I'm not the only semi-noob out here. I'm sure not many of us fully understand the consequences of having an XZL that won't let you unlock the bootloader. So...
If you cannot unlock your bootloader, what are the ramifications? Will the number of available custom roms be fewer? Can we have no custom roms at all?
Also, how can you ensure that you get an unlockable phone. I'm in canada, if I order the XZL through Bell, am I 100% certain to get a phone that wont let you unlock the bootloader? Do I have to buy the full thing off contract if i want an unlockable bootloader?

even if you buy the phone from bell off contract the bootloader will still be locked
i live in toronto and ordered the zl online and i already have unlocked my bootloader
as for roms there are some that can still work but yes it limits the customization that you can acheive with an unlocked bootloader

Hi,
i wan't to know if you may know why there are only few dev or kernel/roms for the LG G3 even if from what i've noticed the G3 is very popular?
P.S. I've seesn right now that the bootloader is locked, i don't know what does it mean exacltly but it seems to stop dev's, but aren't out there unoffical bootloader unlocking methods?
Unfortunately, LG didn't provided any official method to unlock bootloader. Developers are spending dozens of hours every day to find a bug and unlock bootloader using it. If you have locked bootloader then you cant flash any custom ROM like CM11 etc.

I hate LG for making such a perfect device that you even not hack, they're cruel, and maybe masochists because the avalibility of custom roms and customization of a device is one of the android's best features, so if the device would be unlocked it will increase their sales.
Hi, I'm looking to purchase a H812 Canadian LG G4 and I'm wondering if I would be able to use H815 or H811 roms on the H812? I looked into the android development section and there isnt a single rom built specifically for H812..
No
At the moment there are only roms for those cause they are the only ones with unlocked bootloaders that I know of also there aren't roms for any of the US variants because locked bootloader

Is there news of the bootloader getting unlocked in the near future for 812? Also does that also mean ROOT is not possible on 812?
$%#% me, get a H812 and only the H815 has unlocked bootloader. Why do the canadian variants always get shafted.
I knew the 0 dollar 2 year contract was too good to be true. I can live without custom roms for a while(please get twrp on it when possible)
but no root using an easy app. ughhhh....... really?!!!!
I hope they get on the move with a root method such as towelroot.
Any news on unlocked bootloader?

You can root the H812. See this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/canadian-guide-complete-source-lg-g4-t3212449
Follow instructions on the root threads as you will have root. Extremely simple.
Doubt you will ever see an unlocked bootloader unfortunately

A bypassed bootloader would be fine aswell
I saw an international version of the ZIP package coming out. OTA cannot be upgraded directly.
What should I do?
thanks.
I prefer to FLASHthe Xiaomi International Edition ROM, which will retain more of Xiaomi's features.

Unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash the global zip mentioned several times in the forum. Better with EU chinese ROM as more features than global

Thank you, but I saw the EU version of the ROM, can not re-lock the bootloader, do not know if there will be anything bad.

Correct. If you try and lock the bootloader on the EU Chinese ROM or Global it's good bye phone.
If you don't unlock bootloader you'll be stuck on the Chinese ROM forever.

No. I've had an unlocked bootloader for about the last ten years.

Well what? If they want to lock the bootloader they can lock the bootloader.
That doesn't answer why! if it bricks the phone it might be useful to understand the process a bit fuller. I'm buying the Chinese version myself so want to be aware of why you'd want to lock the bootloader again

Return to stock, to sell, improve security, warranty etc
You'll only brick it if you install and lock the global ROM on a Chinese device, Chinese rom on a global device, or lock on the Chinese EU ROM
Cool. So if I get the Chinese one I'll put the EU one on.
I don't think I'd need to worry about locking the bootloader for a long time. I want this phone to last a few years and it seems reliable enough. And the processes will improve all the time.
Thanks!

Locking the bootloader is for certain applications and features that requires a more "secure" phone, since an unlocked bootloader is considered not "secure".
Payment Applications, Banking Applications, and DRM applications (Netflix) and such requires the phone to have a locked bootloader, or it will not work.

Are you forgetting Magisk? I'm unlocked since surviving 72 hours of stock locked hell. All my banking apps and Google pay have worked for the past 2 months.
BTW stock Chinese or Dev or Global are garbage compared to the EU version anyways.

if its the 960f, then yes. it should be
Exynos - Yes, just enable OEM unlock in developer options, this will wipe the phone, there are instructions to make the process less of a pain if you read the dev threads
Snapdragon - No (Other than a couple of Chinese variants)
