Worth it to update to Nougat now?

I have an update pending for 3 weeks now, but I did read that there were some problems.
With the Playstore, ringer volume, battery, wireless, photo quality and focus..
Not sure if those are exceptions (since people with problems are much louder), or a rule..
Is there a OP3 Nougat review somewhere, that lists potential bugs?

I make it a point to clean flash after backing up. I am using only OOS from the beginning. And as far as possible I download from the original source. It may delay the availability but every single download and installation is successful. The only time I faced an issue was when I downloaded OOS recovery image from a posted link and not from OP website. I am not saying that all posted links are bad but most of the issues arise from bad downloads, not following the directions scrupulously and updating (as against a clean install).
I am yet to face any serious issues.

I hestitated to move from 3.2.8 to N, mainly because of lack of xposed and custom kernel support but also due to some bug reports. 10 days ago I finally did it and don't regret it at all! Made a full backup of my userdata to PC (TWRP and Titanium) and then a clean flash of OOS 4.0.2. Rooted and now I also run the latest eng.stk kernel. Totally satisfied, although I still miss xposed...

You want xposed now = dont update
You can wait for exposed = update
In my eyes there is no other reason than xposed not to update

I couldn't live without xposed and I kept on coming back to 3.2.8 ...

it is because of gravitybox but the features i want most are: hardware button remapping, net speed meter in statusbar and percentage battery icon (i know 3minit, but dont really like it).
and ofc also youtube adaway and youtube background playback.

Still rocking op3lite (oos 3.2.7)

unlock bootloader and install TWRP, make a backup and then download Experience ROM and flash, so if u do not like nougat u can just go back to MM easily

The 4.0.2 update is great, I see the battery lasts more time (best I did was 48 hours active with 4 hours of screen time and 4 of call time, localization always active to high precision), the phone is super fast, so what else do you want?

I'm very happy with 4.0.2 as a light user. The battery is certainly better and I typically get around 3 hours SOT with 3 days of standby. :victory:
There are a few minor bugs but on the whole, its a great update.
Hats off to OnePlus. :highfive:

Big 'NO' if you travel a lot and come across situations like you roam between various networks. Because playstore doesn't download a thing on mobile data while roaming. It is not a OnePlus 3 specific issue tho.
Edit: Playstore bug seems to be fixed now. I must say it is safe to upgrade to 7.1.1. Running stable and smooth now.

Apps in full screen (18:9) on 8.1ROM

Hi everyone,
I switched last monday on official LineageOS 15.1 ROM and I noticed that not every apps are working in full screen because of the 18:9 size of the OnePlus 5T.
There was an option to force apps in full screen on OOS 5.0 ROM but I never used it, all apps was fitting perfectly the screen.
So I have two questions, first is this happening in every other ROM than OOS ? Maybe I have to wait for LineageOS to add 18:9 screen support.
Second question, is there any way, an apps or maybe an xposed framework module, to make apps fit perfectly the 18:9 screen ?

Thanks for your answer but it is not the problem, even with expended desktop activated, apps doesn't completely fit the screen.

On OOS, the feature “Full Screen Apps” is enabled by default for all apps, and if you have compatibility issues, you can disable them on a per app basis.
To my knowledge, no custom ROMs have this feature.
Apps like Waze and Spotify which are not updated for 18:9 displays will NOT fill the entire screen and will leave a black bar where the nav bar should be.

Yes I understood that, hope LineageOS developers will include this feature soon, specially now with official support of OnePlus 5T.
But I was hoping a possible trick or a xposed module...

Thank you for this thread. I have tried almost all custom roms for this device and so far I have seen only Nougat based roms or OOS roms does support full screen Pokemon Go. Is there any other Oreo custom rom with that full screen option?

Sultans 14.1 rom for 5T actual works as expected. Not sure why 15.1 roms don't work

I'm on OB6, RR6.0, LineageOS 15.1 and on some apps, mostly in landscape mode, i can see only the half of the app.
The other half of the screen is black.

You can do it by yourself. Decompile the incompatible apk and edit the androidmanifest.xml Just insert this
<meta-data android:name="android.max_aspect" android:value="2.1" />
under the application tag in the manifest file.
After that just recompile and sign/zipalign apk and install it.
Use Apk-tool its free and works very well
Ps i could also do it for you and upload the files

So magisk module should be able to do this for all apps ?
Not gonna do that when most used apps update on a regular basis.

