Weather in Android 6.0 lockscreen

Hi! I just got my new LG G4 a few days ago, and I would like to know if there is an easy way to get weather information (preferably via widget) in the lockscreen of Android 6.0. My phone is not rooted, and at this moment I do not intend to do so, either.
I know this can be achieved with alternative lock screens, but as far as I know, those lock screens do not allow me to use the camera in a safe session while the phone remains locked, and this feature is a must for me. So, if anyone knows of a replacement lockscreen that allows this, then please let me know.

Well, you can always use Google now to find that info. Just say "Ok google, what's the weather like today?" (need to have google now installed and voice trigger activated)
The LG G4's lock screen itself has the animations of weather when there is high intensity of rain, fog or storm out there. That's really an awesome feature.
If you still want to see exact numbers on your lock screen, you can get any app that puts the info on your notification bar. Naturally, the notification appears on lock screen on g4 so from there you can get it....

Thanks a lot! I can't get the weather animation on the lock screen. Does it only appear with a particular lock method (swipe, PIN, etc.)? Or with a particular swipe effect?
As for an app that puts the info on the notification bar, wouldn't that make the notification light blink constantly? Also, wouldn't that prevent the phone from sleeping and thus consume much more battery?

So many questions at once! Will answer one by one
You will get the weather animation when the weather is intense, like its raining out there or fog is there. Not for the general temperatures, but for the unusual ones.
The option can be enabled in Settings > Lock Screen > Weather Animations.
For the App that puts info on notification Bar, you have the option to disable notification light for a particular app. You can disable the notification light for the weather app, however some would prefer that light keep blinking 24x7
No, notifications do not prevent phone from sleeping. Understand it this way: when you get messages on any app, say whatsapp or facebook messenger, you get notifications. But does that prevent phone from sleeping or consumes extra battery? no. Similarly, this app will just be getting hourly updates from server just like you getting messages on whatsapp. So Standby mode won't be affected.

I do not have that setting I have not done much to the phone since I got it. I updated it to 6.0, and I am using Lightning Launcher instead of the LG one. Could any of those things prevent me from seeing that option in settings?

Ok, I understand. Though, I see that my lockscreen has space for 2 notifications at a time, so I guess that if I receive an sms and I have a calendar event, the weather notification will be hidden, right? Oh, well, at least it is better than not having the notification at all.

Well Mate, I completely understand your situation.
Unfortunately, unlocking G4 isn't possible and at MM, rooting is not possible too (as of now).
Else I am sure custom roms can provide you all that you want with minimal effort.

And yes, you need to use LG launcher along with weather app from LG.
Anyways, LG launcher is quite stable and once you customize it with your preferences, its actually better than any other launcher out there. It allows you to switch off screen on double tap, the folders are quite good and customization, you can uninstall apps directly from drawer...in short its a good launcher.
I myself preferred Google now launcher earlier before having G4 but G4's launcher is really good.

I have an old app called Weatherbug Elite. It has the option of keeping live weather info in the notification bar. With it turned on the temperature is always displayed and when you slide open the notification bar there is a panel of weather info. This same panel shows on the lock screen via notifications. It does not keep the phone awake or blink the light. If there are several notifications it compresses on the lock screen them and you can expand them with a slide.
This app is no longer available, I got it as a free app of the day from Amazon a long time ago. There must be other apps that do the same thing though.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to track it down. Still, I do not understand why Google nerfed the lockscreen so much in the last versions of Android.

Hello,
I'm S7E happy user but I just purchased OP3 for my girlfriend. Can I ask for few things, here?
- Alarm- is any way when home button pressed deactivate alarm in the morning? When she pick up phone in the morning while alarm ring accidentally she touch home button and then unlock the phone. and then takes ages to turn the annoying alarm off.
- Scheduled DO NOT DISTURB- I just cannot believe phones without this function still exist- what to do?
- Change system font- is it missing or I'm blind?
- DPI, any way for changing it without the root? Everything looks like has been made for DISABLE, blind 80y old person. It is JUST MASSIVELY HUGE.
- Nova's Tesla unread count badge is not working for FB messenger
- Pickup call- is any way of swapping annoying swipe to answer for just click icon or similar? When phone or finger cold there is no way of answering incoming call.
- What is the best browser with adblock (needs to be easy to temporary turn it off) and sync with google?

How about systemless root? Anyways u can root and change DPI and then remove root again.

I never done it before and little bit scared. Also I was just reading that OP3 is not dealing very well with changed dpi

I absolutly have no problem with my currently 420 DPI. If you are going to buy it i recommend using Freedom OS. Its basicly OxygenOS with a little bit more features such as: Adblocker, DPI etc.

No need to root you can use adb to change the dpi on the fly
yubrowser from the playstore is really good with built in ad blocking
The other ones like others have said cannot be changed afaik.

NetGuard works via the VPN API and doesn't require root/xposed/unlocked BL and works with any browser

You can't. Home button- fingerprint unlocking your phone, alarm ringing like crazy and you have to go to notifications to turn it off. What a mess in the morning. iPhone alarm just stop when home pressed.

