Can you remove apps from the zip?

Newbie question..
Can I actually remove unwanted APKs from the system\apps in ROM.zip I downloaded?
On the other hand, can I add in the APKs that I want to the system\apps folder located in the zip?
Will it have any negative impact/bugs on the ROM?
Edited: I have found out how to remove the unwanted apps. If I want to replace the default HTC message app with handcent app, which 1 do I delete? HtcMessageUploader.apk or htcmsgwidgets.apk
In my experience you will have problems if you remove some of the HTC apps and widgets. Can't you leave them in and just not use them? Just turn off the notification in the sms app so you don't get duplicate notifications.

[SOLVED]HOW TO remove Adobe Flash from JPC

I want to remove Adobe Flash Player from my device because in my opinion it is just way too slow to work effective. When I load a website with flash content I almost can't scroll and zooming is just even worse. Does anyone know how I can remove it or turn it off?
Thanks in advance.
In the browser, press menu.
Settings > Disable plugins (?)
If that doesn't work, use a file explorer such as root explorer (requires root) to delete the flash apk from your system.
It may even be possible to use the built in application manager to remove it, but I can't remember if it shows it or not.

I already disabled the plugins and I tried to remove it with Titanium Backup. When I select Adobe Flash and hit delete I get an error saying the apk-file can not be found.
Where can I find the apk-file in Root Explorer? I'm trying to find it but no succes yet
> Warning
install_flash_player.apk cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only.
How to bypass this error?
I already found out how to bypass it. I had to press some button to change from r/o to r/w.

There is one flash player floating around, 10.1.92.8. I removed the install_flash_player.apk (10.1.72) and install this. Didn't see any differences though.
As to your problem, i didn't face any such problems.

or how to remove this app?
I do not know how to prove, but you can uninstall it in setting>applications>manage applications.
If you can not remove it there, use Titanium Backup to delete or freeze it.
remove apps
you can easily remove apps BEFORE you flash a rom,
u can use winrar or 7zip
you only have to access the folder (in the zip file of the rom) with the system apps and delete the apps you dont like

Like the title says, I am trying to remove a few system apps and having a bit of trouble. I wanted to get rid of Messages and a few Verizon apps. Thanks for any help.
Just use a Root Explorer type app and go into system/app or system/priv-app and delete them.
+1 to the above comment.

Use System app remover.
I removed unwanted apks from system/Apps and system/private Apps, and it is fine. Outlook and LinkedIn are placed in root/OEM, unable to delete, Phone freeze, trying to mount.
