Wifi Hotspot Not Working / Staying Enabled - Fix for Some (YMMV) - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

Posted this in another thread and realized it may be worthwhile for some others on here so here it is...
First, this post assumes you have the right APN settings in place. So if not, start there.
If you're all set there and are still having an issue getting your Hotspot to turn on and stay on, it may be the same issue I was having and if so here is a partial fix for you.
Go to: Settings > Tethering > WiFi Hotspot > Setup Wifi Hotpsot > (scroll down to see this next part) Show advanced Options > Change setting from 2.4ghz to 5.ghz > Done.
On my device this allowed my Hotpsot to stay on and active finally but it is only usable on this setting. Switching back to 2.4ghz makes it go right back to turning off on it's own. Hopefully this helps some of you out.

Hello, I'm running Pie (V30b) on my V30, but I don't have such option to change the frequency. I only have the channel selection under advanced options.
Is it possible?

[Q] Can't see my work's wireless network with cyanogenmod 7.0.2

Hi all
just flashed pure cyanogenmod 7.0.2 on my DHD and I no longer see my work's wireless network.
Is this a known problem?
Works fine with sense based ROMs
Hi,
A little more detail maybe required. AFAIK there is no known problem with wifi network visability.
What type of network is your work wifi?
I can connect easily with other ROMs (currently RCMIx v6.0.0.1).
From the connection details I see that it has WEP security on channel 13.
I had the same problem with CleanDHD ROM which was also based on cyanogenmod 7.0, so it seems to be a common issue.
Have you enabled 13/14 channels in Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings > *Menu* > Advanced > Regulatory Domain .
If the handset thinks your in the US only 11 channels will be available.

Thank you for your reply.
I didn't know about this option before and I don't know why it's limited to 11 channels by default.
I'll check if it helps and will report here.

I have the same issue with CM7 nightly on my SGS9000. It doesn't detect my home WLAN no matter the setting (11, 13 or 14 channels). It does detect the neighbour's WLAN though.
Hm, it works when I change my DIR-655 to channel 7 (was set to auto before).
Happens to me every time I reinstall. This will work.
Oops, misssed the quote. Enablibg more channels will work ....

[Q] Is there a fix for the Wifi Issues on Lollipop?

Recently purchased a 2013 Wifi only N7. Upgraded to Lollipop and continue to have intermittent WiFi issues, where WiFi will show connected in the notification area with an exclamation mark. This usually occurs after I docked the device and been away from it overnight or for several hours. The only way to get back on the network is by toggling WiFi off/on. There is another WiFi network in my home, but it is set to a different channel and we are far away from the neighbors. The AP is nearby with clear line of site, and other devices (e.g. HTC One, iPad) have no issues.
I have read that this is a general problem with Android 5.
I would check your Wi-Fi settings in settings, Wi-Fi, three dots, advanced.

There's not much to change in there. Since the nearest network is only 2.4ghz, I changed from automatic to 2.4ghz only. Not sure that's going to fix this.
What about your settings for WiFi being on or off during sleep? Is it set to always on?

Yes, it's set to the default, which is "always on." Should I change this?

Wifi Tether Router

Hello,
Here is the problem.* My phone is rooted with CF-Auto Root. I downloaded SuperSU successfully and then downloaded the .APK for Wifi Tether Router.
It successfully downloaded! * I open the application and go to configure WIFI ROUTER, I then receive a notification from the program saying, "WARNING You are currently using Android 4.3/4.4 If the network is not transmitted, disables (UNCHECK) the 'Scan always available' from the screen that appears.*
That message was verbatim from what my phone was saying.
Once I close the message the phone automatically opens my phones IP settings. Network notification tab is unable to be turned on and of, it is currently selected as "ON", and Passpoint is currently selected as "off".
I press the back option on my phone and it takes me back to the configuration screen for "Wifi Tether Router". I then begin to change my device settings starting with method. I choose* Method 3-(HostApd) and press back. I choose WLAN0 as my interface. I scroll down to Prevents Stand By and make sure IT IS checked. after that I Make sure that HostApd Patch is checked off as well.
I scroll down to APN settings and my screen is completely grayed out with all the different Access Point Names unavailable. the ADD option is also grayed out.
I then set my Hot spot settings.
ssid- wififorme
encryption - wpa2-psk
wifi password -* ihatecheeseburgers
wifi channel- 1
*
Im done at this point. I press back and I am at the home screen for the program. I select ENABLE WIFI ROUTER and phone request ask me to grant* access. I do. The phone disables router then resets the radio and the phone is enabling WiFi Router.... waiting... phone grants access and it displays my wifi settings.
The program is now running at this point but is not sending data or receiving it. I jump on my laptop and the wifi network is not showing up either.
What did I do wrong and how can I fix this issue?

