Im still in the process of choosing between the dash and the curve 8320 for tmobile...and so far im leaning more towards the dash but i see so many complaints about how windows mobile crashes like 5 times a day and its so slow that its worth getting another phone over
so ive decided to take a poll from the users to help me decide
Also ive seen lots of previous owners of the dash complaining about how the Screen broke VERY easily...are they just haters or is this true...? and how much do spare screens cost?
My opinion:
My Windows never crash - NEVER. I make everyting to crash it - Install unofficial ROMS every week, install many many programs, games, etc, edit registry to find what key for what is, end so on .
Good display
Good Radio
Good Wi-Fi
When you hit the phone to wall or to floor its normal to crash .
First problem is the battery - 2 days battery life with normal usage of wi-fi(20-30 min per day), gaming (15-20 min per day) and talking (20-30 min per day). If you use wi-fi more often, the battery will be uncharged very soon.
My phone is new but some guys here tells that the battery life become dramaticaly short after 8-9 mounths of usage - something like 6-7hours. But when this happen you just buy another battery fo 15 bugs - end of story.
Second problem is audio jack. If you don't have headset for mini USB jack, you must buy adapter for 3.5mm audio jack - someting like 10-15 bugs
Mine never "crashed" either.
The only thing that happened to me was installing some software locked it up and I had to hard reset.
If you like to tinker, and are a geek, and like lots of software, get the Dash.
If you are a pencil pusher, get the Curve.
Whatever you do, DON'T get the Shadow. You have never seen bad battery life
until you get that phone.
I have heard people talk bad about the dash. I have had my dash for about a year and a half. I just replaced the battery because it had gotten to the point where it was useless, but after reading more about battery life of the battery this was as expected. I got a desk charger for 12 and a second battery and now I have two batteries for use and I can do pretty much anything I want. As far as crashing my dash has only had to be hard reset once for a real problem and other than that it was by choice. The one time it was hard reset it was my fault as well. It hung in a reboot loop after installing some flaky software. If you want a phone that just works get the dash and get an extra battery.

i had the curve 8320 and honestly its a smooth running os but it is soooo boring plus sude for the curve it is way lighter han dash but dash is so customizable any winmo phone nut my preference is dash have had mine for ove a year and a half and loving it
Mine used to lock up once in a while when I was on WM5, but it's never crashed (other than some battery related shutdowns before I replaced it) since I upgraded to WM6 and then WM6.1. With 6.1 I haven't had to reboot it once yet.

Try puting your battery in the freezer..... of course it wouldn't do you any good in there now would it?
Battery info
This is by far the best article on battery life I have found...that doesn't make it great just a good article:
http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
As far as Batteries how much:
http://www.cellphoneshop.net
I got two batteries and a desk charger sent to me by fed ex in 24 hours or so for 43 dollars. Desk Charger was 6 dollars shipping was the big item at 17.00, but I didn't have to use fed ex. The two batteries are 12.99. I did this last week and the stuff was sent to me via fed ex. I placed the order it shipped first thing the next morning and i had it about mid day on the third day. It came from Hong Kong.

