Esim - Samsung Galaxy Watch

Hi,
I am from Thailand and here you can only buy the Bluetooth version, so I bought my watch overseas (lte version).
Now here is my issue :
The 3 providers here does offer esim but they say to only support the Apple iPhones and watches, so my question is can I somehow bypass this so my samsung phone will pass the registration screen because now it say : mobile network can not be setup from this phone...
Since it's esim is this really a big difference if Apple or Samsung to use/activate it?

The issue are the providers not the watch, in my country right now only 1 has it enabled for the galaxy watch while all of them are working with the apple watch. You will need to wait until they set up the compatibility.

So basicly there is no way to (trick) the system into thinking it's apple watch?

Right now I think it can't be done because it's something a lot of providers are working to make it happen sooner than later(here a lot of them are going to make it available in a year or less) and no one is going work on how to trick the watch while knowing it's going to happen anyway.
Ask to your provider if they are working on it, look if any other provider in your country is going to do it and as a last resort keep looking on the forums to see if someone tries to do it.

Is that really a sucg big difference ?
I mean this are basicly only settings right?

I don't know what the providers need to do, they maybe need to implement something with samsung, set up some settings on their network or whatever.
It should be some settings because esim is just a chipset inside of the device.
I know that to set up esim for the galaxy watch you need to go through the gear app and scan a qr code or at least that is how it works in here, while on apple watch I think that you input some data manually(don't know where, how and what really because I don't care about apple things too much).
So maybe it's something that needs to work on the app and isn't available yet in some cases.
Whatever the reason I think it isn't as easy as it should yet, and that's why some people wait for their provider, change to one that supports it or just completely ignore the lte and get the Bluetooth version.

No data allowed.

Hi guys,
I have the N5100 3G version. I have had it since may and it has worked well. However, since yesterday, Three UK started blocking me from using data. It says I have to get a tablet sim. The problem is I don't want to loose the ability to make phone calls.
Has anyone had an issue like this?
I'm also having the same issue, I have spoken to three support today at length with the result being "we can sell you a mobile broadband plan sim that you can swap out for data" - it appears that Three have launched the LTE version on the note 8 as a tablet only device (ie, no phone or text) and so are blocking all versions of the note 8 under that ruling.
I'm going to try and get to talk to someone not loacted in India tomorrow to look into this as this is my main device for phone calls aswell as data and I'm locked into the one plan for another 9 months!

Yay, I am not the only one! I am really disappointed with it. They don't seem to understand me, I also use it as my main device. I do wonder how they identify the device, it would be good if we could change it so they think its a phone.

We 5100 owners in the US want the exact opposite: tablet plans are so much cheaper, we wish it were recognized as tablets instead of phones! If they are identifying your device by imei number, you may be able to get around it by using an imei from an LTE version. I had a similar issue (in reverse) and that's how it was resolved. I may eventually get caught, but for now, I'm flying under the radar.

How difficult was that to do?
Be careful talk of changing imei is against the TOS on these forums. As tempting as it sounds it is both dangerous and legally dubious. It is a common tactic used by phone thieves to activate stolen phones. Also modifying such information can render your phone a paper weight if not careful.

Samsung pay in Canada

Does anyone have Samsung pay working on there A70 in Canada? I am on the bell network and it keeps coming up that my device is not compatible in the galaxy store?

Same as I'm seeing as Samsung Pay, GPay and others won't work. I am on Freedom Mobile and Rogers (personal and work sims). I can't even install Samsung Pay, GPay installs but just does not work.
I did get RBC Wallet to work, so if your bank has their own app then that might be the method to get NFC payments working.

Samsung pay was one of the factors to me for upgrading to the A70. I was thinking of flashing the Canadian software for the A705W via Odin but I am pretty sure that won't help.

Please Fill In Some Blanks For Me If You Don't Mind..
So.. you are in Canada, and they have a version of the A70 ( The A705W you mentioned ) that is native to that region and it comes with Samsung Pay already installed?
If that's the case.. may I ask, are you a transplant to that region? why did you not buy a SM-A705W from the start?
I may be *100% Wrong*.... but after my MANY conversations with Samsung Pay Tech Support they said there was no way around it.. that, there are enough Red Flags that a device knows its not in it's intended region and will not allow you to setup Samsung Pay in a different region than where the device was meant to be sold.
S-Pay would not even show up in the Playstore.. Google's or Samsung's for me. I sideloaded it.. older versions.. older framework.. Nada.... Nothing.
But I No Longer Care..
I went out today and tried Google Pay for the 1st time...

