Questions on Rooted Pixel 3 XL Abilities (Rooted Apps) - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

So i have a Pixel 3 XL rooted. I have questions about how to use the rooted device and what i do with it.
I want to be able to tether my cellular connection over VPN, the same as Tether me is to IOS in Cydia store, is that possible.
I also want to be able to leave apps open in the background, as if im using them, i dont want them to close or ( Go to sleep) after a while, like Backgrounder or Watchdog is the IOS, is there something like that for a rooted device?
I would like to be able to see what bands im connected to, or tower im connected to, is that possible with this rooted device?
Is there a way to enhance data speeds on my rooted device.
Also being that my bootloader is unlocked, it says that my phone is not secure and i should not put nothing sensitive on it, is that true, if so then why root.

You asked this before on the Pixel 3 forum and got a few answers to your questions there.

As for what bands you are connected to I believe Signal Spy is the app you would use.
The bootloader message is normal. It warns you that the OS can be modified (which you did by rooting) and certain protection features will not function the same as if the bootloader was locked. This is the trade off when rooting.

Sure would be nice if we could suppress the warning message that appears on pixel 3 phones that have their bootloader unlocked.
I was able to get rid of it on my old Moto X pure phone.
Do you think it will be possible to do that on a pixel 3?
Edit: after a few searches, it looks like the warning message can't be removed,

FoxFi Trusted - System Credentials Lockscreen

Sorry if the title is a bit jumbled. I love FoxFi alot. The only Con I can think of is that the trusted credential prevents my phone's unlock process to be swiped. I am rooted. Is there some way I can move the FoxFi credential into the system side, so that I can reenable swipeable lockscreen; or is there a root method I can use just to set my phone's lockscreen without moving the credential?
Also, I know and have set my phone's locktime to the max. But even still, it locks way to often. I am running 5.0.1 VS98523C on my LG G3.
Anybody here? Lol
Don't struggle with it
If you're rooted, then you don't have to struggle with that. There are plenty of tethering apps out there. Find one that works with your G3. I used to use a really good one made by someone here at XDA. I forgot the name, but I can tell you it has a yellow icon. Foxfi is for people who are not rooted. You've gone through the rooting process, now enjoy the benefit of all the choices.

Unlocked G2 w/ Max WiFi Users 1 + Questions

TLDR: Unlocked LG G2 was on Sprint, now on VIVA in Kuwait, Max WiFi users when running hotspot is 1 - I want to increase it to more.
Long version:
Hello! I am a military service member deployed to Kuwait. I have a Sprint LG G2 which is rooted and running the latest UltraPop ROM. Before I left the US, my phone was activated on the Sprint network and when I would use my WiFi hotspot, I had the ability to connect up to 10 users or something. When I got to Kuwait, I had to have my phone SIM unlocked for International use to make it work with the SIM cards provided by the carrier here (it's called VIVA). My phone was not on the Sprint network when I needed to unlock so when I did the UICC unlock it did an OTA over WiFi and then I was able to use my phone on their carrier. This is all well and good.
The problem is, I want to connect my laptop, my tablet and a few other items to my hot spot - thus the appeal of the hot spot, right? LOL. Anyway, several advanced options like the radio channel, frequency, etc. have now disappeared and in addition, the most important one - the amount of users able to connect to the hotspot, went from allowing 10 to 1. I am not sure why, except maybe something to do with the OTA update when I did the UICC unlock.
I did some reading and found this article: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718682
Quickly I tried it and restarted my phone. No change. Then I noticed there was another hack for phones that had been activated on the Sprint network, which as I explained above, believe applies to me. This article has a more complicated procedure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2675280
I am afraid to try this method and screw things up. I suppose I could boot in TWRP and do a NANDROID back up before I try it but I am wondering if anyone thinks it will hose the only working Internet I have right now in Kuwait.
Any help is appreciated. Also, if anyone knows how to get the WiFi hotspot to allow devices to connect while running a VPN at the same time please enlighten me!
Thanks!!!
Sincerely, Lost & Confused...
OK, so I am going to resurrect my own thread here. I spent some time on and off dealing with the 1 client max for the hot spot in my Sprint LG G2. Lots of frustration. Anyway, digging deeper based on a tip another friend of mine gave, I discovered something that I thought would have helped, but no cigar.
Anyway, a variable called max_num_sta in the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant/hostapd.conf allows the access point to have only one client. The hostapd application on Android performs almost identical to an average Linux distro, so I figured by modifying this variable I would be able to allow more than 1 client to connect to my hotspot. However, even when changing the file manually, as soon as the hot spot is enabled thru the stock interface, only 1 client is able to connect and looking at the file again shows the value of the variable has been reset.
Next step on the list, was to run the hostapd manually from an Android terminal (something like hostapd -e/data/misc/wifi/entropy.bin -BK /data/misc/wifi/hostapd.conf). The command works at the hot spot functions, but again somehow resets to 1 freaking client again!
I would really like to be able to use my G2 to connect more than one device at a time to my hot spot while I am stuck in Kuwait. It is my only source of Internet. Anyway. Is there a way to disable the stock Wi-Fi Hot Spot interface using Titanium Back-up? Remove the APK? Modify the system? Something? I'd really like to figure this out. Any info or suggestion appreciated...

How to get mock GPS and pogo working on the Pixel XL?

