Problem syncing contacts
I’m having a heck of a problem trying to get my new Galaxy Watch (46 mm/non-LTE) to properly sync my contacts. I first realized that I had a problem when I tried to use Bixby to place a call from the watch. Sometimes I woul get the message “contacts syncing” . Sometimes I would get the message that the contact was not found.
I tried resetting the watch and the Samsung Wear app but that didn’t work. I read that turning off Bluetooth and trying to sync over Wi-Fi helped. However, I cannot tell if that is really helping. Some contacts do work while others (most) do not.
It would help to understand from what source the watch gets the contacts. For example does the watch attempt to sync with my Samsung account? Does it attempt to sync with the contacts that reside in the phone memory?
On my phone, I have the contact app set up such that it only displays my Google contacts and I use my Google account as the storage location. I wonder whether that is the problem and if I should somehow either save everything to my Samsung account or save everything physically to the phone.
Naturally, Samsung customer support was worse than useless. The first person I spoke to had me do the hard reset and when that did not work told me to take the watch to a local Service Center. I tried speaking to another support representative today. This one insisted that the Watch would not dial contact numbers from Bixby because it was not LTE.
Any insights?
Hi! It may seem stupid, but give it a try if you haven't already.
In the Galaxy wearable app, go to the tab 'settings' and then 'Applications'. Scroll down till you find the contacts and then check in the settings from where the contacts are synced. The default should be from the phone, so try changing to your google account.
If you already did this, then I don't know for now.
I have purchased the Pro version but I'm still not able to place a phone call (the app says something like "I can't make calls yet", same as the non-paid version. Tried to uninstall and reinstall but it didn't work.
Galaxy Watch 3, Italian language.

Not sure how many of us here drive an Audi, but figured I'd give this forum a shot. I posted this question in the car forums, but apparently no one uses Android over there, let alone an Evo. I'm not quite sure if this is a phone specific problem or an Android problem.
So Audi's 3G Multimedia Interface (MMI), uses bluetooth to connect/sync my phone contacts from my phone and displays them on my car's Nav screen. From there I can select names, make calls, etc.
The problem is, I believe that the car is pulling "All Contacts" instead of just "My contacts" from Google. This makes it extremely cumbersome as I have an extra 100 contacts to sift through while I'm driving.
However, my phone itself is setup correctly, as I selected "Only contacts with phone numbers".
I realize Audi's management of phone sync may be different from other car makers, but it may also be the similar. Any ideas?
I'm not sure that there's anything you can do. Mine syncs the entire phonebook also (Audi A4). Sorry to break the bad news.
Yea, that's a bit disheartening. Thanks for the reply though, good to know. Who could we contact to try and get this changed? HTC? Google?

I am working on the same issue - temp solution - download just the contacts you want into a vcard format, then put them on an SD card and sync. It is much cleaner, but only allows 100 contacts. It worked better for me with addresses also for the nav.
I work for a competing automaker as a dealership technician. We run into this problem and many others with our wireless to vehicle integration system. The best workaround for your particular problem would be to swap your contact lists. Backup all of your contacts to Google. Then delete all of the contacts you don't want sent to the car. Then redownload your phone book to the car. Next, restore your contact list from Google. And finally, reupload only the contacts you want Google to store to the Google cloud.
I know its a lot of steps, but it should provide you with the solution you require. One other thing to keep in mind, if you have an automated phonebook download option in your vehicles interface, it should be deactivated. If it isn't, there's the distinct possibility that the next automatic update will pull all the contacts you just eliminated.
Same issue, using SD instead
I don't know if you found a solution. I am facing the exact same issue on Audi MMI with Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I have been searching up and down and found no clean solution. I am using the SD import workaround. I re-paired my phone and denied the phonebook access so MMI can't download from my phone.