Finally there is now a 8.1 custom rom which does support Expanded Desktop feature with fully working fulll screen support.

OmniRom and crDroid have a scaling feature for apps just flash one of them. I will do it anyways wait a minute I will send you the link

[8.1] [Magisk Module] Multi-Touch Fix for 8.1 Devices

Hello guys and girls,
As some of you already know Android 8.1 suffers from a severe Multi-Touch Issue. This issues makes the smartphone randomly jumping between the two touching points on the screen when touching with two or more fingers.
The issue is known to google since the preview of 8.1. It isn´t only affecting pixel but most probably all devices running 8.1. The issue is also present on P.

There is a fix since mid march in review on google gerrit. But that didn´t make it into the april release, obviously.

This is especially bad for gamers. With the recent release of PUBG this issues seems dramatic to some, less to others.
I´m no gamer but I noticed the issue on the google foto app.
This issue has nothing to do with the corners badly reacting to touches, or touch sensitivity etc.
So but now to the fix. It seems the issues is only related to resampling but not to touching specific points of the screen ( not related to crossing x and y axis).
That also explains why the issue wasn´t happening when using the touch tracking tool in dev settings but on various multi touch test apps.

Last week I compiled myself a DU build with the changes included and I couldn´t trigger the issue at all. I found no other side effects caused by the two patches.
For now I decided to provide a Magisk Module which replaces the changed libs that fixes the issue.
I compiled the libs while doing my april build of DU. The magisk module can be found on the link a little bit down.

A few disclaimers here.
1. That fix should in theory work for most 8.1 devices, including the likes of pixel 1st gen, pixel 2nd gen, one plus, xiaomi which suffer from this severe issue.
It seems devices with oos on 8.1 ( op5/t) cannot use this mod.
AOSP and LOS roms should be okay.
2. I didn´t fix this, I just compiled the libs with the fix found on google gerrit.
3. Rom devs you are very welcome to include this fix. I found no ill consequences as of yet but I can understand google taking it slow and reviewing it longer. Maybe they will find a better fix, but as of now this is the best thing we have.

In the meantime i removed the p tag from the thread title.
Could be That there are additional changes in p that make this libs unusable and only workable on 8.1.
Unfortunately there is afaik no complete source for p yet. So I can’t compile them specifically for p.

Fixed for me!! I only ever noticed the issue when pinch/zooming images on Instagram.. it's gone! Using the April update of 8.1 ... Thanks!!!

I never had this issue but it's good to know there's a fix..I'm on the p preview so I'm not sure if I will ever have this issue and no one reported it in my builds but I will include the fix anyways that way no one has to do anything. Good catch

I also thought at first I didn’t have this issue at all.
But once I triggered it accidentally I experienced it many times. Maybe I just learnt what to look for.
Another fun thing is. A friend of mine also got the pixel XL 2 and I could reproduce it right away on his locked phone which is stock 8.1.
I can also trigger it on my pixel C tablet.

That is really weird, because even when I quoted you, then hit "preview post" to see what it would look like, it still didn't work inside the quote.

Now it all fixed.
The corner two still has less sensitivity, but previously all edge zone were patchy, full of red zone.
And considering am using full cover glass protector. This is amazing work !

What app did you use for that test?

I've experienced lack of touch response quite often. It's weird and seemingly random. I just flashed this on 8.1 with magisk. I don't have any results yet, but based on what everyone else is saying, this is a solid fix. Thanks for your work!
Do we have to worry about removing this in the future if google updates fix the issue too? Will this being on the system cause conflicts and issues?

