Alternate ROM and system updates

Hi,
I'm really considering buying a P2 to replace my good old 1st gen moto g. At 300 € here in France, it seems like a really good value.
The only things that could hold me back now are system updates and alternate ROM support. I've read on Reddit that as the phone is only available in some parts of Asia and Europe, the developers community could not be that big. So two small questions :
I've read that the nougat update has just been made available. Is there a Lenovo commitment for Android O, too ? Are there regular security updates since the phone is out ?
Speaking of alternate ROM, if I understand correctly there's currently a LineageOS 14.1 basis that works well beside fingerprint reader and notification LED ? Do you know if there is a chance that the P2 could become an officially supported device for lineageOS ?
Thanks for your answer and all your contributions.
They barely released Nougat 7.0 and you're asking for Oreo? Even flagships like S8 will eventually get Android 8 in Q1 2018 given that Google will release the new OS version in Q3 2017. No regular security updates, till Nougat the phone was on MM with Oct 2016 security patch. Hell you can buy other phone till you're waiting for O. IMO Lenovo won't update P2 to Oreo, as at that time the new P3 should be already out and they'll focus on it and forget about the P2. No word for adding official support for Lineage OS, but that doesn't matter as the unofficial builds are working just fine.
Lenovo giving android O ?? only in dreams
but we have Good developers, and if you are looking official - then AICP is there, Lineage we dont have any info on it as our bro said in above post
if you have managed to use MotoG this many years you would like P2 very much and use longer, Only satisfactory thing in this P2 is BATTERY , other than that SAMSUNGS are better ;(
hate to praise samsungs in this forum but they are better if you have good money ..

What's the point of rooting this phone other than using lucky patcher o just can't see it.
What are your essential root apps.

First and most important possibility of Ad blocking - which saves your: time bandwidth and money.
There are some other apps which work only with root but this is beyond this discussion.

I need root for many things. On MM for Xposed, Titanium Backup, Kernel Auditor, DualBoot Patcher, Adblock and more. On Nougat the same arguments without Xposed.

Security updates

Folks,
I am looking to buy Mi 6 but have concern about the ROM and updates:
1. Is Xiaomi good with updates? At least the security updates are pushed every month, yes?
2. Has Xiaomi been good with updating their devices to at least one major release in general?
3. Is Oreo promised for Mi 6?
4. Have the kernel sources been released for Mi6?
Thanks for your help.
-devsk
1.yes
2.mi 6 can get oreo at 2018 ,but i think that will be very late, when xiaomi7 released

Need help with fingerprint lock

Hi,
I have been using Moto G4 plus before I moved to Redmi note4 & then to Mi A1. As it is an android one project, there are so many features missing. My company policy requires me to install Microsoft intune MDM which requires the device to be OEM locked. Hence I am not able to root my phone to avail the mods. I badly need the fingerprint lock feature. Is there a way I can accomplish this without rooting the phone? Please Help!

did you already unlock bootloader? do that first as it takes time to unlock.
search for install twrp
to get OTA use either orangefox or red wolf recoveries that support OTA.
i dont know when will miui enables camera2api for global rom. only the china developer have it enable for now.
Xiaomi will Enable Camera2api By Default in Developer Rom

Question Downgrade?

Hello, am new to pixel device... My previous device was Xiaomi Mi 11 , my device carne with A13 !my question is there any way to downgrade to A12 I want to flash derfest A12 my fav ROM .. thx in advance
Hello, welcome to Pixel land.
First, in order to flash a factory image, you'd have to unlock your bootloader. If you don't know already, click the yellow How To Guide quick filter at the top of the list of threads in this section and you'll find 3-4 threads that tell how. I also have a link in my signature below - you can use the link for the Pixel 7 Pro - the instructions to unlock the bootloader are the same, and the OP of my Pixel 7 Pro thread is much better organized than my one for the Pixel 6 Pro, in my opinion.
After that, the only way you can downgrade (and have everything working, and not brick your phone is to use one of the two Android 12 Developer Support images for Pixel. There's an Android 12.0 build from February and an Android 12.1 build from July. They will never receive updates, however.
You can always manually flash a Pixel 6 Pro stable Factory Image to re-upgrade at a later date, or use the Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own) to re-upgrade.
Any of the stable Android 12 builds at that factory image link should not be flashed because the Android 13 bootloader cannot be downgraded to an Android 12 bootloader, and if you flash everything from 12 Stable but the bootloader, it'll appear to work at first, but it truly won't work correctly - it will not be useable.
If you unlock the bootloader, you should also make sure the Android 13 bootloader is flashed to your inactive slot as well, to avoid the possibility of accidentally bricking your new phone.
Thanks for the fast reply sir much appreciated .. I got the idea ... My device stock unlocked and rooted .. now my question is if I flashed the July A12.1 developer ... Can I flash custom ROM based on A12.1 like derpfest etc ... Sorry I mixed up things here little harder than xiaomi

You're welcome. I don't fool around with custom ROMs except on my 6-year-old or more phones, so I can't answer that question. Part of the best things about having Pixels is the software features Google starts off exclusively on the Pixel stock ROMs.