I've got a 2012 S4 and just bought the Galaxy S4 (my first android phone, switched from iphone5) and i had the exact same problem. i spent the first two days of ownership of the GS4 googling my heart out trying to figure out WTF.
I have found a permanent solution that works for me but, may not work for you all. reason i say that is, if you rely on google or other accounts to manage your contacts, this will not work for you. the problem is gmail/google, by default any and all emails you send/receive are stored as "contacts" in google. regardless of what settings you have on your phone, when you sync your contacts with audi MMI, it pulls all contacts from both phone and google (possibly other email accounts you have syncing to your phone).
what i did was...
1) go into my google accounts (i have two) and went into the settings and told google that i would "manually add" contacts.
2) i then deleted all contacts from all my google accounts.
3) then i turned contact sync "on" on the phone and synced the phone with google.
4) turned contact sync back off.
the following is within the audi MMI... (the audi MMI does NOT store the contacts synced with your phone, it refreshes the contact list every time it connects to the phone, this is why you cannot access the list immediately after ignition is on).
1) unpaired the phone from MMI.
2) deleted all profiles within the NAME/DIRECTORY menu in MMI (if you get to a point where it asks you for your ID PIN (something along those lines), you will need to enter the last 7 digits of your VIN number.
3) i then repaired the phone, and when the prompt on the phone popped up asking for permission to access contacts, clicked yes and selected to not be prompted again.
after it redownloaded the directory from the phone, only contacts i add to the phone showed up.
WARNING, by deleting the profiles, you will also delete any manually added addresses/locations stored from the MMI as well, i personally can live with this.
Android BT Fix for Audi
Hey there...
New to this forum. Here is a fix for the Phonebook sync for Audi MMI / Android phones. It's an app called Bluetooth Phonebook from the Play store. Download it to your phone and voila...it works.
Hope this helps.

Quick question, do you gate The contact picture to show on The mmi with tour galaxy?
Okay, I've searched extensively both here and on Google, and my powers of finding stuff have failed me. I'm finding a lot of similar requests, but none of them are asking exactly what I need. So, if I have somehow missed this somewhere, I apologize, but after two days of trying various search terms, I'm giving up and just asking.
I just bought the S3, and so far, I seriously love it. I just have one question that I can't seem to fix. The "me" contact pulled in my Google+ profile information, but it didn't pull in my Facebook data (I have the app, and have it syncing, and it works for everyone else) but more importantly to me, it's not syncing with my Google Contact for myself. My name is exactly the same, and the contact file is even linked to the Google+ profile. I even tried going in and making the same email address the default in both listings, but nothing seems to make them merge. The "Join Contact" option doesn't show up at all for the "me" contact, and when I try to join from the google contact listing, it doesn't give me the "me" contact as an option. I don't know if it's something I'm no doing right in the Google+ vs Contacts sync, since they each have a different profile picture and I can't seem to fix that either, but I have no idea if that's the same problem as getting my local profile contact to sync with my google contact, since the local is pulling from the G+ account. Gah. It's by no means a del breaker, it just drives me a little crazy to have duplicate information anywhere, plus, now I have to remember to update my own contact information in two places if I want it to show up for both, which is mildly irritating. Anyone have any ideas?
At the moment, I'm running stock rom, not rooted. I'll get around to rooting eventually, but to be honest I'm waiting to see who gets a working JB rom first, Samsung or Cyanogenmod, since I've had problems getting official samsung updates rooted, even with the stock rom, on other devices in the past. That being said, if the solution to my problem is to root and run a utility, I'm not above doing that either.
the problem is linked to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726677. if you enter your own phone number it should work.

I don't think that's the same problem. My number in the "about device" setting is correct. The phone knows what the number is. This is purely a Samsung TouchWhiz contacts thing - they have a "Me" contact that is stored separately on the phone from your Google contacts. That contact does not sync with Google or any other service, and thus far, I have found no way to merge it with a sync'd contact, or tell it to use a specific contact as "me" rather than create the new listing. I did find that you could link the "me" contact with a Google+ profile, so that's what I finally ended up doing. I deleted myself out of contacts, put the information in my Google+ profile as private, and linked that to "me". I even talked to Samsung tech support about it, and was basically told it was working as intended.

Yeah, I never did find a solution. It still irritates me occasionally.
New Year, same Problem
Hi guys,
I know this thread is a little old but I am having this problem now using the Google phone app on Android L / unofficial CM12.
Anyone have a solution for either merging a contact to the "me-account" or just getting the system to recognize the number on my sim? (Settings / About phone / Status / My phone number -> Unknown)
Have a good one
Ok I was having the same issue with my galaxy s5. I fixed it by going into "connections" entering into my Samsung account and editing my profile to include my phone number. G+ now syncs with "my info" without issue
It's not happening and I am frustrated.
I just got this system installed two days ago. My Bluetooth connects and I can play music and answer or make calls, but my contacts and phone history will not sync over to the receiver.
I click yes on the dialog box when it asks to transfer the information, but it never transfers. I called Pioneer once but the rep was not much help. He suggested I delete the phone from the receiver and start over again. I did that. I called the installer and he suggested I do that as well as turn Bluetooth on and off. I did that.
I am going to go see the installer Monday if I can't get it figured out. It appears I am doing everything I should be doing but it seems the phone is blocking the transfer. I even tried selecting all my contacts and sharing them with Bluetooth and then the receiver but the send file fails.
Any suggestions as to what might be blocking this sync?
Hey I have the same deck as you and what you are trying to do is not possible for the time I spend with it and if you did manage to sync them what are the benefits? Look at your contact list when you leave your phone behind but can't do anything with said contacts because you don't have a phone? Doesn't make much sense right.
That dialog box that comes up when you first pair with the deck is asking you permission to access the phone contacts and not download/sync them.
When your phone is connected you can push the phone button and will let your scroll through your contact list and press the button again to call. Well that's all I remember what to do when I used the phone part of this deck, which is not a lot.
Hope this cleared some things up.
Also if I'm completely off base and you are having trouble with the contacts not displaying or showing when someone calls, then you got a bad unit.