[Xposed] (Security) Disable Quick Settings Pulldown on Lock Screen

This is just a simple Xposed module that disables pulling down the notification shade / quick settings tiles while on the lock screen (but doesn't break media player controls on lock screen). Only tested on Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL on Android 10 (more on this later).
Background: This has always been an annoying aspect of Android for me, and it's dumb from a security standpoint. Being able to pull down the quick settings tiles on a locked phone is dumb. Why hasn't Android natively built this in yet? Using this and Gravity Box to disable power menu on lock screen makes me feel a lot better in the event my phone ever gets lost or stolen. It's dumb that anyone can steal your phone and immediately toggle your settings (turn off WiFi, Mobile Data, toggle Airplane Mode, etc) and/or turn the phone off... I've been spoiled for years by the OG HTC devs (particularly LeeDroid and Team Venom) and their ROMs with these features baked in, so it's back to using Xposed to fill that gap for me and my wife, lol. Anyway, I pair these mods along with the Lockwatch app from Play Store and it gives me more peace of mind. Hey, anything to increase the chances of recovering a lost or stolen phone, am I right?
Credits / Technical Details: This module is based off of char101's published Xposed Repo module, and all credits and thanks should go to him. This is the first app / APK I've compiled so it was a nice learning experience, but it was all based off of his source and I really just needed to remove a few lines of code to get it to work properly with our phones. His mod worked fine and disabled the quick settings pull down on the lock screen, as intended. The problem was that it would also prevent media player controls from functioning (and I would assume other possible functions as well). To fix this, I just removed DISABLE2_NOTIFICATION_SHADE references from the code, leaving DISABLE2_NONE and DISABLE2_QUICK_SETTINGS untouched. The mod still works perfectly as intended. Only tested on Pixel 4 / 4 XL on Android 10. I'm sure it would work on other devices as well.
I really just did this on a whim for me and my wife's own phones and wasn't planning on sharing it, but I figure other people may have also wanted this for their P4's as well, so enjoy. Again, all thanks go to @char101!
Installation:
- Download .APK file attached to this post.
* If you have char101's original module installed already, I would highly recommend uninstalling it first.
- It's an Xposed module. Install the APK and enable in your Xposed Manager.
- Reboot and test.

Just noticed something that worried me at first, but turned out to be nothing of concern afaik, but in case anyone else gets spooked by it: I just noticed last night that if you launch the camera while on the lock screen, you can still pull down the notification shade. Same can be said for other apps that can be active over lock screen (e.g. Phone app during active call).
However, the quick settings are still inaccessible while locked. The notification contents that do show will follow the same rules as your settings, so if you have it set to hide sensitive notification content (which you probably should... otherwise 2-factor authentication is extremely pointless if your device were lost or stolen), you still won't be able to see the notification content itself, just that there is a pending notification for that particular app.
I hope you're finding the mod useful, for anyone who is using it. Please let me know if you find any issues with the module, thanks. I'm by no means a developer, but I have more free time than usual for obvious global reasons and it's a fun learning experience while the free time lasts. =)

I've been using the original NoQSInLockScreen, and while it did the job, it really bothered me that you couldn't use media controls on the lock screen (or expand notifications).
This mod took care of that problem. Really happy with it!

Just wanted to let you know, as a fellow (now former) user of this mod, that I found a better way of doing this! So just thought I'd share:
Using GravityBox app for EdXposed framework you can simply define which individual QS tiles you want to secure. That way you still have access to the QuickSettings pulldown menu from the lockscreen (unlike this mod which disables it altogether), but things like Wi-Fi, Location, Airplane Mode etc. are secure and not accessible until you've unlocked your phone. It's a much more practical and elegant solution in my opinion.

As @nanquan mentioned (a long time ago, lol), you can also achieve (essentially) the same thing by using GravityBox. It is indeed a more "elegant" solution, and since I already use GravityBox heavily, I now just use GB's tweaks to lock down the main comm tiles.
But I'm glad this still works, for those who still prefer to use it for whatever reason. I can see it still being useful if you have a lot of custom QS tiles and want to keep it all locked down.

As well as enabling the module you need to tick the checkbox for 'system framework' and 'system ui'.

The world of development on pixel 2 XL devices is huge, I have gotten used to turning on the flashlight by pressing the edges of my phone with AOISP rom, the problem is that I cannot change rom due to almost no developer includes the Active Edge code by Google licenses. Is there any way that I can install it through Magisk / Xposed, or anything on a rom that doesn't support it? I want to change to a rom that supports face unlock. From already thank you very much. And I thank with all my support to the developers, who do an amazing job, greetings from Argentina. :laugh:

I think the only rom that still has faceunlock and active edge is pixeldust. It's a Motorola feature that is being pulled because they put up a stink over it.
Roms with active edge are abc, dirty unicorns and aosip

It's a bug that should be fixed today if you're talking about pixeldust. Normally it has it

Usually it would be found in a pixel gestures category. In Dirty Unicorns it's found in multitasking

PixelDust has a working ActiveEdge that you can remap to do any action that you want. I currently have it set to squeeze for screenshots.

Forgot about Bliss, it has both as well