You can get scheduled DND functionality using an app. I use Silence Premium but they have a free version also.
Edit: Note that Google includes scheduled and other nice DND functions in stock Android but OnePlus delete this functionality from OxygenOS even though it is essentially stock Android. They delete it because they are too lazy to think about accommodating it with their hardware slider even though other manufacturers do it, most notably Apple.

Out of curiosity, how does Apple manage potential conflicts between physical alert slider and different software settings?

I don't own an iPhone so no idea but Silience Premium on the OnePlus 3 works exactly how I would expect. I.e. the slider always has priority. In the normal position the software can set priority mode on/off but the slider always sets it on if set and sets it off if toggled etc. When the app sets priority on the indicator goes on just like the slider so it is a true system setting thus we know that the stock DND could do it as well. I just don't understand why this simple and obvious behavior wasn't adopted by the OP design team.

Paid customization adds the ability to always pulse (with a view that shows you that you have no important notifications), and the ability to select icons and colors for specific applications.
Screenshots are difficult because you can't screenshot the ambient display. I'll need to try and take actual photographs.

Seems like the settings don't save. Just updated the app and everything is set to pulse even though I removed some stuff :S

This is awesome. But is there a way you can maybe make the icon only pulse and be custom colors? Without showing the actual notification text? That would be amazing! But bought the paid one and I am using it now looks good on the wireless charger. :good:

I must be doing something wrong. This doesn't seem to do anything when I receive a notification with the screen off and having AOD on or off. I have the time turned down to 10 second but nothing even pulses.

You want always on display to be off but you want wake on new notifications to be on.

Thanks, I bought you a beer. Changing the time internal doesn't seem to work. I've tried 30 seconds and it's only 5 before it pulses again. Same thing with any other time I try, it pulses after only 5 seconds.

The update somewhat fixed the timing issue but it still is off by 5 seconds. When setting the internal to 20 seconds it pulses after 15 seconds.
Edit: It seems that the timer starts when the notification pops up not when the notification disappears. Is this the way it is intended to work?

Yes currently its a start to start time but if everyone thinks it makes more sense to time finish to start I can modify it.

[App] Edge Lighting fix for all Apps with screen off (ACTUAL Edge Lighting)

Get actual Samsung Edge Lighting Notifications with any app while your screen is off!​
Since we all know Samsung only did half the job with this feature, this app will enable you to trigger Edge Lighting (the real one !) when your screen is off. It works with any app by reading the app notification creating a new temporary notification that triggers edge lighting (you won't notice it in your notification list).
You can set custom color filters for your apps, based on their names.
Real Samsung Edge Lighting
Extremely minimal battery drain
No fake AOD Screen
Works with ANY app (including Messenger!)
Initial setup is a bit tedious, but that's mostly Samsung's fault.

Keeps disabling the apps I choose whenever I close and reopen the app
If I keep the app open, when I receive a message from WhatsApp which I have set to use Edge Lighting, it just turns the screen on instead of Edge lighting

Thank you for pointing this out.
It was a minor but very disturbing variable name bug when using the search function . The app wasn't disabled, it was just a switch display issue. If you scroll down the list without using search, you'll see your app is enabled.
Issue has been fixed, new package has been uploaded, update should be available on the market within an hour.
If I keep the app open, when I receive a message from WhatsApp which I have set to use Edge Lighting, it just turns the screen on instead of Edge lighting

Make sure you have enabled my app in the Edge Lighting notifications settings screen (and obviously turned on edge lighting when screen is off). See in-app detailed instructions.

Ah yes, thanks I had missed that toggle for notifications settings somehow even after reading the instructions, I think I opened it and saw that my 3 apps I wanted to use were checked but forgot to enable your app too

Well I've tried again with the latest update (7th June) and nothing, does not call Edge Lighting when i receive a notification from one of the apps I set up, phone acts as if the app is not even installed, nothing happens other than LED notification
Can't work out what could be wrong as I have set this up like 5 times now following instructions to a T, made sure all toggles are on as directed, permissions granted, nothing

Did you go to edge lightning style > custom color and entered the app name under "By text" menu?
It worked for whatsapp on my S9...
I uninstalled it because I already have app with the same concept called "Glimpse notifications".
But if you want to customize the style for separate apps, the app in question is the way to go.

Didn't change any custom colours no, just left it as default as I just wanted my default edge lighting to work for all apps selected but absolutely nothing happened

If you didn't do what I asked in my first question, the app won't work.
"Glimpse notifications" basically triggers the app to turn on the screen when it receives a new notification, and if you had turned on edge lightning when screen is off, the effect will be shown instead of turning on the screen.
But if you want to allow many apps, the color and the app icon will be the same for all of them.
It's a bit confusing though, in the app selection, you need to check what apps to ignore, not apps to use. And you need to follow the instructions to avoid samsung's battery saving behaviour. Personally I didn't experience any kind of additional battery loss...

