In case anyone is interested. I have a MilestoneX (DroidX variant) with an Otterbox case on it. I really wanted a dock for my truck but obviously the Motorola one doesn't work with an Otterbox without modification. In searching for the perfect mount I came across the almost perfect solution at http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com The mounts run right around $25 but of course they don't trigger the Car Dock app like the Motorola one. I did some searching on the web to find out what tells the phone that it's on a multimedia/car dock and turns out it's a magnet. After playing with the magnets from a restaurant name tag I discovered that one polarity activates the multimedia dock and the other activates the car dock A little super glue and some drying time later and I have a car dock that mimics the Moto dock with Otterbox intact and it was a good bit cheaper too!
Yeah those guys do make the best docks besides the OEM stuff, still sucks that you have to plug in a cord every time you dock it though and a second 3.5mm jack for audio out unless using bluetooth... I just used a rocketfish case and a little time with a dremel to make the Moto dock work with a case and it is by far the slickest setup I've ever had with a car accessory. I do wish I had known about these guys when I was using my Epic 4G though, I had a Seidio ActiveX case on that and my god I HATE the clamp style universal mounts. I'm sorry but those things are trash and look like crap too.
I just wish more manufacturers (looking straight at you HTC), would realize that the majority of people out there (or at least people I know) use cases and don't like the fact that they can't use the good docks with their case. I mean seriously, deductibles are often $80+ up to $99 for some people even if you do have phone insurance. Not having a case=1 "oh chit" and there goes $100 down the drain and no phone for 2 days while they ship you a new one. Every time I see someone with a naked phone, especially an iCrap, I just shake my head.
That's awesome! Ill have to look into one of these, I use an old Life Hacker binder clip mount I made about a year ago, works well but I have been thinking about getting something nicer.

Folks can anyone recommend a decent car mount for the note? I don't want to use any adhesive or suction cup types since I am scared of those falling off.
Thanks

I've used a 'breffo spiderpodium' and found it pretty good.cheap and simple
Yeah but the official Samsung one uses a suction cup
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note using Tapatalk
the official samsung units have an amazing suction cup.
I had an official Samsung car dock for my P1000 Tablet, There was no way in hell that thing was ever going to fall off.
even sitting on the windshield in 40degC days (Australian summer), and cool night temp changes didn't move that sucker.
Hell, I had struggles getting it to release when I wanted it to release...
Samsung dont skimp on their kit... its why it costs so much more.
I have a proclipusa car mount. So I recently got the Regular Adjustable Holder with Tilt/Swivel here. You can get Proclipusa holders with the charging ports built-in as well specifically designed for the Note - but I wanted something I can use for future devices if needed. The adjustable holder works with my thin Rearth Ringke Slim case as well. I think I may need to add some extra padding to make it a little more snug and secure feeling. It seems to wobble a bit because the slot is a bit thicker than the Note (crazy thin btw).
I use a PHONEclip, which attaches the G-Note directly to the steering Wheel.
You can find detailed info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22252176&postcount=24
In the same thread also more info about the above mentioned 'breffo spiderpodium'
Went on Amazon, spiderpodium reviews were mixed, many found it to be very low quality construction.
That steering wheel clip sounds interesting, unfortunately I have a boxwave case on my phone. Probably wont fit.
Are there any US etailers selling the official Samsung one?

Mounting your Note on your steering wheel is not a good idea if you have an airbag... Just saying.