New here and new to Android. I'll try to make this as brief as possible:
Two weeks ago I purchased a used "refurbished" Galaxy Tab S 8.4 with Lollipop installed. I very much wanted to try to make the slow but gradual switch from iOS and thought this would be a good place to start.
Battery life is horrendous compared to iPad. Here is the issue broken down:
Powered on. Battery drains at the rate of 1 percent an hour in standby.
Powered OFF. Battery drains at the rate of 1 percent an hour.
Powered on and using for web, video, etc (no games). Battery drains at the rate of ~10 percent every 15 minutes or so.
What I've done:
Wifi OFF except when in use
Location services OFF
Sync OFF
Bluetooth OFF
Screen at just below 50 percent
Wakelock detector finds some activity (mostly Android battery "WLAN" monitor stuff)
Did full restore
Most importantly: I REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A BRAND NEW ONE and am seeing nearly identical drains as I did with the stock battery that was two years old
I have scoured the internet, rooted the device to try to kill any rogue activity, and "reseated" the battery connector 3 times.
Can anyone tell me WHY this battery is losing one percent an hour while completely powered off?
One clue is that, with everything turned off (listed above) the battery drain is nearly identical when off as it is when it is "sleeping" which would indicate...well, something.
I'm frustrated that I have been focused on fixing this issue rather than enjoying my "new" Tab S.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EDIT: I have read through other batter drain threads here and, although others share similar problems, don't have an answer. Maybe there is no answer?
I had a similar battery drain (when the device was off) 1.5 years ago with my couple of months old tablet. Had to take it to warranty repair twice, on the second attempt they changed the battery connector and the power circuit (if I remember correctly), and that was enough to fix the problem.
If the tablet drains the battery while completely off, it's clearly a hardware issue.
I'm thinking hardware has to be the culprit too, at this point. Very frustrating as this is a used tablet and out of warranty. I have done everything possible to try and get decent battery life out of this thing to no avail. I'm loving android but have a bad taste in my mouth as to their hardware. Should I keep or just get a couple hundred bucks on ebay? I'd be thrilled with this if the battery life came anywhere near the iPad mini.
The 8.4" is known for having a problem with the battery connector (maybe flexing of the case makes it loosen), some people have soldered the battery wires directly to the motherboard and say it fixed the problem, Samsung knows there is a problem with the battery connector according to some service centers, one service center actually fitted a more heavy duty connector to fix one problem according to what i read.
John.
I would contact the seller and try to return it and then get one from a different seller.
~ Assuming you didn't buy from some random ebay seller who has fake rating >.<
Hi,
I've been using this Tab S since July 2014 and been very pleased of it.
I only use it every night for Web browsing or watching movies.
Not any games or any social network or anything draining the battery.
Average autonomy was around 7 to 8 hours.
9 months ago it has started to drain a little bit more and especially when off (totaly off, not in sleep mode)
Before that event I was turning it off at night and 24 hours later the battery level was exactly the same. (zero percent of drift)
Then it started to suck a little bit every day: 1%, 2%, 3% each 24 hours when completly OFF.
First thing I've done was to make a wipe cache/data and restore to factory settings from recovery mode.
It didn't help.
Then Samsung released Lolipop Upgrade so I did it.
It didn't help any more.
So I ordered a new battery to an official dealer and replaced it.
You know the answer.... didn't help.
Then Marshmallow has come and I did it.
.... idem.
So as electronics and automation technician I am, I decided myself to do some measurements.
I opened the Tab S and checked battery voltage when off every hour with a high accuracy Fluke D.M.M.
And I found that it was loosing ~34mV every 24 hours, which makes the 3% loss.
(Boring calculations just for knownledge : LiPo Vmax 4350mV - LiPoVmin 3200mV = 1150mV corresponding to 100% capacity.)
First thing I did after that was to make the same check but with battery disconnected to the Tab S.
And you know what? not even a mV drained in 24 hours when not connected to Tab S PC Board!
Then I measured the resistance between + and - socket on the PC board : value between 800KOhms and 1,2MOhms.
Same values when I crossed the wires.
Theses values are too low, I should have found many many MOhms.
I've also checked the battery connector that some other guys said it was loosy or bad soldered: that's not the case but I've soldered it.
same problem.
MY CONCLUSION: it's a hardware problem.
Maybe it's a drifting component, probably a capacitor which as lost insulation, or a defective diode.
Unfortunately I don't have the diagrams of this Tab S and can't diagnose it.
Is there on XDA any guy from Samsung Tech Support who can help me?
No answer?
Anybody has Galaxy Tab S 8.4 diagrams?

i had the same issue Android – Marshmallow Android – Lollipop etc battery life sucks on the upgrades.. The battery would not last more than 3/4 hours, it was a pure joke. Best thing is to downgrade to KitKat XXU1ANF8 since my downgrade battery easily last a few days of heavy use.

