If you receive a notification from the app that you want the indicator for, it will show in the list of apps IF it can use the LED ring.
I know it's frustrating, but as your apps notify and trickle in, then you can change the notification color.
There's a thread in the S10 forum: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s10/themes/app-holey-light-t3917675

Be cautious enabling AoD. There's a well known bug where the proximity sensor isn't used outside of calls and AoD can frequently activate in your pocket, as well as opening up to the lockscreen, both of which drain your battery. Hopefully Samsung can fix the proximity sensor and pocket detection and then AoD can be enjoyed in all it's glory again.

Yeah that bug SUCKS! The only way I have found to not wake my phone in my pocket is disable AOD, and raise to wake. I haven't set it off once (that I know of) using just double tap to wake.
Chainfire put out a app tonight that once you setup your AOD you can turn it off and Holey Light still works. I was using AOE until tonight with the release of the helper app. The bad thing with AOE is you can't use your fingerprint from the all black screen but with the helper app and Holey Light your fingerprint works.
Here is the post with the helper app. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79317643&postcount=481
I know it's still very early beta but you can't select which apps?

I disabled double tap to wake as well cuz I've grown use to being very battery cautious from using a Nexus 6P with a failing battery. Still I was pretty annoyed about having to disable all those settings to keep the screen off in my pocket until I learned touching the fingerprint reader still works with the display completely off. At the very least, there is a little silver lining there.
And thanks for the info about the helper app, notification ring with screen off sounds pretty appealing since I've been using the stupid camera led flash setting with Tasker profiles to disable it with screen on and also disable it when in my car AND on the cars wireless charger, that way I don't bother other drivers.

Nvm I see it now in the holey light app
What is again purpose of this app when it doesn't work until u wake/unlock phone?Than i already see if i have notification, i want it to light up on desk without me touching it, which is the real purpose of notification led on phones.

AOD uses very little battery. It's designed to run all the time. It has very little impact on battery life across a whole day of use.

I'm not sure if you understand how it works. It does work without having to wake the device. It runs on the AOD. If you have AOD set to be always on, then the notification light will be always on.

Well i disable AOD coz its always on in pocket and does stupid things, drains battery, and getting that expended clock all the time which i need to swipe before i can even unlock phone.
Damn, hope Samsung fixes pocket detection soon, well, also adds native notification led replacement.
Will the app work while the screen is off if AOD is set to touch to activate?

Yes and no, if you have touch to show then you will only see the notification "led" when you wake it up.
Now if you use the helper app set your AOD to always show and then use this AOD theme without the clock http://apps.samsung.com/theme/ProductDetail.as?appId=minuhome.Starlight.aodonly&SITE_CODE=us
and set double tap to wake then when you receive a notification your lock screen comes on for a few seconds like normal then goes black with the notification "led" running untill you open your phone.
If you were to use my phone it works just like AOD is off, even in my settings AOD is turned off because the helper app now controls it.

Fix stuck apps on 14322:
1. Start downloading any new app from Store.
2. Pause all
3. Resume all
Now the stuck apps should pretend to download and disappear from all apps list.
After a few tweaks, 14322/640XL is amazing for me.
The new Glance looks better than the old one and even shows lock screen text notifications, which I never had before. It only appears 10% of the time though, so I use the old Glance now.
Have you found Glance or other fixes and tweaks for this build?

Thanks for the fix, it was really annoying to have all the time pending app. But battery life sucks in this build and proximity senosor doesn't work, which causes auto brightness not working, and for the same reason glance screen won't show if I hoover with my hand over the phone, when screen is off.
In my experience worst build I have installed from fast insider ring, but I didn't try them all . But I know this is fast ring so bugs are always there
The tip is working flawless. Quite curious.

