Make a PDF OCRable - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, so using more and more the tab s4 I find I could really use an app for android (but I'll even take it for mac if that's the only way) to make OCR out of a pdf.
I would need this in "2 versions", first with handwriting, some way to make OCR out of my handwriting (I already have the pdfs ready, they're just not searchable) and second to make another not handwritten pdf , searchable.
I tried looking online but I could only find apps that let you snap a photo and then make it searchable but I already have an app that does this, I can already make pdfs I just need to make the ones that I already have, searchable.
Really hope someone can help me thanks!

For searchable PDF's. I didn't read this so I don't know if this is what you're looking for. https://techwiser.com/5-best-ocr-app-for-android/
Adobe Acrobat Reader has a search function.

The Adobe reader will read your current PDF's and search through them....solves at least part of your problem.

So I'm awaiting delivery of my Tab S4 but I did download this on to my Moto Z3 phone today at no cost and it searches PDF's. May be different for the Tab.

Indeed that makes a pdf searchable but it has a subscription fee. And it's not that low. I was looking for something that was free or at least pay once can use forever

That is interesting, they must charge differently for tablets. On my phone the search is a basic feature with the subscription for the upgraded tools. We'll see what happens to me at the end of the month when I get the S4.

Kindle for Android mods

I love my kindle for Android! Being able to make notes and highlight is awesome. I read in the dark with the fonts white and the backgroud darkend...my wife is not disturbed in bed anymore with reading lights. Lately, the weather has chilled a bit here in SoFla so I like reading on the pool patio in the dark. Thanks to calibre, I can take all my .pdf books and convert them to .mobi...but...
My problem is:
I read from two devices (for example: Dell Sreak 5 and Toshiba Thrive and work with .mobi files on the laptop. So I've got two Androids and a pc that I switch back and forth. The laptop is NOT very important because I doen't read w/ it. Just proof files w/ it. As you are likely aware, I cannot sync my notes, etc accross the devices.
I see two problems. I want my Kindle for Android app to refer to a cloud (like dropbox) for books.
...and I want it to store the notes, highlights, etc there too. Or at least sync them to the cloud location.
I figured out how to get the app to sync with the cloud in a rudimentary way. I used foldersync from the market to sync the ../kindle on my local to the ../kindle in my dropbox. This does not have an effect on notes, etc. They do note sync.
From what I know, the Kindle app writes these notes and marks to a text file on the device. I believe that syncing this file to the cloud wont work because it will simple overwrite the older file. It cannot update the actual file contents so I think I require that the Kindle app write notes directly to the cloud. Now I understand this would require I have an internet connection at all times for this to work. I can live with that unless someone can come up with a better idea.
I do not want to break any forum rules so how do I go about getting this done? I am, of course refering to hiring a Kindle Geek to possibly modify the Kindle app for my purposes.
I am not sure if it does notes, but if you use Amazon Calibre plugin to add the amazon id (ASIN) to your .mobi files. I know that furthest page read and bookmarks sync across all of your devices/apps.
I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for but it may still be helpful.

Just update metadata after installing amazon plugin. I'm mobile right now+ will try to find a howto when I get home.
Essentially it finds amazon asin and sets book type to ebok

My apologies if I posted improperly. Since I directed my request to the developers, I figured it belonged here.
Lemmee 'splain were i'm at right now. I stumbled on repligo for .pdf's and wow! It does more than I wanted on the android platform. It integrates with dropbox so the master is easily kept on the dropbox folder and annotations are all kept within the .pdf itself.
My only complaint is there is no dictionary feature for words within the doc and saving is not automatic. You have to push the save periodically or when your done. I had to get used to dropbox cuz it was saving on the cache folder on my sd and changes did not migrate. You must make sure you are working from the cloud version and not your cached version, although I believe that is easily fixed if that did happen.
This option is ok for me, however, I am looking for a more simple scenario. I do not want to set my wife up with this because she doesnt get into the details that much. She just wants a kindle experience with annotations on both of her devices for ebooks that are not on amazon server.
For the moment though, this repligo app has rich features that make this experience wonderful. For me!

Handwriting to text apps?

Although I prefer other keyboards on my Note 10.1, I'm sorta "stuck" with the preinstalled Samsung keyboard because of it's very decent handwriting-to-text capabilities.
Does anyone know of equally good apps which allow H-to-T, even better if it's possible to recognize handwriting from saved notes?
Any other good keyboards which have H-to-T? I've tried Swype, but it's not as good as Samsung's...
Thanks for your input!
I've been wondering this myself but I learned to love the sammy H-to-T even on AOSP roms on my Original Note I717, and having the Note 10.1 just makes this keyboard better. Now that feature you mentioned about recognizing text from notes, now that would be sexy...if you know what I mean.
Try 7notes available on Google play, you can use the inbuilt app to write notes in your handwriting and convert later or can do on the fly conversions with any app that allows keyboard entry. The recognition is the best I have seen on any app to date.
Another app you can try is notes mobile, currently only available from the Samsung app market which also allows you to take notes and convert later.

I'll take a look at 7notes, thanks! But I can't find "notes mobile" on the Samsung Apps page. Who's the maker, or if you can just send the link?

Thanks! I actually found it searching the forum here! It is really good at what it does!
There are 3-4 different note taking apps out there which have something particular about them that make them special, and things that you hate. I wish someone would make one that had it all!
Thanks again!

