Are their any Pixel 3XL owners who are on the Google Beta Program? My weather information continues to disappear in the "At A Glance" section. If you've experienced this are there any workarounds aside from unenrolling from the Beta program?
my understanding was this was a server-side issue last time it occurred....but I could be wrong.....I am in beta program and yes have lost weather as of yesterday afternoon. When this happened last month it was all Home devices but my other ones are showing weather still...
If you uninstall the update the weather will come back. If you reinstall the beta update it will work again only for a short time and then will disappear again.

Yeah. On a different, yet related note, I noticed that when in the current Google beta program, long pressing my Pixel Buds and asking for the time or what the weather's going to be like didn't illicit a response, yet asking to play the next track or tell me what's on my agenda would work just fine. When I unenrolled from the program and used the regular Google app everything worked fine. Weird, huh?? I wanted to stay in the beta program so I could use and listen to the Google Podcasts app on my wireless Android Auto Pioneer Nex4400 Unit. I can't do that on the regular Google app
I was on Beta of Google app and my weather disappeared 2 days ago. Funny, I was just searching about this very subject. I had to uninstall the beta version and install standard version then weather showed right away. You can always put the weather app on your homescreen but it takes up more space.
Left the beta today because of this. I want my weather to be there for easy access on the main screen. If and when they fix it, then maybe I'll come back to the beta. Not that they care...lol.
i just added a shortcut on the homescreen until it magically comes back good enuf for me.

Really? "Not that they care". It's beta for a reason. Some stuff isn't going to work correctly. If they didn't care they wouldn't release beta's. It's how Google figures out what if any adverse effects any changes they made have in the real world.

I meant that not that they care if I'm on the beta or not. I'm a software developer myself, I know what "beta" means. I just don't like missing options I use daily.
I believe the new beta that just came out today, v9.0.3.21 solves the weather problem.
nope still broken here after getting the latest beta....
Yep same here with the latest beta

Updated to latest beta, still no weather
Delete cache, uninstall, reboot and re-install latest beta. end up still no beta, guess i have to leave beta program?

Yeah, that's what I did. I joined again after hearing there was a new update, but it seems like it did not fix according to those here. Mine is still showing weather, but the bug usually causes it to leave after some time. Guess we'll see. If it goes away again, I'll leave the beta again I guess. I like being a member of the beta and getting the new features first, but I do like having the weather there as well.
Edit: Nope. Weather went away again. Oh well, leave the beta again...
11 minutes ago, updated to the latest beta version 9.0.4.21 and still no fix in sight. did a cache clear and reboot

Ok, i am correcting myself
I did a cache clear, uninstall update and reboot my phone. Finally updated to the latest beta 9.0.4.21 and the weather is back.
Edit:
The weather wont update, so i found a solution in reddit
Swipe right to get to the Google screen, then tapping the 3 dots > settings > discover > reset discover preferences.
Hope that helps

I am on the latest 7.1.2 Verizon build and I noticed when I did a factory reset that in Google+ settings, I no longer have the option under settings to keep the contacts up to date. This option would always keep my user profile picture under the phone settings to stay updated instead of a blank photo. Anybody else seeing this?
Yes, thank you! I thought I was going nuts lol
I just got a OnePlus 3t (my N5x put itself in reboot purgatory) and while trying to set it up, I couldn't find this option for the LIFE of me.
Any idea on how we can get this functionality back?
I really liked how it synced with my G+ profile pic and I never had to worry about it...

Google removed it a couple weeks ago. You have to load your own image under quick settings account now. As for tracking contacts where abouts you can do it through maps. But the person you tracking needs to set up who they share location with

This fixed worked 100% for me. While it's a bit annoying way to get back functionality, there's really not much to it.
I also tested it by letting the app update from the Play Store, then changing my profile pic in g+ and it updated in android. Win!

On Marshmallow (6.0.1), I was getting "App not Installed" errors when I tried to install the old APK over the new one; had to revert the G+ app to stock (Settings > Apps > Google + - tap top right, then "Uninstall Updates") first to get the older APK to install.

I have the same problem on my Pixel XL running 7.1.2 (NJH47B).
The fix is fine at first, but stops working when I update Google+ to the latest version again.
Funnily enough, this doesn't affect my older devices running Android 6.x and below - my profile picture stays ok regardless of Google+ version.
Help, anybody?
Any luck for anyone?

