and LTE to work in Italy.
Don't know if there is a other way. I've thought about just switching to tmobile but then I remembered how at my job I have almost no signal inside while cricket (at&t) maintains full signal of LTE without issues

we have wifi but its very unstable as its the guest wifi. at school i also have wifi but it's also unreliable because on average, there are bout 2K students hopping in and out of the wifi at any given moment. and i live in a wideband area so tmobile coverage is fantastic..its just once you step into them buildings. I just came from a tmobile mvno. Had tmobile coverage for 2 years.. in january i switched to cricket and in building coverage was like never before
I was thinking of doing the same also, but it looks like we're gonna have to wait
Since only the Sprint and T-Mobile variants can be bootloader unlocked, which has the best network?
T-Mobile for me, 3-4 bars LTE in the house out in the country. It really depends on your location..
Sprint's speed is terrible almost everywhere except my home, I have a tower a few hundred yards away. Work is down in a valley, I have zero reception, even though Sprints website says I should. I have never used T-mobile. Been with Sprint for 11 years now and we get zero benefits out of it, yet all the new customers do. But I think all carriers are like that?
T-Mobile + TMO variant is a must. Opting for this combo nets you an abundance of bands (2, 4, 5, 12, 46/LAA, 66, 252/255). Signal has been excellent for me indoors and outdoors, which isn't surprising given Moto's history with reception. With everything offered by this model I just don't see the point in buying any other carrier Z2.
But can I use a freedompop sim on the T-mobile version?
this site says no

It turns out that the xiaomi redmi note 8 pro I bought doesn't work here in the states (Hawaii) based on a lot of variables (bands mostly) and I'm seeing if any of these will be more compatible. My carrier is TMobile. I get text and voice no problem but data is incredibly slow and I absolutely need data. I don't care so much about voLTE. The specs on these phones and other Chinese phones I have had in the past are far more Superior to the more popular models in the states that are far more expensive so finding an 8gb ram model with a minimum of 128g for 300$ (what I paid for my redmi note 8 pro can be exchanged for these options listed below) would be ideal. but where do you live? maybe you live in a major city (new york city, los angeles etc) and so those bands are very strong.
I am making a new post because seems there isn't one here yet.. what s the best operator FOR the redmi? Across minor cities. Because not everyone lives in the top 4 cities in America.
Google Fi is expensive ($70+ for unlimited data) but how are your speed test? any missed calls?
If it's tmobile, you could use these:
Tmobile directly
CTExcel (china-based, but uses tmobile towers i believe)
Mint Mobile (prob best and should use tmobile)
AT&T
Cricket
H20 Wireless
after putting 2 sims in, in a small city (major 4th or 5th largest in entire state), the AT&T has near all full bars indoors as well as out. the Tmobile (simple mobile) has 2-3 indoors, and outdoors I haven't really noticed yet (less than 48 hours with this setup). Just writing to let you know there is hope. I wish I had boost, but simple is nice as it's unlimited and you can get it down to as low as $23 and some change a month. My AT&T is unlimited everything anyway so I keep the Simple at the lowest price point (still unlimited talk text AND hotspot as well as 5G access. What a deal).
So Tmobile would work. Simple. AT&T. I'm sure cricket.