Looking for a PDF Reader

If you are only looking for PDF reader, then just go with any really. All are good!
However, you are looking for PDF reader + epub, mobi etc support go for moon+reader. It has speech and many cool options
If you are looking for PDF+ Office documents, just try office365
I am using both apps (paid versions) and there is not any app better than them in my opinion. Free ones are as great but Office365 free version won't let you edit documents.

I tried iannotate and it really has a nice system of tabs to open multiple PDF files and that was what I needed. But the App itself is a little buggy and not very fluent (can't even compare to Adobe). Do you know any other?
Thank you
Radaeel pdf , not sure if its compatible if you get it from playstore, but google the apk if u can't get in the playstore
QuickOffice by Google ?
Maybe OfficeSuite (not free)...
I never used a multi-pdf viewer so I couldn't really tell
Kingsoft Office?

You need EBookDroid.
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ebookdroid
It's a great PDF reader, and I use it to read my university books all the time, jumping from one book to another.
I paid for Moon+ Reader Pro in the past, but I've found EBookDroid works a lot better.
I like Foxit.
I tried EbookDroid and even though I liked it, it doesn't have a decent way to change quickly between PDFs. I think I'm gonna stick to iAnotate.
just go for adobe reader.
Try RepliGo Reader, ability to add notes and stuff

I read a lot pdf's on my nexus and i tried most of pdfs readers and i can truly say that mantano reader is the best for big pdf files
Mantano is slow as hell and does not support in pdf files included page numbers.
I have to read an insane amount for school, so i personally use Moon Reader or Foxit for those few PDF's that Moon Reader has a problem rendering. Kingsoft is nice for just reading but doesnt have any good markup options like Moon or Foxit. Moon is pretty feature rich and has options for both day and night time reading to reduce strain on your eyes which is helpful if you have to go late into the night.
Cheers
I like Adobe Reader but the tabs system is really important for me. I study engineering and I need to have one PDF with exercises opened and another PDF with the theory, that's the way I'm used to work with my computer and I bought a tablet mainly because it's very light and portable.
The ability to write notes and underline words/sentences on PDFs isn't very important to me, I don't use it.
ezPDF reeder is the best on android, and 10% of GoodReeader on IOS
using xda app-developers app
I tried a lot of PDF readers only ones with both good text reflow and reversed/nightview ifound were ezPDF Reader (paid) and Adobe Reader. I think paid Moon+ has that too with PDFI. For epub it is by far the best imo and I am consisering buyong pro.
In my opinion every reader should have reversed/nightview for when one has to read much or at night. So ridiculous that so much pdf readers don"t have that or automatic resizing text to fit screen They shouldn't even be called a reader-app.
In EzPDF Reader you can switch easy to other pdf's via recent documents. It will remember the pages of all the pdf's where you were at. If that is what you mean. I like it a lot it has a lot of options. .
But if Moon + pro is as good with pdf as with epub I might switch in the near future. (It has better animated page flip with epub than Ez with pdf also by the way).
try SmartQ Reader.it's the best PDF reader that i ever used

Hi guys,
I have just released a new slim pdf annotation app that targets those of us who want to annotate while we are reading documents. This app is not for note taking (for those who need that I recommend Papyrus).
My app is the slimmest PDF reader, with pen and marker annotation, I have seen. It is easy to use, and it allows you to annotate and highlight as you read. Exactly as you do on paper. It is extremely easy to switch between the pen and the marker; and to toggle colours.
Also – the app recognizes the difference between your finger and the stylus. Fingers are used to move, zoom and erase. The stylus is used to annotate.
A free version of Stylus Annotator is available on Play. Please try it and rate it.
I tried this and found it useful
iAnnonate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.branchfire.android.iannotate
I've tried em all. If you're looking for something that you can take notes directly on pdf's while keeping the searchable text xodo and ezpdf are the best. XODO has much better performance and UI but EZpdf has way more options except it's clunky and ugly.

Google ebook and S-pen

Hello, I am considering to buy Google ebook. I clicked on a sample button and the ebook was launched by some kind of browser. I tried to select a word or a series of word using the S pen but this function did not work.
1. How come the S pen features do not work on Google ebook? Any way to make them work?
2. If I want to underline, highlight, annotate text and pictures using different colors, what can I do?
3. Can I convert ebook into pdf format so that I can view and annotate using ezpdf viewer?
4. Do I need to have internet connection in order to view ebook? I wonder if it will be downloaded and saved to the Note PRO locally.
Thanks.

If you launched it via the website on the device, it's a temporary file that you can't access. On a Mac it might be located in Temporary files, provided Apple has such a folder.
But if you install one of the apps you should (mind you, I've never used Google Books) be able to select it to open in one of those.
I clicked on Play Book and I could view the ebook from there. However, I cannot find the location where the source file is saved. I want to transfer the source file to my Mac to conversion to pdf.
I can also find the ebook after logging into my google account from Mac. When I clicked on it, it opens. I also cannot find the source file.
On Google Play Store in a web browser on a computer you can go into books and then my books... Each of your books will have a 3 dot menu that has download options for epub and pdf.... Keep in mind that you are dealing with DRM/copyrighted material so don't expect to be getting unprotected files out of the application...
What you end up with are not straight epub or PDF files though. No idea what they are but that's as far as I got with just a minute of searching via google.
Good luck.
