Hello all! sorry my first post is a question.
I have a GT3 8.0, and love it. It is the first tablet and Android device I have owned and it's taking a little while to get used to. I have rooted it and installed arshull's great galatab kernel and rom, which made a huge difference and made it much more like a pc in terms of flexibility and modability.
One element has me totally stumped, and that is the whole mhl/hdmi thing.
Essentially I have full screen pauses when watching movies and the Eurosport Player and other streaming services. I had a similar problem on my PC which I also have connected to my TV and solved it by changing the 'refresh rate' of the GPU. Homever I'm having problems figuring out the same thing on my tab. I've tried overclocking and underclocking to see if that changes how it stutters but nothing. I'm hoping you guys and gals cab answer a couple questions for me?
1. What does the tab 3 8.0 output through mhl? is is 1080p or 720p and what is the refresh rate?
2. Can either of these be changed either app or kernel level?
3. Does the tab draw two separate screens or just its display which is then sent out tot the tv ( ive tried benchmarkimg with the mhl in and out and there is only a slight difference)?
4. my telly is not the newest and is limited to 50hz. Does this make a difference?
Any and all help is greatfully received. I've been programming and messing about with computers for years so a more technical solution is achievable, but I was hoping that someone had already done it!
Regards,
John
Hello
When I use the Live TV via Kodi, as soon as I change the channel, it crash
Since logs are better than randoms word, here the full log of kodi, where I simply launched Kodi 14 and started streaming TV (to make sure it's as clean as possible) : http://pastebin.com/z1Ly3zxL
Anyone has an idea to fix that?
Thanks
Try to use different PVR client or switch to SPMC. Works there for me.
Try the hts addon I posted on the kodi forums...

Two questions, please:
1) Did you find a resolution?
2) What are you using for a tuner?

Unfortunately, nope, I don't watch TV that much so it's not really critical for me, but it still bugging me.
I'm using that as tuner : http://avertv.avermedia.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=519 - version A835.

Have you been here?: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/AVerMedia
The last line says the A835 is supported under Linux, so I'd say your chances of getting it to work are better than nothing. FWIW

It work perfectly under linux, I use TVHeadend without problem anywhere else, but on the FireTV, it crash if I change the channel (Let say that I'm watching the 1st channel, and want to change to the second, well, then, Kodi crash)

Now I feel very bad. I swear I just read about a solution for that. From feeble memory, it was in TVHeadend - not in Kodi.
I'll go pick through my browser history. Maybe I can find it again...
EDIT: This is pounding on my head - 19:15:45 T:1716336336 ERROR: CDVDVideoCodecAndroidMediaCodec:: Failed to create Android MediaCodec

It work, but it's not really usable as a solution, CPU get overloaded and video drop frames: http://i.imgur.com/qYRBVTd.jpg , however it would indicate a problem with the hardware video decoder, in that case, out of luck for me, no chance of fixing it without at least having root.

Well, damn.
If it's any comfort, we may be in this together. I ordered a Hauppauge 1191 WinTV-HVR-950Q today. But at least I know if it doesn't work with the Fire, it will work on my Pi.

It's a boring but not critical issue, the TV is working fine as long as you don't change channel. beside, it might still be fixable by adding a delay to the channel switch. I know TVHeadEnd is a bit special (I also had issue on the Pi (RPi 1 B 256MB Ram) that I needed a proxy to fix.)
Does the CPU get overloaded if you just turn off libstagefright? What doesn't work if you do? (I don't even know what it does.)

I've tried turning off libstagefright on my FireTVStick and it seems to work most of the time - occasionally the audio and picture go out of sync on the BBC HD channels* and quick channel change fixes it for a while. Alas, as with Kodi on my Nexus 7 and Z1 Compact Kodi just exits on it's own occasionally (presumably memory management). With stagefright on the picture was awful (3-4 fps). This is with TVHeadend connected to a DVB-S2 Sat>IP Tuner (via HomePlugs), a DVB-T2 USB tuner and 2xDVB-T USB tuners.
I have to point out that I've used it massively as it's connected to the same TV as my media centre PC (was more interested in seeing if the stick would be a viable alternative for the Raspberry Pi in the kitchen), and well the Fire TV Stick has only been available for two days!
* Not seen this on BBC ONE East Midlands SD or any other SD channel, or indeed Channel 4 HD. The BBC HD channels are rather high bit rate and didn't work properly on my Pi before over-clocking that so might be hitting the limits of what is possible here too.
Hi,
since changing FPS is finally possible, i was thinking of having an app to switch it?
right now, it works like this: http://www.aftvnews.com/fire-os-5-adds-partial-24p-25p-30p-video-support-to-the-amazon-fire-tv/
For the final version of Fire OS 5, the button combination to bring up resolution cycling has been changed to holding REVERSE and UP
But doing so, will take 10sec for each framerate/resolution until you can set it (60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, 24p + 1080p-480p).
Is there an App which can set the desired refreshrate by one click?
I believe at this point even if you could switch the refresh rate more easily it wouldn't really be worthwhile as the output is literally 24p which in reality is not what you want. For true 24p on a TV the actual refresh rate output needs to be 23.976fps (not sure why some apparently brain-dead engineer at Amazon thought 24.000fps is a good idea).
Yes please. I want to try swapping to 24p.
But i have a broken remote. Can only controll AFTV via ir remote(keyboard commands)
Anone have tip?

Honestly on my 4k tv my ftv2 only seems to have the smoothest playback with the 24p(2160p) setting. Anything else and it's bad jerking or stuttering, at least with kodi.

And now with the latest 5.2.1.0 update the 2160p option is removed entirely as a choice when you use the hidden settings trick. It only cycles thru 1080p, 720p, and 480p but oddly enough it actually outputs 2160p when you get to 1080p 25hz and 1080p 24hz. It still does not output true 4k thru kodi at least with the 4k test image.
Yeah this would be awesome if someone could make this..
Both SPMC and MrMC have auto frame rate switching now, so someone should be able to make a simple app.. like TVHZ but for Fire TV.
Still no "simple" app for this.. would be a great addition!
Kodi v17 can switch the refreshrate too now, just like SPMC.
this makes things much easier! yea
Is it just me or does Kodi not work on 120hz? I cannot seem to get it to work unless I go back to 60hz. Is there anther version or a work around?
Please do not any info about add ons. I just simply want Kodi to work on my s20 without having to toggle 120hz every time I open it.

Ai think you've answered your own question.
Until 120 really does become mainstream I think you're going to have to revert to 60.
Any way to make a role so that Kodi only runs in 60hz? Saving you from having to change it manually?
I guess this would affect most streaming services and probably other apps that haven't took 120 into account

Thank you for this info. I was hoping you'd tell me there is a setting in missing or there is a modded version of kodi that works with 120hz. But i guess I'll just have to wait. Thanks for the info.

I'd love to see 120hz movies as I've got a 120hz TV. But I don't think there's that much call for it just yet.
Maybe in time.
I was super excited to get my fold3 thinking that the game would be awesome on such a big screen. Unfortunately, the default resolution in-game is outright blurry; everything seems fuzzy, even with AA on. I've used gfx tools in the past, but it doesn't want to work on this phone no matter what I do. I've tried all of their troubleshooting tips, and no luck.
Has anyone been able to find a viable fix?
Same issues here with lineage 2
Have you checked in game settings for graphics setting?