Here try this link for service manual
Now that the 10 has been out for almost 1.5 years, I know some of us have been using the phone since it first came out. With battery degradation in mind, I expect most of us have lost approximately 20% of our battery capacity.
Has anyone here successfully replaced their battery, and if so, have you noticed an actual increase in battery life?
I am curious if anyone has done this as well. My battery has degraded to the point where I can only manage 2 1/2 hours of SoT on latest LeeDroid. I am trying to hold on to the 10 till the Pixel 2 comes out, so if anyone had a battery replacement can chime in here and help us.
You serious? Take a look at what you would be getting into ......

Here is something my friend Aurelius posted you could try. I do this on my 10 every 5 to 6 months. My battery is in good shape and should easily last another year.

I really enjoy taking apart electronics and fixing them; so spending 1-2 hours taking apart the HTC 10 would not bother me at all
Because of the current state of my battery life, I occasionally have it discharged down to 0% battery just because it cannot do more than 2.5 Hrs SOT. It used to do about 3.5 and sometimes 4 by the end of the day. Would you say this recalibration technique has significantly helped your battery/SOT?

I am with you mate, I also average about 2.5 SOT at the end of day. I remember getting 3.5Hrs. I used to finish my day with about 30-40% battery life on an average day; Now I finish somewhere closer to 10-15%.
Same for me.
Don't know if Battery is dying or music apps are the pain.
Anyway I am interested in reports about replacing the battery by users here.
Some YouTube guys made it, but it looks a little bit complicated but not impossible.
Also I have a few questions about the replacement parts used.
I read many times, you should get a new display for replacing the battery, just in case.
But I would like not to do that until I really need it.
But...
After opening the phone, is the glue for fixing the display etc damaged? How can I close my phone properly again?
New display are coming with new glue for fixing it, but if I don't need a new one, I would prefer not tu use the new glue, no matter if I really purchased a new Display.
Hoping someone can give a little comment about replacing battery... Don't need to be a how to, but a commentary.
It's the battery.
Replaced it after 15 months of solid use. Don't know why. One reason (or so I've read) is because I so often kept it plugged it/charging while using it, but never letting it discharge entirely. But who knows?
so this is a late post of a dead spin off of a phone.
it was always rumored that last updates of a samsung phone were designed to kill the battery.
I'm wondering, I have a soildly refurbished phone, it was running Marshmellow for a bit and seemed to drain. I flashed G891AUCS6CSI2_8.0 which is like the second last update. it RUNS smooth, it actually runs quite well, phone works and everything.
but the battery life is trash.
I might get 2 hours SOT. and it lasts like 5 hours overall... REALLY bad.
pretty unacceptable for a referbished phone even. Accubattery tells me that I only have around 62% of battery capacity. I don't know how accurate this is... but holy this battery is so bad.
thats such a shame for such a legendary battery runtime when it came out.
is it my battery? or is it this god damn firmware?
Something is odd with your motherboard, probably the power integrated circuit. I had S7 for a long time, when I first got it, it used to last all day with around 6+ Hrs SOT on LTE.
It worsened till only around ±4 Hrs SOT in a time period of ~8 Hrs.
I don't think it's firmware. Never felt battery drain after update before. You'll only lose money fixing the phone.
You can get A20 for maybe 100$.
mobo!? why the mobo? wouldn't it be the battery?

It's non-removable, and it's very rare for Samsung phones to have this low-life battery. Galaxy S6 was an exception. Galaxy S7 is not.
But you're free to replace the battery. Here, we recommend the best option, considering the pocket.
I know it takes firmwares to settle on a battery when first flashed... I'm starting to get up to 65%...still really bad for a 4000mah s7 active referb phone...
damnit... I'll likely send it back, I want to know more about this power integrated circuit being a calpurit of failing S7s
Just got a Ebay S7 Active on the latest update
G891AUCS6CSI2and it's a absolute dog lag city worse than my Galaxy On5. The smashed Galaxy A10 I have on 9.0 is super fast compared to this about 10x speed loading apps and even the keyboard lags on the S7. Is there a way to downgrade from 8.slow to 6.0 or 7.0?