hahahaha!!! So true and so unintentionally funny to envision, in mid-air-bag-deployment-to-face-contact! lmao
I can see the coroner's quote now:
"There's a good chance he'd have survived the impact with no more than a contusion and a couple of scrapes, but the force of the air-bag drove his near tablet-sized device clear through his skull and out the back side of his spinal column in what appears to be less time than it takes a humming bird to make a single wing-flap."
hmmm, you have a point there. So it's a choice between convenience or safety, difficult decision...
To answer seriously, I've checked it on my car and I think that it isn't a problem. The PHONEclip is made from a very strong material. So in stead of breaking, I expect it to work like a hinge and simply turn over the top of the steering wheel.
Proclip = Brodit
IMHO
for all my previous and recent smartphones I ever used Proclip holders in my car(s)
The Proclip platform is specific to each car model and the holder(s) are specific to each smartphone. I am using active holders with charging and I am very satisfied with it every time.
No excluding with my newest Samsung Galaxy Note too
I have the Samsung Car mount, and I am very disappointed.
It is a pain to insert the phone in the very tight clips, then you have to slide the usb connector into the phone, an exercise that takes two hands.
Further it does not accomodate even the very thin Samsung flip cover.
It forces the phone into car mode, which requires voice input - which does not work. - at least with my voice. I cannot call 'Nora' it will only find Laura - and I don't have a strong accent. It has no means of understanding what 'Home' means.
And now, after a month, it appears that contacts inside the car unit are flakey - the phone goes crazy when I plug it in.
So great phone, but they screwed up royally on the car mount.
So where can I get this Samsung Car Mount?
Mountek
Mountek has a universal car mount that sits in your CD slot for around $20.

Yeah, I'm a geek with no fashion sense but I'm happy and the Note is always with me, handy, and well protected.
I've got the Seidio active with kickstand case for protection and so I can wear it on my belt.
I run several times a week here in Houston and I sweat like a pig. So I put the note with its case inside a LokSak bag. The Loksak'ed Note goes inside a SPIbelt for workouts so I can use the Zephyr bluetooth heart rate monitor and my Jaybird headphones while I run.
For the car, I've got the X mount from RAM Mounts. It is a snug fit but with a little practice I can get it in and out of the cradle without taking off the case.
For the bicycle / motorcycle I've got the RAM mount Aquabox. The fit is perfect, it is a friction fit in the frame of the aquabox. The aquabox is way too deep but for now I just store my wallet there. Eventually I will try to throw an extended battery there if I can figure out the electrical connection. Touch events don't work through the plastic screen cover but if I hope to cannibalize a spen for a workaround.
Hope this helps some note accessory freaks.
Can you actually see where you're driving in your car with the Note directly in front of you?!
I've got my mount clipped to an air vent, still in reach and doesn't get in the way of my view! Also, your Note won't get fried by the sun on a hot day, instead it'll be cooled by the AC.
I like the decorative stand(?) in pics 5 and 6 the most

It looks bad in the picture but sitting in the car you are much higher and it does not block much view. I'll put it this way, if something is close enough to be obscured from that angle, you're already gonna hit it anyway .
you have more accessories that the chinese sellers on ebay!
Geez dude, do you go cycling through waterfalls? You could put that mount on a submarine!
Glad to see there's at least a lot of accessory support for the Galaxy Note
which size aquabox do you have?
I'd guess the medium/wide one, but please verify.

I don't have pics of my setup, but it's pretty similar to this, just without the swivel:

Search for "air vent mount carkit" or something like that, they're pretty common. The one I got is a universal one, not specifically to the Note. IMO, much more convenient, because other people can use it too. And you don't have to get rid of it when you get your Note 2

According to my Amazon order history, 4.5" by 7"
I mostly row and jog, and I've found the armband makes me unbalanced because of the extra weight on one arm. Have any of y'all found an alternative to this? I would really like to listen to music through my phone, but if I can't find some alternative to an armband, I might just get one of those small clip-on iPod Nanos.
Thinking about getting a Samsung HS3000 bluetooth headphone adapter for the treadmill/wearing shorts. (thread here someplace about it.)
Ipod nano or a Sansa clip might be a more reasonable solution though.

I don't use a treadmill; I actually go running, like outdoors, so I need something to fasten the phone to my body.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of armbands, especially w/ a phone the size of the GSIII, it would be quite cumbersome.
I've used a Tune Belt sport belt forever while working out @ the gym & running. I originally bought it for a minidisc player like 6-7 years ago but also used it for my iPod 5G & my current Nexus S in a tpu case. It's still in great shape today, no rips/tears or anything. The fact that I still use it today speaks to its durability & quality. I'm getting the GSIII soon tho & so I'll probably have to upgrade my tune belt as well, luckily they have one for large phones now.

