Android is Starting Screen..again? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My T800 is totally stock. With the V6.01 of Android. Not even rooted. Now all of a sudden, after many years, is see this:

I know which app is causing it. The questions are:
1) What part of Android does this and can it be disabled?
2) Is this an issue the apps developer needs to address if I can't do #1?
This is the only app I have found that causes this. But I have read about others that can do it but there seems to be no definitive answer to fix it. I tried everything, even a factory reset and each time I install this one app it starts again. I really like the app too.

My stock T800 starts that way on rare occasions and have not been able to determine the cause. I've factory reset to no avail. I don't have the app you linked installed so I'm not sure what's causing it. I was hoping I did so at least I'd know. Hopefully someone can chime in and provide some insight.

Yes it seems, from what i've read all over the internet, it's not one particular app. Just would like to be able to disable the app that is actually causing the trouble. Don't know what it is. Just hope it's not the core android OS.

Android is starting is the behavior after delvic cache is wiped I believe. Perhaps there is an issue with the cache partition or an app is having difficulty writing to the partition. Just guessing at this point.

Best answer I have yet . Which makes me think the developer might be doing something wrong. Yeah, maybe his app doesn't bother 99% of the devices out here but all it takes is 1% to give your app a bad rap.
Especially when someone has paid to support it.

This is the answer I got in email from the developer today..
"Sorry but this really isn't something I can control... Android is in charge of optimizing your apps, if it finds something that it needs to optimize, it will run. How long does it take?
There is nothing that I know of that I can do to change this. It is a system level process. This app optimization process has been around since Android 5.0, when Google changed to the ART runtime."
So I guess that's that...I was hoping he would give me a clue as to what android app is actually doing the work....maybe I could disable it.

In better battery stats, what is *overflow*

My nexus is getting absolutely killed battery wise, and the partial wakelock is mostly with this *overflow* service/process. Does anyone know what it does and how to get rid of it?
Nobody knows?
Maybe an app you've installed? Look for it on settings. It should be there.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Type "overflow betterbatterystats" into google and the second and third links may help you.
They are talking about an app causing it but I'll leave you read it yourself.
Yep I did the google thing. nobody really knows.

Try eliminate apps one by one.
Freeze one, see if it is the cause, if not then move on to the next.

Afraid so.
But at least in the future when someone searches for overflow your solution will be there for them! Good deed for the day!
Did you get anywhere with this? It looks like I'm having the same issue too. I've only got a few apps installed on many sgs 3.
ics browser +
Spotify
G strings (music tuner)
Color note
Beautiful widgets.
Thanks.
Same here. I get this issue from time to time with my galaxy nexus. I have to reboot to get it to go away.
Ist it possible that lightflow is The Bad app .
It will logical. Cause the wakelocks are everytime when a message is coming in lightly send a command to the light notification to go on.
I think that's the app in my wakelocks.
I ll try it out.
I have the same entry with overflow on my galaxy s3. but from the list 3 posts up I only habe Beautiful widgets installed. and many other apps. I haven't installed lightflow.

I've not had this return after removing beautiful widgets. My only other offender for random high battery usage is a gtalk process, which I understand is related to google sync rather than the app itself (which has since been removed).
today I have the "overflow" process since many days back. The last weeks I had not this issue. Today I updated many apps in the market and remove "google googles".
And now, there it is. the "overflow" process is back.
Beautiful widgets is no more on my phone. I use now fancy widgets and many other programs.
I think this is a sporadic problem. I reboot my phone and looks forward.
Reboot doesn't help to remove :crying:
Why the hell the process is back.
i have the same with S3, any updates ?
not on my side.
the android 4.1 is out. but at this time only on kies. I have'nt try it out. but i think it is an user installed application that goes to "overflow"
it looks like the battery live time is the same without the overflow, so i ignore it
Have you tried posting here?

I'm fairly convinced it was Beautiful Widgets causing my problem.
I also found Samsung Sync was an offender for increased battery usage, disabling it has increased battery life from 2 and a bit days to 3 and a bit.

When I press my power button while the phone is charging I see this. When I click the setting icon in top right I'm given the option to turn it off but I would rather just remove it completely. It doesn't have any identifying information so I don't know what's causing this. I've try a few adware/malware apps that aren't telling me anything.
Can anyone help?
This is what I see when I press the setting icon
Have you installed any apps recently? I'd start there. It probably asked for some permissions, such as notification access, so if you see anything unusual in there that could be it.

I need to try delete more apps...
Its your keyboard-app. I bet you are using TouchPal.
It was the same for me. Touchpal is one of the greatest keyboard-apps IMHO, but lately they changed in the wrong direction with unwanted ads like 'Daily Summary' or 'Charging Lock Screen' or 'AppLock'.
I uninstalled it because of that.
Or the ES File Explorer app that recently admitted to presenting Ads in the lock screen.

This is exactly what it is. You can disable this from within this app.
Also, of rooted, use AdAway.

You must have photo editor pro installed. I had the same issue and read up on it and someone mentioned that they isolated the cause and uninstalled that app and it got rid of that adware lock screen.
It worked for me. Try it.

Yea. This was it. I forgot to update the thread
There was an article at AP a week ago about that
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...sion-of-lock-screen-adware-in-the-play-store/
There is a link to a spreadsheet in the article that contains list of apps that add this adware to your lockscreen without asking...

Just curious because I haven't read up on what apps caused this annoying problem but who kept the photo editor app installed?
I liked that app and it really sucks t nuts that I had to uninstall it.
If I remember correctly, there was an option to simply turn off that lock screen adware, right?
But mainly, who kept the app(s) causing this issue? It'd be nice to know if anyone did and if this was a serious issue (which I doubt) or should i have read this entire thread plus the article before posting this?