I've tried downgrading but as soon as the app is updated the pic disappears, I'm on a Nexus 6P 7.1.2.
The same thing happen on the beta version of Android O.
Is the beta rootable thru the usual method? Or did I need to download a beta or canary version of Magisk?
Rooted the beta thru canary version of Magisk. The beta is definitely not a daily driver at this point. Almost all Google apps won't stay open. They just close, even in safe mode. Also, getting lots of random reboots.
Edit: Removing canary magisk has caused most of the issues I was experiencing to stop.
Yeah, get rid of that app or keep that app and use mirror versions of the Google Apps and manually update those as they come available. Google Play once it detects any one app on a huge list of "risky" apps Google will shut it down for "security " reasons, they have been known to blacklist accounts and or devices and completely wash any account attached to it for violation of "their piss poor security provisions") not sure how that's legal and it's completely b.s but whatever. There are all kinds of ways around it, it all boils down to, knowing what your doing, what to look for and basically manipulating the Google Apps or play store, it's really about how important is it to ya, because all the work around are time consuming and a pain in the ass at best, hope that helps?

I've been rooting my phones since I first got a Razr. I have never had an issue with Google's security. My guess is since we have to use a canary version of Magisk, it has got some bugs that need to be squashed
A majority of the issues is Google, it started around the first of the year, they are playing I'm your daddy and you will comply games. Samsung is getting ready at some point in the future to wash their hands of Google/Android and do their own thing over it and other issues. Google has gotten to big for their pee pants and all of us have started feeling the backlash of Google and their big daddy fight

Well, if Google is gonna start acting like Apple might as well get an iPhone
Using beta Android and rooted it using the canary method. It's behaving pretty stable. On the first beta my phone was crashing and bootlooping (at lockscreen) as I had enabled the media resumption feature. But I was able to disable it from safe mode. But since beta 1.5 (June 17 update) it's working fine too.
Only issue I'm seeing (not necessarily to this update) I'm unable to have more than 2-3 apps in memory. They reload everytime. I guess 4Gb ram is too less

Just simply go under settings to "Network & Internet --> Advanced (Or "More Connection Settings" on other phones) --> Select Private DNS mode --> Private DNS Provider Hostname --> type the following: dns.adguard.com and hit save. You are done! Now you have system-wide Ad blocking on all apps. It's that simple. No need for root or anything else. I've tried this on my Note 10 + 5G and my Pixel 3 XL and it works like a charm.

I had already added adguard in the private dns settings. While it does block ads, using energized pro with root is much more effective at blocking ads.
I did a clean install of Android 11 Beta and rooted again thru canary Magisk. Same issues with Google apps closing or acting sluggish. I decided to turn on Magiskhide for all things google and that fixed the issue. Looks like Google is clamping down harder on Magisk users

It's great for me. Signal strength took a bit of a hit, but otherwise no real issues that I can see.
For what it's worth to anyone wanting to try the beta 2 root, it doesn't work. After fastboot flashing the canary magisk (app-debug.apk) the digitizer stops working on boot. I'm guessing topjohnwu removed the other apk for that reason, but save yourself the effort until he gets the other apk out.
Edit: I was able to get past the "beta warning" popup, by plugging in a mouse, but outside of that workaround, the digitizer still doesn't work. Root DID take, but only with the digitizer caveat.
The thread title says it all. This is driving me absolutely insane. On reboot, probably about 70% to 80% of the time, OnePlus launcher gets magically put on default status over Nova on reboot. The same problem would occasionally happen on my 8 Pro as well, but it happens more frequently on my 9 Pro.
Of course I have set Nova as default launcher under the settings menu. This simply does not stick on reboot the majority of the time for some reason. I've tried everything, even moving Nova APK to system app folder. OnePlus launcher sucks so bad. I even tried freezing the OnePlus launcher, but it screwed up my gesture navigation, so I unfroze it.
I'm not sure what's causing this bug, but if anyone knows how to fix it would do cartwheels of joy.
Unfortunately I've had this same issue since my OnePlus 5T. It's likely an Oxygen OS thing cause I never had this issue when I used a custom ROM on my 5T or 6T. I haven't been able to find a fix for this on Oxygen OS though
I've have this occasionally, not often though. I usually set OnePlus launcher as default, then go back into settings and change it back to Nova. Holds for me through many reboots or sometimes if I flash something in Magisk.
I have no fix, but it happens on Pixel 4a android 11 roms too. Not on my Pixel 3, or 3a. Weird.
I've had this issue 3 or 4 times so far. The frustrating part is after it forgets default launcher I can't get it to stick again. When I go to default apps and select Nova, it just goes back to None & home takes me to OnePlus launcher. I always manage to fix it but never in a consistent way.
After setting nova launcher as default, also turn off battery optimization for nova launcher. This is my 3rd OP phone, and i didn't face this issue as you guys
Happened to me too.
I just once selected one launcher as standard, then Nova again.
And it stuck.