It do use the prox sensor but only will update on EVERY clock "minute" change... Yes, I totally agree - this is a frustrating 'update' that feels like going backward. It's great that now picking up the phone turns on the ambient display - but when the ambient display is showing, why can't I touch to interact with the notifications? Now I need to 1) pick up the phone, 2) double tap to wake, and 3) touch the notification. This adds a NEW step #2, which in addition to being annoying also hurts battery life. Why can't I just lift the screen to turn on ambient display and then interact with the notifications like previously without having to wake the phone? I used this feature multiple times per day; now I want to downgrade to the previous version!

This new system let you use off screen gestures, because in old when this ambient display appear you have to wake and re turnoff screen for use off screen gestures. Just use the power button for intereact with your notification

Yes it a differents usages, i understand your frustrations but in Oreo ambient display work like this but notification text disappear to just let an icon..
No I like the current ambient display. Interactive ambient display ruins the purpose of "ambient display" which is just to show time and notification. People will be more cautious of touching the screen if touchable and lots of mis click when put top side up in pocket
Just wish the hours will always be red instead of just "1"

I used the interactive display with the One Plus 3 and NEVER had any misclicks in my pocket. But I DID use the functionality of interactive ambient display notifications MANY TIMES PER DAY. It's particularly useful for music. You can pause/play music from the google play notification in the ambient display without unlocking the phone. I still don't understand how it is better at all to not have the interactions be interactive?

Even if this is the way it is done in Oreo, the One Plus runs OxygenOS for a reason - to be able to customize/add features.
Please bring it back, at least have an option in the settings to toggle it on/off.

Hi all. New on this phone, I've searched for this but could not find, so maybe someone here could help me. Is there a gesture to quickly turn off screen (had a gesture on my old nexus that was double tapping home button)?
Thanks in advance!
You could try 'Edge sense plus' (check the play store) to use the squeeze function to turn off the screen instead of launching the assistant. Personally I use nova launcher and swipe up to turn off the screen.
I'm sure there are other alternatives as well, but that's my 2 cents

Is that the app that costs 1,77? Wich are the possible gestures for screen off?
Do you have the possibility to use the fingerprint sensor to turn screen off?
Thanks!
Yeah it does cost some money but I can't remember exactly how much. There is a native screen lock option for Android 9+ and I don't think there is any fingerprint gesture. It's primarily for the edges of your screen.

You could try turning on accessibility menu in the accessibility settings if you don't mind having a small icon to the right of the pill at the bottom of the screen. When you click it, there are several options given and lock screen is one. It's not a simple gesture swipe or a simple double tap but it may be an option.

Tried that, and it works, it appears a person button, and when you press it, it gives a lot of options, and the lock screen is one of them. I will keep using until a easier solution if found. I can not believe android will not include a gesture option for this by default.
I hate to have to press a button to lock the screen, they end up breaking/wearing so fast.
Thanks all for your responses, and other solutions are welcome. Cheers! :good:

Check this widget out. It is invisible and adds double tap to lock functionality to any launcher.

Works without root in Android P or with root in Oreo and lower. In both cases, fingerprint unlocking works afterwards.

Introducing Pixel Pulse - a simple app to make your Ambient Display pulse when you have notifications!
Choose the interval and select the apps you want you to cause your screen to wake.
Optional paid features let you select different icons and colors for specific apps but the interval and app filter core functionality is all free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

Paid customization adds the ability to always pulse (with a view that shows you that you have no important notifications), and the ability to select icons and colors for specific applications.
Screenshots are difficult because you can't screenshot the ambient display. I'll need to try and take actual photographs.
Seems like the settings don't save. Just updated the app and everything is set to pulse even though I removed some stuff :S

I can certainly add that option

Paid customization adds the ability to always pulse (with a view that shows you that you have no important notifications), and the ability to select icons and colors for specific applications.
Screenshots are difficult because you can't screenshot the ambient display. I'll need to try and take actual photographs.

I just "bought you a snack" - thanks for the hard work!
bought you a beer \w/
I must be doing something wrong. This doesn't seem to do anything when I receive a notification with the screen off and having AOD on or off. I have the time turned down to 10 second but nothing even pulses.