You need to contact the support team for said app, or the dev himself. If you goto the website there is setup instructions even...

Did you ever figure it out?

Note 5 Wi-fi Rapidly Switching On And Off

Firmware: 6.0.1
Model: SM-N920A
UPDATE: Problem solved. Turns out it's an issue with the WIFI scanning in LOCATION, not in the wifi settings. While I still think this is an issue with the firmware, at least there's a way to get it to stop freaking out until they get it fixed.
Whenever I turn on the Wifi, it will often begin a cycle of rapidly turning off and back on again. If you watch the switch that indicates 'on' and 'off', it's constantly fluctuating between the two. -Immediately- after the switch shows it's turned on, the text just below the switch says "turning off.." and it turns off, immediately afterward turning back on, and the process repeats constantly until the phone dies.
Something is either forcing it to turn off, or forcing it to turn on. I've tried adjusting the settings for my third-party texting app (Textra), and even after disabling the entire app and using the stock one, the issue persisted.
I've tried restarting, I've tried clearing the cache via the bootloader.
I've exhausted the entire suite of options in settings for anything Wifi related, no configuration of settings has resolved the issue, including turning off wifi scanning.
I've tried entering the combination of "#", "*", and 0's and 1's (can't remember it off the top of my head) to access the wifi settings to turn off the power saving, but my phone under the listed model and firmware showed no such option.
The problem persists in any location, so I know it's not anything to do with the network I'm trying to connect to.
The only way I've gotten it to stop is going to the wifi settings menu, and rapidly tapping the switch while it constantly goes back and forth. I've managed to get it to stay in the "on" position, but that's the closest thing to a fix I've been able to find.
I've combed through many threads in the AT&T Note 5 troubleshooting topic, and can hardly find anything that describes this particular issue, only with wifi "not staying connected" or other obscure descriptions that upon further inspection were -not- the issue I'm having here.
Were it up to me I would root the thing and put stock Nougat on there and be done with it. But alas, AT&T has removed that option.
I am willing to do a factory reset, but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and if there is any other way to solve it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Like I said, I've exhausted all possible options in the menus relating to wifi.
This is what I see when I go into the "Advanced" settings in Wifi.
Network Notification (on or off)
Hotspot 2.0 (on or off)
Keep wifi on during sleep (never)
Auto connect to AT&T wifi (on or off)
Install network certificates
MAC address
IP address
That's all there is. I just factory reset my phone, restored it, and the problem in the OP persists.
I rebooted it in safe mode, and the problem still persists. At this point, it looks like it's an issue with the individual handset, unless there's anything I've missed. This is beyond frustrating.
Sorry but can you explain to me how you stop this from happening?
Mine going crazy from time to time, drives me nuts, and i can't stop it.
Btw this doesn't exist on my AT&T Note 5 --> Settings > wifi > more (top right corner) > advanced > always allow scanning - set to 'off'
Kill AT&T Wifi Direct and AT&T Hot Spots.. Remove them as System Apps also.. You should get a message that it is replacing it with the stock version somewhere along this path then your wifi will work flawlessly again even with 5GHz, go figure I guess Google does a better job at WiFi.'
Edit: (sloppy instructions)
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
"MORE" top right corner
CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS
<disable AT&T smart WiFi and anything else that is AT&T or Samsung, including theme nonsense if you want)
Now remove it from Apps....
DEVICE|APPLICATION MANAGER
Force Stop AT&T Smart Wifi. Disable AT&T Smart WiFI.. (Select Storage in same screeen, restrict background data.. Remove permissions)
I realize some of my steps are redundant but AT&T will update stuff then turn those apps back on somehow.. But not if you gut it like I described above

Galaxy S9 Data Icon persistent

There will be many times when my data icon will be persistent even on wifi.
I'm pretty sure it's not actually downloading anything because I don't see the download and upload arrows lighting up.
At times, the issue will go away, but in others it reappears. I've made sure to disable "Keep Mobile data turned on" in the developer options.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? I'm on T-Mobile.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that when I usually leave data and wifi on, wifi automatically overrides it. I still leave my data on because of this fact. Right now, it seems to be working (as in the phone is only showing wifi with both data and wifi enabled).

WiFi will override it as long as you do not have that setting enabled, if you do the phone will switch between data and wifi randomly when it thinks data will give a better connection
You do not need that setting enabled to leave data on, I do not have it enabled and my phone will switch to data once I leave wifi, that setting just gives the phone a dumb brain that barely works and forces it to switch back and forth regardless, it has never worked properly since the S5 series
You can safely disable that setting and still have data come back on automatically once you leave wifi
