A while ago I was using lineage on my g5 but after some bank app issues, I started using the stock ROM again. After the Oreo update (November I guess?) some apps became unusable, some examples are the YouTube that freezes for more than 10 seconds and crashes shortly after or WhatsApp that when I click on any conversation it freezes for a long time before becoming responsible again. If I try to open any game it freezes on the splash art as well. I tried a factory reset but the problem still happens, so I downgraded to 7.0 and it still persists even though it wasn't happening in this version in the past.
I am out of ideas, any suggestions?

Do running problematic apps (that you have mentioned) while phone's in the safe mode change something? Does the phone feel more responsive than usually? If yes, try the following. Backup all of your important data and wipe your phone one more time (data + cache). Then, set it up as a brand new and start installing (don't restore them) the apps you use slowly (one by one) to determine, which one may cause lag.

Yeah the phone is more responsive. Everything is normal, then I tried opening YouTube (one of the problematic apps that aren't disabled in safe mode) and it is still freezing and after some seconds it is crashing. So the problem is still happening even in safe mode.
I thought it would be a problem with media in general but the photo app and chrome are working normally.

While experiencing the lag and freezing...
Do you have an sdcard inserted? If yes, is it formatted as an external storage or as an adoptable storage (means extends internal memory)?
Which ROM are you running (if stock, write its build number also)? Write all modifications made to your phone too (e.g. unlocked bootloader, TWRP or Magisk installed etc.), please.
One more thing to ask, which version of Moto G5 do you own (2/32 or 3/16) and aren't you running out of system resources (e.g. RAM) constantly? Check your average RAM usage (in Oreo, it's under "Developer options") and the apps which consume the biggest amount of the RAM.

Google Maps/Navigation will force-close on me within a few minutes every time a navigation route is plotted. Sometimes after it FCs the navigation icon will remain in the status bar and will even re-connect on occasion, however usually it just kills the process. This has been a recurring issue for me throughout the last few ROMs I've been trying (both TW and non-TW). I should also mention that when Maps/Navigation is launched I always get a prompt for missing Voice Guidance, saying, "...you need to install text-to-speech support from Android Market" which takes me to the SpeechSynthesis Data Installer application. After installing it, the prompts disappear but Maps/Navigation still crashes within one minute of GPSing. Also, I have verified that the Pico TTS text-to-speech output is selected as the preferred engine (before installing SpeechSynthesis Data Installer, so not sure why that prompt is coming up every time on both TW and CM).
Here are the steps I have taken so far without success:
ATTEMPT 1
Wiped Dalvik/System/Data/Cache from within TWRP
Formatted Data from within TWRP
Flashed Slim 7, cleared cache/Dalvik
Flashed Slim Gapps, cleared cache/Dalvik
Reboot, let phone sit, reboot
Installed Maps (crashed within 1 minute)
ATTEMPT 2 ([*gps fix] alternate gps fix])
Ran [root] Triangle Away - reset flash counter to 0
Odin back to stock TW
Samsung service mode *#197328640#
Mainmenu>UMTS>Common>NV REBUILD>NV REBUILD
Waited 30 seconds, rebooted
Installed Maps (crashed within 1 minute)
ATTEMPT 3
Wiped Dalvik/System/Data/Cache from within TWRP
Formatted Data from within TWRP
Ran XquiziT_SuperWipe_SGH_T999 from TWRP
Rebooted back to TWRP
Wiped Dalvik/System/Data/Cache from within TWRP
Rebooted back to TWRP
Flashed LiquidSmooth v2.8, cleared cache/Dalvik
Flashed official Gapps, cleared cache/Dalvik
Reboot
Install Maps
Settings>App Info>Maps>Clear data and Clear cache
Maps crashed within 1 minute
ATTEMPT 4
Wiped Dalvik/System/Data/Cache from within TWRP
Formatted Data from within TWRP
Flashed Slim 7, cleared cache/Dalvik
Flashed Slim Gapps, cleared cache/Dalvik
Reboot
Install Maps
Settings>App Info>Maps>Clear data and Clear cache
Reboot to TWRP, fixed permissions
Reboot --> maps crashed within 1 minute
Additional assistance will be very much appreciated! Thanks so much, I rely on Maps quite a bit and this issue is annoying ><
Sounds like you may be running out of memory? Try clearing in ram manager before opening maps.
In development options, check show cpu usage to watch for anything that happens everytime before it crashes. Also try the limit background processes options and see if it helps.
These are tw options, not sure if there are equivalents in cm