That happened to me only once on my 8 Pro. Did the same thing and never had the problem. It ha snot happened with my 9 Pro.
Run Nova on two 9 Pros without this issue, what version are you running? Have you moved on to Nova7?
I would check under Settings>Apps and notifications>App Permissions and also Special app access and ensure you've given Nova everything it's asking for. As above, try turning off battery optimisation for Nova too.
Also, obviously, check under Settings>Apps and notifications>Default apps and ensure Nova is listed as the "Home App"
I haven't had this issue since jumping to the latest Nova7.

I think I figured out what's causing my issue! I had an app installed called 'screen balance', that draws over other apps. It changes the tint/white balance of the screen. Man, with it on, the screen looks so much better. But I guess I'm forced to keep it off for now.
This started happening to me about a week ago (august 15), and since this is a "kind of old" thread I don't know what your problem was, but in my case I tracked it down to an update of:
* Device Health Services
* Digital Wellbeing
If I go to the Playstore and uninstall the updates to those two apps the problem goes away.
I also unchecked the Auto-Update option to avoid the issue in the short term.
Best regards

Until I ended on this topic. Trully, thank you. really.

Upgrades on the server side can cause outages. Try again after some time and update to the latest version
Much of the app seems to have suddenly shifted. I'm not sure I understand many of the changes especially as it's not been updated for 2 weeks
Seems to be working for me.

The app works so-so. It could definitely use tons of improvement. It's good for push notifications. Every once in a while, clicking on a push notification will start launching the XDA app but then it goes away. Relaunching manually from the app icon works fine afterward.

I thought it was just me. I switched back from iphone and didn't realize how much xda has changed since my older android endeavors.
I have not been able to use the app since 11/2 when it updated on all of my devices. It just hangs at the XDA logo. Have cleared cache, force stopped it, cleared data, and even uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it still doesn't work. There are plenty of comments on the Google Play Store with complaints about the app not working but the app developers seem to be ignoring the comments including mine. A little acknowledgement from the developers about it would go a long way.
App never worked for me. Never loaded anything.
We've got a thread about this very crash in the xda app forum (2/3 of us are on pixel 6 pro and at least one comment in google PlayStore was a p6p too)

So the latest PlayStore update has broken the app on Android 12. On my Pixel 6 Pro it worked fine on previous version but now it freezes on XDA logo and app never loads. Tried clearing cache/data. but no difference.

Yesterday this app would just force close after I opened it, but today it seems to open but it won't keep me logged in. How the hell can an app made by this community have so many problems? This is baffling to me.

I had to delete app data a couple times yesterday because it would get the XDA loading screen and then go back to the home screen.

The app itself is so strange to begin with. It's part forum app part browser. I definitely preferred Tapatalk.
Since the latest update, when I open the phone app for the first time (or after it shuts down from timeout), a few of my favorites seem to "flash". If this doesn't make sense, I'll try to post attach a video later tonight. Can anyone tell me why this is and how to disable it?
Instructions to reproduce: Click favorites on phone app so it is first to display on reopening. Force close phone app. Open phone app.
So, after playing with this more, I found out that this only happens when I'm signed in to my Duo account. The contacts that flash don't seem to coincide with those who have Duo access, especially since one of the accounts that flash is a landline only account.
So far, I haven't been able to find a fix or a way to disable this. It is super annoying when I'm used to just opening the phone app and clicking on a favorite, only to have it fail because the favorite flashed and didn't capture the touch input.
I agree this is due to Duo....havent looked into it, but yeah its a bit annoying IMHO too!
Seems to be solved in the latest update of the dialer app (I received it this morning): 76.0.431816759

Not fixed here. Same app version as yours.
