Volume goes out, smack to fix - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I have a issue with my xl....my sound randomly goes so low it's barely hearable if I put my ear up to the bottom. The volume goes back all the way up once I smack the back of the phone in the middle. Anyone seen this before?

Lip smack or hand smack.........LoL

Your speakers could be blown, idk approximately what level do you have the volume at?

If you generally smack your phone to try to fix things, there's a chance that you've smacked something loose.

One day it just stopped working and I set it down on the table then noticed the sound came back....then it went out the next day. I tapped it on the back kinds by the g logo on the back. My sound came back.

[Q] HTC Desire Z: No sound from speaker, media/ringtones/notifications

Just yesterday night I found out that I can't get any sound from my phone. Not even notifications sound work, or those ticky sounds what are heard when you turn ringtone volume up or down to hear the level. I have no idea how they are missing now... I dropped my HTC Desire Z in the water weeks ago and some say there can occur problems a long time after water damage, is this true?
I don't remember dropping my phone lately, but I may have dropped it yesterday by accident, but it was not a big drop. There could be a slight possibility tha the speaker died?
When I plug my earphones in, I get sound normally. This indicates to speaker damage indeed. What do you think? Does warranty cover this? I have no idea what causes this. Task killer maybe?
Sorry for the double post, but just bumping and reporting about this issue. Just tested calling from other phone, and the speaker mode won't work. I hear voice normally from internal speaker. I use Automatic Task Killer and there was "Music" -app in kill list, but it adding it to the white list did not affect in anything... besides plus music nothing else with sound works, without plugging in the headphones of course.
I really don't use ringtones that much, but I would like to show some youtube videos to friend with sound sometimes, or speak with speaker on if my hands are not available... this really sucks. ANY thoughts? What should I do?
The unexpected happened!
Haha, this is unbelievable! My 2 year old daughter got my phone for some reason and as soon as I noticed of course I told her "no! give it back" and as soon as she noticed I noticed she's having the phone, she threw it to the wall! (she was standing on the bed and the phone fell down quite a long way). The back cover fell off and I thought the phone is broken for good... since I had already dropped it to the water couple of months ago as you may know.
Well, shouted at my daughter for what she did. Then picked up the phone and put back the back cover. And guess what? The sounds work! Nothing wrong with them, or the phone! Tested out and everything works like charm! Haha I'm laughing my ass of, miracles sure happen!
If YOU have sound problems, don't start to bash your phone please
can u gimme the winning lottery numbers
pimped out g2
Today I went to swimming and dropped while changing to swimwear dropped my pants down while my phone was in the pocket. At home I noticed the sounds are not working again! So I recalled what happened and dropped my pants again in the same way, and the sounds were back again..
So I guess my phone can't stand any more knocks or drop downs... so I try to be really careful in the future. Thank god there is no touch-problems like in bad earbuds when the wire go bad and the sound comes only from the other one, like that I should always keep the phone in right position sounds to work... that would be nightmare.
Just reporting if you out there possibly have similar problems. It can all be symptomps from dislocated speaker like in my case.
Sound is back ...I'm a hard head
I too had lost sound after dropping ...After reading the warning about no trying to bang it back .............well what can I say , I put on the media with music and tapped it on the counter , NO Luck . Being hard headed I then started to slap it into the palm of my hand with a good snap ...Presto magic sound is back . Do not try this at home kids .

T989 Proximity Sensor Issues

Hey guys, I just picked up a sgs2 and the phone is amazing. The only real problem that makes me want to throw this out the window is the darn proximity sensor every time I talk to someone. If it is on my left ear, the screen goes blank and everything is fine. If I try to talk using my right ear, the screen goes blank and then after 3-5 seconds, turns back on and then off, etc. It is a never ending process and I have tried to position my phone in different ways on my right ear to stop this with no luck. Sooo frustrating. Anyone else come by this issue or heard of anything like this before?
never had this issue....what rom are you on?

Maybe your right ear is way smaller than your left jk. I dont have this issue but the sensor is on one side of the phone it could be an issue with the way your right side comes in contact with it.

Just stock, I am beginning to believe I am deformed Lol must be the case
OMG! sorry but that made me crackle in LMAO
anyways... if you notice on the phone the sensor is on the Top left, where the FFC is located
so probably when you use it on the other side, it's not detecting any face/ear/obstacle for it to activate itself

Speaker making slight hissing and a click noise

Is anyone getting these slight clicking noise from the speaker whenever the phone is in use, like opening an app for example. I got my phone phone from the launch event (5th in line!! ) and i only noticed when it was really quiet in my room these noises came from the speakers.
To check, open an app and quickly put your ear to the speaker and I hear a hissing noise then a soft click. Always happens when i open an app!
I went back to Phones4U, the guy could tell it was faulty so I got it replaced..now same problem!! (not as loud as before, but still there)
Anyone having the same problem? can anyone check for me? this can't be normal!

Yeah I have that problem. It's one of those things that you don't really notice until you know it's there, then you hear it all the time
Someone on another forum posted they had the same, so it might not be an isolated problem.
Isn't that just the touch click?
Try Settings/Sound/Touch sounds.
Personally I rather like it..

