Hello,
My telephoto pictures are really poor ! And I discovered why : the phone never use the telephoto sensor (52mm), it make a digital zoom with the main camera (27mm) !
I simply covered the main camera and I switched to 2x mode, and surprise I haven’t an image.
Can you perform the same test with your phones ? If you have the same behavior, for what this telephoto sensor is ?
EMUI 9.0.0.198
Camera software : 9.0.0.305
Telephoto lens doesn't work if you are close to the subject, try it with a far object.

Yes, that's it !
Thank you gm007 !
I was ready to send the phone to Huawei :-/
So this doesn't explain why my photos are with so bad quality ..

Everyone knows the weakness behind our Back Camera.. but does everyone know how POWERFUL our front facing camera is? I bet you didn't know you can crank the ISO to 12446 on the front facing camera
You can now take selfies in almost pitch black rooms (and come out grainy, but visible).
Inside the "Selfie" mode, click on EV +2 and go into a dark room.
Your image will automatically being super grainy but you'll be able to see yourself like no other!

Yes...it's weird it only works on front camera and not on regular one...but yeah! Takes photos on pitch black room
Does anyone know if the rear facing camera has an IR filter on it? That may explain this, because if the rear facing camera has a filter but the selfie one does not, the selfie camera will let in more "light", and use ambient IR to illuminate your face slightly more. That's just my best guess.

The reason you can do this with the front is because the camera used is exactly the 4UP sensor from the M8 which has larger pixels for better low light performance
Hello guys,
Ive been playing with my mi6 for a while and noticed a strange thing. Photos captured at 2x look actually more like a digital zoom than an optical, even though the resolution is the same as 1x. When you actually cover the left camera lens, the picture is still normal. No matter if you choose 1x or 2x.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
You can explicitly set the lens on manual mode.

Thanks, you da real MVP!
Where can you change that? Still on MIUI8.
it does that in low light shots, cause the tele lens is so bad at low light that it prefers to shot in main camera and zoom it in.
sources : miui forum? red it when i bought it

That's right, the telephoto sensor has 1.00µm pixel size at f/2.6 aperture, while the main sensor has 1.25µm pixel size at f/1.8 aperture.
So i think everyone of you have come across this annoyance that third party cameras on Redmi Note 5 Pro (Note 5 China) cannot use the full 20mp resolution in front camera. Only 5mp resolution is utilised.
So can anyone point out what exactly is the reason for that and is there any fix possible for the issue, as this is a major reason for me to not flash custom roms as even gcam doesn't use full resolution of front camera.
Replies appreciated.
I tried the Nokia camera port and it works. It Utilizes full 20 mp front sensor.

yeah i have tried nokia cam too, it utilities full 20mp front. But the quality is nowhere close to google camera and that's why i want the gcam to utilize full 20mp front.
My RN5Pro is running on stock miui version 9.5 the front cam is nice in low lights but the dissappointung part is that the front cams focus is fixed so that the pictures took in front cam has a little blurry nature the details are missing and face looks like painted .. is there any way to make manual or autofocus work on the front cam .. i have tried so many camera apps but while switching to front cam the focus looks locked .. if rooting and enabling camera2api helps it .. im noob here so someone who knows plzz reply.......
....
As you wrote it, its FIXED.
The RN5 has a strange, short focus distance. The distance is about an arm away: if you take a selfie, make sure you hold the phone as far as you can in your hand. But if you use a selfie stick, its too far, and faces will be blurry.
Earlier phones had a front cam, that was fixed to near infinite, so almost everything looked "sharp".
This new objective system provides a natural bokeh effect on the front cam, and if you're in focus, its very sharp. But the focus range is really short, so you're easily fall in or out of the focus point.
I also heard this problem from a Samsung A5 2017 user.
tl;dr: There's no mechanical focus on the front can, you cant change the focuspoint.

as u said one of the pic i took had sharp details which i took in an arm length but when i tried it ones again the focus became blurry ...... i want to know that is there any way to change the fixed focus point by any means...
Theres no way to change it.

cruel thing ??????
Daisy should have second rear 5MPx camera but I dont think that is even used, it feels like just a hole. Doesnt help for bokeh, in low ligh, for zooming. If I covered it image was the same. Anyone knows when this camera take any effect?
same problem, bad front camera experience

I think so too
It is definitely not fake.
You can test by going to dialer and typing *#*#64663#*#*
In that test mode you can test each camera lens ( finger over lens) and that will verify both cams do in fact "work"
Not saying the software actually uses both, but the cams are in fact real

Im not so sure in my case:laugh::laugh::laugh:
edit:same for dual back camera
With the stock camera app, it does work correctly. Perhaps you should contact warranty...
The portrait mode that focus only on what is close must be a proof that the second camera works, right?
If you cover the second camera in potrait mode in stock cam app, you will see that it is not working properly anymore
the 2nd camera only there to enhance DOF information
not to actually take a picture.
front camera is also able to fake the DOF but its slower and not so accurate when compared to the rear camera

This works for me! Thanks. I don't know why others doubt their smartphones
i also use this model and i think that secondary dual cam is just for show off it does not do any thing. its a mimic only for branding purpose.
So many people have no idea what they bought.
The first sensor is a 12MPx Sony sensor (bottom one) that captures standard photos, in focus.
The second sensor is a 5MPx Samsung sensor (top one) that analyzes the whole frame and returns RAW depth data for the camera app to process, to bring a better blur effect for the portrait mode.
This is a bonus to the classic software portrait mode, it helps. It's not useless, and it's not for show off.
The fact that it doesn't work as good in dark environment is because the Samsung sensor is cheap and can't give enough data in darkness.
Now, let's see when both cameras work at the same time (not applicable on this device):
- when the secondary sensor is black and white, this helps the pictures get more dynamic range
- when the secondary sensor is the same as the other sensor, this is used for 3D imaging (chech HTC 3D)
Now when 2 modules work independently and can be switched via software:
- when the main lens are normal and the other lens are wide lens
- when the main lens are normal and the other lens are zoom lens
Now, our device doesn't fit in either of the above categories and the best way to use the Portrait mode is to use a ToF sensor, but baring in mind the price of our device the ToF sensor was replaced with a standard, low quality camera sensor from Samsung.