"EVERYPLACE " I shop.. Google Pay works! Even the Gas Pumps.. :good:
So that confirms for me that I'm keeping the A70... Now, Stereo Speakers are the only thing I feel is missing but Bluetooth earbuds and some 3.5mm stereo computer speakers in the garage really negate that final complaint.. So, I'm good with what the A70 brings to the table.. Battery and Screen are simply incredible for me.. Fingerprint Recognition is a non-issue on my unit.. as are Ghost Touches.. Face unlock is INSTANTANEOUS . :angel:
Final Question.. It's been so long since I've used Odin.. ( not since 2016 when I murdered my Note 4..) I can't remember... can you flash one software version over another without Root Access? if you can, then what you propose is most certainly worth a try.
But if you need Root Access to switch software versions.. you know you will trip Knox... and you will FOREVER loose the ability to use Samsung Pay..

Ok very valid points here. I did not buy the Canadian Variant as the A705W is $699 CND from the carriers here in Canada. I bought my 705MN unlocked from Amazon for $429 CND.
I have not used ODIN or rooted a phone since my S7 edge. I have yet to confirm if Samsung pay works on the Canadian variant or not. I asked a bell salesman and I got 2 different answers one yes and one no lol.
You are 100% correct that if Knox is tripped even flashing back to stock won't bring Samsung pay back (learned the hard way on my S7 edge).
I am loving the A70 as it is a nice upgrade in my opinion from my S7 edge. Only 3 down falls I have with the phone. Two are the same as you...No Samsung pay...no stereo speakers and no IP rating...other than that I love this device.

Hopefully.. going *Price vs Satisfaction* does not leave you with any remorse.

That's the ONLY thing that swayed the tide as far as me keeping this device.
I don't care about root anymore and it appears between Samsung's Lock on SD SoC's and Developers skipping this device at it's price point..Custom anything may be a No-Go.
So, with the A70's features and Good Lock and (for me) Superb Battery Life.. Widevine L1 and not forgettting G-Pay :good: I'm a happy camper.
At Least.. Until Black Friday / Cyber Monday...

Samsung pay does work here in Canada on all samsung flasgships from S7 up. Unfortunately not on the A70 I guess. I am going to look into Gpay as I hate carrying both a wallet and cell phone all the time lol... phone prices here in Canada are just ridiculous. A new S10+ is $1499 ( from carriers). I am hoping to get a good solid year out of this phone then I may just bite the bullet and go for a Note 10 or Note 11 by that time.

What is your exact model number

I have a Canadian A70 and I use Samsung Pay. You have to sideload the app though. Get it from apkmirror, along with Samsung Pay Framework so it's all up to date.
While you're at it, get Samsung Internet Browser from there as well. I honestly don't know why Samsung region locks so many of their apps or doesn't update the ones that are already in the device.

Were you able to get Google Pay working on your 705MN model in Canada?
Yes my bank does have an app and it works with NFC just fine. I don't understand why Samsung Pay isn't implemented on this model.

Samsung is particularly picky in allowing which of its phones access to Samsung Pay. If your phone isn't intended to be sold in your region(eg you're in Canada but using a Latin American A705MN model), then you won't be able to use Samsung Pay. Only if you had the Canadian specific A705W model would you then be allowed access to Samsung Pay.
I know it's very weird and anti consumer decision but Samsung does this to make the local wireless providers happy.
btw; which model do you have and what's your home country?

Making and receiving phone calls using eSIM

How are those with the LTE version able to make and receive phone calls in a "standalone" like version. Sprint agent claims that is impossible with this watch, but yet charges an arm and a leg to send "texts and receive data" WTH is that?

I found out just yesterday that Sprint doesn't support the ability to receive calls and text to the watch while away from your phone. Im a bit confused as to why they would 1) Sell me thw watch when that feature was the ONLY reason I was interested in purchasing this thing and 2) then sell me a service plan for a feature they dont even support. Extremely upsetting. The standalone feature does allow me to listen to music to Spotify using only the watch but not sure that alone is worth an extra monthly cost.
I'll be cancelling the service and sticking to my Garmin for fitness tracker and maybe using the Samsung as a daily watch.

I can make and receive calls and send texts in "standalone" mode on the lte version in the uk. When you buy the phone through your operator EE (has to be in uk) you gey unlimited calls/text and data on the phone

if the lte version of the watch is properly activated on the carriers side then calls can be done when phone is off. texts and emails dont work.
if phone is on AND connected remotely, then texts and emails work.
this is a carrier gimmick to force you to have 2 plans. because everything would work with just the watch. if you can brows the internet in standalone mode then emails should work aswell. if you can make and receive phone calls then texts should also work in stand alone mode as well. just an other proof on how greedy carriers are.
also never listen to what they say. 60% of the time they give you false information and miss guide clients.