Before I get rid of my S7, it had like 67% battery performance (said by Kernel manager), it used to last for like ~4Hrs SoT, I'd move at 8 A.M. and return back at sunset.
Something is wrong with your 4K mAh phone, compared to the regular 3K mAh variant, that's a very huge gap to be "just software".

The bootloaders are locked so I highly doubt its possible...I ran Oreo on my older s7 active on.BRE7 firmware and while the active button to take a camera shot was busted everything else worked just fine on it. I got decent battery life (not perfect but better then this) and maps ran much faster.
Man...its time to.accept that the s7 active is just dead. Being locked AT&T really held it back and removing.the screen from the front to replace the battery? **** that, people complain about servicing batteries today but at least it's still doable unlike this phone..
They even fixed this for the s8 active

Return if you can otherwise replace the battery.
Not a big deal unless you screw around until the battery fails which can destroy the phone.
A Li's service lifespan is when it reaches 80% of its original capacity. Degraded Li's are more likely to fail.
Any swelling is a failure.
Hi,
I am quite aware that S22 has the new chipset and a beast, but my only worry is battery.
S21 has 4000mAh and S22 has 3700 mAh. Confused as to which serves the best when it comes to usage. Did search a lot for drain test between these two and never found one.
Any suggestions please.
Cheers and Regards

I've not been into Samsung for years, as I don't like their software and often find their hardware substandard for the price. MIUI/Xiaomi offers a choice between modern status bar/notifications, modern app recents and improves upon stock Android without bloating it up.
Three hottest phones right now
Xiaomi Poco F3
Realme GT Neo 3
Xiaomi Redmi K50/K50 Pro (2k display)
I'm usually a snapdragon fan, but this snapdragon gen 1 has overheating and high power consumption issues.
had s21 and it had better battery life
I've got the 8 Gen 1 S22 and it's sufficient to say it's a terrible phone. It overheats, it gets stuttery most of the time probably because it's getting throttled, and the battery is bad. From 100 to 50% it's bad and from 50% and below it's terrible because it drains faster. And it's even worse when the phone runs hot, which is pretty much gonna be the norm in a hot summer environment. Then there's the last 5% which is non-existent because it's basically like a countdown in seconds from 5 to 0%. In other words, if your phone hit 5% it's gonna turn off in a matter of seconds if you don't plug it in ASAP.
So the math is kind of like this and note that I'm gonna talk about a period of 24h of use, both active and idle:
- you've got a battery of 3590mAh, the real capacity. I'm gonna cut that 5% right now because that simply doesn't exist. That means 180mA, which leaves you with just 3410mAh.
- 25-30% is the idle drain, and it's gonna stay in this range no matter what you're gonna try to do. Believe me, I tried EVRYTHING, even turning off cores and so on. The damn thing finds a way to drain battery with the screen off somehow.
- you're now left with only 65% of actually battery for SOT. That translates into ~2216mAh. That is all you have from a full charge.
- now the active drain is gonna be ~20%/h no matter what any battery monitor app tells you. That is 682mA/h.
*** This is all with normal use, which includes more than just watching videos, scenario in which the lack of touch events + the screen on will count towards that SOT recording and of course that's gonna increase the SOT. But that's kind of like fake SOT. When you start swiping up and down within apps, switching between them, browsing the web, which all means that you're getting the CPU to go from a range of frequencies, is when the actual real usage happens, so that's the true SOT of a phone.***
So, to get back to the math part, you're gonna get 3h15m. You're gonna watch some videos, I don't doubt that and that's gonna reduce that 20%/h to something lower, as long as there are no touch events. That's gonna get you over 3h30m. If you're watching a lot of YouTube and such, you can hit 4h SOT. But the average SOT for this phone is 3.5h.
That is terrible battery life for a phone in 2022. Samsung's node for the 8 Gen 1 was a complete fail and that is why Qualcomm went back to TSMC for the 8 Gen 1 Plus, and the efficiency gains for just a refresh of the same CPU, are insane. We're talking about 30% more efficiency. Insane! The 8 Gen 1 is pathetic and it's rarely gonna run the way it was meant to because it can't due to the heat it constantly produces. Paired with the small S22, there's not enough phone to dissipate that heat more efficiently, and therefore you're left with a choked out "beast". I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure that if I choke out The Rock and make him run with me on his back, he's not gonna perform very well, no matter how buff he is.
The bigger brother though, the S22+ is not gonna have the same issues. There's more material to dissipate the heat more efficiently and there's also a considerably larger battery inside. Not a lot bigger but big enough. You've got the same screen so the power consumption is gonna be different. Now all those percentages I mentioned above are gonna be based on the bigger battery. The idle drain is gonna stay the same but instead of 30%, that value would be ~24%. If that 5% issue is the same, you're left with ~3100mAh for SOT. The active drain would then be 16%/h. If my math is correct, with some room for error, you'd be able to get 4h40m with the same usage I initially mentioned for the smaller phone. With those reduced touch event during the videos, you'd be able to get over 5h out of it on a 24h charge. And if that 5% issue is not present, you've got ~200 more mA which would give roughly 20 more minutes over 5h, for SOT. Not that bad.
That's why I regret getting the small phone. Not as much as getting rid of the 13Pro I used before it, which offered me the best battery life I've ever had in a phone, but I still regret it.
In conclusion, you either go big in the Android world, or suffer. Or you can get the S21 and have better battery life than the S22. Your choice.