Did not know setting custom colours in this app edge lighting was a requirement, but just to have custom colours if you wanted them otherwise your default colour would be used for all apps added
Have not tried Glimpse yet but will give it a try at some point thanks, shame Samsung can't get their own edge lighting working considering the setting is there to do what these apps are doing

The requirement isn't exactly to customize colors, it's to enable edge lighting by text (app name) as you can read in the instructions, because edge lighting can't distinguish between different apps since there's one app doing all this. I don't know how to explain it exactly, I think if you follow ALL the instructions you'll understand what I mean.
And yes, you are right, samsung should fix this as soon as possible.

Not sure what you mean, it does not state anything about adding by text in the instructions, just to enable in notifications and enable the apps you want to use it with, which I did
The only thing about adding via text is for custom colours which I did not want so did not do, going from what the instructions say "All you have to do now is check the desired apps in the main screen" nothing at all about adding text

These 4 steps are literally the only requirements the detailed instructions say are needed to get it working, anything else is optional (Custom colours) and these are all enabled on my phone

I have just received a WhatsApp message and with those above settings again nothing happened, so I have added Edge Lighting Fix app as a custom colour by text, if this fixes it it needs to state in the "Detailed Instructions" that this is a required step, not sure it is though as the app is already sitting there enabled in the custom colours section along with WhatsApp and other apps I have set, making my addition a second entry of the same app

Nope, not even that fixed it, still nothing at all when receiving a message, if you can see any setting I have missed or set wrong let me know

Bro, in the last screenshot under By text menu, you should enter the app name like WhatsApp, not the edge lighting fix app.

Even though they are all already added at the bottom ?
But like I said, this is only for custom colours, the app should work regardless, the instructions say that part is only for custom colours, not to get it working
Thanks for the help but can't be bothered reinstalling and setting it up for the 10th time Might try that other one you suggested some time

Yes even if they were added at the bottom. Because the Edge lighting fix app can't detect these apps, it only detects the names you have written under "By text" menu, it's one of the instructions...

Can you screenshot where it says that is a requirement in the instructions because the one I linked above does not say anything about that, it only says that is for custom colours

In your first screenshot, you need to scroll down, that's what I remember. I already uninstalled the app, but try it and you'll see that it will work.

The app just won't work with the Messages app from Samsung.
Messages can generate edge lighting with screen off on its own, and my app can't handle that behaviour atm. Just enable Messages in the edge lighting notification settings.

App for notification light?

So, i'm coming from a 6 and not having a notification LED sucks. Do you guys use any app for simulating a LED? If there was a way to put a tiny green blinking circle in the bottom, that would be awsome.

I got my 7T yesterday was wondering the same thing, given that it's been a cornerstone of most every phone I've owned. So I did some searching around and found this, which seems to be working great, and is developed by an XDA member.

Using it now. It evens allows to put the light wherever we want. On my car, i only see the bottom of the phone.
Looks great so far!

Although "Notify Buddy" is a very nice app and works on Oneplus 7T i found out that it has a quiet high battery consumption. There are two other apps, that worked fine for OP 6T:
"Plus Beat"

They both need a workaround to be usefull on OP 7T:
- notification change to "important"
- enable popup on lockscreen

Under this circumstandes they work fine!

Yup, unsinstalled notify buddy precisely for that, wasting too much battery.
I have pulse beat here, but doesn't seem to work. Going to disable stealth mode. And enable it on lockscreen. O7t here.

ok I got it to work. But it seems like everytime it pulses the fingerprint scanner is there as well. For 1 thing its too bright, 2nd i'm concerned about battery life and burn in. What can we do with this?

I dont know another way. battery life is okay with plus beat, burn in depends on the frequency and time...

Plus beat is much more battery friendly than nottify buddy.
There is no way to sey PB notifications to important, at least i don't see it. Android 10 on 7t here. But ir's working good with stealth mode disabled.

Not quite the same.. But I use an app called Glimpse, works perfectly for me, it lights the screen up when a notification comes In, I set mine to light the screen up for 30 seconds, gives me chance to read it unlike the oneplus light up screen setting which lasts for 8 seconds.
you can select apps for notifications.
you can set screen on time and you can set it to repeat alert until checked based on a time setting...
The app is light on background battery usage.
The app is also well supported on the Xda forums...
Couple of tips, turn off the built in oneplus light up screen setting or Glimpse will not work correctly.
Also consider turning off optimisation in the battery settings and locking the app, so that android does not close it down in the background.

I also use a xiaomi Mi band 4 with my oneplus 7t, I set my phone to silent, use the mii band app to send the watch notifications, via vibration from my selected apps, sooooo much better than the phone beeping loudly, it disturbs nobody, more zen like... Plus the Mi band 4 is low cost, very long battery life, Amoled screen, works wonderfully...
Plus the notification message can be partially seen on the Mi band.

Looks interesting. For now, plus beat does the job, but i would like for it to stop showing notifications after you see them in the status bar.