As the title states, I want to be able to play Pokemon Go and use an app to spoof GPS. I do not care about Android Pay. I am really looking for advice on what to do, not how to do it. I am happy to do the legwork of figuring out how to install whatever is recommended.
I know I'm new here, so in an effort to show I've at least tried before creating a thread, here is what I've done so far:
- I tried various methods on a Verizon Samsung S4, but ultimately failed because the bootloader is locked. I learned a lot though, which was great (including never to buy phones from Verizon).
- I tried everything I could find on a Galaxy Tab S2. I got TWRP installed and tried every combination of SuperSU, suhide, rootswitch, Magisk, xposed, etc. Everything installed but pogo failed to start. I believe I need a different Kernel (although I can't remember specifically why), and there are not many options for that device.
- I got TWRP RC1 installed on my Pixel XL (purchased from Google, not Verizon), and successfully got dual boot working with a stock image in one slot, and rooted the other slot. I previously thought I needed to wait for Xposed to be released for Nougat, but I now think that may not be the case.
So, if my goal is strictly to manipulate GPS on my Pixel and still have pogo run, what is the path of least resistance? If I want to play without spoofing I can just boot my stock image.
This post by @Fenny (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70201392&postcount=106) says: "Really want to cheat at Pokemon go? Just patch the location service to always report that mock locations are off."
Could anyone elaborate on that? As I mentioned I don't care about Android Pay (although that would be a nice benefit). Is there perhaps a kernel for the pixel that will report mock locations as off, and still let pogo run? I am not familiar with how to patch the location service otherwise. I'd be willing to learn but I expect it is not a good starting place a for a newbie.
I also realize in the thread I linked above other people have reported they got pogo to run on a rooted Pixel using the patched files in that thread combined with suhide and rootswitch. If I do that, can I mock GPS locations without xposed? Or will I just be able to run pogo without spoofing?
Thanks for reading!
I've been able to spoof my gps and use a joystick app with pogo for a few months with just using Magisk and Magisk hide.. But now with the new update to pogo it will not allow you to use mock locations.. The pogo app loads but nothing shows on the maps(pokestops, Pokemon) and it says "failed to detect Location". Even with pogo running it says that and as soon as you stop the mock location app from spoofing it goes back to normal. Until someone makes an app that hides mock locations from pogo you won't be able too spoof.. I've even tried xposeds hide mock location module and it doesn't work as of now.

So this is a definite no chance as soon as you take the march update
and if you dont you get stuck dealing with the pixel draining your data by redownloading the update over and over again forcing you to installit and loose the ability to spoof gps ffs

Minimal work required to get back my bluetooth tethering? XT1635-02 OTA Nougat

I have determined that I at least will need to unlock my bootloader which I am already loathing since that means everything on my phone will get reset. We also don't even have signed firmware for this device. I don't care about root, but I also don't use any of this pay nonsense. I do play a certain game that will moan about my phone being modified though. I was already looking at the nougat thread regarding root and passing everything but I'm not interested in magisk and the headache that comes with having to deal with safetynet updates.
Far as I understand:
1. Get TWRP, can I get away with just booting it and not actually flashing?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
2. I guess tomparr's zimage kernel zip found here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767134479 is required since the system is going to be changed for what I want to do
3. Steps somewhere a long the lines of this http://www.theandroidsoul.com/enable-tethering-nougat-alongside-android-pay/
a. Add the net.tethering.noprovisioning=true line
b. Open Terminal emulator on your device and issue the following commands one-by-one:su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit
If I am understanding anything wrong or anyone wants to point me at anything else to read that would be great.
[rant] What an annoying experience this has been, before a few hours ago I praised motorola(lenovo) for what an amazing phone this was, that is until I got that ridiculous update pushed to my phone. Yes, it is definitely snappier and more responsive, but I'm not giving up functionality because the developer of the dammed OS caved into pressure from carriers. I bought an unlocked phone an no carrier has any right to restrict any of my phones features just because they think they can. I work in an office where login into the wif is a thing and I will have multiple devices with me sometimes, so I used to just bluetooth tether the other devices from my main phone and not have to deal with mutliple logins, there are also times when out and about where my gf's signal isn't great and she will use my data to be able to keep using her phone. DAMMIT THIS IS FRUSTRATING.... [/rant]

Is rooting the SD S20 Ultra Worth it?

I've just purchased a s20 ultra snapdragon variant that appears to have never been updated. I read somewhere in the forum that after a certain OTA that unlocking the bootloader would no longer be possible . I used to be heavy into Rom hopping and modding all my samsung phones because TouchWiz was such a bloated and ugly UI which is why I haven't purchased another Sammy since the S6+ edge. That and the fact that root was no-longer as easy as the earlier Sammy's. With all that being said is there any real reason to root this device? There aren't really any non-stock based roms and debloat can mostly be done by ABD. On my other devices I really only use Viper and Swift backup with root and occasionally run a fully customizable rom like Evolution or Havoc but always come back to stock (Oxygen and MIUI) because bugs are inevitable. Can anyone share why they believe the root process is worth-it for such a feature rich device?
I have delayed rooting in hopes ADB with Tasker could do many things I want to automate with my phone. For example, when I get in my car I have Tasker to unlock my phone, turn up the volume, connect bluetooth and launch maps as an example and do the reverse when I cut off my car. However, I cannot for the life of me to find a ADB solution with Tasker to unlock the S20 ultra "pattern" without rooting the phone. I too thought ADB was the solution to enable me to automate many of my tasks but at least for "pattern" unlock that has not proven to be the case. I welcome others who have solved the "pattern" by IM me separately to avoid hijacking this thread.
At this juncture without a "pattern" unlock solution, I may try a "pin" unlock solution which sounds like it might can be done but if that fails I will be at the same crossroads you are, "should I go down the path of rooting the phone" with all of the overhead relative to future updates to the phone.
There is simply no substitute for root--period. It is a travesty that the sale of a piece of hardware without the ability to run arbitrary software on it is even legal anywhere.
