I'm not sure how I did this the other day, but I had two of the same app (samsung messages)show up in my recents app screen, and by doing this I could select 2 windows to text two different people, i have been playing around with themes lately so maybe it was a theme? or glitch? either way it was really nice to do that, as you see in the picture below this only shows 1 window with a person I am texting, but before i had 2 instances of samsung messages with two different people i was texting.

just would like to ask if anyone has experienced receiving SMS messages received via XDA IIs is of different format from that of how it is received in nokia fons?
What happens is that a multi-lined SMS in a nokia screen, when received thru the XDA will appear as if the SMS was written in a single sentence without spaces in between the words.
could anybody direct me on how to fix this? or is there any software I need to install for this to be fixed?
cheers!
Never experienced that myself.
WHat I *have* found, though, is that any carriage returns (new line) you send from the XDA gets ignored by other phones
The problem I've found is that autocorrect uses a different apostrophe character. ` as opposed to ', and most phones show a 'no character' box in the word.
If you are thinking of ASCII arts, the problem is very simple..
They are made WITHOUT carriage return..
Nokia displays from the 51xx series and newer all had a maximum of 14 characters, and 4 rows of text.
The nokia scrolls through the message by showing lines 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 and so on..
Now, many of the people who made these ASCII arts didn't think of compability at all.. They could use X number of spaces to fill a line, instead of using carriage return, or simply use many characters..
These people are idiots!
So the text
8888888888888888888XXX88888888888XXX88888888888888888888
sendt to a Nokia phone would be displayed like this:
88888888888888
88888XXX888888
88888XXX888888
88888888888888
But on our beloved XDA devices, wich have a few more characters than 14 per line, you get
8888XXXXX88888888888X888888888888X888888888888XXXXX88888
On the other hand, if the message was made like this:
8888XXXXX88888[RETURN]888888X8888888[RETURN]88888X88888888[RETURN]8888XXXXX88888
You would get
8888XXXXX88888
888888X8888888
88888X88888888
8888XXXXX88888
On both Nokia and XDA..
Don't know if this is what you were thinking of, but it felt good to say that they are idiots!
thanks bonzo! that really explains it! i think since this is a compatibility issue between nokia and XDAs so it would just be an added problem if we have a third party software installed on this since we receive sms messages from different mobile phone manufacturers.
cheers!
Ive searched hundreds of posts but all the answers are the same. If you are annoyed by getting multi picture or pictures with words from iPhone users coming through as a slideshow or video, the simply install Handcent SMS and the problem magically goes away. We'll I've had Handcent for years and I still have the same problem. I've got it installed and it's set as the default as far as I can tell, I still get slideshows from my iPhone friends when the send multi picture mms messages. Can someone please tell me exactly how to make Handcent show these as single pictures where I can zoom in?
Affects me as well

This is also a problem for me. It's affected all of my Android devices.
It seems that when I receive an MMS from any other user (not just iPhone users) it will be displayed as a slide show instead of an image if the message was sent along with text. This happens even if the attachment is only one image.
It is also triggered if the sender's message has two or more images (even if no text).
I can't begin to describe how annoying this is. From internet searches this has been an issue since at least 2010.
Any way to get around the cards for multiple text messages. It really defeats the purpose of the watch that you can only read one text message (ie two messages and you get the 2 new messages card)
Well, solved my biggest issue. Ditched the stock messaging app for Textra. Worked fine.
My phone doesnt always send txts right away, sometimes I will send 2 or 3 txts in a row and last one might send and other ones will say sending, I use verizon messaging app, restarting the phone or turning data on helps sometimes.

