Does anyone still use this phone? - Sony Xperia M5

Hello everyone -
I am looking into buying this phone mostly just for fun, and to make some custom roms as it seems like a dead community here.
Just wondering how many people actually use this phone and if it would be worth it - there are no promises it's just an idea at this stage.

I do!
I wished for any rom to flash other than the stock one i have :/

[Q] DSLR controller on VH1?

Has anyone tried DSLR controller on Verizon HTC one? I was reading through the compatible devices and the website says HTC one is supported only with a custom ROM. It would be of great help to hear from folks who are using NOS or other custom/rooted ROMs.
Just now placed an order (at monoprice) for an OTG adaptor and have to wait for at least a week to get it delivered.
Thanks in advance.
So far its a big no, I have tried many things. I am 99% sure we need custom kernels, which we can't make until we get source.

Bummer. Thanks for your feedback and testing it. Hope things get better with 4.3 release. (and praying for compatible source code available). This phone is phenomenal in terms of looks and hardware. And you and other guys are doing excellent job in exploiting its true potential and removing unnecessary restrictions. So thanks to you guys, from users like me who are able to benefit from your efforts.

CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, or any other ROMs?

Would Cyanogen Mod be interested in developing for this phone now that we have unlocked bootloader? Given the choice, I'd love Paranoid Android, but I went hold my breath.
CM is already in development . https://github.com/CM-zenfone2
BrokenROM https://github.com/BrokenROM/device_asus_moorefield
Seems that are only for ZE551ML I hope that will be compatible with ZE550ML
If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Yay! I really hope Paranoid Android follows suit. I LOVE Pa's Halo feature.
custom roms will help this phone.zenny 2 has one of the worst stock firmware optimization ever and seems like asus cant fix the problems.
Be patient guys, I just sent a couple developers phones this week.

Good to see Asus is showing commitment to this phone. Also great to see you guys are embracing the aftermarket ROM community. More vendors need to be supportive like this.
We love the enthusiast community - you guys are the ones that like to tinker and have contributed to our growth over the years when we were just a motherboard vendor. I bet many of you still have fond memories of building PCs with our components before tinkering with phones .

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!
We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

Just got one single request... Open an official outlet or distributer in Pakistan... I am buying your items off international vendors without warranties... Would love to see if I can get some support locally...

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done
Good thing to see Asus sharing to make custom ROMs efficient.
Already on Harfainx's ROM, can't wait to see things going even further.

Unfortunately in only responsible for North America and have no say for any other regions.

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.
I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all

Now that factory images are out, what is the next step in development?

As the title suggests, what is the next steps? Will we be getting custom ROMs soon? Or are developers not interested in Razer phone? I haven't heard anything in regards to development, and I am curious what to expect, if any.
Honestly have no idea. I find the stock romantic to be pretty good though. Just waiting for oreo to come out.
Ah well I just rooted with Magisk. I miss resurrection remix, what with all the customization.

Honestly, wait for Oreo. We seem to have everything for Project Treble, and Razer still says Oreo in Q1 2018. At that point custom roms become much easier
Yeah I'm waiting on oreo personally.. My guess is with its release coming shortly, developers would be waiting as well lol
The only thing I'm surprised not to see is a tweaked stock rom removing alot of the games and adding basic features like pre rooted, center clock, **** like that
Flashing twrp seems to be a bit tricky and I don't want to go back to stock once a new update comes out. So I'm waiting for Oreo which hopefully will make things easier.
Trying to learn how to do it myself. This device hasn't received much support so far, just seems like it was to little to late from razer for the big devs.

The first step I think is to compile the kernel from source and start porting features. I managed to compile it but I lost wifi and the flashlight for now

Will there be any custom roms development for this phone??

Does anyone know if there are any custom roms being developed for this phone?. It's odd to see such a power house not be developing into something greater, it will be a shame to sell due to lack of development. P. S respect to all developers over the years for the great roms I have had the pleasure of using onany handsets
Doesn't seem like there will be, if there is audio may be a problem. Came from the Axon7 and the audio was trouble for the devs.

Question Recommendations for Kernels and or custom Roms.

Hey guys,
I've been unable to root my previous Huawei phone which I've had for 3,5 years.
It seems like a lot has changed and I'm slowly getting back into things.
What are your experiences with different Kernels and custom Roms on this device?
(If it matters) I have an EU model and use it mainly for reading and watching videos.
Thanks in advance.

Both the Omega and Blu Spark kernels are promising, they give some nice features and performance increases over stock.
There's not a ton of activity going on in the custom ROM development department but I think that will change over time. There certainly ARE some ROM's being developed but I tried the LineageOS ROM a few weeks ago and though there weren't any major issues, the performance wasn't quite where I needed it to be to consider it as a daily driver for MY needs.
Are you familiar with unlocking the bootloader/SIM unlocking on this device? What about using an MSM tool to unbrick/restore your device in the case of a bad flash? If you're unfamiliar with any of these topics I would do some research and learn the ins and outs (Especially the MSM tool) before you go diving into flashing things onto your phone!
Have a great day
try and see how it works, everyone has different preferences.

Anyways! If you have any further questions or need guidance, feel free to PM me or post again here.
Trying to get the thread back on track -- I've been using Omega kernel and have had great results with it. Improved battery w/o any performance issues. Haven't tried any ROMs yet as there are issues with some of them and TWRP isn't 100% working, but if you don't have a problem wiping your device and losing your data/settings after giving them a go, I'd do what the first reply suggested and simply try them out for size.

I second this. I've been using Omega since the first or second release and it's fantastic. Definitely a difference in battery life, and the device runs cooler than stock even when gaming or watching videos on high brightness.
I tried BluSpark briefly a few weeks ago. Seems promising, but Omega seems to be a better fit for me. I also tried ButterLimits mod, but I'm still not quite sure what it's doing exactly and I didn't notice a difference, so I didn't stick with it. Haven't tried any custom ROMs yet.
Dear all,
I woke up to this interesting thread and saw that everyone had so much passions on discussion...
BUT, please keep it civil to each other. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
I have removed some off topic posts from here. Hope we could continue having some positive feedback here.
Thanks.