Don't be fooled by any claims. The battery is simply too small to have noticeable gains. One moment you think it's doing great and suddenly the table turns. For instance you'd think 2h50m SOT at the 50% mark is great and you'll get at least another 2.5h out of it considering how much battery you still have, but then later that day you see that you just hit 3.5h SOT and the battery is now at 15%. So the stats are very tweaked to mislead you and not show the real SOT. It's kind of what Apple does with the percentage that's over 90% where the battery drops very slowly but then it starts to get faster.
With Power Saver mode at all times, Google's services freak out a lot more frequent because they can't send and receive data at any time without interruptions. That results in even higher idle drain. You virtually gain no additional battery life, or something small that you can barely call gains.
So you gotta use the phone as is, without any interventions this way allowing it to perform anything it needs to do in the background. After getting mine to stock, I've been getting that 3.5, 4h SOT which is pretty consistent right now. I don't look at the drain or how much per hour gets wasted, etc. I just use it as a regular folk who doesn't know about these more in depth stats. This way I only got used to charging it a certain way and not caring about the rest. If by any chance I notice a higher drain than usual, again, I don't investigate because I know it'll only get me depressed or something. I just reboot the phone and thing settle for a while.
It's the best way to use this terrible phone. You were very inspired when you decided to return it. Literally ANYTHING on the market is better than this thing.