Try Snapseed, Google acquired it because it was considered the best free photo editing app.
No point using an app that has that lock screen adware. They deserve to be removed from the Play Store for violating the rules of displaying ads outside of their own app.

Turning off Bluetooth stopped the WakeLock. Running a few tests to see if is related to Android Wear.

Don't know if it's diagnostics.client.wakelock for sure, but having Android System drain, and doing some testing to see if it's Android Wear as well.

Still having issues with the particular Wakelock, ever tried ODIN flash back to Lollipop, Factory Reset/Delete Cache and then upgraded back to Mashmallow (Didn't do a Factory Rest or Delete Cache the first time I upgraded).
I created a new how to post here to show detailed process stats. Maybe someone else is having a similar issue and will have some idea on how to fix it.
What little information I have been able to dig up about 'diagnostics.client.wakelock' it appears to be a CarrierIQ issue. Which just really adds salt to the wound.

I generally opt out of any of that sort of stuff. Is there a way to Opt back in? Possibly could fix the issue.
Also updated to the newest release PE6 and am still seeing the same Wakelock.

I usually opt out as well.
I went into GSam, under App Usage, selected Android System. Then Manage, DiagMonAgent and force stopped it, and wakelocks have decreased dramatically for me (I also force stopped tuiService). Before it was being held awake about 90% of the time. I did this about 19 hrs ago, and it's only showing about 1 hr of wakelock. Of course, would have to do this after every reboot, if not more frequently.
I see both DiagMonAgent and tuiService in Disabler pro - can't you just disable them there? I'll try this and see if I notice any differences.
I have tried everything. It gets under control for maybe a half day then goes off again.

Sorry you're still having this problem. Only one other person (in this thread) seems to have reported having it too.
Does the problem occur after a factory reset even before you install any third-party apps?

Yep, appears before any 3rd party apps are installed. Tried several Factory Resets nothing seems to work.
I'm pretty sure the "diagandroid.iqd" process (Carrier IQ) is causing this. You can see it if you go into "Running services" then tap on "Android System". I haven't found any way to disable it.
By the way, regarding my previous wakelock problem cause by the CVS app: the app is now updated and no longer prevents the phone from deep-sleeping even when the app's in-store (BT-beacon) notifications are enabled.

That's weird ?
I haven't this issue, maybe it's an app which is responsible for that. Go to the developer options and search for "memory" or "Running services". There you will find the apps which are running in the background and it will show you how much memory it need.
If you can't solve your problem a Hard-Reset might work. I think it's a software problem because my phone works very stable with Pie and without such memory problems.

Have you checked battery optimize and modify draw over apps etc settings?
I have the same damn problem with multitasking... Tried everything, went through all battery settings, developer's settings and such. Tried every option. Multitasking is simply impossible on Mi A2 Lite (Pie 9.0). Apps turns off instantly after I leave them. Optimization for each app is turned off, Adaptable battery turned off, Battery saver turned off, also. Nothing helps; So sad, and it seems there is no solution for this.
Xiaomi is famous for theirs memory management algorithms. They are too aggressive, leading to premature app killing.

Question Phone reset...should I?

Helloe
Since I bought the phone, the reminder subfunction of the Google calendar app doesn't work. I get reminded of events but not of reminders that I add. Other users jave reported it as well, but we haven't found a solution.
OnePlus support recommended this
"Please try reset options this will not erase data. If you only want to clear app data and restore your device to factory settings without losing the data stored in the internal storage, choose the Reset all settings option in the Reset phone menu instead of the Erase all data option."
With a perfectly working daily driver phone that's rooted and otherwise working fine, should I follow their suggestion?
Does root get wiped? Will I have to reinstall my apps?
Thanks
Try clearing just that apps data. Maybe use another calendar app if that doesn't work.
Google apps are a pain. Constant firmware and software upgrades/updates just mean more of your time spent trying to learn and troubleshoot them. Gookill is a mess.

If you can uninstall then reinstall it try that. Check it's permissions and if it's able to run in the background. A Google search may give you more solutions; doesn't have to be that model or even brand as the same issues tend to happen on many different Androids.
If that's the only problem I would find another app to replace it. Not worth screwing up a good load over one insignificant app.
I use as little Google apps as possible. I use the native Samsung calendar instead. I use Gmail and Gmaps but Gmaps is a mess.

You have a valid point about not reseting over 1 app. Thanks
Blackhawks fan? Or you like the helicopter?

Indian warrior actually.
"It has pleased the Great Spirit that I am here today— I have eaten with my white friends. The earth is our mother— we are now on it, with the Great spirit above us; it is good. I hope we are all friends here. A few winters ago I was fighting against you. I did wrong, perhaps, but that is past—it is buried—let it be forgotten.
Rock River was a beautiful country. I liked my towns, my cornfields and the home of my people. I fought for it. It is now yours. Keep it as we did— it will produce you good crops.
I thank the Great Spirit that I am now friendly with my white brethren. We are here together, we have eaten together; we are friends; it is his wish and mine. I thank you for your friendship.
I was once a great warrior; I am now poor. Keokuk has been the cause of my present situation; but I do not attach blame to him. I am now old. I have looked upon the Mississippi since I have been a child. I love the great river. I have dwelt upon its banks from the time I was an infant. I look upon it now. I shake hands with you, and as it is my wish, I hope you are my friends.

This is what I get when I try to uninstall it using titanium backup.
That's interesting as it's not even present on my Samsung. With root permissions I would think you could uninstall it. However it may have dependencies.
Again I would bypass it by using another calendar app to replace it.
