Introducing Pixel Pulse - a simple app to make your Ambient Display pulse when you have notifications!
Choose the interval and select the apps you want you to cause your screen to wake.
Optional paid features let you select different icons and colors for specific apps but the interval and app filter core functionality is all free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

Thanks for the app, I just installed it and gonna test it out.
Maybe you could share some screenshots of when it is working and the paid features (I was thinking of paying but wanted to check what the features we're before).
I'll report if I find anything

Paid customization adds the ability to always pulse (with a view that shows you that you have no important notifications), and the ability to select icons and colors for specific applications.
Screenshots are difficult because you can't screenshot the ambient display. I'll need to try and take actual photographs.
Seems like the settings don't save. Just updated the app and everything is set to pulse even though I removed some stuff :S

This is awesome. But is there a way you can maybe make the icon only pulse and be custom colors? Without showing the actual notification text? That would be amazing! But bought the paid one and I am using it now looks good on the wireless charger. :good:

I must be doing something wrong. This doesn't seem to do anything when I receive a notification with the screen off and having AOD on or off. I have the time turned down to 10 second but nothing even pulses.

Thanks, I bought you a beer. Changing the time internal doesn't seem to work. I've tried 30 seconds and it's only 5 before it pulses again. Same thing with any other time I try, it pulses after only 5 seconds.

The update somewhat fixed the timing issue but it still is off by 5 seconds. When setting the internal to 20 seconds it pulses after 15 seconds.
Edit: It seems that the timer starts when the notification pops up not when the notification disappears. Is this the way it is intended to work?

Yes, I have not having a visual confirmation that my phone is charging. Cables come loose sometimes and you'd never know without an LED.

I was bumbed when I found out we didn't get a torch light quick toggle with the MM update so I was experimenting with Quickpanel Manager and was able to get the torch light added to the quick toggle.
You will need this app https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...CBswAA&usg=AFQjCNGIcV23vu9vHzYdI8LtOwFLToPCWQ[/url]
After installation you have to click on Edit. For some reason the app doesn't display the icons but it doesn't matter. Due to the toggle drawer only able to hold 16 icons you have to sacrifice one by removing the the name of the one you do not want. Then you have to type the word( ;TorchLight in the location you want it to show up because you cannot edit it's location as the icon will be blanked out in the Samsung Settings. Be careful because you can remove toggles at will. No need to reboot takes effect instantly once you press Save.
You can now enjoy your torch light without using an app or the widget!
Edit: Appears on 5.1.1 after a reboot toggles disappear. On 6.0.1 seems to be working fine. I was also able to add WiFi Hotspot, Mobile Data and Air View. All functioning and sticking after reboot.
Problem is it doesn't survive a reboot, and even when going back from Ultra Savings mode.

That is, in fact, odd. But it's okay, it's not like I reboot my phone every day. Besides, it only takes a about a minute or two to get your settings back.
Yeah, sorry bro.
One other thing that I was curious was if you placed it in your immediate 10 user toggles like I have mine and not down in the extended menu? Didn't know if that made a difference. Because when I had the original 16 it wouldn't let me add the torch light. So then I deleted Dormant Mode (do not disturb mode) and the torch light showed up. But when I went to move it in the settings menu I wasn't able to. So then I figured I would just place it where I wanted. I was able to add back the Dormant mode that I originally deleted on the end so now I have 17 toggles. Strange.....

That's MM right? Well, mine never did survive reboots, and it doesn't matter that much. I only reboot my phone like once every two weeks or so, and it doesn't take longer than two minutes to add the toggles back.
Install good lock from samsung.. If its not available in your region do what i did and google for it. It will give you a better looking notification bar plus a torch icon and some other useful toggles that are not available in stock
What about the latest Alpha? Do we get Torch Light and Mobile Data quick toggles as default?
If you guys using Nova launcher, You can make a shortcut on the screen for the light without any other app.
Hello,
I'm S7E happy user but I just purchased OP3 for my girlfriend. Can I ask for few things, here?
- Alarm- is any way when home button pressed deactivate alarm in the morning? When she pick up phone in the morning while alarm ring accidentally she touch home button and then unlock the phone. and then takes ages to turn the annoying alarm off.
- Scheduled DO NOT DISTURB- I just cannot believe phones without this function still exist- what to do?
- Change system font- is it missing or I'm blind?
- DPI, any way for changing it without the root? Everything looks like has been made for DISABLE, blind 80y old person. It is JUST MASSIVELY HUGE.
- Nova's Tesla unread count badge is not working for FB messenger
- Pickup call- is any way of swapping annoying swipe to answer for just click icon or similar? When phone or finger cold there is no way of answering incoming call.
- What is the best browser with adblock (needs to be easy to temporary turn it off) and sync with google?
Thank you for all your replies.
- Not that i know off.
- Scheduled Do not disturb is a missing feature, but again we have a notification slider.
- Its missing indeed.
- Nope, but it takes 7 min to Rlroot and u dont void warranty.
- idk
- Not that i know off. Never had a issue with not beeing able to pick a call up in cold weather.
- I personally use chrome with this. With root it works better.

