red wolf recovery pattern instead pin to decrypt data - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Im using latest xiaomi eu 9.3.28 on my rn5 ai and after encrypting data with pin i have to insert pattern in recovery to decrypt data. It was same with twrp 3.2.3.2, but they recommended to install this recovery (3.2.3 if im not mistaken) because of proper pie support. It works when i set pin to something easy like 4-6 digits and connect corresponding dots, but when i set something harder like 16 digits its impossible to do this. Is there a way to change password type in recovery or something?
Edit
I installed latest official OrangeFox and there is switch from pattern to password/pin so everything is fine now.

Custom rom to stock OOS. How does it remember pattern?

i came back to stock from an oos based custom rom. i had a pattern set for screen unlock.
lets recap:
1. i have custom oos rom installed with lock pattern
2. i boot into twrp and have to enter lock pattern
3. i wipe system/data/cache/dalvik and install offical oos and reboot into system
4. i have to enter my old lock pattern
how is that!? when i delete whole data partition, how can it remember my unlock pattern!?
Your patern is a type of decrypt key, so unless you format your internal storage, it's not going anywhere (because you will need it to read your internal storage).

TWRP decrypt failed even with good password.

TWRP failed to decrpt even with good password.
i already change the PIN Password of my phone but even after i reboot back to TWRP then tried to decrypt it using the correct password still it gives me decrypt fail.
it already happens to my phone twice.. the first time it happened to i format my phone data and lose all of my data in internal storage. i dont want to format my phone again. i can still boot to normal mode but when i tried to use TWRP it always gives decrpt fail error.

Try this in twrp

I canceled the encryption after 1 or 2 correct PIN inputs -- it still opens TWRP but it can't detect any files -- and *then* I touch the "Mount" button, choose the partitions I want mounted, and it suddenly says encryption successful, and I can access my files.

Brick my phone. But TWRP (ver. 3.0.2-1) asks for a decryption password?

Hello from Antwerp.
Can someone help me please? I am contacting you, because my phone does not start anymore. However I can get into TWRP. But TWRP (v. 3.0.2-1) asks a password. In former days I have crypt my phone. But I have done this with a 6-pattern. But now TWRP only accept numbers (or letters). Does someone of you maybe know, how I can enter a 6-pattern code as a numeric code? Or is there a possibility to change the password prompt into a pattern within TWRP? Maybe then I can get further afterwords.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi.
There are a lot of questions open. What firmware are you using? What TWRP version exactly? What do you want to achieve with decrypting /data?
If you just want your phone booting again the easiest way would be skipping the password prompt, wipe /data, /system, caches and reinstall your firmware.
If not:
Pattern-->Numbers works as described here https://twrp.me/faq/openrecoveryscript.html (Scroll down to Specific pattern decrypt note).
The thing now is, that you need to have 2 things:
TWRP capable of decrypt /data
Android version < 8
Decryption in TWRP for Android >= 8 isn't working right now. But you can tell me if you find a version capable of doing so.
If decryption worked that doesn't mean you'll be able to boot again. You can save your data but that's it. Are there known problems with decryption on your firmware?
You can try to backup /data after successful decryption, do a clean install and import backup afterwards.

After flashing twrp i need to decrypt data and i don't know the password

Please, I need help. After flashing twrp I boot it and I need a password. I don't have any idea of what password it is. I tried with "default_password", "password" and with my MIUI account password. I also tried the password I have in the lock screen. But nothing seems to work. I tried also RedWolf but it also needs a password.
I have been reading a lot of forums with this topic but no one worked for me. Does somebody have a solution? I will do a fabric reset if necessary, but I want to install a custom rom and with that password it's impossible

press tge back button for twrp u will enter twrp interface now You will have to perform format data(in wipe section) after that your internal storage along with other partitions will be wiped then you mist install orangefox recovery (never choose anyother recovery for whyred only orangefox) then you can install any custom rom your storage will be decrypted.(your os will also b wiped and all your data in internal storage) use sd card or otg to flash a rom.
Use Orange Fox.
The only reason for the encryption of twrp is immediate change of roms from android 10 to android 9 (or) changing the pixel based roms to normal roms to avoid this we can use the lazy flasher zip

Forgot to remove losck screen PIN before wiping, how do I fix?

I was messing around with ROMs and on the last one I tried (LineageOS 17.1) I forgot to remove the lock screen PIN and did a factory reset because I wanted to recover the NANDroid backup of my previous ROM (OOS 10.1). But TWRP asks for a password to decrypt /data, and the PIN I set up on LineageOS is apparently incorrect, so I'm stuck with an encrypted /data.
If I try to flash again via adb push, LineageOS gets stuck at "just a sec..." right after choosing language and doesn't go further that that, and OOS gets stuck at the bootanimation.
I tried different TWRP versions (from the latest to 3.3.2), even various unofficial ones (the two or three available on the blu_spark repo, and also OrangeFox), but they all say "wrong password" when I input the PIN I used on LineageOS.
Does anyone know of a way to get out of this mess? Or to recover pictures from the phone, at least?