According to cpu usage I should be fine, especially since trying Maps/Nav from a fresh TW/CM install shouldn't rock my RAM too hard >< Thanks though!
Update: I tried using a different navigation app (MapQuest Mobile) and it runs perfectly fine. This issue is tied directly to Google Maps and Navigation, perhaps involving the text-to-speech output. I attached my logcat for review. Thanks :highfive:
FINAL UPDATE: Google updated their Maps app and now everything runs perfectly fine. Problem solved

I spoke too soon myself~ After running with it for a few days I can definitely report my issue persists as well. Still no solution in sight ><
EDIT: I ran across a solution that seems to work. Within Navigation, click the compass in the upper-right of the screen. This will keep the screen directions static, meaning north stays north, etc. This solved my issue after testing for 40+ minutes!

I found that static North mode helps, but it is still very unstable. I'm now having lots of other problems with my device. I would LOVE to know of a ROM and kernel combo that works with Google Maps. CM10 got so bad that I switched to SlimBean. I just need my device to be sufferable until I buy a Nexus 5 and NEVER buy another non-nexus device again. This is my 3rd Galaxy device and I have ended up in this state with everyone of them. (That's completely unsupported and unstable.)
Had a perfectly working 32gb lte device, then I used flashall to put on a stock image and wipe the device. Installed twrp, elemental and su, and it booted OK.
Now I'm getting random freezes in chrome, and a couple of other apps, specially when scrolling down the page, it just hangs for a few seconds.
Any tips? Would a factory reset achieve anything as that's effectively what flashall did.
Quick update, it seems to just be chrome which is freezing
Removed app and reinstalled, all seems OK now
*** 5 mins later it's freezing again
I flashed the Wolla v2.5 MRA58K.H6 with TWRP and had some questions/issues. The camera kept on force closing, even though on other apps it worked just fine. I occasionally have a "android system has stopped working" warning as well. Also, I was expecting the full wipe to wipe all the internal storage as well, but I don't believe it did?
Wanting to install the newest ROM but wondering if there is a way to easily back up all apps and such - it took a long time to get it up and running at this level and don't want to go through it again. Thoughts?
Try using Titanium Backup to back up your apps and data. Personally, I use a combination of SMS Super Backup for my SMS/Call logs and Titanium for my apps.
I'm using Wolla v3.5 GPE right now and everything is great except for some strange reboot/bootloop every time I open up Snapchat. Uninstalling the app seemed to have solved the issue, but I still want to be able to use it... It's probably to do with the new camera API.
I'll give that a try. What's the difference between 2.5 & 3.5?
Updated to 3.5 and wiped it all.
Everything is working well except the system will not let me install chrome, why I do not know. I've tried downloading from the app store, both normal and beta, and every time it force closes. I've tried having it install from on my computer through google play and it force closes. I've downloaded the apk and allowed install from unfamiliar sources and it will get to the install page, and say app not installed. What gives?
Also, it seems all of my internal folders have been wiped clean - this means when I open the M8's internal storage on my computer, there are no folders; no download, no dcim, nothing. Any advice on what's happening here?
Solved both issues using [this solution](http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684384). Internal memory was set to read only.
Hello, I am happy owner of 1+3 (coming from Xperia U) and I am very happy with this phone, no bugs at all except for this. Normally it works perfect but after maybe a day of usage without restarting phone, recent apps (or open apps) tab not showing any open apps but its definitely graphic bug only because all apps that I open again are normally loaded from memory. After restarting phone it works, even all opened apps before restart are showed. Oxygen OS 3.2.2. See screenshot before and after restart.