Bluetooth headset and a plastic baggie do the trick for me. The phone goes into a pocket in my shorts and the headset lets me ff, rw, stop and play the music. Sandwich bags keep moisture from getting into the phone.
Low tech but it works.

I just don't like the phone moving around in my pocket while exercising. If it were a treadmill, I could just set the phone in the cupholder and use the clip-on Bluetooth headset people have been recommending, but I need something that will prevent the phone from moving while on my body.

This is interesting. A belt for your phone? I'll try to find one that fits the S III.
I actually started running last week and an armband works pretty fine... Before that I had a belt kinda thing but it still bounces too much and is quite annoying, an armband is pretty well fixed and when tied around the upperarm, you hardly feel it's there.
But appearantly for you it is, hmmm... Belt would be worth a try then, it's more centered I guess. Perhaps mine just didn't fit properly.
Belt Clip the way to go.
I hate the armband thing. When you flex you bicep it tightens up too much.
When I had a iPhone I used the Mareware Sportshell and loved it! It had both armband and belt clip. I only ever used the belt clip. I CANNOT find anything else like it so far for the S3.
This is the site for the SportShell: New user so I can't post it but just Google it.

Hey folks,
Not sure if you're familiar with monoprice, but if you aren't...you should be. I've been buying things like tv mounts and audio cables from them for a LONG time now...since back when HD TVs first came out and people would want $200 for a wall mount and another $100 for an HDMI cable.
Anyway, I was looking for some filler the other day, when I bought a new tv mount and needed to hit a certain point to use a coupon and wandered past their cell phone car mount. I had been kicking around the idea of getting the official Motorola unit for a while now, but the price always threw me off.
Well, the Monoprice unit is $7.05. And it works AWESOME! Fits the phone like a glove.

Anyway, just wanted to share. I've been through some universal docks in my day, and they usually suck after a while. And then my wife and I share a car, but my phone is caseless and hers has a case, so the official one was kind of up in the air.
Looks nice, thought i would share the one i am using right now

I found it locally, but for the same price.
I love this thing, it grips the device great, and the suction cup will go almost anywhere you want. I have mind suctioned to the top of my dash of my 08 dodge caliber. Even tho the dashboard is textured with some pretty deep ridges it sticks great!
Only con i would give it is that the grip is a little too tight, making one hand operation difficult. you can remove the device from the mount with one hand, however installing the phone into it usually requires use of your second hand to open the drip far enough. However it is a comfort knowing that it moto x isn't going to fall out.

Hey @SubliminalME, I recently picked one of these up, it does fit very well. Problem is that it either blocks the headphone jack or the charging port, depending on which way you put the phone in the mount. Have you found a way around this?
i bet you could drill a hole in the single mount pretty easily.
the better question (for me) is whether the phone can be positioned in the mount without blocking the camera. a windshield mount is only useful to me if i can use the camera. otherwise, it's going in a cupholder.
The Monoprice one is showing out of stock!! :/

I ordered two of these and they came in the other day. Surprisingly, it fits well with the Seidio Dilex case. My concern was that there wouldn't be room for the integrated kickstand on the back of the case, bit there's just enough room for it.
I have an adhesive mounted Garmin-compatible ball (~17mm) on my dash that works perfectly with it.
i've got mine, but haven't taken it out of the box yet!
In for one
Thanks for the heads-up! Always have loved Monoprice and I can't bring myself to go the imagnet route (ie pop off the back) on the X. This should be a nice cheap compromise, especially since I already have the garmin ball installed in both my cars.
The best that I've ever used is the Tetrax Xway. PRevents the phone from overheating by clipping in front of the A/C, and works with nearly every phone/case combo. I've used it through my Droid Incredible, Galaxy S2, and Galaxy S4 GPE with numerous cases.