I absolutly have no problem with my currently 420 DPI. If you are going to buy it i recommend using Freedom OS. Its basicly OxygenOS with a little bit more features such as: Adblocker, DPI etc.
No need to root you can use adb to change the dpi on the fly
yubrowser from the playstore is really good with built in ad blocking
The other ones like others have said cannot be changed afaik.
NetGuard works via the VPN API and doesn't require root/xposed/unlocked BL and works with any browser

You can't. Home button- fingerprint unlocking your phone, alarm ringing like crazy and you have to go to notifications to turn it off. What a mess in the morning. iPhone alarm just stop when home pressed.
You can get scheduled DND functionality using an app. I use Silence Premium but they have a free version also.
Edit: Note that Google includes scheduled and other nice DND functions in stock Android but OnePlus delete this functionality from OxygenOS even though it is essentially stock Android. They delete it because they are too lazy to think about accommodating it with their hardware slider even though other manufacturers do it, most notably Apple.
Super. Silence premium do the job. Thank you.

I don't own an iPhone so no idea but Silience Premium on the OnePlus 3 works exactly how I would expect. I.e. the slider always has priority. In the normal position the software can set priority mode on/off but the slider always sets it on if set and sets it off if toggled etc. When the app sets priority on the indicator goes on just like the slider so it is a true system setting thus we know that the stock DND could do it as well. I just don't understand why this simple and obvious behavior wasn't adopted by the OP design team.

I assumed it was just a separator between the phone's info (time, date, etc) and the notifications? I guess you need to find someone who has the weather enabled (I don't) to see if it's still there. I'm guessing it is.

The line is a seperator on ambient display, the pics in the link you quoted are the lockscreen, not ambient display.
the weather on ambient display appears to the right of the date just as it does on homescreen.
remember ambient display is an all black screen.
And yes, it also does appear on the lockscreen, in the same format: date - weather
Seems some people have it, others dont.

Forcing us to pick up our phone just to see if we have any notifications is just uncalled for.
I want to check my phone when I want to, not because I have to.
I've tried pretty much every alternative out there -- they either didnt work how i wanted, or were just too ugly how they displayed the info.
Welp, enough rambling. Let me get to the point.
Lets us all give a round of applause to @grokus,
for providing us non-led'ers a true solution in the hell storm that has been created over this whole ordeal :victory:
He's been taking suggestions on what to include as well!
Behold, "Pixel Pulse"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
Description:
- Pixel Pulse uses the systems ambient display, in a VERY minimal, clean, efficient, time interval approach, to display whatever app you want to 'pop up'
- Pixel Pulse will 'cycle through' each app if multiple notifications are present
- Notifications can either be displayed as; icon only, icon + app name, icon + notification title, icon + title + content, or a mixture of all three depending on the app(s) you choose.
- Color choices, and more
How to use:
- Must have Ambient Display enabled. - (I just have the 'tap to touch' slider on).
- Have 'New Notifications' (Inside Ambient Display settings) enabled. - (This just allows Pixel Pulse to take over how to display the notifications).
- Battery Optimization (for this app) disabled. - (So the system continues the run the app without shutting the app down) ---- Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization > Pixel Pulse app > Don't Optimize.
- Go back into the app, set everything up as you like; colors, the time interval between pulses, what apps to display, how to display, etc
Going a Step Further:
- Once you have everything enabled you will be greeted with a persistent notification that displays "Pixel Pulse is Running". This notification will be present at ALL times; pulsing like a notification when the screen is off and in the notification drop down. Lets get rid of this (look at the next line).
- Settings > Apps & Notifications > Pixel Pulse app > Notifications > uncheck Pixel Pulse is Running > Enjoy :good:
And there you have it! Enjoy your new LED notifications haha  -- Cant wait to see future development.
Thanks so much for the mention! I'll subscribe to this thread so if anyone has any issues or requests feel free to post them here.
I came across this a few days ago and even donated to get the pro features but for the life of me couldn't get the repeating pulse to work. It would show when I got a notification but then never repeat no matter how many seconds I set the interval to so I just gave up on it.

Yep, ambient display is turned on (tap to view) and set to wake screen with new notifications. Have Pixel Pulse enabled with notification access, interval set to 10 seconds, apps configured and timeout set to 0.
I think this one would be a better implementation for notifications because it does a light ring around the phone AND a pop up toast for the app.

Don't have DND on and made sure to disable all battery optimizations so that wouldn't affect it either. I'll keep messing around with it though cause it seems like it's just the app I'm looking for at least until OnePlus implements an AOD or someone makes a working AOD port down the road.

After I did that it's been flawless.