Thank you Gilbert for the reply.
When I push any of the phone menu buttons, I don't get any information. It just says "transferring."
I decided to call Samsung yesterday and twice got on remote access, but both times I hit the wrong button on my stereo and the calls were lost. When I called the third time I started speaking with someone who was going to get me back to the remote access department and he asked me how many contacts I was trying to sync over. I told him about 1,800. He said, "Whoa, I can tell you from experience that generally car stereo receivers only sync up to 900 contacts."
So, I worked all night last night on my contacts. They were a mess and even if this doesn't work the guy did me a huge favor because I was able to shave my contact list down to 564 and unlinked them all from old Verizon backup assistant and Microsoft Exchange contacts. It was an ugly job that truly needed to be done.
Anyway, I have not tried to allow access yet. I am going to try in a little while and then I will report back in.
Well, it's been ugly, but things are working out .... weirdly!
After cleaning up my stock contact app, the contacts finally became visible but they are still being linked in with Microsoft Outlook contacts. I have tried every which way for them not to show up. I even deleted everyone of them from my computer and they are still showing up when I Bluetooth the stereo.
Well at least you got it working for you and seemed like you overwhelmed the unit with all those contacts.
But I find that strange that you can't get those contacts from showing up. So you deleted those outlook contacts from your computer but did you on the phone? Also have you disabled contact sync of the outlook account in the settings?
Also you could try to unpair your phone and pair again and see if that helps.
So I had paired my G3 with my 2014 Jeep Patriot (uConnect 430N) and all was working well until today. I needed to call my wife so I pressed the phone button and initiated a call. Little did I know that the contacts had not been downloaded. I tried re syncing the phone, removing it and re-adding it, initiating a download of the phone book and a bunch of other things to no avail.
The only way I would get the contacts to be downloaded, was to go to Contacts, select Share, then select a contact and initiating a download with the uConnect system and adding a single contact at a time. I tried sharing a bunch of contacts, but it would not work. The only way it remembered any of the contacts was to do one at a time.
Thankfully I'm not one of those guys that has 500 contacts in my phone book because this way of downloading and adding contacts would be ridiculous. I don't understand why it didn't download automatically (I did receive a prompt when I paired the phone to allow access and added uConnect as a trusted device as well.) Now, I have to wonder if any of the numbers change or an additional number is added to an existing contact, if it will be downloaded automatically or not? Also, if I add a new contact to my G3, will the system download it automatically or will I have to go through this each time I add a new contact?
I really don't think it is the uConnect system because it worked flawlessly and automatically added my whole phone book with my Nexus 5 as well as my Note 4. Does anyone have any experience with the G3 and uConnect and have any ideas as to why this wouldn't be automatic, or why it would work like this?
My phone and watch are not syncing contacts, any advice?
I guess thats a no on the advice, huh? Lol
Im having same issue. I only have about 7 contacts. I cant tell where there from,sim,Google,phone,etc.....
Same for me... Only a few contacts showing
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
So did you find a solution in the meantime ....
running 2.0 and no longer have any contacts at all.
I did use the right google account and I can actually place a call by speaking to it aka "Call my wife" and it will succeed.
But when you launch the phone or contacts it says 'temporarily unavailable'
I've tried resyncing apps. nothing. I've tried going to apps permissions and making sure they are all on as it relates to phone and contacts etc...no change. restarting both phone and watch, nothing.

Hi, same problem for me with my Samsung Galaxy S7 ! Have you find a solution ? Thanks
Yes, I found a solution. Factory resetting the watch fixed the issue for me.
