[Q] Desire HD USB OTG Host cable

Hi,
I've been wanting to hook up my desire hd to usb hosting and have not been able to find a cable for it.
I was wondering would it be ok if i connected a micro usb (male) to usb b (printer version) (female) adapter
to a,
standard printer cable with usb female at the end?
This would result in one end being a micro usb male and the other end a female usb
I look forward to your answers
Thanks alot for reading
That probably wont work.
I in fact saw an article yesterday, but can't recall the link. (Will look now).
IIRC, you need to modify the USB cable somewhat to get the DHD's USB port to detect an OTG connection.
Edit:
Here we go: http://gigaom.com/mobile/how-to-add-a-usb-keyboard-to-an-android-phone/
I think if the software supports usb host mode, with a 'micro usb type a' to 'usb type b' cable you can connect to a usb device. That is if the DHD is equiped with 'micro usb type ab' receptacle.
oh wow, ok thanks ever so much!!,
however, i just need to confirm what three cables you need so i can go out and buy them, i need:
Car charging cable (which one is this?)
Micro-usb cable (is this with the microusb male on one end and a standard usb male on the other end?)
USB extender cable (is this with one usb male and usb female on the other end?)
thanks

I have no idea really, but if you are successful, let us know
I'm just having trouble understanding what cables are needed.
On the website you gave me, it says i need:
a car charging cable, a micro USB cable and a USB extender cable.
Is this effectively two micro usb cables and a USB extender cable?
or does one HAVE to come from a car charging kit?
please help!!
thanks

Nice find! I did see the mini one only
Gonna order and try it out. No great financial loss if it does not work.
Obviously we will need a USB Host module for the kernel if not already present. Will check tonite.
i've finally made my host cable!!!
i now need micro-usb dongle host module. Is this where you have to get hold of a car charger and get the end of it and unsolder bits?
The USB Host module is software. It is loaded by the Linux kernel.
ok well i need to get that too.
Also, whats the bit with the car charging cable? what that for?
I'd be really interested in this as well. Would be awesome if i could just connect a usb drive or my camera to my phone to copy data.
So does anyone know if a host driver is available for the desire hd.
I really have no idea how it would work, but it should, as loads of tablets are able to use 3G-Sticks to connect.
Today I recieve my USB Host adapter cable for the DHD.
When I plug it into the DHD and connect a USB Hub the car panle ("Auto Bedienfeld") starts.
Connecting a USB Keyboard to the USB Hub doesn't show any impact. But this is what I have expected. Next I try to integrate the patch from sonic74 to a kernel for the DHD.
http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
At the moment I use Android Revolution HD 2.0.9
Any progress?
I really like the USB host future on my Desire HD,
I want to connect my USB Drive to my DHD if this is possible? So i have 16GB More storage if needed ;D
I've ordered the converter thing from dealextreme, someone that could make a flashable zip to enable usb host functions?
Was also quite interested on this.
My wish is to connect my dSLR to the phone, and move all jpgs/nefs from there to a internal card. Or copy, and use the device for better visualisation.
As the camera has its internal battery, power shouldn't be a issue. It would be awesome
I am still working on this.
At the moment it is working for a short time, but then there a same errores.
This meens it should be possible, but same more research must be done.
My Kernel is based on the BUZZ 1.3.7 Kernel, and following patches:

Quick Q: What did you connect? Or you didn't connect anything ?

Has anyone attached two USB devices?

I want to attach two usb devices to my Note.
One will be the MHL adapter and one will be the 2.4ghz wireless unit for a keyboard like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250996855143.
I need a Micro USB male to 1x Micro USB female and 1x USB female adapter.
These for some strange reason don't exist
I was just wondering if anyone has done anything similar.
I know I could get a Bluetooth keyboard, but I don't have one. I do however have the above keyboard
Oh wow! I'm interested into this keyboard! Does Lenovo Mini Wireless keyboard work perfectly with the Note? All buttons are recognized and trackball mouse is usable?
Its really good, i use it on my Note and my Libretto W100. The mouse and keyboard work perfectly.

