After updating to android 9, my cellular connection is much worse than on oreo. I installed a modem from oreo, the result is not. What will be the ideas?
I think we just need to wait for next update, i too have weaker 4g signal on sim 2 slot

I am not very happy right now as I just got the Nov 1 build and now my phone has NO LTE connection indoors and my WiFi speed is cut back. I do not know what is going on but now I am really glad I have WiFi calling as T-Mobile LTE or any other signal for that matter is gone. .
I had a similar issue with my 5X on Sprint. Wifi and LTE speeds were 10% of what they were before the update. I wiped the system cache and everything went back to normal

Howdy all. I have been experiencing signal strength and drop issue since updating to Nougat. The phone will suddenly lose its LTE connection and stay on 3G until I restart. Areas where i previously had a good signal now show no signal at all. I remember there was an issue which cause modem problems in our devices after an update. I do have TWRP and Magisk root installed on my device. But it does pass safetynet check "if that matters).
So, my signal issues have gotten worse. I can still get LTE, but only at my house and its a weak signal. I have noticed the only LTE signal my 10 picks up is on Band 25. I wonder if the Sprint version is locked to a single band only?
The device seems to get stuck on 3G mode now. In an area with sparse LTE coverage, it will switch to 3G, but not connect to LTE again even if in range. Only a restart fixes that problem.
After updating my mom's 5x on sprint to 8.1 she no longer has lte. Phone is not rooted, she is in a native lte area, had lte immediate before pushing the update button. One strange thing is that prior to 8.1 but only after previous update, if she lost lte in a bad signal area the phone would not grab lte again until the phone was restarted. Prl and sprint provisioning were all up to date.
Any one else see this behavior?
I have not had a chance to backup, wipe and start over, nor will I for another 2 weeks. The only thing I could think of is hopefully a factory restore will help.

Did you try *#*#4636#*#* on the Call App ? With that you can go to "Phone information" then you can select the preferred Network type
Maybe LTE wasn't selected after the update ?
Yeah I tried that. It was set to auto, I changed it around a bit but no luck. Hopefully I will be able to reset it soon.
Same problem. No LTE after update to Oreo on Nexus 5X
I've been researching this problem through the internet and a lot of people have this problem and the only reason concrete solution is to get a new phone or replace the motherboard, which is the same price as a used Nexus 5X. Unfortunately, the 5X was a lottery where 1/2 of them had motherboard issues.and was stuck in a bootloop. I had one that Google or LG refused to replace since I live in Croatia.
So did you figure out a software solution? A better radio firmware perhaps?
My Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920I purchased December of 2015 can no longer make or receieve calls. My provider is TracFone via the Bring Your Own Phone program. I use their SIM card and it has worked all this time. Until recently the phones features have stopped working. I think they have been disabling the 3G in my area, as everyone is converting to 4G now.
Note 5 is supposed to support 4G but it's definitely been having issues. Text and internet still works. however texts are sometimes delayed on occasion, not always, usually it's fine. Data speed just now was tested at 10 mbps down, 3 mbps up. Signal bars are consistently low, regardless of physical location; inside, outside, other side of town, SIM status shows signal always between -108dBm and -118dBm. This is likely why I cannot make or receive calls, but the question is, why is this happening?
Like I said, I suspect they are shutting down 3G in this area, so the best theory I've been able to come up with is this: perhaps 4G has always sucked on this phone but I never noticed because it would fall back to the good 3G connection. Now that 3G is gone in this area, all I have to use is 4G which is a shoddy connection.
Further research has found in the early days of this phone there were numerous reports of weak/no signal. See these threads:
Fed Up With Terrible Reception
Hey all, I'm kind of venting here and at the same time hoping for some sort of direction because I'm absolutely fed up with my S6. I upgraded roughly a month and a half ago from an S4. My phone usage was below normal for the first week or two as I was busy with a variety of projects. As my...

No signal/network on my note 5

One theory was that the 4G antenna they used in the Note 5 / S6 was of poor design. Causing weak signal.
Things I have tried and did not work:
-Contacted TracFone. They confirmed the device is supported and provisioned correctly. They recommended a new SIM card.
-Replaced the SIM card with a brand new one
-Factory reset the device. It's running the stock Android 7.0 Nougat which was the last up to date version available.
-Tinkered with various service menus including *#2263# and *#0011#. Messing about with the LTE band settings didn't change the signal strength ever. Regardless of the LTE band, it stays in that -108 to -118 range, too weak for calling.
What can be done to fix this? Possible ideas:
-Internal antenna replacement, but this seems either expensive to have someone do, or extremely difficult to do oneself. Would it even make a difference? Has anyone tried this?
-Software. Could the issue have been introduced during one of the software updates? Planned obsolescence perhaps? Could we revert to an earlier firmware to potentially resolve this? has anyone tried this?
-Firmware. Could we upgrade the firmware to a later, unsupported version safely? Perhaps the issue was fixd in later Android versions but has not been adressed in older devices that are no longer updated.
I'm the kind of person who likes to use my things until they absolutely die. This Note 5 has been perfectly fine until recently. There is nothing wrong with it. It's still modern, fast, and has a great camera. I would HATE to have to replace a phone for such a stupid reason. Not only is money tight, but it's such a waste when this thing is still perfect apart from this weak 4G signal.
Has anyone else had this issue? Have you resolved it? Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Try a network reset.
Clear sim toolkit data.
Clear system cache.
The access point profile may need updating or maybe the sim?

Phone looses signal(mostly network) on different areas where there is signal. I read that this could be caused by updates, so I did a fresh install of latest A10 version (it did fix wifi problems), it got better, but still is not acceptable for daily use. Then I installed latest oreo rom, again it got a little bit better, but still not good enough. Afterwards I discovered that if signal has gotten weak setting preferred network type from 4G to 3G or vice versa gets connectivity back instantly. Also for some reason the sim slots are swapped in settings and slot 2 doesn't get signal at all(only saw this when I got oreo, can't say if this was present on A10).
Is this a software or a hardware problem? I got this phone in a pawnshop(had to get a cheap phone ASAP but couldn't afford a new one at the moment) a few days ago and if it has a hardware problem then I still have time to return it, otherwise I would like to fix it and keep it.
Seems like I have found a workaround, I installed latest POSP custom rom and set 4G/3G only in network settings, it still can loose network signal for a few seconds in a low signal area, but a few seconds isn't causing problems. Still have to do some testing but I'm inclined to think that this is a hardware failure, but if my workaround does the job I'm fine with it till I can afford to buy a new phone.