This is how it goes. Small Android devices will NEVER give you great battery life, and I'm talking about the likes of S22 and such in terms of size and also with the title of flagship device. You just can't have both. I learn it the hard way, which is wasting money on devices for the past 3 years to reach this conclusion.
So if you want a powerful Android device with more than good battery life, you gotta go big. No way around it. If someone claims that they're getting great SOT on their small Android phone, that's because they're very light users, mostly watching videos. That means no touch events and that translates into very few frequency rampups and that in its turn means lower CPU usage that gives you longer SOT, but that's not representative of the regular usage which involves a lot more than that.
Only Apple offers great battery life in a smaller form factor and that's mainly because it's a hell of a lot easier job to optimize the software for a handful of devices which have the most important pieces of hardware inside built inhouse. It's just the absolute best situation for them.
However, going for the smallest phone would be a mistake. You'd get decent battery life for that size but it's still bad. The regular 13 is the best choice if you still want a small phone. I'd personally get the 13 Pro which has even better battery life than the regular variant plus the 120Hz screen. And let me tell you, the level of smoothness you get from 120Hz iOS is on a whole another level than on 120Hz Android. iOS has a lot less frequent frame drops, and by that I mean they're almost non existent. On Android, framedrops are everywhere and anywhere, no matter how "buttery smooth" people claim it is. It's not. The frame dips, the so called stutters, are noticeable and they occur most of the time no matter the app, when you scroll up and down. It's always been there.
But yeah, get an iPhone and you'll see what I'm talking about. After selling my 13 Pro to go back on Android because I got bored of iOS, I regretted it when I saw the battery life on my S22, not to mention overheating and overall poor performance because of that.
Something else to consider is how much better iPhones hold their value compared to Android phones. I can get a brand new S22 for $570 from the trading market in my country. I paid $1040 for my current crap of a phone. It's nearly half the price now. At the same time, I can buy a brand new 13 Pro from the same place for $1025, the cheapest one. I paid $1250 for mine when I got it last year in October. That's just $225 value lost in 8 months. The S22's price dropped to nearly half in just 3 months. It's just insane.
So get a 13 or 13 Pro, or if you can wait a little longer, get a 14. I'm getting the 14 Pro Max, without thinking twice. It's a brick but I don't want to have to worry about battery life ever again, to force close apps and services and constantly check on the background activity so I can try to save some juice.
My POV though. Android has always been letting me down
My galaxy s8 used to last two full days when i got it new. Nowadays, it last me a full day with regular use, keep in mind that i put a new battery in it and did not update to the latest firmware. It has only two year of update and it killed the battery by one day.
Those updates age the phone, doesn't matter which OS it is ( android or ios). I am going to do a trial on the 13 mini, and if that doesn't work i am going to go for the iphone 14 pro ( not the max). the pro models will ditch the notch as well. It would be one hell of an upgrade from my s8.
Not sure, why you didn't return your galaxy s22 during the trial period?

When I ordered this thing, I also put in the cart a white Samsung bumper case too. When I received the package, I unboxed the phone and the case, put the phone in it then booted up the device. It was a pretty tight fit. After 4 days I decided that nope, I'm not keeping this pathetic thing. So I already had a few tabs open with some guys selling their Pixel 5 phones. I just needed to choose one.
So I take out the S22 out of the case and surprise! Micro scratches all around the frame from when I inserted the phone in the case. Because the damn case is made of a hard material and the plastic inside wasn't completely smooth at the edge, all the tiny imperfections left a mark on the supposedly military grade aluminium the frame is made of, when I inserted it in it. Marketing at its finest. I then emailed the store I ordered the phone from and they asked the department in charge how it would go from there if I returned the phone in that condition. They tagged it as "non-returnable" because it's not in the same condition and cannot be sold as new anymore. OR they could deduce a tax that consists of replacing the frame with a new original one. That also includes the display and the whole restoration of the device would mean -400 euros from the initial price. Just from those micro scratches around the frame.
So that's why I'm now stuck with this thing. I even took it out of the case, removed the screen protector and I'm using it naked. It's all scuffed and scratched from just using it like that, without dropping it or anything. The durability of this thing is absolutely pathetic, a complete joke.

Absolute tragedy! Sounds like your just stuck with this phone for sometime or your other choice is to sell for a loss in the used market.
On a side note, I ordered a case and screen protector online for the galaxy s22. It arrived a month after i returned the phone. I lost about $15 on it. I was too cheap to order it from samsung directly.
The regular iphone 13 looks like the phone to get for me, I guess i will wait for iphone 14 to launch and buy the iphone 13 on a discount.

Good idea. The regular 14 I believe the rumours say will look identical to the 13 too.

Hi,
I am quite aware that S22 has the new chipset and a beast, but my only worry is battery.
S21 has 4000mAh and S22 has 3700 mAh. Confused as to which serves the best when it comes to usage. Did search a lot for drain test between these two and never found one.
Any suggestions please.
Cheers and Regards

I don't think the the battery will be that much of an issue for S22 because the phone itself is more efficient then the S21. So technically you should get more out of the smaller battery.
S20 or S20 Ultra will be a better option then S22.
I bought the S22 only because my old phone died and the S22 was on sale and in stock.
Other wise I would have bought the S20.
The S22 series are new with a lot more great specs so you can get any S22 series model!