You cannot attach 2 or more devices to the same usb port. You need an usb hub for that, but I don't know if the MHL would work with the hub. I will try later today to attach an usb hub and connect more devices, and will report my findings.

Edit:
--------------------------------------------
I have successfully connected a self powered usb hub to the galaxy Note, and connected 2 thumb drives, a combo card reader, and a mouse. The Note mounted both of my thumb drives, as /usbstorage/sda and /usbstorage/sdb respectively. Then I inserted a mikroSD card into the card reader and the phone mounted it as sdc. I then inserted an sony memory stick into the card reader and it was mounted as sdd. All mounts were usable, and I could watch movies from them, and watch pictures, copy files from one to the other, etc... But, when I connected the mouse to the usb hub it didn't recognize it. Whatever combination I tried the Note would not recognize my mouse, when plugged into the usb hub. When plugged directly to the OTG cable it works perfectly, but won't work when connected to the hub (maybe cables are to long).
Using rooted stock xxla6 firmware.
Edit2:
---------------------------------------
Just found out, that usb otg and mhl cannot work simultaneously. When the MHL cable is plugged in, the GNote's microusb port will become an MHL port, and from that point it will not act as an usb host or usb slave. :-(
It's too bad, 'cause I really wanted to connect it to my full hd monitor and use a mouse and keyboard, too.

How about bluetooth mouse+keyboard instead ? That would keep your USB port free for MHL

This is the setup I'm going to do also. But as with topic, it's also very tempting to have everything USB powered. Since it will decrease latency and maybe power consumption as well? (as opposed to bluetooth) Well, MHL to HDMI will still drain our battery even if we connect it to power source
You can also try NZtechfreak's workaround:

[Q] If I use a usb hub, can I attach an ethernet port, and have the device charging?

From what I've read (and the other threads on this topic) - no it can't be done.

OTG with power - <amazon.com/gp/product/B00C452XFO/>
Yup, this now works great for me too! :good:
I bought the Ethernet adapter Nvidia Recommends (same as browncoatdave's)

3) Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power
4) Smart Touch Mini USB TouchPad Keyboard
5) Full Size trackball mouse
6) Charging cord
I am charging the battery with ethernet, keyboard and mouse plugged in.
No Problem. But this is also after the kitkat update which added the charging while ethernet is plugged in.

Did you plug all the devices in a particular order? I noticed that if I plug in my charger AFTER I plug in the OTG cable into the shield, then it is not charging. But when I plug in the charger into the OTG cable and then plug it into shield, it is charging.
Is your hub powered? What exact model is it? I am asking because I have very similar setup to yours but the shield does not detect USB devices connected to the hub - it's this one: http: // esperanza . pl/esperanza-usb-2-0-hub-4-porty-ea116,182,437.html
I can connect one usb device directly to OTG cable and it works, but when I connect a hub, it no longer works.
There is a cheap way to do this if you have the soldering skills, and are willing to try it.
Get a cheap USB "Travel" hub.
Open it up, and replace the Upstream USB cable with an OTG cable (A scrap Micro-USB cable may or may not work. The connector must be Properly wired for OTG).
Remove the main power diode in the USB hub, and solder jumper the 2 pads where it was. A Multimeter in continuity mode can help you find the right component, but it takes some experience. There usually is not much in a cheap travel hub, so I can usually find them just by looking, but like I say, only try this if you have the experience, and you know what you are looking for.
Power the hub through it's 5V power jack (if it has one), or you can add a power only micro-USB socket. (Only connect the (+) and (-) power pins, do not connect the data lines. Connect it to any one of the Full size USB port's power pins. Observe polarity.)
Voila! You now have 4 Full size USB ports, it will charge your device, and provide power (Up to the rated power of the AC adapter) for your USB devices.
I did this years ago in the Nokia 770 days. It was one of the first consumer devices that supported USB OTG. Article still exists here:
http://www.linuxslate.org/N770DockingStation.html (Scroll down to the "Electronic Components" Section)
Would this work?
Would this: SODIAL(R) Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power plus this: AnkerĀ® Unibody 3-Port USB 3.0 and Ethernet Hub
Give me the ability to charge tablet, use Ethernet and additionally connect USB mouse and keyboard, and possibly charge Nvidia Game Controller?
Or would it just be a waste of time and money