I don't have a fix for this but have the same issue and thought it was the app I used for texting, Contacts, excellent program now that I see it wasn't them causing the issue. It seems to have gotten somewhat better for me as they have updated there app every once in awhile.
I have recently tried using the Messaging+ from Verizon since they are supposed to work over WiFi... but I am finding that I am never getting notifications for some. I also have LG G Watch that isn't picking it up either. When I open Messaging+ there are several unread messages waiting for me.
I also dislike how it doesn't include the message in the notification, I just get "Joe Blow sent 1 new message".
I REALLY REALLY REALLY love the look and feel of "Hello SMS" for SMS but it works horrible for MMS. I can receive the MMS pictures but cannot send MMS pictures. When I do receive pictures, because I use a custom DPI, I only see a small corner of the image. I have to download, save, and open the picture up in Gallery. But because I usually chat with my GF using Hangouts and usually don't send pictures via texting, this typically is a non-issue for me. But the few times you need it, it is a pain.
If HelloSMS would get their act together with the MMS bugs, it would be very highly recommended. It is slim and pretty basic. But I love the style, notification dropdown shade, and simplisity.
There is another app that I like called Evolve. I could set it up similar to HelloSMS but for some reason I just didn't like it. It worked great.
Another one that I am looking at is HoverChat. It incorporates the Floating head bubbles similar to Facebook Messanger. Never tried it though.
I have just started using the Samsung Stock Messages app for SMS, coming from Textra.
I noticed that when I hit compose and enter a contact name, it shows all the phone numbers for that person. It doesnt even show which are mobile and which are not.
On Textra it labeled the numbers, and it also had an option to only show Mobile numbers.
Is there any way to do this on the Messages app? Its really confusing as I cant always tell which is even the right number to select for a text message to a contact...seems weird.
Thanks.

It does show mobile and other like work etc for me, open the messages app > contacts tab at the bottom > select contact > if contact has more than one number saved a pop-up appears with names of different numbers shown
Thanks for the reply. I feel like I am missing something as this process is so cumbersome for me that it almost doesnt make sense...
1 - in Textra and others, I hit the compose text button and start typing a name. it then immediately will show any associated numbers with labels so you can see which is the mobile, which is the home, etc. in this stock app I just see the contact name with a bunch of numbers. and if I hit one, it doesnt bring up any sort of window with all the labels.
2- following your directions, if I first go to the contacts tab (already an extra step) I see along list of all of my contact names. There is a search button, but if I hit that and type a contact, I again see an unlabeled list of numbers.
3 - if I manually scroll down the entire list until I find my contact, then when I press it I see a pop up with labels.
Any which way this is a LOT of steps to compose a text message - seems like it doesnt make sense. there is no more streamlined way?

Not that I know of, this is why there are 3rd party apps with a lot more time and attention gone into adding features over stock, personally I just leave conversations in my messages app so I can open and text direct from there, only the first ever message you send them you have to perform those steps
Why not just stick with Textra?
Great question!
Sadly, something is screwed up with AT&T, my Galaxy S9 and text messaging.
Several weeks ago, I started having an issue where I am sporadically not getting random texts. They just never appear - and then people are wondering why I didnt reply. To troubleshoot this, I went to the AT&T portal and checked the log of text messages...the missing messages are never even hitting my AT&T number, so it seems this is not an app issue.
AT&T has so far been useless in diagnosing this. But googling around, I have noticed that a number of people have had this issue and it seems AT&T's "Advanced Messaging" feature is a possible culprit. There have been reports that deactivating this has solved the issue for some users.
Unfortunately the only way to deactivate this that I have uncovered is through the stock app. And if I deactivate this in the stock app and then switch to another app like Textra, it is getting turned on again automatically. I have not discovered any way to keep this deactivated while using a 3rd party SMS app.
Crazy but tragically seems to be the case...very frustrating.

There is an app called "Package Disabler Pro" which allows without root, the disabling of system packages, if you know what the advanced messaging package is called, you might be able to permanently disable it without having to have the stock SMS app as default, perhaps disabling the Samsung stock SMS app would also do it (Just read here that Disabling the messages app on the S10+ allows Textra to work)
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/blcs1b/textra_no_sent_messages_only_received_messages/
Contacting the Textra dev would be a good idea too, ask them to add the feature you need into textra
I am also seeing another method that may disable it, by disabling VoLTE
https://textra.uservoice.com/knowle...80-t-mobile-at-t-verizon-missing-messages-rcs
Looks like that is for T-Mobile but worth a shot, if AM uses VoLTE it should kill it