No, I have that turned off.
It happens whenever the speaker is used - when the sound stops there is a quiet hiss, followed by a pop as the speaker switches off.
Try it - hold the speaker right up to your ear, and use the volume rocker to hear the beep. Afterwards there is hiss followed by a pop.
It's not noticeable enough to be an issue (for me) in normal use, but you can hear it if you're in a quiet room.

I can hear it on my G2x... I'm sure it's not an issue and your just being paranoid because you dropped a whole bunch of cash on a new phone

The click comes like 3 seconds after you make an input, so it doesn't sound right and it just sounds random (and annoying).
thanks tho!
Edit: Turning off Touch sounds, seems to stop it, whenever im using the phone..but yeah still happens whenever the speaker is in use but that i can live with that!

Happens with my OG Droid. I only started noticing it one late night when for no reason I had the speaker right up next to my ear.
I don't think it's anything to worry about

Heh, that's certainly got something to do with it
As I say it's not really an issue, and it's not unique to this phone (as you point out). Just one of those annoying niggles - it depends on how sensitive you are to these things
Yes - I have the same problem with my new Galaxy Nexus. In fact, even if it's not a problem for most people, I'd say it is a problem for Samsung because I returned my phone yesterday and got it swapped out. The new one has the same problem, so I assume it's an Android software problem rather than a hardware glitch.
So that's at least two returns caused by this problem. Hope we get a fix at some point!
p.s. Phone is great by the way, even with the annoying click.
Guys
This is hardware problem. And it happens on most of the speakers however its more or less noticeable on some devices.
I have quite good quality monitors (studio speakers) and i can hear something hissing in the back.
Let me put it that way.
Every speaker needs electricity to work. The noise you are hearing is the actual electric current coming through the speakers. The sudden pop and lack of the hiss means that speaker has been turned off. For obvious reasons there is no point for the speaker to work constantly....

I can't hear any click when I plug headphones in, so maybe you're right - the click could be when the amplifier that powers the internal speaker turns off...
However, for some reason I still get a click if the phone is in silent mode. I guess putting it in silent mode doesn't guarantee it keeps the amplifier turned off.
I hope it's just the speakers; the DAC in my HD2 hissed for a few seconds after any sounds even through my headphones. The hissing was always there when there was sound. It was quite depressing. I'm hoping for a good DAC in the Galaxy nexus.
I've got a click (sounds just like a quite speaker pop) from the back cover.
Turn your GN over and push the back cover, on the "Google" logo (below the camera flash). Then quickly release your finger.
Sometime it can happen with only the lightest of touches. If i put my phone down on my chest, the pick it up.
If you look really closely you can see the cover moving just below the camera surround.
Issue has been reported to google.

I have this issue on my gnex. Its def a sw problem. I took the back cover off and still have the issue.
slightly different, but also hiss related...
my rezound does the same thing when headphones(or aux to car) are plugged in and nothing is playing. once you start to play something you don't notice it. and its a confirmed issue.
It's a hardware issue guys, depends on the audio chip I believe. Impedance-related.
Here is the other thread with this annoying sound

It isn't just on the speaker either. Atleast on my Galaxy Nexus, I can hear it when listening on high end professional in-ear headphones. I can verify that it is almost certainly a signal isolation problem. The activity causes the DAC (the thing that makes a digital signal into an analog signal that speakers and headphones need) to kick on for a few seconds and until it shuts off you can hear the noise coming out of the DAC. It's pretty substantial on mine though, so I'm wondering if I got a bad unit. I'll have to stop by a Verizon Wireless store and plug in to the display unit to see if it is any better. I never noticed this on my Galaxy S (Fascinate).
My unit is also affected, it was made in Vietnam. I checked the Google Code issue tracker link (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22307) and I can see many people confirming this also. This is definitely not how the speaker should work - I checked another Samsung phone (SGS II) and there's no such "clicks". There's some silent noise but not the click.
I can hear it from the speaker only, not through the headphones.
I think many users are unaware of the issue because it is often only noticeable in a silent environment.
Yes getting same issue. Have tried different ROMS to no avail

[Q] In Ear Speaker Problems

So the speaker on my phone is giving me problems. Its kind of hard to explain, but it kind of crackles/pops some times... Maybe really high pitched at times. and other times it cuts in and out. With very occasionally i cant hear anything out of it.
Little back story. it was kinda crackling a few months back nothing major. Then I set it on the top of my dresser and it fell onto a metal step ladder. (fell about 6-7 feet and hit on the top of the phone) As always i have a case and the screen didnt break thankfully. But it made the speaker started acting up to the point where phone calls are almost impossible to get through. I went ahead and replaced the speaker, put it back together, and its slightly better, but still not sounding right, and still makes making phone calls unbearable. I Unrooted my phone, just to see if it was the rom and still nothing. so I went ahead and re-rooted again. (couldn't hurt right? ) Am i missing something?? It seems to me like a hardware problem but i dont know what else I'm missing?
Thanks for your help.

[Q] Rattling in near the ear?

I noticed if I put the volume high when on a call there's this buzzing/rattling in the earpiece. Should I be worried? After hearing this the first time I shook my phone and it sounds like something is loose near that area. Anyone else have the same rattle?

Yep, I've had the same issue and noticed that many models in the store had the same issue. I didnt worry about the replacement, because the replacement might have new defects/issues... Just saying... Live with it Bro !