Hey I'm using jio in india and I'm not able to make or receive calls, but receiving sms as well as internet service i don't know my watch does supports or not volte service from jio

but i mean if you only have a watch and think of using it standalone LTE, you cant do anything. you need a phone on the same provider to activate the line on the watch. plus if no phone, no texts and emails....
I don't believe that to be true with this plan. With their "Digits" plan, yes, but this one no. I have heard that you can get it activated in the store using the reps phone, then it works just fine. I will try to verify it this weekend and report back.

so lets say u reset your watch by mistake and the rep got fired or is on vacation, u have a brick on your wrist? ( not to mention ull get their calls and texts and emails)
of course u can probably still use bluetooth but ull never get that number/line reactivated. im pretty sure they made the watch and phone be an obligatory tether with the carrier if u want to use LTE. its evil.
No the watch just needs to get the TMo settings, then works independently. If you have a TMo phone you can do it yourself.

yeah of course if you have both services on your account. but was just putting out there if you just buy a galaxy watch LTE and want to use it stand alone, ure screwed.

The way it works is the watch has a sim card (Called a esim. They function the exact same as normal sim card except it's a chip instead of a card.) It provides the LTE functions of the phone. Next it gets a Paired Digits number so it links both the devices numbers together so when one rings, they both ring even though they have their own number.

Yes, that's for T-Mobile. My watch is on Sprint and paying $15 to receive only stand-alone texts is outrageous. They continue to say that the watch needs a software update that provides VoLTE, but nobody seems to know when that will, IF EVER, happen.
stand alone activation
can the standalone feature be activated by a non-samsung phone? I currently purchased the watch and is activated by the carrier aswell (vodafone numbersync) but the app is telling me that my phone is not compatible with the watch.

Here's the back story. Bought my phone from Egypt unlocked s20 plus. Recently moved to canada and trying to get samsung pay to work. Downloaded the app from google play canada but it says that device is not supported. Downloaded it from APK mirror but it just says it needs to update, even though this is the last version.
I was told that getting the BTU or DBT CSC might fix this, since they come preinstalled with samsung pay.
First of all, can I do this by just flashing the firmware (not changing CSC)? Or do I need to change the CSC using samkey? I don't mind flashing first, if that didn't work then using samkey. But would rather go with the route that people think will work straight away.
I'll write all my device's info that I think might be needed to make this as complete as possible. Then I'll put some questions that are confusing me.
So to start this, I bought my phone from Egypt and I'm currently in Canada. Since it's a dual sim model, I have a Canadian SIM as my primary and Egyptian as my secondary. Currently, I'm getting wifi calling but not VoLTE. Reading a bit on this, some people are saying that my network intentionally locked people out of this option if they didn't buy the phone from them. One thing I'd like to point out is typing "*#243203855#" in the dialer does nothing. Maybe it's because it's not supported? Or the fact that I have dual IMEI?
Questions:
1. Is there benefit of using DBT over BTU?
2. With my bootloader being BIT 4 (I think?), can I use samkey? When I checked it, it said that they only support BIT 1 and 2 on their website. I could be wrong.
3. Is it safe to purchase samkey credits off ebay?
4. Is samkey itself safe? It showed up as a trojen when I installed it. Could be a false positive? Downloaded from the official site btw.
5. Is flashing BTU enough for this to work or do I need to change the CSC?
6. Can I revert any changes that I've done to restore the device in its original state? If I change the CSC, can I revert it back to EGY?
7. Will I get normal OTA updates while I'm here in canada? This applies to both flashing and/or changing my CSC?
8. I would love to keep wifi calling, call HD, and hopefully get VoLTE (but I understand that this might work). And obviously the main reason for this whole thing is getting Samsung Pay to work.
Sorry if these questions might be obvious, I'm really trying to understand this so I don't ruin anything and don't regret anything.
If someone is willing to help me further, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am unsure about majority of the things you have question about, but one thing i know for sure - samsung pay on my s20+ was rarely working making me look stupid at the shops - since i switched to google pay all issues are gone and payment is going through everywhere

The one thing that I care about with samsung pay is the magnetic card replication. I forgot what it was called MTP, or something? This is something that doesn't work with google pay.

The MST function was disabled in 2019 for all the smartphones sold within the EU (at least) due to a new regulation regarding MST technology.
I don't know if it's working elsewhere.
Still, for me SPAY has been working flawlessly for over an year or two, never had any problem, with or without MST

Oh? This might actually be useless than. So this is a hardware change or a software one? Since mine was bought from Egypt. I plan to flash the UK software on there. I'm not sure if it'll have it or not in this case. I guess without MST, what's the point of using samsung pay over google pay?

Question Google Pixel Watch LTE Functions and Mint Mobile

Will the Google Pixel Watch LTE Functions work with a Mint Mobile account? Can you leave the phone at home and still use the LTE functions away from the phone?
As far as I understand, you'll need an eSIM to use LTE/4G on the watch. You need to check with your carrier if they can provide one for you.

I assume the lack of support has to do with whatever is running in the background that allows the watch to use the same number as the phone. What if the phone wasn't part of it? Activate the watch on a plan, give it its own number. The watch wouldn't be a companion device. These watches are just phones shrunk down and can work on their own. I found a Galaxy Watch4 on Swappa with the IMEI number posted. I entered it into Mint's checker and it came back as a compatible device. What if the sim from a phone were install into a watch that uses a physical sim?