You want always on display to be off but you want wake on new notifications to be on.

Thanks, I bought you a beer. Changing the time internal doesn't seem to work. I've tried 30 seconds and it's only 5 before it pulses again. Same thing with any other time I try, it pulses after only 5 seconds.

Yea, that's a bug. I'll be working on that tonight
Nice. Bought the app.
Idea: always pulse when charging (no timeout)
Thanks for the cool app

The update somewhat fixed the timing issue but it still is off by 5 seconds. When setting the internal to 20 seconds it pulses after 15 seconds.
Edit: It seems that the timer starts when the notification pops up not when the notification disappears. Is this the way it is intended to work?

Yes, I have not having a visual confirmation that my phone is charging. Cables come loose sometimes and you'd never know without an LED.

Yes currently its a start to start time but if everyone thinks it makes more sense to time finish to start I can modify it.

I'll add that to the list! Hopefully tonight but certainly this weekend.
So, i'm coming from a 6 and not having a notification LED sucks. Do you guys use any app for simulating a LED? If there was a way to put a tiny green blinking circle in the bottom, that would be awsome.
Thanks in advance.

I got my 7T yesterday was wondering the same thing, given that it's been a cornerstone of most every phone I've owned. So I did some searching around and found this, which seems to be working great, and is developed by an XDA member.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xander.android.notifybuddy
There is a thread about it here:

Using it now. It evens allows to put the light wherever we want. On my car, i only see the bottom of the phone.
Looks great so far!
Although "Notify Buddy" is a very nice app and works on Oneplus 7T i found out that it has a quiet high battery consumption. There are two other apps, that worked fine for OP 6T:
"Plus Beat"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vaf.vishal.plusbeat
"Pixel Pulse"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
They both need a workaround to be usefull on OP 7T:
- notification change to "important"
- enable popup on lockscreen
- disable "stealth mode" in app
Under this circumstandes they work fine!
Have fun with your new Oneplus!

Yup, unsinstalled notify buddy precisely for that, wasting too much battery.
I have pulse beat here, but doesn't seem to work. Going to disable stealth mode. And enable it on lockscreen. O7t here.

ok I got it to work. But it seems like everytime it pulses the fingerprint scanner is there as well. For 1 thing its too bright, 2nd i'm concerned about battery life and burn in. What can we do with this?

Any idea on my question above regarding the fingerprint scanner?

I dont know another way. battery life is okay with plus beat, burn in depends on the frequency and time...
have a nice day!
Plus beat is much more battery friendly than nottify buddy.
There is no way to sey PB notifications to important, at least i don't see it. Android 10 on 7t here. But ir's working good with stealth mode disabled.
Not quite the same.. But I use an app called Glimpse, works perfectly for me, it lights the screen up when a notification comes In, I set mine to light the screen up for 30 seconds, gives me chance to read it unlike the oneplus light up screen setting which lasts for 8 seconds.
you can select apps for notifications.
you can set screen on time and you can set it to repeat alert until checked based on a time setting...
The app is light on background battery usage.
The app is also well supported on the Xda forums...
Couple of tips, turn off the built in oneplus light up screen setting or Glimpse will not work correctly.
Also consider turning off optimisation in the battery settings and locking the app, so that android does not close it down in the background.
The app is free and ad free from the Google store.

I also use a xiaomi Mi band 4 with my oneplus 7t, I set my phone to silent, use the mii band app to send the watch notifications, via vibration from my selected apps, sooooo much better than the phone beeping loudly, it disturbs nobody, more zen like... Plus the Mi band 4 is low cost, very long battery life, Amoled screen, works wonderfully...
Plus the notification message can be partially seen on the Mi band.
Looks interesting. For now, plus beat does the job, but i would like for it to stop showing notifications after you see them in the status bar.