Absolutely!
However, if i may give one .. maybe two suggestions.. lol
1. While its pulsing, with hidden content.. Maybe remove the "pixel pulse" name and only show the icon itself? thatll clean it up a bit more i think.. (also: when new message is received, the content still displays, but then 'goes away' and continues to pulse without the content -- is that intended?).
2. When you have multiple notifications; gmail, sms, etc .. maybe have the notification cycle through each app every pulse? (first pulse could show the sms, then the next pulse, gmail, etc..) Or 'stack' them (maybe 3 at the most?) on top of each other while it pulses? .. So you get to see all three apps at one time? Or a combinations of those if you have multiple notifications from various apps? ..
Hope i made sense :silly: -- i can elaborate if need be ha

Yeah for those I have a feeling the Pixel lock screen doesn't work like ours. So he would definitely need to detect the device that's being used, if he's not already.

I only have a Pixel to test on right now so please bear with me while I try to understand this.
I suspect that the first wake up might be your device's initial wake but I could be wrong.
I'll be adding a way to only show icons in addition to the hide content option (like the ninja mode).
On the pixel they do scroll through all current notifications each pulse. The pixel only shows one full notification at a time. What happens on your device? I can try other ways if you're willing to test it for me.

I'm liking this a bit better than a couple of the other apps mentioned throughout the OP6T Forum .
Your set-up notes in the OP got me to give it a look & once set-up & tested,I immediately went to this one as my go-to LED Notification replacement.
Those who choose to use this or any other LED replacement apps are going to see usage in the battery stats.
This may be near the top in usage,my suggestion is don't get caught up in the numbers, just use your phone as you normally would.
You may see less remaining at the end of the day vs not using it at all, but,I'm willing to bet it won't be close to a "panic" / "wall-hugger" level.
If this wasn't using battery/in-use,the next app or process in line would be showing the higher % use, hence the tail-chasing of the battery life discussions,LOL.
I recommend anyone give this a shot & support the developer if possible............. :good:

It doesn't work for me no matter what I try. Changed the settings according to the first post, made all in-app settings, activated the pulse for all apps. Still, nothing happens when a notification arrives. Can someone please help?

Perhaps check your battery optimizations for all of the associated apps, including Pixel Pulse. (make sure they're not optimized & are allowed to run in the background)
Sent from my SM-N960U using XDA Labs
Now it works, thanks a lot!
Edit: Okay, not really working. Sometimes it is, but most of the time it doesn't.
So, i'm coming from a 6 and not having a notification LED sucks. Do you guys use any app for simulating a LED? If there was a way to put a tiny green blinking circle in the bottom, that would be awsome.
Thanks in advance.

I got my 7T yesterday was wondering the same thing, given that it's been a cornerstone of most every phone I've owned. So I did some searching around and found this, which seems to be working great, and is developed by an XDA member.

There is a thread about it here:

Using it now. It evens allows to put the light wherever we want. On my car, i only see the bottom of the phone.
Looks great so far!
Although "Notify Buddy" is a very nice app and works on Oneplus 7T i found out that it has a quiet high battery consumption. There are two other apps, that worked fine for OP 6T:
"Plus Beat"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vaf.vishal.plusbeat
"Pixel Pulse"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
They both need a workaround to be usefull on OP 7T:
- notification change to "important"
- enable popup on lockscreen
- disable "stealth mode" in app
Under this circumstandes they work fine!
Have fun with your new Oneplus!

Yup, unsinstalled notify buddy precisely for that, wasting too much battery.
I have pulse beat here, but doesn't seem to work. Going to disable stealth mode. And enable it on lockscreen. O7t here.

ok I got it to work. But it seems like everytime it pulses the fingerprint scanner is there as well. For 1 thing its too bright, 2nd i'm concerned about battery life and burn in. What can we do with this?

Any idea on my question above regarding the fingerprint scanner?

I dont know another way. battery life is okay with plus beat, burn in depends on the frequency and time...
have a nice day!
Plus beat is much more battery friendly than nottify buddy.
There is no way to sey PB notifications to important, at least i don't see it. Android 10 on 7t here. But ir's working good with stealth mode disabled.
Not quite the same.. But I use an app called Glimpse, works perfectly for me, it lights the screen up when a notification comes In, I set mine to light the screen up for 30 seconds, gives me chance to read it unlike the oneplus light up screen setting which lasts for 8 seconds.
you can select apps for notifications.
you can set screen on time and you can set it to repeat alert until checked based on a time setting...
The app is light on background battery usage.
The app is also well supported on the Xda forums...
Couple of tips, turn off the built in oneplus light up screen setting or Glimpse will not work correctly.
Also consider turning off optimisation in the battery settings and locking the app, so that android does not close it down in the background.
The app is free and ad free from the Google store.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-glimpse-notifications-t3090575/amp/
I also use a xiaomi Mi band 4 with my oneplus 7t, I set my phone to silent, use the mii band app to send the watch notifications, via vibration from my selected apps, sooooo much better than the phone beeping loudly, it disturbs nobody, more zen like... Plus the Mi band 4 is low cost, very long battery life, Amoled screen, works wonderfully...
Plus the notification message can be partially seen on the Mi band.
Looks interesting. For now, plus beat does the job, but i would like for it to stop showing notifications after you see them in the status bar.
