Proper way to install twrp and magisk - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I would like to install twrp and install magisk to the stock rom, I would like to keep secure folder. Would the process below work? Or is there a better way? Would anyone reccomend a custom rom.
Power off phone. Download mode. Odin
Flash with twrp-3.2.3-0-starlte.img.tar
Reboot into twrp, wipe- format, install no-verity-opt-encrypt-samsung-1.0.zip
Install magisk
Reboot

Dude once your phone is rooted you will longer have secure folder cause your device status in settings will be modified cause the flash counter was triggered

Root without unlocking/wipe?

Is there some way to get root without unlocking the bootloader/wiping?
AFAIK root requires a custom recovery, to flash a custom recovery requires unlocked bootloader, so simple answer is no.

Damn, read a bit about what a bootloader is, its role is described in its name. Those fears are pointless.

Not necessary, coming from other devices. I am no noob, I know what BL is, but some manufacturers tie certain features to locked BL. Sony for example cripples camera when you unlock.

oneplus works same whether the bootlader is locked or unlocked. the only downside is as soon as you lock or unlock your bootloader your phone is wiped completely.

Otas dont work with twrp, oneplus releases a singed ota update on their forums usually within a week or two after the official ota. These singned updates can be flashed via twrp.
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs
The only downside to unlocking the BL on the OP3 is that you get a warning message (http://i.imgur.com/88NcI2K.jpg) when booting the phone. Lots of people hate it, i like it personally. It makes pressing button combos to get into fastboot/recovery obsolete.

And unfortunately flashing seems to be the only way.

You won't be able to apply it while rooted. The upgrade will fail.
You can disable the app Motorola Updates with Titanium Backup to stop the annoying update screen all the time.

You are in doo doo land if you are rooted, use twrp and never backed up your virgin ROM.
There is a post, not long ago, in the Nougat Update thread showing all the fundamental steps.

Here's the firmware

I would say you're safe to flash a us firmware but only flash the 10 sparsechunks, recovery , boot img and OEM IMG if you flash and modem file or any other file you'll end up losing your IMEI.
But you're always taking a chance.

Bad idea. Next update might fail from left over stuff from root or a mod...then you are done.

The solution (I think) would be to wipe data and flash the entire stock image for your phone, then re-lock the bootloader. This will make sure that any folders/files pertaining to being rooted are gone and shouldn't cause any problems when it comes to validating your OS. Just make sure you properly unrooted SU by using their uninstaller/unroot tool before wiping and reflashing.

Out of curiosity, why do you even wish to lock the bootloader? Especially with the numerous horror stories of users unable to resurrect a bootlooping device (rather simple to fix if unlocked) because their bootloader is locked.