Sorry for links, this is my first post...
I'm Also having this problem in 3.2.2. Already had it in 3.2.1.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Here are your options
1. Factory reset
2. Root it and remove unwanted apps
3. Flash another ROM. My suggestion is flash this STOCK BASED ROM..Which is perfect.
Also just had this for the first time yesterday on 3.2.2. Recent apps reappeared after reboot.
Same problem for me
I had the same problem since last upgrade to Oxygen 3.2.2 and fixed with only doing a reboot to recovery (you can do it from power off menu if you mark the option advanced reboot in developer options or if you start the phone holding down power+volume down button at the same time) and then reboot to system normally again and voilá the recent apps button worked again for me.
Hope it helps.
Un saludo.
Get in touch with OP support team
Guys, I have talked with OnePlus 3 support. They wanted to schedule a remote support session with me, but that involves flashing a new firmware, and as I do not feel like tinkering with my new phone I had to decline.
Is anyone experiencing this issue wanting to do some flashing to help the community? Just open a ticket with OP3 explaining the problem. They'll get in touch in no time.
Anyone?
Same problem for me on Oxygen 3.2.4. Only reboot helps!
Clear google app data
This is supposedly a google voice activation bug.
To fix it (atleast temporarily) clear the Google App's data from application settings, then the Recents window starts showing the apps
Awesome! That worked for me. (OnePlus X)
I received the latest AT&T update a week or so ago containing the 2.5 One UI update. After the update, I am experiencing some really strange issues with a variety of Google services.
1) Google Play Store updates are stalling. Most apps will download to a high percentage of completion (98% for example) and then just stall. If I leave the phone sit for a long time, eventually the updates will finish. This happens with every single app update or new download. I have 100GB free on the phone and it occurs on multiple networks (WIFI and AT&T).
2) GMail attachments won't download. They also stall at 0%.
3) I don't receive any incoming text messages when Google Messages Chat is enabled. Turning off chat and switching to SMS works though several texts say they failed to send and I have to retry (and they always end up going through). WIFI Calling is enabled.
4) Notifications from multiple apps are returning after I swipe them away. (Notification reminders is turned off in accessibility settings).
I did the usual - cleared cache in Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, Download Manager. I cleared the cache after booting to recovery. When none of that fixed it, I completely reset my phone to factory conditions. Everything worked fine for 2 days and then today, all of the problems came back.
Everything else about the phone is normal as usual. I can't figure this one out and don't know what else to troubleshoot.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu.

Is that the same thing as clearing the cache after booting to recovery? (Volume up and power button)

That's it. Can work like voodoo on lots of gremlins.
If that doesn't get it try clearing data on the Google apps. Might have to take it back to the stone age but probably not.
Reboot afterwards if you do. Playstore is a pain.
If the OS hasn't been reloaded since Q was flashed consider reloading to get a snappy clean load.
My 3rd OS load is the best.
Although I'm still running Pie, it's fast and very stable... lol, I like dinosaurs. I don't update a lot as it usually causes more problems than it solves.
I had cleared the cache from recovery before I factory reset and it didn't fix it. However, I just tried it again on the new rebuild and this time I cleared the cache 5 times in a row and then rebooted. It appears to have fixed all of the problems. I wonder if it was a bad app update to Google Play Services after the restoration to factory conditions?

Sometimes you're better off staying on the factory load versions. I never let auto updates run.
I keep Playstore disabled unless I want to use it or check for updates because of this and it also is a resource pig.
Manually doing it makes spotting the trouble maker easier.
I also keep backup copies of known good updates for system apks so that the factory load isn't my only recourse if a apk been updated more than once. APK Export is a great freeware app for doing this. Backup all your Playstore apps too for faster and easier reloads. Plus if Playstore discontinues the app, you still have it. Been boned by Playstore* once too often.
*sometimes the software goes greedy, gets sold or there's a licensing issue. Either way once it's gone having a known good copy makes life so much easier.
Hello,
The same thing is happening to me but for several months now. I am in Spain with Movistar. The only way I could get them to update the Google Play APPs was to switch my mobile to "safe mode" and from there it really works.
I'm going to try a factory reset, to see how it went.

A reload probably won't help. It will very likely reoccur.
It sounds like a 3rd* party apk is the culprit.
Find the root cause and correct it.
It may be just a setting issue in a 3rd party apk.
*they include carrier, Samsung and misc others you installed.