USB OTG - DAC and hard drive at same time?

Anyone know if the USB OTG is capable of charging the Tab, connecting a hard drive AND connecting an Audio DAC at the same time?
No
Okay thanks. I know you can charge and have DAC at the same time.
I guess I'll have to look into really big MicroSD cards to hold my MP3's.
maybe....

I can't find my DAC to test right now, but I bought these items and they are working to provide my Tablet with a charge and USB OTG at the same time.
It's not a FAST charge. I've seen up to 687 mAh with testing over the last ten minutes.
But the mouse and USB stick I've plugged in all seem to work fine.

What is the Pixel C USB data transfer speed?

Hi,
I was hoping someone could answer this for me as I can't find an answer anywhere.
I was just wondering whether to buy the Google USB C cable that is stated to transfer at USB 2.0 speeds (480Mbps) or whether to buy a faster USB 3.0 (5Gbps) or 3.1 (10Gbps) cable (A to C).
I've found a few compliant USB C cables including a Belkin USB 3.1 A to C cable that transfers at 10Gbps and was hoping to take advantage of the USB 3.1 ports on my new Z170 based motherboard.
Thanks

I do not believe the port in the Pixel C is USB 3.0. Therefore, it wouldn't be necessary to get a USB 3.1 cable. It should still work, but you wouldn't exceed USB 2.0 speeds, which is probably why Google's cable is only USB 2.0.
Thanks for the response.
Is anyone able to do a quick transfer with a USB 3.0/3.1 based Type C cable to see if it maxes out at USB 2.0 speeds.
It would be much appreciated.

Most tech sites report the Pixel C has USB 3, but the fastest read speed I can get on a USB-C /3.0 flash drive is 27MB/s which leads me to believe even tech sites are confused and don't understand that USB-C does not automatically mean USB 3.
I think it was confirmed by Benson Leung, in the Reddit AMA, it's full host/client USB c spec so it's full speed port. Maybe another way to test would be to mount a USB 3 drive to pixel and storage benchmark it
I thought that the USB 3.1 host and client related only to the ability to charge the Pixel C as well as the ability to charge other devices from the Pixel C and to use the USB port for other devices such as an ethernet adapter.

That's pretty much what I did. A USB 3 USB-C MicroSD flash drive. On my PC it reads at 80MB+, on the Pixel it is 25MB
I'm a bit confused now.
Recently I read a review by Benson Leung on a USB 2.0 A to C cable here http://www.amazon.com/review/R1AF6ZHBZRQFHV/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B018HUOMYE&channel=detail-glance&nodeID=2335752011&store=wireless on Amazon and at the end of the review states:
In conclusion, this is a Good cable for your Nexus 6P/5X to use with all of your older USB Type-A chargers, hubs, and PCs. It also works great with Chromebook Pixel 2015 and will work great on USB Type-C spec compliant devices to come! However, it is NOT a SuperSpeed USB 3.1 5gbps cable. Look elsewhere if you are specifically looking for a 5gbps cable for use with MacBook or Pixel C.
Is this implying that the Pixel C is capable of USB 3.0 speeds, but perhaps not at the moment?
Or is it just a typo as a Superspeed USB 3.1 cable should be capable of 10Gbps and not 5Gbps (USB 3.0).
That is interesting. I'd suspect he'd know what the C is. I however, have never gotten more than USB 2 speeds out of it.
